The fragility curves of seismic retrofitted bridges by steel jacketing at bridge columns and restrainers at expansion joints after the 1994 Northridge earthquake are developed. Fragility curves are represented by lognormal distribution functions with two parameters (median and log-standard deviation) and developed as a function of peak ground acceleration(PGA). Two parameters in the lognormal distribution are estimated by the maximum likelihood method. The sixty ground acceleration time histories for Los Angeles area developed for FEMA SAC project are used for the dynamic analysis of bridges. The comparison of fragility curves of the bridges before and after column retrofit demonstrates that the improvement of the bridges with steel jacketing on the seismic performance is excellent for the damage states defined in this study. The comparison of fragility curves of the bridges before and after the installation of restrainers at expansion joints also shows the improvement in the seismic performance of restrained bridges for the severe damage state.

Various non-seismic tie details are frequently used for one- and two-story small buildings because the seismic demand on their deformation capacities is not relatively significant. To evaluate the effects of the non-seismic tie details on the seismic performance of reinforced concrete columns, six square columns with a cross section of $400{\times}400mm$ and six rectangular columns with a cross section of $250{\times}640mm$ were tested. The anchorage details at both ends and spacing of tie hoops, along with the cross-sectional shape and the magnitude of axial load, were considered as the primary test parameters. Test results showed that square columns had higher stiffness and lower lateral deformation rather than rectangular columns. Both lap spliced tie and U-shaped tie provided comparable or improved seismic performance to $90^{\circ}$ hook tie in terms of maximum strength, ductility, and energy dissipation. The predicted curves with modeling parameters in ASCE41-13 were conservative for test results of lap spliced tie and U-shaped tie specimens since plastic behavior after flexural yielding could not be considered. For economical design, ASCE41-13 should be revised with various test results of tie details.

Recently, RC transfer slab systems have been used widely to construct high-rise wall-type apartments for securing parking space or public space. However, it is problem that the design method and structural performance evaluation method developed for thin RC flat slab are still used in the design of the transfer slab whose thickness is very thick and therefore structural behavior is expected to be different from RC flat slab. Thus, for the rational design of the transfer slab, the ultimate shear behavior of the RC transfer slab system is required to be analyzed properly. Accordingly, in the present study, the two-way shear behavior of the transfer slab was analyzed using nonlinear FEM according to various design parameters such as thickness of the transfer slab, strength of concrete, shear span ratio, and reinforcement ratio. In addition, the two-way shear strength evaluations of RC transfer slab by the existing evaluation methods were verified by comparing those with the results of nonlinear FEM analysis.

This case study is concerned with the project of the explosive demolition for the DCRE Incheon plant located in Hakik district in Incheon city. The building was severely aging due to the high temperature and sea winds of hundreds of degrees emitted by chimney-shaped steel structures inside the building. Due to this, the concrete of the column and the beam fell off and rusted rebar were exposed, and some of the slabs were severely damaged, making it difficult for workers to access the structure. Therefore, it is not possible to apply a mechanical demolition method in which heavy equipment enters the interior of the building, and an explosive demolition method was applied to allow the building to be demolished without dismantling the internal facilities of the building. The order of blasting proceeded in the order of (1) building ${\rightarrow}$ (2) chimney 2 ${\rightarrow}$ (3) chimney 1. A total of 406 electronic detonators (Unitronic 600) was used to sequentially initiate the explosives installed at appropriate in building and chimneys.

In order to evaluate service life of RC (Reinforced Concrete) structures exposed to chloride attack, chloride penetration analysis is required referred to the chloride diffusion coefficient from the actual mix proportions. In this work, accelerated diffusion coefficients are obtained from NT BUILD 492 and ASTM C 1202 and the related apparent diffusion coefficients are derived via the previously proposed relationship for RC structures near to sea shore. Considering the properties of the mix proportions and the most conservative analysis conditions like critical and surface chloride contents, service lifes in column and exterior wall member are evaluated through conventional program LIFE 365 ver.2. The different built-up period of 10 and 15 years has no significant effect on service life. The results from mix proportions with slag show longer than 75 years of service life with the help of higher time dependent parameter and lower initial diffusion coefficient.
This paper presents a finite element model for predicting the monotonic behaviour of bolted endplate joints connecting steel-concrete composite walls and steel beams. The demountable Hollo-bolts are utilised to facilitate the quick installation and dismantling for replacement and reuse. In the developed model, material and geometric nonlinearities were included. The accuracy of the developed model was assessed by comparing the numerical results with previous experimental tests on hollow/composite column-to-steel beam joints that incorporated endplates and Hollo-bolts. In particular, the Hollo-bolts were modelled with the expanded sleeves involved, and different material properties of the Hollo-bolt shank and sleeves were considered based on the information provided by the manufacture. The developed models, therefore, can be applied in the present study to simulate the wall-to-beam joints with similar structural components and characteristics. Based on the validated model, the authors herein compared the behaviour of wall-to-beam joints of two commonly utilised composite walling systems (Case 1: flat steel plates with headed studs; Case 2: lipped channel section with partition plates). Considering the ease of manufacturing, onsite erection and the pertinent costs, composite walling system with flat steel plates and conventional headed studs (Case 1) was the focus of present study. Specifically, additional headed studs were pre-welded inside the front wall plates to enhance the joint performance. On this basis, a series of parametric studies were conducted to assess the influences of five design parameters on the behaviour of bolted endplate wall-to-beam joints. The initial stiffness, plastic moment capacity, as well as the rotational capacity of the composite wall-to-beam joints based on the numerical analysis were further compared with the current design provision.

