It is sometimes necessary to change the location of the collection conduit, which is constructed in shallow sediments in a stream, if the concentrations of $Fe^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$ become too high for water treatment. A total of nine wells, including four shallow wells with a depth of 3 m and five deeper wells with a depth of 6 m, were installed in the study area at Naeseong-cheon in Yecheon-gun. The change in hydrogeochemical features of groundwater and the concentrations of $Fe^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$ were examined at the wells during 5 hours of pumping. As pumping was performed, the velocity of groundwater flow was increased around the pumping well and aeration conditions were developed to precipitate iron and manganese oxides in an oxidizing environment. In addition, the concentrations of $Ca^{2+}$ and $Cl^-$ at the pumping well were increased following the mixing of surface water and groundwater. It is suggested that the center region of the stream would be more suitable for a new collection conduit, considering the concentrations of $Fe^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$ in groundwater and their reducing effect during pumping. The installation of a collection conduit based on field tests performed to ensure water quality enables a reduction in the construction and management costs at water treatment facilities.

Partitioning of hydrophobic organic compounds (HOCs) to a biosurfactant, hydroxypropyl-${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (HPCD), was conducted to evaluate the feasibility of using HPCD to remove HOCs from soil/groundwater. HOC partitioning to HPCD was very fast, with over 95% of the complexation occurring within 10 min. Some influence of solution chemistry and HOC concentration on HOC-HPCD complex formation coefficients was observed. HPCD sorption on soil as quantified by both a fluorescence technique and total organic carbon measurements was negligible, indicating no significant affinity of HPCD for the solid phase. Although the HOC solubilization capability of HPCD was lower than that of synthetic surfactants such as SDS and Tween 80, HPCD can be effective in removing sorbed HOCs from a model subsurface environment, primarily because of its negligible sorption to the solid phase (i.e., all the HPCD added facilitates HOC elution). However, in contrast with conventional surfactants, HPCD becomes relatively less effective for HOC partitioning with increasing HOC size and hydrophobicity. Therefore, comparisons between HPCD and synthetic surfactants for enhanced remediation applications must consider the specific HOC(s) present and the potential for surfactant material losses to the solid phase, as well as other more generally recognized considerations such as material costs and potential toxicological effects.
Anyone who wants to install local ventilation system must obtain a permission from the Ministry of Employment and Labor even if he has permission from the Ministry of Environment. This is because not only the Atmospheric Environmental Protection Act, but also the manufacturing industry's hazardous risk prevention plan under Article 48 Clause 2 of the Industrial Safety and Health Act is to be submitted by 15 days before the construction. Under the current Environmental Protection Act, the Ministry of Environment regulates only the emission of pollutants from local exhaust ventilation systems into the atmosphere and the contents of workers' safety and health within industrial sites are managed by the Ministry of Employment and Labor. Even with the approval of the Ministry of Environment, the number of unsuccessful cases by the Ministry of Employment and Labor has increased, causing a growing discontent among the sites due to production delays and additional costs of improvement. In addition, local exhaust systems that are at greater risk of fire explosion have increased the risk of severe industrial accidents due to fire explosion. This is due to insufficient design of air volume, control speed, return speed, duct size, and risk of fire explosion. This is because the criteria and procedures for approval of local exhaust ventilation systems are similar, but the Industrial Safety and Health Act adds additional screening items for safety and safety of workers and fire and explosion. In this study, the Environment Ministry and the Employment and Labor Ministry seek to find a reasonable way to operate the system by comparing local exhaust ventilation system installation approval standards.

For the treatment of wastewaters generated from beer industry and petrochemical company with high organic and nitrogen contents, laboratory scale of A/O Pure-Oxygen Biofilm (POB) process was developed and studied by means of the comparative economic analysis with extended aeration process. When the wastewater of beer company was initially treated by the A/O POB process in the ranges of 70 to 150 mg TOC/L diluted with tap water, higher than 92% of TOC removal was accomplished in the all ranges. In case of petrochemical wastewater, the initial TOC removal was as low as 52%, though, it increased to 86% after 32 days of operation and also the TKN removal marked 71% after 27 days. Continuous high removal rates were monitored in both the TOC and TKN parameters during the experimental period. Due to the cost for PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) setting and biomass supporting media installation, the initial construction cost of A/O POB process was 2.9 times higher than that of extended aeration process. However, the advantages such as low sludge production, no need for sludge recycling and low energy consumption allow the A/O POB process to have 2.5 times lower operation and maintenance costs. Consequently, in the long term of operation, it is likely that A/O POB process would show higher performance as well as cost effectiveness compared to extended aeration process.
As household and industrial wastes continue to rapidly increase every year, the demands for landfill sites are also increasing. However, the construction of landfill sites causes many problems due to the high costs of liners, while the leachate from the landfills generates secondary contamination of surrounding lands and groundwater. The purpose of this study is to determine the proper mixing ratio to meet the liner conditions (must be less than $1{\times}10^{-7}cm/sec$), using the local soil as the main material and using fly ash, bentonite, and cement as the mixing materials. The possibility of using this mixture as the liner for landfill sites was examined. To determine the proper mixing ratio, this study conducted basic physical properties tests, compaction tests, consolidation tests, and uniaxial compression tests. It was found that the higher the ratio of bentonite, the lower the coefficient of permeability, and the higher the ratio of fly ash, the higher the coefficient of permeability. The reason for this is that, while bentonite expands and fills pores, fly ash cannot fill the pores because the particles have a round shape and do not have adhesion. In conclusion, the optimum coefficient of permeability that meets the landfill liner condition was obtained when the ratio of bentonite was 15% or higher. If fly ash was mixed, the landfill liner condition was met when the ratio of bentonite was 15% or higher and the ratio of fly ash was 20% or lower.
Surplus soil is commonly used at construction sites, because suitable fill material is not always immediately available and leads to additional costs. However, most surplus soils do not meet the requirement of suitable fill material to achieve the stability and strength of embankments. In this study, Proctor compaction tests and field compaction tests were performed by installing geosynthetics to resolve the problems caused by compacting unsuitable soils. Compaction energy and the number of geosynthetics were changed under the type A- and D- and type A Proctor compaction tests (KS F 2312), respectively. The field compaction testing using geosynthetics was performed on surplus soils of high water content. Optimum water content and maximum dry density of compacted soil decreased and increased by reinforcing geosynthetics, respectively. Compaction curves behaved with geosynthetics as the compaction curves behaved with higher compaction energy. Efficient compaction was possible because the compaction energy increased to 2.10 and 2.71 times the compaction energy required to achieve the same maximum dry density with one and two geosynthetic layer(s), respectively. Furthermore, field compaction tests verified that efficient compaction was possible because the dry density of unsuitable surplus soils of high water content was increased by reinforcing geosynthetics.

