  • Current design specifications prescribe that the upper and lower reinforcement mat is required in the same amount to resist negative and positive moment in bridge decks. This design concept is primarily based on the unrealistic assumption that the girder plays a role of rigid support against deck deflection. In reality, however, girders are flexible and the deflection of girders affect the behavior of deck slabs. In the present study, an analytical method was developed to take the effect of the girder flexibility on the deck behavior into account. The method was formulated based on the slope-deflection equations of plates and harmonic analysis. Unlike the conventional finite element analysis, the input and output schemes are simple and convenient. The validity of the presented study was verified by a series of comparative studies with finite element analyses and experimental tests. It was shown from the analyses that the negative transverse moments of decks were significantly reduced in many cases when the girder flexibility were appropriately taken into consideration whereas the positive moments tend to increase. This poses a strong need to improve the conventional design concept of decks on rigid girders to those on flexible girders.

  • In period of rapid economic development, as doing river conservation work by using harmful materials environmental pollution has adversely effected humans, animals and plants frequently. For recovery of environmental pollution it needs a lot of time and cost. Therefore, in this study, in order to take an environment-friendly method which is also economical and durable both results of the laboratory model test and field test were compared and analyzed. According to the results of the laboratory model test, those methods such as concrete paving, asphalt paving, bentonite mat, stabilized soil method and mixed soil method have small amount of seepage, but on the other hand compaction soil, grassland and permeable materials have considerable amount of seepage. The results of field test show a similar tendency with laboratory test and have been satisfied to assess standard of domestic water permeability below $1.0{\times}10^{-7}cm/sec$ and unconfined compressive strength is also than 1.0MPa so it has been satisfied about standard. In conclusion, as compaction rate increased, as unconfined compression strength increased and coefficient of permeability decreased.

  • Recently, to ensure the stability of flood control, instead of removal of concrete revetment, the vegetation mat method has been widely used on the recovery soil. However, the recovery soil method often failed to be stable against the flood, which caused the economic loss. In this study, the rate of soil loss and the velocity distribution on high water revetment are evaluated by the hydraulic experiments. The maximum difference of the soil loss rate was 52% depending on the vegetation. The reduction of the soli loss rate according to the vegetation is large when the revetment slope is steep. The maximum soil loss rate is 19.5% when there is no vegetation.

  • The rapid expansion of buildings and paved roads increases the risk of flood disaster in an urban area. One of the solutions can be the use of permeable pavements. This study evaluated the permeability of permeable blocks used for the roadway pavement. Joint fillers and mat sands of the investigated blocks met the corresponding standards. The flexural strength of the blocks was 5.29 MPa to meet these standards. Based on interior permeability test results after pollution, the four products evaluated were categorized into the following three levels: One for the $1^{st}$ level, one for the $2^{nd}$ level and two for the $3^{rd}$ level. From the field permeability test and pervious concrete infiltration test results nine months after their construction, all the products except one passed the quality standards of 0.1 mm/s.

  • This study carried out a Mock-up test to apply Low-heat Cement (CF) that is adjusted to a fineness of $3,000\;{\pm}\;200\;cm^2/g$ by substituting Coarse particle Cement (CC) and fly ash with ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), then applied it on-site. The result of the test is as follows. The Mock-up test showed that the amount of admixture in CF increased SP agent and AE agent slightly more compared to OPC, while temperature history showed that the highest temperature of CF was around $6{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ lower than that of OPC. Compressive strength in CF was low compared to that of OPC, but the strength width became narrow at the age of 28 days, which is not considered to be significant. In on-site application, slump, air content and chloride content all satisfied the target values, while the temperature history showed that the highest temperature in the center by each cast was about $34^{\circ}C$ in the first cast, $42^{\circ}C$ in the second cast, and $39^{\circ}C$ in the third cast. Compressive strength of specimen for strut management showed low value compared to standard curing, but its strength was reduced at the age of 28 days.

  • Two-way slabs reinforced with high-performance steels, which have several practical advantages of a reduction of congestion in heavily reinforced members, savings in the cost of labor and repair, the higher corrosion resistance, and a reduction of construction time, were constructed and tested. The influences of the flexural reinforcement ratio, concentrating the reinforcement in the immediate column region, and using steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) in the slab on the punching shear resistance and post-cracking stiffness were investigated, and compared with the punching shear test results of the slabs reinforced with conventional steels and GFRP bars. In addition, the strain distribution of flexural reinforcements and crack control were investigated, and the effective width calculating method for the average flexural reinforcement ratio was estimated. The use of high-performance steel reinforcement increased the punching shear strength of slabs, and decreased the amount of flexural reinforcements. The concentrating the top mat of flexural reinforcement increased the post-cracking stiffness, and showed better strain distribution and crack control. In addition, the use of SFRC showed beneficial effects on the punching shear strength and crack control. It was suggest that the effective width should be changed to larger than 2 times the slab thickness from the column faces.

