The aim of this study was to establish reproducible method for measurements of radiopacity and to investigate the level of radiopacity of root canal sealers. The experiments were performed in two parts. In the first part, densitometric readings were performed using an aluminum step wedge as a reference at variable voltages and exposure times. Then standard curves for the aluminum step wedge were compared to comprehend the effect of voltage and exposure time. In the second part, on the basis of these results, appropriate conditions for exposure were adopted for standardized measurements of radiopacity. Under standardized set of conditions, densitometric measurements of ten root canal sealers and one gutta-percha point were performed and the levels of radiopacity referable to an equivalent thickness of aluminum were compared. The following results were obtained : 1. At 50 and 60 kVp, increasing the exposure time caused a decrease in the slope of the standard curve for the aluminum step wedge. However, at 70 kVp increasing the exposure time causing a parallel shift of the standard curve to the right. 2. At constant exposure time, increasing the voltage caused a decrease in the slope of the standard curve. 3. The radiopacity of root canal sealers and a gutta-percha point varied between 2.43 mm Al and 9.20 mm Al equivalent. 4. All the root canal sealers had radiopacities more than dentin, and the radiopacity of the gutta-percha point was approximately 5 times as much as that of dentin in terms of equivalent thickness of aluminum. 5. The AH26 had radiopacity more than the gutta-percha point, and the radiopacities of ZOE, Vitapex, Canals, Kerr PCS, Nogenol were similar to that of the gutta-percha point, and Tubliseal, Apatite II, Apatite III, Silapex were less radiopaque than the gutta-percha point.
Core safety limits define reactor operating conditions and parameters that will assure fuel rod and reactor system's integrity. Limiting safety system settings (LSSS) programmed into reactor protection system (RPS) then ensure a rapid reactor trip to prevent or suppress conditions which might violate the core safety limits. Generation of the LSSS must properly take into account uncertainties in both calculated and measured parameters in order to assure, with an appropriate degree of confidence, that the RPS will protect the core safety limits. Reviewed in this report are Westinghouse RPS setpoint generation philosophy, methodology of safety limit development and LSSS generation procedure. The Westinghouse RPS trip setpoint generation methodology has been established based on the calculation of core safety limits and the selection of LSSS allowing appropriate uncertainties in a conservative manner. Such conservative values of setpoint assure a high degree of core protection against fuel melting and occurrence of DNB.
The reactor pressure vessel is usually cladded with stainless steel to prevent corrosion and radiation embrittlement, and number of subclad cracks have been found during an in-service-inspection. Therefore assessment for subclad cracks should be made for normal operating conditions and faulted conditions such as PTS. Thus, in order to find the optimum fracture assessment procedures for subclad cracks under a pressurized thermal shock condition, in this paper, three different analyses were performed, ASME Sec. XI code analysis, an LEFM(Liner elastic fracture mechanics) analysis and an EPFM(Elastic plastic fracture mechanics) analysis. The stress intensity factor and the Maximum $RT_{NDT}$ were used for characterizing. Analysis based on ASME Sec. XI code does not completely consider the actual stress distribution of the crack surface, so the resulting Maximum allowable $RT_{NDTS}$ can be non-conservative, especially for deep cracks. LEFM analysis, which does not consider elastic-plastic behavior of the clad material, is much more non-conservative than EPFM analysis. Therefore, It is necessary to perform EPFM analysis for the assessment of subclad cracks under PTS.
The groundwater is a very important part of the environment and must be protected for the benefit of the present and future generation. The contamination of soil and groundwater by chemicals has become an increasing concern in the recent past. These chemicals enter the groundwater system by a wide variety of mechanisms, including accidental spills, land disposal of domestic and industrial wastes and application of agricultural fertilizers. Once introduced into an aquifer, these contaminants will be transported by flowing groundwater and may degrade water quality at nearby wells and streams. For improving the management and protection of groundwater resources, it is important to first understand the various processes that control the transport of contaminants in groundwater. Predictions of the fate of groundwater contaminants can be made to assess the effect of these chemicals on local water resources and to evaluate the effectiveness of remedial actions. In this study, an attempt has been made to investigate the behaviour of solute transport through porous media using laboratory experiments. Sodium chloride was used as a conservative chemical in the experiment. During the experiment, pulse boundary condition and continuous boundary conditions were used. Experimental results have been presented for conservative solute transport in the sand. The pattern of the break through curve remains almost same in all the cases of varying flow rate and initial concentration of conservative chemical.
