Gait Analysis According to the changes of the carrying type and weight of bag (가방의 휴대 형태와 무게 변화에 따른 보행 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the changes in gait according to four style of bag's carryied method and three different bag's weights. Twenty healthy adults participated in four conditions. The first condition, they wearing a bag on one side shoulder and walked. The second condition, they carried a bag sling across on shoulder and walked. The third condition, they carried a bag on a back using both shoulders and walked. The fourth condition, they hold a bag in their right hand and walked. During all four conditions participants wore a SmartStep insole in their right shoe and had a pressure control device strapped to their right ankle. Each participant walked 10 meters carrying a 2.5 kg, 5 kg and 7.5 kg bag under all four conditions. There were significantly differents in stance phase rate; swing phase rate and walking speed according to bag weight of 2.5 kg, 5 kg, 7.5 kg.

Effect of Moisture Conditions and Curing Conditions of Recycled Coarse Aggregate on Concrete Compressive Strength (재생 굵은 골재의 함수조건과 양생조건이 콘크리트 압축 강도에 미치는 영향)

  • Currently, the quality standards for recycled aggregates in Korea are very high, at almost the same level as natural aggregates, so recycled aggregates cannot be widely used for concrete. In particular, it is necessary to evaluate how the moisture conditions and curing conditions of recycled aggregates with high absorption rates and wearing rates affect the compressive strength of concrete. Therefore, in this study, we wanted to investigate the effects on compressive strength through experiments using the moisture conditions and curing conditions of recycled coarse aggregate as variables, and compare the compressive strength characteristics of natural coarse aggregate concrete. As a result of this experimental study, the effect of compressive strength on concrete using recycled coarse aggregates according to curing conditions was similar to that of natural aggregate concrete, and the compressive strength showed a low strength of about 13 to 17 %. The effect of the moisture conditions of recycled coarse aggregates was that in the case of wet curing, concrete using wet aggregate showed slightly higher compressive strength than concrete using dry aggregate, but in the case of air curing, on the contrary, dry recycled aggregate concrete was relatively higher than wet aggregate concrete.

Oral health status and treatment need of institutionalized elderly patients (노인요양시설에 있는 노인환자의 구강실태 및 치료수요도)

  • Statement of problems: In the area of dental care, the institutionalized elderly have placed the most vulnerable state, and we cannot find their subjective need of dental treatment because of the physical and mental disabilities, But we have no basic investigation of their oral health conditions. Purpose: The aims of the current study were to investigate the oral health status of institutionalized elderly patients who are in the least benefited side of dental service, and to analyze their dental treatment needs. Material and methods: The survey of the oral status was carried out on 758 institutionalized elderly, and 212 elderly who was more than 65 years old from D dental office, and it was based on the Guidelines of Oral Health Research of year 2000 in Republic of Korea. Results and conclusion: The DMFT index of the institutionalized elderly appeared higher than that of the same ages in control group, and it increased with age. The number of residual teeth of the institutionalized elderly appeared lower than that of the same ages in control group, and it decreased with age (P < .05). The number of fixed partial denture in institutionalized elderly was lower than that of the same ages in control group (P < .05). The percentage wearing removable partial denture was not significant between the elderly in institutions and the control group, and was not different according to age between the two groups. The percentage of institutionalized elderly wearing complete denture appeared lower than that of the same ages in control group, and it increased with age. The percentage of institutionalized elderly needing complete denture was higher than that of control group, and the percentage of elderly needing complete denture on the maxilla was higher than that of the mandible. 16.35% of the institutionalized elderly was living without denture in spite of their fully edentulous state. The need for complete denture increased rapidly with age. The number of valued teeth and dental prostheses in shortened dental arch concept and number of occluding pairs of teeth of institutionalized elderly were lower than that of the control group (P < .05). In institutionalized elderly, the number of residual teeth, the number of fixed partial dentures, and the percentage wearing removable partial dentures were higher in the mandible, and the percentage wearing complete dentures was higher in the maxilla (P < .05). The rate of institutionalized elderly needing prosthodontic treatment appeared to be 67.82%, where the number of occluding pairs of teeth was less than 10. When it is difficult to evaluate the subjective need of dental treatment as with the institutionalized elderly, estimation using the number of occluding pairs of teeth can be a useful indicator that can project treatment needs. For the oral health care of institutionalized elderly, it is essential to increase the awareness of nurses and caregivers who take care of them, about the importance of the oral health. Since the average life span and number of residual teeth are increasing gradually, the welfare policy should be changed to implementing regular dental examinations, preservative treatment forms and oral health control of dentulous patients where the traveling-treatment system and visit system are supplemented. And principles should be set that the present denture project of edentulous patients should be done by specialists who'll also be responsible for postmanagement. Through this research of institutionalized elderly, the oral health status which is worsened by aging could be confirmed. And the interest and positive participation of dental society on the elderly should come first in order to solve the rising treatment needs of the elderly patients.