  • The importance of the vertical response of a structure was well recognized after the Hyogoken-Nanbu earthquake of Japan. However, most of the seismic design codes does not specified the site sail profiles, and the sail and foundations conditions were mostly neglected in the vertical seismic analyses of a structure. In this paper, the effects of foundation size, sail layer depth under the foundation, foundation embedment and pile foundation on the vertical seismic response spectra for both surface and embedded mat foundation were studied to investigate the effects of the soft soil layer on the vertical response of a structure excited with the vertical components of Taft and El Centro earthquakes, considering the sail profile types of $S_A,S_C,S_E$ in UBC-97, the medium and large size foundations, the soil layer depth under the foundation of 30 and 60m, the foundation embedment of 0 and 15m, and the precast reinforced concrete bearing piles installed in the soft soil deposit. According to the study results, the foundation size has a little effect on the vertical seismic response, However, the soil layer depth under the foundation of 60m has to be considered for the vertical seismic analysis of a structure as for the horizontal one. The embedded pile foundations as well as the surface ones built on the soft soil layer amplified the vertical seismic response of a structure very much.

  • The retail business of drugstore was introduced to Korea for the first time 10 years ago. Since Olive Young introduced a retail store in the name of drugstore in 1999 for the first time in Korea, new distribution channel combining drugstore, cosmetic products and dairy products, etc has been made. At initial stage, the new distribution channel grew up slowly because of low specialty and economic stagnation. However, the three big distribution channels, that is to say, Olive Young (CJ), Watsons (GS) and W Store (Kolon Well Care), etc, were established to produce new distribution system following large-scaled discount stores as well as convenience stores. The purpose of the study is to investigate ways making Korean style drugstore be new retail business in addition to traditional markets, department stores, E-Mart and other general super markets and to examine problems preventing the drugstore from being promoted and to find out solutions. The speciality retailers that is called a category killer attacking department stores as well as marts is expanding market quickly. New consumption trend that gives priority to wellbeing is being expanded in accordance with high level of standards of living life: The drugstore is thought to be new alternative of distribution because it keeps special products. Young ladies who are main customers of drugstores respond to the trend sensitively to have more buying power that is thought to be promising. And, consumers' desire has become concrete and special. This is because consumers want not only convenient shopping but also special shopping system that is current trend. These days, so called Multi-shop and Total shop and other special shops have been recently opened. Special multi-shop has been concentrated on fashion product and miscellaneous goods so far: Health total wellbeing shop shall be popular in accordance with wellbeing trends. Drugstores can play an important role. Drugstores were opened for the first time ten years ago. In particular, Olive Young succeeded in going into the black after making efforts for a long time by many persons. Drugstores could succeed in the business owing to many persons in the past as well as customers who liked drugstores. However, drugstores once lost ways and recorded poor business results. The three drugstores, that is to say, Olive Young, Watsons making efforts to go into the black and W-Store pursuing traditional drugstore shall compete each other and make effort to satisfy customers' desire. In that way, the three drugstores can be assured of present business as well as future business. The consumers' demand trend has become special at sub-division so that drugstores that can satisfy the demand can succeed in the business. Large businesses may be more interested in the 4th generation retail business to produce good income and to have bright future. Drugstore business and market are likely to expand and develop owing to large business' participation in drugstore business. Drugstores expanded shop at Seoul and Gyeonggi-do until middle of 2000. Drugstore business at station sphere in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do that have high ratio of temporary population has low customer loyalty to have limitation on continuous growth. Since 2009, drugstores have opened new shops at local towns: From the year of 2010, drugstores need to establish multiple shop strategy by accelerating business speed and to allow customers to drop in the shop anywhere in the nation and to enter consumers' life deeply, so that they can strengthen business base definitely. Drugstores need to have price competitiveness to have multiple shop opening strategy and to satisfy consumers and to supply high quality services that is future subject to solve. And, Olive Young and Watsons that are Korean style drugstore need to keep system in order and to strengthen substance as Korean style drugstore and to expand marketing, so that they can get business outcome within 5 years that was done 10 years before and they become the 4th generation retail business. The study had difficulties at collecting material from the three drugstore because of poor cooperation. And, the author had great difficulty at collecting statistical material that was made in disorder. Further effort is needed considering such problems.
