Hydration heat and thermal induced cracking have always been a fatal problem for massive concrete structures. In order to study a massive reinforced concrete wall of a storage tank for liquefied natural gas (LNG) during its construction, two mock-ups of $0.8m{\times}0.8m{\times}0.8m$ without and with metal corrugated pipes were designed based on the actual wall construction plan. Temperature distribution and strain development of both mock-ups were measured and compared inside and on the surface of them. Meanwhile, time-dependent thermal and mechanical properties of the concrete were tested standardly and introduced into the finite-element (FE) software with a proposed hydration degree model. According to the comparison results, the FE simulation of temperature field agreed well with the measured data. Besides, the maximum temperature rise was slightly higher and the shrinkage was generally larger in the mock-up without pipes, indicating that corrugated pipes could reduce concrete temperature and decrease shrinkage of surrounding concrete. In addition, the cooling rate decreased approximately linearly with the reduction of heat transfer coefficient h, implying that a target cooling curve can be achieved by calculating a desired coefficient h. Moreover, the maximum cooling rate did not necessarily decrease with the extension of demoulding time. It is better to remove the formwork at least after 116 hours after concrete casting, which promises lower risk of thermal cracking of early-age concrete.
Pretensioned spun high strength concrete (PHC) pile has to be quality-controlled and provided an adequate concrete cover to assure high load carrying capacity, impact resistance, economy, and durability. During spun pre-casting, the pile section is divided into several segregated layers such as laitance, paste, mortar, and concrete layers. Greater the thickness of segregated layers, more difficult it is to guarantee the capacity and the durability of PHC pile. The experimental study was performed to investigate the effects of centrifugal condition on the segregated layers of materials and the compressive strength of concrete for PHC pile. The considering factors in the test were centrifugal time and magnitude of centrifugal force. These factors have been found to have greater influence on the segregation than the concrete strength. The moderate centrifugal condition has to be considered to maintain quality assurance in the production of PHC pile, especially to provide the adequate concrete cover over its tendons.

A new kind of partially precast or prefabricated castellated steel reinforced concrete beam, which is abbreviated here as CPSRC beam, was presented and introduced in this paper. This kind of CPSRC beam is composed of a precast outer-part and a cast-in-place inner-part. The precast outer-part is composed of an encased castellated steel shape, reinforcement bars and high performance concrete. The cast-in-place inner-part is made of common strength concrete, and is casted with the floor slabs simultaneously. In order to investigate the shear performance of the CPSRC beam, experiments of six CPSRC T-beam specimens, together with experiments of one cast-in-place SRC control T-beam specimen were conducted. All the specimens were subjected to sagging bending moment (or positive moment). In the tests, the influence of casting different strength of concrete in the cross section on the shear performance of the PPSRC beam was firstly emphasized, and the effect of the shear span-to-depth ratio on that were also especially taken into account too. During the tests, the shear force-deflection curves were recorded, while the strains of concrete, the steel shapes as well as the reinforcement stirrups at the shear zone of the specimens were also measured, and the crack propagation pattern together with the failure pattern was as well observed in detail. Based on the test results, the shear failure mechanism was clearly revealed, and the effect of the concrete strength and shear span-to-depth ratios were investigated. The shear capacity of such kind of CPSRC was furthermore discussed, and the influences of the holes on the steel shape on the shear performance were particularly analyzed.

The service life of concrete structure is to a great extent influenced by crack developed at early ages of concrete material. Especially, hydration heat is a main cause of thermal cracking at mass concrete structures. The thermal cracking of massive structure is analyzed of the thermal cracking index which was presented Concrete Standard Specifications. The thesis analyzed the thermal cracking index which considered various variable (cement type, height of casting, curing condition, concrete mixing temperature, the unit cement content) at internal restricted mass concrete. The analysis result is denoted increase and decrease rate of thermal cracking index whenever the variables change. The results is helped to understand thermal cracking every time structures is designed and constructed. And I think that it is useful economic and stable design of mass concrete structures.