Comparison of the Changes in the Activation of the Quadriceps Muscle based on the Plantar Flexion Degree of the Ankle Joint in Healthy Young Females during the Stand-to-Sit movement

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the changes in the muscle activation of the quadriceps muscle (rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis) during the stand-to-sit (StandTS) movement according to the plantar flexion angle of the ankle joint. Methods: A total of 22 healthy young females participated in this study. During the StandTS under the three conditions (plantarflexion angle 0°, 20°, and 45° of the ankle), electromyography (EMG) data (% maximum voluntary iso¬metric contraction) of the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, and vastus medialis were recorded using a wireless surface EMG system. Results: There was a significant difference in the muscle activation of rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, and vastus medialis according to the plantar flexion angle (0°, 20°, and 45°) of the ankle. The muscle activation of the quadriceps was the highest at a 45° angle of plantarflexion and the lowest at 0°. One-way repeated ANOVA was used to analyze the muscle activation data of the lower extremity muscles according to the angle of the ankle joint. Conclusion: Based on the results of our study, it was confirmed that the muscle activity of the quadriceps can be increased even in the StandTS movement, which involves the eccentric contraction of the quadriceps muscle. This suggests that maintaining a plantar flexion posture for a long time, say by wearing high-heeled shoes, can quickly cause muscle fatigue in the lower-limb muscles, which can cause a decrease in balance ability leading to falls.

  • According to the 2020 industrial accident reports of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the number of fatal accidents in the construction industry over the past 5 years has been higher than in other industries. Of these more than 50% of fatal accidents are initially caused by fall accidents. The central government is intensively managing falling/jamming protection device and the use of personal protective equipment to eradicate the inappropriate factors disrupting safety at construction sites. In addition, although efforts have been made to prevent safety accidents with the proposal of the Special Act on Construction Safety, fatalities on construction sites are constantly occurring. Therefore, this study developed a model that automatically detects the wearing state of the worker's safety helmet and belt using computer vision technology. In considerations of conditions occurring at construction sites, we suggest an optimization method, which has been verified in terms of the accuracy and operation speed of the proposed model. As a result, it is possible to improve the efficiency of inspection and patrol by construction site managers, which is expected to contribute to reinforcing competency of safety management.

Three-Dimensional Analysis of the Shapes of Gathered Skirts (개더스커트 형상프로포션의 3차원적 해석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the proportion of gathered skirts using a three-dimensional measurement system. And in this experiment, we have attempted to accumulate three-dimensional data of wearing model and find out adequate methods for analyzing shape of clothes. The experimental design consists of two factorial designs. We established three different kinds of fabrics, ratio of gathers. The measurement tool for three-dimensional model was whole body 3D scanner(Exima-WBS2H). Analysis program used in experiment is RapidForm 2004 PP1 and Pattern Design 2000. Data analysis utilizes SPSS WIN 10.0 Package. As the results show, there were different effect of gather and proportion of shapes among the measurements of width, thickness and areas made by different lines of vision in cross-sectional silhouette. And there were difference shapes of section area at each part of gathered skirts between vertical-outline silhouette and vortical-plane silhouette made by gathering conditions. And also the cross-sectional silhouettes and vertical silhouettes were related to shape of clothes.

