We will develop new sasang constitution diagnosis program. Therefore we need new golden standard for sasang constitution diagnosis. First, we investigated old records and journal of sasang constitutional medicine. Next, we consulted with 10 sasang constitutional experts about new golden standard for sasang constitution diagnosis. The result as follows : Golden standard for Taeyangin : It be made up 42 items(body type 6 items, external appearance 10 items, mental characteristics 16 items, physiology&pathologic symptoms 10 items). (2) Golden standard for Soyangin. It be made up 63 items(body type 7 items, external appearance 28 items, mental characteristics 17 items, physiology&pathologic symptoms 10 items). (3) Golden standard for Taeeumin : It be made up 71 items(body type 12 items, external appearance 19 items, mental characteristics 28 items, physiology&pathologic symptoms 12 items). (4) Golden standard for Soeumin : It be made up 54 items(body type 11 items, external appearance 13items, mental characteristics 21 items, physiology&pathologic symptoms 9 items).

Sasang Constitutional Medicine, a branch of traditional Korean medicine, believes that the health of human beings can be promoted by taking advantage of the fact that people have different constitutions. It utilizes the characteristics in human voice to diagnose the constitution of the patients. This study aims at establishing the relationship between Sasang constitutions and their corresponding voice characteristics by investigating source-related variables. Voice recordings of 23 patients from three different constitutions were obtained whose constitutions had been already diagnosed by the experts in the fields. Fundamental frequency related variables (average pitch, maximum/minimum pitch, pitch range), phonation type, speaking tempo were measured and analyzed for each group. The phonation type seemed to be a possible candidate for a successful variable to determine constitution. No statistically significant relationship was manifested between other variables and constitutions. Despite its failure to firmly establish the relationship between voice and constitutions, the current study suggests that future research should include not only source-related variables

Objectives Sasang Constitutional Medicine(SCM) is uniquely established in the field of Korean Medicine. Taegeuk Acupuncture(TGA) and Eight Constitution Acupuncture(ECA) which are created upon SCM are applied in clinics. However, there exists no established theory but hypothesis with regard to the composition of acupoints of constitution acupuncture. The purpose of this study was to help establish the Sasang constitution acupuncture(SCA) method. Methods Thirties studies were found on various Oriental medicine journals and 17 literatures with the key words relevant to constitution and acupuncture. Results For the principle of acupoint selection, 12 studies were included which were classified into TGA, ECA, SCA, other constitution acupuncture. Among 17 literatures, most of them were relevant to SCA. For the clinical studies, eight of total 13 using ECA were for musculoskeletal diseases. Conclusions Among studies and literatures chosen, the application of Saam's acupuncture method was most frequently found in SCA method. For establishing the SCA method, the two main concepts need to be considered, which are the consideration of four areas namely Lungs, Spleen, Liver and Kidneys and upward-downward-loosening-tightening movement of the Qi according to Sasang constitution type.

In this paper, we performed a quantitative analysis of face color according to the health status of four constitution types. 205 Korean male in age from 65 to 80 were participated in this study and 85 subjects were finally selected for the analysis. Imaging process techniques were employed to extract feature variables associated with face color from a frontal facial image. Using the extracted feature variables, the correlations between face color and health status, face color and health status in each constitution type, and face color and four constitution types in heath status group were investigated. As the result, it was observed that the face color of healthy group contained more red component and less blue component than unhealthy group. For each constitution type, the face parts showing a significant difference according to health status were different. This is the first work which reports the correlation between the face color and health status of four constitution types with a objective method, and the numerical data for the face color according to the health status of four constitution types will be an objective standard to diagnose a patient's health status.

The 73 outpatients who had been treated in the Oriental Medical Hospital at Dong Eui Medical Center have participated in this study. The following conclusions were made in comparison with the type of disease and symptom and sasang constitution classification. (in the field of questionnaire analysis) 1. The symptom of "weight loss" is significant differences in sasang constitution classification. The frequency of Taeeum goup is more than Soyang group and Soeum group. 2. The symptom of "vomitig" is significant differences in sasang constitution classification. The frequency of Taeeum goup is more than Soyang group and Soeum group. 3. The symptom of "hoarseness" is significant differences in sasang constitution classification. The frequency of Soeum goup is more than Soyang group and Taeeum group. 4. The symptom of "respiratory distress" is significant differences in sasang constitution classification. The frequency of Taeeum goup is more than Soyang group and Soeum group. 5. The symptom of "arthralgia" is significant differences in sasang constitution classification. The frequency of Soyang goup is more than Taeeum group and Soeum group. 6. The symptom of "menstrual pain" is significant differences in sasang constitution classification. The frequency of Soeum goup is more than Soyang group and Taeeum group. 7. The analysis of past history and sasang constitution classification didn't show any significant differences. Only the analysis of past history and age show significant differences. I think that it is necessary to go deep into the clinical study of the type of disease and symptom according to sasang constitution classification.