To determine the factors which affect the flow of dentinal fluid through cat dentinal tubules in vivo, the flow of fluid was measured by observing the movement of the fat droplets of dilute milk in a glass capillary with a microscope connected to the monitor. After measuring the exposed area of dentin, hydraulic conductances of dentin were calculated. The mean pressure which stoped the outward flow of dentinal fluid was 9.5mmHg. The hydraulic conductance of dentin under the condition of pulp exposed was increased by 21 % from that under the condition of dentin exposed. Under the conditions of pulp cut and pulp removed, the hydraulic conductances of dentin were increased by 22 % and 31 % respectively from that under the condition of dentin exposed. These results show that the direction and rate of dentinal fluid flow in cat dentin is affected mainly by the hydrostatic pressure of interstitial fluid of pulp tissue in the state of low compliance. Both of the osmotic effect produced by the protein constituents of interstitial fluid across the odontoblast tell layer and the change of interstitial fluid pressure produced by the state of the microcirculation of the pulp also affect the direction and rate of dentinal fluid in some degree.
To evaluate the effect of interface conditions and retention grooves in the Class V composite resin restoration of the maxillary first premolar, the distribution of the values of stress and displacement was analyzed with the two-dimensional finite element method. The results were obtained as follows : 1. Boundary elements and Stiffness values could be used as the interface parameters in the, finite element method. 2. The amount of restriction of the displacement at the cervical margin by placing a retention groove at the cervical wall was about three times as high as that by placing a retention groove at the occlusal wall. 3. Because of the relative amount of tensile components of the stress values in the bucco-lingual direction, the possibility of dislocation of the restoration was much higher at the cervical margin than at the occlusal margin. 4. It might be recommended that both occlusal and cervical retention grooves be used routinely, but if one, it be placed at the cervical wall.
A methodology to determine the most conservative initial condition based on random sampling of operation parameters is established, in which a best-estimate computer code is adopted to minimize the conservatism in code models. To validate the applicability of the suggested method, safety evaluation for a transient of loss of condenser vacuum in a pressurized water reactor is performed. One-hundred different initial conditions are generated by MOSAIQUE program automatically and the peak pressure for the most conservative case is determined from transient analyses. The safety margin obtained with the new approach is almost equivalent to the values determined with the existing methodologies. It is found that the time and human resources required for the safety evaluation could be reduced with the suggested approach.
An experimental investigation of the physical properties of light curing composite resin P-50 was performed, in which an argon ion laser beam was irradiated. The physical and mechanical properties of laser polymerized composite resin were determined by measuring the compressive strength, diametral tensile strength, curing depth and microhardness depending upon the experimental conditions such as the laser irradiation time(10sec, 20sec, 30sec) and laser power(300mW, 500mW, 1000mW). These observations were compared with a conventional visible light curing technique. In addition, to evaluate the marginal adaptation, Class V cavity was prepared on the buccal or lingual surface of the extracted premolar and filled with P-50 light curing resin. The test samples were irradiated with both light sources so that the interface between the restoration and the tooth structure were observed under scanning electron microscope. The most of physical and mechanical properties of the laser cured resin showed a remarkable improvement than those treated with the conventional light source, while the observations with the scanning electron microscope provided no significant difference for two polymerized sources. From the results in the experiment it appears that the potential of an argon ion laser is of important value of the use in the polymerization of composite resin.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the surface hardness of composite resins according to heat treatment. storage condition and storage time. In this study. two kinds of composite resin inlays and one kind of conventional posterior composite resin were used as experimental materials. One hundred eighty composite resin specimens were constructed from composite resin inlays and conventional posterior composite resin. The conditions of this study were heat treatment. storage condition and storage time. Hardness readings were taken from the top surface of each samples using the Vickers microhardness tester(MHT-l. Matsuzawa. Japan}. The following results from this study were obtained: 1. Regardless of storage condition. both composite resin inlay and conventional posterior composite resin have a higher surface hardness under heat treatment than not. 2. Composite resins with heat treatment have a higher surface hardness under dry storage than under water immersion. 3. In case of Clearfil Photo Posterior and Brilliant Enamel with heat treatment. there was no significant difference with time. but Clearfil CR Inlay with heat treatment. there was statistical difference after 24 hours. 4. Surface hardness of composite resins with coarse hybrid type was higher than that of composite resin with fine hybrid type.
Recently, hydrogen energy has been widely used because of strict regulations on greenhouse gas emissions. For using the hydrogen energy, it is required to supply hydrogen through a tube trailer. However hydrogen tube trailer can have excessive load problems during transportation due to reasons such as road shape and driving method, which may lead a risk of hydrogen leakage. So it is necessary to secure a high level of safety. The purpose of this study is to evaluate structural safety for the conservative design of hydrogen tube trailer. First, finite element(FE) modeling of the designed hydrogen tube trailer was performed. After that, safety evaluation method was established through static structural simulation based on the standard GC207 conditions. In addition, effectiveness of the designed model was confirmed through the results of the structural safety evaluation. Finally, driving simulation was used to derive acceleration graph according to time, which was considered as a dynamic property for the evaluation of conservative tube trailer safety evaluation. And dynamic structural simulation was conducted as a condition for actual transportation of tube trailer by applying dynamic properties. As a results, conservative safety was evaluated through dynamic structural simulation and the safety of hydrogen tube trailer was confirmed through satisfaction of the safety rate.
