The aim of the current work is to describe the flexural behaviour of simply supported concrete beams with tension reinforcement spliced at mid-span. The parameters included in the study were the type of the concrete, the splice length and the configuration of the hooked splice. Fifteen beams were cast using an ordinary concrete mix and two fiber reinforced concrete mixes incorporating steel and polypropylene fibers. Each concrete mix was used to cast five beams with continuous, spliced and hooked spliced tension steel bars. A test beam was reinforced on the tension side with two 12 mm bars and the splice length was 20 and 40 times the bar diameter. The hooked bars were spliced along 20 times the bar diameter and provided with 45-degree and 90-degree hooks. The test results in terms of cracking and ultimate loads, cracking patterns, ductility, and failure modes are reported. The results demonstrated the consequences due to short splices and the improvement in the structural behaviour due to the use of hooks and the confinement provided by the steel and polypropylene fibers.

This work is a study on modeling of concrete mix proportioning Although concrete in one of the most important materials for construction, its production system is not so well organized in comparison with other materials. The heterogeneous nature of concrete and concrete materials create numerous variables which influence the properties of fresh and hardened concrete. The relationships between the different variables are formulated into equations. The regression analysis was done by using the computer program of statistical analysis for engineers. A computer program was written for proportioning the different ingredients of concrete using the derived equations.

Recently. cold weather constructions were popularized because of the importance of construction term. The special method about mix design and curing of concrete was being planned to conduct cold weather constructions, but these method were not considered in a low temperature time. A Strength revelation of concrete is delayed in a curing condition of low temperature. If a construction was loaded in this case, cracks or remaining deformations are generated in a construction. So, a strength revelation characteristic in early age was investigated to secure early strength of concrete in curing condition of a low temperature. In this study, the method about concrete mix design was presented to secure construction safety in a low temperature time.

To make practical application of mixing test results to concrete mix design, experimental tests of concrete were done and the relationship between cement-water ratio and compressive strength of concrete was obtained. A computer program which can be used for data base of air content, slump and compressive strength test results was developed. The program draws $\bar{X}$-R or X-Rs control charts and has data sheets for arrangement of material test results. The computer program also helps calculation of concrete mix proportions for mixing tests and contains dictionary of concrete technical terms.
The performance of a concrete is significantly influenced by its mixture proportion and the coating thickness on aggregate surface. The concrete in this study is designed by estimating the blending ratio of aggregate using a densified mixture design algorithm (DMDA) based on an ideal grading curve and estimating the paste volume as the sum of the amount of paste needed to provide an assigned coating paste thickness. So as to obtain appropriate concrete amount, and thus can accurately estimate the property of concrete. Deduction of this mix design formula is simple and easy understanding, and meanwhile to obtain result is fast. This estimation model of mix design is expected to reward to industry and effectively upgrade concrete quality.
Reinforced concrete can be considered as a heterogeneous material consisting of coarse aggregate, mortar mix and reinforcing bars. This paper presents a two-dimensional mesoscopic analysis of reinforced concrete beams using a simple two-phase mesoscopic model for concrete. The two phases of concrete, coarse aggregate and mortar mix are bonded together with reinforcement bars so that inter force transfer will occur through the material surfaces. Monte Carlo's method is used to generate the random aggregate structure using the constitutive model at mesoscale. The generated models have meshed such that there is no material discontinuity within the elements. The proposed model simulates the load-deflection behavior, crack pattern and ultimate load of reinforced concrete beams reasonably well.
This study is aimed to derive the optimum mix proportion of the combined self compacting concrete according to cement types (blast-furnace slag cement and belite cement) and to propose the basic data to field construction work after evaluating the quality properties. Specially, lime stone powder (LSP) as binder and viscosity agent are used in the combined self compacting concrete because slurry wall of an underground LNG storage tank should be kept stability of quality during concrete working. Replacement ratio of LSP is determined by confined water ratio test and main design factors including fine aggregate ratio ($S_r$), coarse aggregate ratio ($G_v$) and water-cement ratio (W/C) are selected. Also, quality properties including setting time, bleeding content, shortening depth and hydration heat on the optimum mix proportion of the combined self compacting concrete according to cement type are compared and analyzed. As test results, the optimum mix proportion of the combined self compacting concrete according to cement type is as followings. 1) Slag cement type-replacement ratio of LSP 13.5%, $S_r$ 47% and W/C 41%. 2) Belite cement type-replacement ratio of LSP 42.7%, Sr 43% and W/C 51%. But optimum coarse aggregate ratio is 53% regardless of cement types. Also, as test results regarding setting time, bleeding content, shortening depth and hydration heat of the combined self compacting concrete by cement type, belite cement type is most stable in the quality properties and is to apply the actual construction work.

In this study, the diffusion characteristics were evaluated using the concrete mix design of nuclear safety-related structures. Among the concrete structures related to nuclear power safety, we selected the composition of intake and drainage structures that are immersed in seawater or located on the tidal platform and evaluated the chloride ion permeation resistance by compressive strength and electrical conductivity and the diffusion characteristics by immersion in salt water. analyzed. Compressive strength was measured on the 1st, 7th, 14th, 28th, 56th, and 91st days until the 91st day, which is the design standard strength of the nuclear power plant concrete structure, and chloride ion permeation resistance was evaluated on the 28th and 91st. After immersing the 28-day concrete specimens in salt water for 28 days, the diffusion coefficient was derived by collecting samples at different depths and analyzing the amount of chloride. As a result, it was found that after 28 days, the long-term strength enhancement effect of the nuclear power plant concrete mix with 20% fly ash replacement was higher than that of concrete using 100% ordinary Portland cement. It was also found that the nuclear power plant concrete mix has higher chloride ion permeation resistance, lower diffusion coefficient, and higher resistance to salt damage than the concrete mix using 100% ordinary Portland cement.

In this research by examining the influence that low quality aggregate has on the strength of concrete through testing, the lowering of strength according to use of low quality coarse aggregate was reviewed. The results showed that when using low quality coarse aggregate, due to the quality of aggregate a high volume of units was required, and this caused the compression strength to be lowered. In conclusion it was confirmed that if the low quality aggregate was used as is without mix correction this would lead to faulty construction and if the aggregate was corrected to about 60 kg/m3 mix correction, this would lead to an economically infeasible concrete mix.

From the early 1980s, the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) has been developed as a one of the standard tunneling method in Korea. Approximately 10 years ago, wet-mix shotcrete with sodium silicate accelerator (waterglass) was introduced and widely used to tunnel lining and underground support. However, this accelerator had some disadvantages due to the decrease of long-term strength compared to plain concrete (without accelerator) and low quality of the hardened shotcrete. In order to compensate for these disadvantages, recently developed alkali-free accelerator has been successfully demonstrated in numerous projects and applications as a new material to make tunnels more durable and safer. An experimental investigation was carried out in order to verify the strength behavior of wet-mix Steel Fiber Reinforced Shotcrete (SFRS) with alkali-free accelerator. Compressive strength, flexural strength and equivalent flexural strength were measured by testing specimens extracted from the shotcrete panels. From the results, wet-mix SFRS with alkali-free accelerator exhibited excellent strength improvement compared to the conventional shotcrete accelerator.