The purpose of this study aimed to analyze the difference of the Sasang constitution type in the relationship between university life stress and mental stress. The data were collected by a self-reported questionnaire from 389 university students and 389 students were classified by QSCC II.(136 So-Eum, 139 So-Yang, 114 Tae-Eum). Multi-group analysis was performed to analyze the differences in the effects of university life stress on mental health according to the type of sasang constitution. Multi-group analysis was performed to analyze the differences in the effects of university life stress on mental health according to the type of sasang constitution. According to multi-group analysis, there were statistically significant differences in the effects of university life stress on mental health across So-Eum-So-Yang, Tae-Eum-So-Yang. Based on these results, a differentiated intervention plan suitable for sasang constitution was proposed.

This study was performed to investigate the relation between Iridological constitution and Gynecological disease. Iris is one of the most complicated part of our bodies. It reflects perfectly organ's status, toxic accumulation, person's characteristics and healing effects. Many signs of Iridology were closely researched to examine the relation between Iridology and disease. After studying these matters, we could find that lacuna and auto-nerve wreath are intimately related. Especially the portions of auto-nerve wreath loss are accorded with the organ's present illness. Most of patients have scurf ring and vessel congestion sign. Large Intestine's structure also shows us the meaningful result that ballooned is the most common, spasticity and stricture are next. Connective tissue weakness constitution is 39.22%, complex 35.29% and blood-originated 25.49%. According to the three-step constitution by the Genetic facter, average type is 52.94%, weak type 35.29% and strong type 11.76%. Above these results, we can reach a conclusion that Iridological constitution are intimately related with Gynecological disease. And further study are requested to get a objectivity in a Gynecological diagnose. Iridology is a bright prospective study and interesting diagnostic method. If we deeply investigate this science, before long we can have a great outcome and more objective diagnostic skill.

The purpose of this study is to grasp the re-lationship between Sasang constitution of the disposition side and clothing value in grown-up women in order to apply Sasang consti-tution theory to the marketing strategy in clothing industry. The study is based on a questionnaie about Sasang constitution and clothing value. The questionnarie was answered by 519 women. The data ere collected from September 12 to September 30, 1994 and analyzed by cluster analysis correlation analysis ANOVA and fac-tor analysis using SAS. The Findings of this study are as follows: 1. The women were classfied in to 3 clusters by cluster analysis :Sp-Yaung-In type (30.8%) Tae-Em-In type (40.7%) So-em-in(28.5%). 2. Correlations between SO-Yaug In type and each of clothing values showed all signifi-cant and specially social value showed high corelation(0.57163) 3. In Tae-Em-In type all correlations showed significant and esocial value showed the highest correlation of all correlations. 4. In So-Em-In type there was no corre-lation inpolitical value and the order of cloth-ing values showing high correlation was theor-etical social economic and religious value. 5. The aesthetic valu among and consti-tution types showed the lowest correlation of all correlation. By means of the about study results we may know that all women belong to three types think social value of the more important value than any other in clothing value. This is because grown-up women in korea prefer yet clothing of the harmonic and similar type to this of individual type.

We study on the significance and application of the whole body form diagnosis. The results were as follows; The general form diagnosis is the method to observe the individual physiology and pathology. The phase of thinking, the current and activity of KI, the pattern of general form diagnosis have organic relations with the symptoms. The general form diagnosis is made up the principle of the imaging phase, therefore it must make synthetic union the differentiation of syndromes. The general form diagnosis of NAE GYEONG shows the typical phases and it is divided with the sight of YIN YANG and Five-Element. The general form diagnosis of SEOP GAE is practiced the theory of constitution's demonstration before the understanding of symptoms. Then JANG NAM tried the type of constitution's demonstration. The general form diagnosis of DONG MU becomes the diagnostic root of constitution's demonstration in four type constitution theory.

Objective : This study was undertaken for discovering the characteristics of sleep in ordinary symptoms based on the Sasang Constitution. The result of this study could be helpful to understand and to identify patients such as Taeumin, Soyangin Soeumin or Taeyangin. Methods : There were 1,229 patients (529 men), who answered the questionnaire about their ordinary sleeping patterns. They were diagnosed, including their clinical Sasang Constitution, by the Sasang Constitution specialist at Bundang Oriental Hospital of Dongguk University. By applying the multinomial and binary logistic regression analysis to those collected materials, we can measure the characteristics and the influence of ordinary sleeping patterns to the dependent variable (Sasang Constitution). Results : In order of the item's influence that had decided one's constitution, between Taeumin and Soeumin, Taeumin snored frequently or well more than Soeumin, Soeumin had more dreams and more sleeping times than Taeumin, and Taeumin struggled frequently or well more than Soeumin. Between Soyangin and Soeumin, Soeumin dreams more frequently than Soyangin, Soyangin snored frequently or well more than Soeumin, and Soeumin has more sleeping times than Taeumin. Between Taeumin and Soyangin, Taeumin snored frequently or well more than Soyangin. Between Taeyangin and a group of the other constitutions, Taeyangin felt unwell after sleeping more than the other constitutions, the other constitutions awaked frequently more than Taeyangin during sleeping. Conclusion : This study will be used for identifying patients as Taeumin, Soyangin, Soeumin or Taeyangin by contrast with each other.