Survey for Developing Sports Brassiere of Women in Their 50s (50대 여성용 스포츠 브래지어 개발을 위한 실태 조사)

  • This study analyzed wearing conditions to develop an optimum sports brassiere for women in their 50s. A total of 35.9% of the women exercised three times a week and 51.1% had been exercising for more than 2 years, and 58.5% exercised for 30 minutes to 1 hour each day. Regarding the question of whether women wore a sports brassiere when exercising, 54.8% of the respondents answered 'No'. 73.9% of the respondents found a sports brassiere stuffy. The most important factors in purchasing a sports brassiere were wear comfort and functionality. In particular, more exercise demanded greater functionality. When purchasing a sports brassiere, the price range was the highest for 84.3% of the respondents at less than 50,000 won, and 45.2% preferred achromatic colors. A total of 47.9% preferred the length of the sports brassiere to be about 5 cm from the bust; however, the respondents who exercised more preferred shorter length sports brassiere. A total of 57.6% of the respondents preferred the width of the shoulder strap to be 1-3 cm; however, respondents who exercised more preferred the shoulder strap to be more than 3 cm wide. Most respondents preferred the sports brassiere to have a moderate degree of compression at the front breast area.

A Case of Parotid Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma Recurring along the Mask Strap Line (마스크 끈자국을 따라 재발한 이하선 점액표피양암종 1예)

  • Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is one of the most common malignant tumors that occur in the salivary glands. While several cases of distant metastasis have been reported, instances of metastasis to the skin are rare. We present the case of a 72-year-old man diagnosed with parotid mucoepidermoid carcinoma who experienced temporary remission following surgical resection and adjuvant chemoradiotherapy. However, the carcinoma recurred along the skin at the periauricular area along the mask line. Given the current prevalence of COVID-19, the practice of wearing masks has become more widespread. This case report highlights the recurrence of mucoepidermoid carcinoma along the mask strap line, emphasizing the importance of distinguishing it from benign dermatological conditions.

  • These days the Korean costume becomes the formal dress to be worn on particular occasions. The Westernization of life style, inculding dress, has made the costume of wearing traditional dress disappear from Korean's everyday life. This study is launched to investigate the precious textiles and materials of the past before they vanish; this study deals with the materials of folk costume in the early 20th century, preceding Westernization. The research method adopted in the study was interviews of fifth- five elderly persons living around the Mt. Kumo area in Gyungbuk province. The result was that costume culture in that area was poor because people living in the area were economically less well off due to meager agricultural products. There was no variety in the style of costumes to be worn for various occasions. It was also nothworthy that because of no diversification in naming, only one representative word was used to name several types of costumes. On the other hand, it was discovered that the people in the Mt. Kumo area had religious aspirations stemming from their folk beliefs concerning costumes. They also had an attitude of saving money despite poor economic conditions.

Evaluation of Glove Designs Applying Change in Hand Length Dimensions by Hand Motion (손동작에 따른 손체표 길이 변화를 적용한 장갑 설계 평가)

  • Use of a glove made of materials with a low elasticity decreases the performance of the hand such as agility, dexterity, range of motion, and grip strength. The present study examined if the adverse effects of a low-elastic glove can be reduced by a design which accommodates the changes of hand surface lengths by hand motion. Two glove designs which provide patches of elastic cloth and pleats at the finger joints and knuckle were developed by considering the hand surface length changes, and then compared with two conditions(bare hand and conventional glove design that does not consider the dynamic characteristics of the hand dimensions) in terms of completion time in peg board insertion task, maximum grip strength, discomfort in hand motion, discomfort in force exertion, and overall discomfort by 24 right-handed participants. The test results confirmed that wearing of a glove significantly reduced the agility and grip strength capability of the hand and indicated that the novel designs were effective to lessen the performance decreases compared to the conventional design. Also, of the glove designs, the pleat glove design was found most preferred for both better hand performance and less subjective discomfort.