This study is conserned with the optimization of reinforced concrete frames using limit state design theory. Formulations of the optimal design for reinforced concrete frame based on the limit state theory turn out to be the nonlinear programming problems which have to deal with the required steel area, the width and effective height of the beam and column section and the moment reduction factor as the design variables. The objective function is formulated as the total construction cost which considers the costs of steel, concrete and forming for the reinforced concrete frames, and the basic constraints are imposed upon both ultimate and serviciability limit state concepts. Also, the stress blocks assumpted in CP110 and Hognestad et al. theory are applied to analysis an ultimate resistant section force for the ultimate limit state and only the criteria of CP110 are used for serviciability limit state. The optimized technique which is applied to solve the nonlinear programming problems for the optimization of reinforced concrete frames is SUMT utilizing the modified Newton-Raphson method. This algorithm is used to test for the two reinforced concrete frames, and then is compared and analysized with the numerical results of reference(10) to examine its convergence, applicability and stability under the same conditions. The results of this study are discussed about the economy comparision of the optimal values for CP110 and Hognestad et al., and the applicability, stability, convergence and validity of this algorithm used herein through the numerical analyses.
The weight-to-power ratio of the standard truck for the climbing lane design is known to be 200lb/hp. The value was known to be assumed based on constant trucks' capability and regional distributions in stead of widely varied distributions region by region. Additionally, this value was assumed after investigating registered vehicles' statistics instead of investigating real portions of truck volumes. Therefore, it may be said that the value of the current standard truck does not reflect regional or industrial diversity and proportions of truck volumes. To resolve these issues, the present paper studies diversified standard trucks which consider regionally or industrially diversified and observed-volume based weigh-to-power ratios. For this purpose, individual trucks' weigh-to-power ratios obtained at toll-gates of national expressways were used. For regionally based study, the whole nation are divided into 8 regions, then each region is characterized by a unit of a weigh-to-power ratio. The applicability of each value is provided. Results show that the single value for the nationwide standard truck may be 208 lb/hp, 8 lb/hp higher than the current value of 200 lb/hp. Results also show that regional values ranged widely from 170 lb/hp to 230 lb, 30 lb/hp higher/lower than the current value. Conclusively, regional diversity of trucks' weigh-to-power ratios was identified then three types of standardized weigh-to-power ratios which may represent regional characteristics were suggested. As the diversified standard truck are applied to the design standard, two benefits are expected such as decrease of rear-end accident rates or decrease of climb lane construction costs.

Since the concept of virtual currency called Bitcoin was announced in 2008, the blockchain technology, which is the basis of Bitcoin, is attracting attention as an important platform technology in the era of the 4th industrial revolution that can change our society in the future. Although Existing electronic financial transactions store and manage all transaction history at a reliable central organization such as government and bank, blockchain-based electronic financial transactions are composed of a distributed structure in which all participants participating in the transaction store and manage the transaction history, it is possible to secure transaction transparency while reducing system construction and operation costs. Besides the virtual currency that started with bit coins, the technology of these blockchains has been extended in various fields such as smart contracts and document management. The key technology area of this blockchain is security based on proven cryptographic technology to make it difficult to forge and hack, but there are security risks such as security vulnerabilities in the virtual currency trading service, We will discuss security risks in using virtual currency and discuss countermeasures. Especially security accidents of virtual currency exchanges are occurring frequently recently, the damage of users who trade the virtual currency is also increasing, we propose security threats and security countermeasures against virtual currency exchanges.
In spatial database system, spatial view is supported for efficient access method to spatial database and is managed by materialization and non-materialization technique. In non-materialization technique, repeated execution on the same query makes problems such as the bottle-neck effect of server-side and overloads on a network. In materialization technique, view maintenance technique is very difficult and maintenance cost is too high when the base table has been changed. In this paper, the SVMT (Spatial View Materialization Technique) is proposed by using R-tree re-construction. The SVMT is a technique which constructs a spatial index according to the distribution ratio of objects in spatial view. This ratio is computed by using a SVHR (Spatial View Height in R-tree) and SVOC (Spatial View Object Count). If the ratio is higher than the average, a spatial view is materialized and the R-tree index is re-used. In this case, the root node of this index is exchanged a node which has a MBR (Minimum Boundary Rectangle) value that can contains the whole region of spatial view at a minimum size. Otherwise, a spatial view is materialized and the R-tree is re-constructed. In this technique, the information of spatial view is managed by using a SVIT (Spatial View Information Table) and is stored on the record of this table. The proposed technique increases the speed of response time through fast query processing on a materialized view and eliminates additional costs occurred from repeatable query modification on the same query. With these advantages, it can greatly minimize the network overloads and the bottle-neck effect on the server.
