  • A random vector =(X1,…, Xn) is conditionally weakly associated if and only if for every pair of partitions 1=(X$\pi$(k+1),…,X$\pi$(k)), 2=(X$\pi$(k+1),…,X$\pi$(n)) of P(1$\in$A│2$\in$B, $\theta$$\in$I) $\geq$P$\in$A│$\theta$$\in$I whenever A and B are open upper sets and $\pi$ is any permutation of {1,…,n}. In this note we develop some concepts of conditional positive dependence, which are weaker than conditional weak association but stronger than conditional positive orthant dependence, by requiring the above inequality to hold only for some upper sets and applying the arguments in Shaked (1982).

  • Dependence concepts for ordered two-way contingency tables have been of considerable interest. We consider a dependence concept which is less restrictive than likelihood ratio dependence and more restrictive than regression dependence. Maximum likelihood estimation of cell probability under this dependence restriction is studied. The likelihood ratio statistics for and against this dependence are proposed and their large sample distributions are derived. A real data is analyzed to illustrate the estimation and testing procedures.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new notions of conditionally weak dependence and we study their properties, preservation of the conditionally weak independent and positive and negative quadrant dependent(CWQD) property under mixtures, limits, closure under convex combinations, and their interrelationships. Furthermore, we extend multivariate stochastic dependence to stronger conditions of dependence.

  • Objectives: In this study, a multilevel analysis model has been designed to investigate the effect of personal characteristics associated with smoking cessation on anti-smoking determinants with a goal of finding out the factors which have influence on smoking cessation among the entrants of smoking cessation clinic in a public health center. Methods: A total of 253,136 male smokers who received smoking cessation services for more than six(6) months in a smoking cessation clinic of public health center from July 16, 2007 to July 15, 2008 were examined. For technical analysis, SPSS Version 2.0 has been used. For multilevel analysis on smoking cessation determinants, in addition, HLM 7.0 has been adopted. Results: According to the unconditional model of multilevel analysis, the success rates of smoking cessation among the entrants of a smoking cessation clinic were 47.3%. In an unconditional slope model test to which regional variables were added, a negative effect was observed in average smoking amount, total smoking period, nicotine dependence and services while a positive effect was found in age, stress and type of social security in terms of the log of the odds of smoking cessation. In a conditional model test, a positive effect was observed in Non-Smoking Campaigns (NSC) and Frequency of Counseling (FC) in terms of the log of the odds of smoking cessation in regional variables. Conclusions: It is important to approach smokers individually and, at the same time, build healthy environment for a local community to increase smoking cessation rates among the entrants of smoking cessation clinic in a public health center.

  • This paper studies economic growth convergence conditioning on various characteristics of East Asian countries. Our findings suggest that when trade openness is conditioned in addition to human capital and investment, the economic growth rates for East Asian countries converge faster than when human capital and investment alone are considered. In particular, while Northeast Asian countries exhibit absolute economic growth convergence as well as economic growth convergence conditioned on trade openness, Southeast Asian countries show only economic growth convergence conditioned on trade openness. Analysis of policy implications based on the results of the first East Asian countries' high dependence on foreign trade, trade openness in the convergence of economic growth has had a significant positive effect. Second, in order to establish a regional economic integration in East Asia, Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia, the country's economic growth is necessary to reduce the gap.