The aim of this study is to assess the seismic performance of octagonal hollow cross section reinforced concrete bridge pier, and to investigate the effect of longitudinal reinforcement ratios on the failure behavior. Four octagonal hollow section RC bridge columns of small scale model were tested under a quasi-static cyclically reversed horizontal load with constant axial load. The volumetric ratio of transverse spiral hoop of all specimens was maintained constant(0.206%), the ratios of longitudinal reinforcement were varied(2.36 ~ 4.71%). Failure behavior and seismic performance were investigated. Three specimens with the exception of lap spliced specimen showed flexure-shear failure at final stage. The test results with the exception of lap spliced specimen showed that the displacement ductility factor and accumulated energy dissipation decreased in inverse proportion to the ratio of longitudinal steel.

A coupled wall consists of two or more reinforced concrete (RC) shear walls (SWs) connected by RC coupling beams (CBs) or steel CBs (hybrid-coupled walls). To fill the gap in the literature on the plastic hinge length of coupled walls, including coupled and hybrid-coupled shear walls, a parametric study using experimentally validated numerical models was conducted considering the axial stress ratio (ASR) and coupling ratio (CR) as the study variables. A total of sixty numerical models, including both coupled and hybrid-coupled SWs, have been developed by varying the ASR and CR within the ranges of 0.027-0.25 and 0.2-0.5, respectively. A detailed analysis was conducted in order to estimate the ultimate drift, ultimate capacity, curvature profile, yielding height, and plastic hinge length of the models. Compared to hybrid-coupled SWs, coupled SWs possess a relatively higher capacity and curvature. Moreover, increasing the ASR changes the walls' behavior to a column-like member which decreases the walls' ultimate drift, ductility, curvature, and plastic hinge length. Increasing the CR of the coupled SWs increases the walls' capacity and the risk of abrupt shear failure but decreases the walls' ductility, ultimate drift and plastic hinge length. However, CR has a negligible effect on hybrid-coupled walls' ultimate drift and moment, curvature profile, yielding height and plastic hinge length. Lastly, using the obtained results two equations were derived as a function of CR and ASR for calculating the plastic hinge length of coupled and hybrid-coupled SWs.
In this paper, parametric study was carried out to design sandwich structures for EDM machines controlling stacking sequence, stacking thickness of composites and rib configuration. Sandwich structures which are dealt with in this paper are composed of fibre reinforced composite for skin material and foam or resin concrete for core materials. The sandwich column has cruciform rib to enhance bending stiffness of the structure and the bed has several vertical ribs to resist the normal forces and vibration. The design parameters such as rib thickness and stacking sequence were controlled to enhance the system robustness. Finite element analysis was also carried out to verify the variation of static and dynamic stiffness of the structures according to the variation of the parameters. Vibration tests were performed to verify the natural frequencies and damping ratios of the manufactured composite structures. The appropriate shape and configuration conditions for micro-EDM machine structures are proposed.

The floor heating method generally uses a wet construction method including the installation of resilient material, lightweight foam concrete, heating piping, and finishing mortar. Such a wet construction method not only delays other internal finishing processes during curing period for two mortar pouring process, but also has a disadvantage that it is difficult to replace the floor heating layer when it deteriorated because it is integrated with the frame. Dry floor heating construction method can be a good alternative in that it can solve these defects. Conversely, when it applied to the wall structure that is vulnerable to the interlayer noise compared with the column-beam structure, the question about the heavy-impact sound(HIS) insulation performance is raised. Therefore, conventional dry floor heating method is hard to apply to the wall structure apartments. Therefore, for the purpose to improve the applicability of dry floor heating method in wall structure apartments, this study investigated the change of floor impact sound, especially HIS insulation performance which is one of the required performance for the floor structure. This study tried to examine whether the change of heavy-impact sound pressure level(SPL) shows a tendency at the significant level according to the shape and mass of the floor structure. Through filed experiments on wall structure apartment, this study confirmed that the form of the raised floor shows better HIS insulation performance than the fully-supported form. In addition, it was also confirmed that the HIS insulation performance increases with the mass on the upper part. Moreover, this study found the fact that a mass of about 30 kg/m2 or more should be placed on the upper structure to reduce the heavy-impact SPL according to the bang machine measuring method. Although this study has a limit due to insufficient experiment samples, if the accuracy of this study is increased, it will contribute to the diffusion of dry floor heating by setting the HIS insulation performance target and designing the dry floor heating structure that meets the target.
