Structural Characteristics Evaluation Considering Construction Circumstances of Cheomseongdae (첨성대의 축조현황을 고려한 구조적 특성평가)

  • Cheomseongdae is the masonry stone structure with the cultural and historical values. But, this structure has the various damages such as cracks, gaps, slope variations and ground subsidence. So, the interests for the safety security in the structural parts have been increased. Therefore, this study performs the structural modelling which considers the several damage cases, and then evaluates the structural behavior characteristics through the discrete element analysis. Especially, this study checks the swelling and displacement gap of the whole structure and the separation between the neighboring members.

The Prediction of Fatigue Damage for Pressure Vessel Materials using Shear Horizontal Ultrasonic Wave (SH(shear horizontal) 초음파를 이용한 압력용기용 재료의 피로손상 예측)

  • Ultrasonic method using SH(shear horizontal) wave has been developed to determine the surface damage in fatigued material. Fatigue damages based on propagation energy were analyzed by multi-regression analysis in interrupted fatigue test specimen including CrMoV and 12Cr alloy steel. From the test results, as the fatigue damage increased the propagation time of the launched waves increased and amplitude of wavelet decreased. Also, analysis for the waveform modulation showed a reliable estimation, with confidence limit of 97% for 12Cr steel and 95% for CrMoV steel, respectively. Therefore, It is thought that SH ultrasonic wave technique can be applied to determine fatigue damage of in-service component nondestructively.

  • Earthquake is one of the hazard so hard because it is difficult predicted occurred time, scale and characters. Due to a recent Sichuan earthquake in China with a magnitude of 7.8, it is worried about having a major earthquake in Korea peninsula in near future. The earthquake in Kobe, Japan showed that the damages were concentrated on the buildings which were not considered to be protected from the earthquakes. In this study, apartment structures in Korea analyze about earthquake hazard and evaluate seismic performance. Through the this study we have notice of earthquake hazard for apartment structures which live a lot of population of Korea and suppose necessary for seismic retrofit.

  • This study discusses the development of waterproofing layer jet-spray nozzle that forms a three-dimensional air cell. This nozzle has an air flow generation mechanism in the air groove of the attachment cell part located at the end of the injection nozzle. Since the air grooves also function as an air curtain, the airborne particles generated when the waterproof material is sprayed is effectively blocked. In the past, spraying of the waterproof material through the high pressure was possible, but this technology allows stable injection due to the static agitation method, and various problems caused by particle generation has been (damages to neighboring areas, economic loss, etc.) minimized.

  • RC structure which is located at shoreline has more serious damages compared with inland structure, because it is directly exposed to chlorine ion which is called incoming salt. In the transmission of incoming salt, differences in transmitted volume of incoming salts could occur according to the influences of local shoreline topography which includes surrounding weather conditions, types of building placements, obstacles of wind tunnel etc. And therefore, for the application of boundary conditions for durable offshore structure design against the salt attack, comparative analysis through wind tunnel test and fluid value simulation are executed in order to investigate the moving and adhesion process of incoming salt to offshore structure.

  • With the aid of advanced structural engineering, the construction of infrastructures has been recently accelerating to keep up with rapid economic growth. Construction activities and operation of transportation facilities cause civil petitions associated with vibration-induced damages or nuisances. As part of the decrease of vibration induced damage, the objective of this study is to develop vibration-controlled concrete with vibration-reduced materials, which can be recycled from obsolete materials, such as aged tires, plastics and etc. Appropriate mix proportion has been used for making 10 reinforced concrete panels with vibration-reduced materials, which have been tested to investigate on vibration reduction capability, based on the time and frequency domain analysis, and vibration velocity level analysis. Vibration-reduced mixtures are latex, styrofoam, rubber powder and plastic resin, which have been determined to by reduce vibration.

  • Damage estimation of bridge structures has recently received considerable attention in the light of maintenance and retrofitting of existing structures under service loads and after natural disasters. A method for the damage assessment of bridge structures using a damage index technique is presented. The damage index is formulated for the changes of modal properties due to the change of the stiffness. In order to verify the method which is presented, numerical analysis is conducted on simple beam models. Each FE model is subjected to different damage scenarios, i.e., locations and degrees of damage. Results of numerical analysis indicate that the proposed method is capable of detecting inflicted damages using the eigenvalue of only first mode.

  • Reduction factor for installation damage required to calculate design strength of geogrid used in MSEW(mechanically stabilized earth wall) design is usually obtained in the field test simulating real construction condition. However, damages occurred in geogrid during backfill work are influenced by many factors such as polymer types, unit weight per area, backfill construction method and gradation of backfill material and field test considering these factors demand lots of time and costs. In this study, factors affecting installation damage are analyzed and empirical method to evaluate reduction factor for installation damage using maximum particle size in backfill material is suggested.

  • Recently, the interests in safety and prevention from disaster are increasing. In particular, lifeline networks such as water line and sewerage, electricity, gas, and road would be damaged from a disaster. If the lifeline networks do not work in normal, national public service will not properly function. Researches in social network analysis have been conducted for analyzing the interdependency between individuals since 1970s. These network analysis are utilized to investigate a spread of information and disease. However, it is hard to discover the analyzed cases including characteristics of nodes of networks in the area of transportation and disaster. Therefore, this study conducts network analysis of flooded road with flooding scenarios, investigates safe evacuation routes in flooded road network, and suggests efficient approaches for preventing damages from a flooding.

  • It's prohibited to take sand from southeastern EEZ(Exclusive Economic Zone) from January 2017 in korea. So, the supply of sea sand has been decreased and costs of sea sand are rising as a result in the southeast region. This paper deal with appropriateness of the taking sea sand, circumstance and fisheries damages by extraction of EEZ sand and proposed control measures for ensuring quality of sea sand and consider fishermen support plan for ensuring a stable supply of sand in southeast region of korea.