Accurate estimates of in place thickness of early age (3 to 28 days after casting) concrete pavements are needed, where a thickness accuracy of ${\pm}6mm$ is desired. The impact-echo method is a standardized non-destructive technique that has been applied for this task. However, the ability of impact-echo to achieve this precision goal is affected by Vp (measured) and ${\beta}$ (assumed) values that are applied in the computation. A deeper understanding of the effects of these parameters on the accuracy of impact-echo should allow the technique to be improved to meet the desired accuracy goal. In this paper, the results of experimental tests carried out on a range of concrete slabs are reported. Impact-echo thickness estimation errors caused by material property gradients and sensor type are identified. Correction factors to the standard analysis method are proposed to correct the identified errors and to increase the accuracy of the standard method. Results show that improved accuracy can be obtained in the field by applying these recommendations with the standard impact-echo method.
High-strength concrete (HSC) generally is made with high amount of cement which may release large amount of hydration heat at early age. The hydration heat will increase the internal temperature of slab and may cause potential cracking. In this study, slab specimens with a dimension of 600 × 600 × 100 mm were cast with concrete incorporating silica fume for test. The thermistors were embedded in the slabs therein to investigate the interior temperature development. The test variables include water-to-binder ratio (0.25, 0.35, 0.40), the cement replacement ratio of silica fume (RSF; 5 %, 10 %, 15 %) and fly ash (RFA; 10 %, 20 %, 30 %). Test results show that reducing the W/B ratio of HSC will enhance the temperature of first heat peak by hydration. The increase of W/B decrease the appearance time of second heat peak, but increase the corresponding maximum temperature. Increase the RSF or decrease the RFA may decrease the appearance time of second heat peak and increase the maximum central temperature of slab. HSC slab with the range of W/B ratio of 0.25 to 0.40 may occur cracking within 4 hours after casting. Reducing W/B may lead to intensive cracking damage, such as more crack number, and larger crack width and length.

PSC(Prestressed Concrete) box girder bridges have been widely applied in Korea. A number of these bridges have been built by the segmental construction method in the longitudinal direction and(or) vertically along the cross-sectional depth with MSS(Moving Scaffolding System). An actual 2-span continuous PSC box girder bridge of Kyeongbu high speed railway was selected and instrumented with 96 vibrating wire embedded type strain gauges and 2 thermocouples. The long-term behavior of the bridge was monitored through two major points located at mid-span of the first span and at the internal support. Data collection started just after the casting of the first segment (U section). Concrete strain and temperature data were gathered regularly by a data logger (CR10) during 600 days under and after construction. According to this measurement, the parabolic longitudinal strain distribution in the top slab at mid-span is shown. And also, the same distribution at the interior support is shown. The compressive strains at the cantilever region are larger than at the web position and the internal part in the top slab. Strain difference largely happened during the early construction period.

The literature of present study was performed with content of chloride by total 6 level. After casting, and then, to measure the results of corrosion in a quick time used accelerated method of corrosion during 20 weeks. Both Galvanic and Half-cell for 20 weeks was used to model the initial time to corrosion, and then current of corrosion was measured by using Linear polarization at the end of cycling. The processing of steel used in concrete is same way as the case of mortar and also the initial time of corrosion was measured.
This paper is conducted to compare the seismic design standard of a bridge column such as the Korean Bridge Design Standard(KBDS), EC 8, NZS 3101 and ATC 32. The KBDS adopted the seismic design requirements in 1992. The earthquake magnitude in Korea is compared with those in the west coast of the USA. It may be said that the current seismic design requirements of the KBDS provides design results, that are too conservative especially for transverse reinforcement details and amounts in reinforced concrete columns. This fact usually creates construction problems in concrete casting, due to congestion of transverse reinforcement. Furthermore, the effective stiffness; $I_{eff}$ depends on both the axial load P/$A_gF_{ck}$ and the longitudinal reinforcement ratio $A_{st}/A_g, so it is the conservative to use the effective stiffness I$_{eff}$ than the gross section stiffness Ig. Seismic design for the transverse reinforcement content of the concrete column was analyzed and considered to have an extreme-fiber compression strain, response modification factor, axial load and effective stiffness etc.c.

An innovative partially precast partially encased composite beam (PPECB) is put forward based on the existing research. In order to study the flexural performance of the new composite beam which has precast part and cast-in-place part, six prefabricated specimens and one cast-in-place specimen are designed with considering the influence of the production method, the steel flange thickness, the concrete strength grade and the stirrup process on the behavior of the composite beam. Through four points loading and test data collection and analysis, the behavior of partially prefabricated specimen is similar to that of cast-in-place specimen, and the casting method, the thickness of the steel flange, the concrete strength grade and the stirrup process have different influence on the crack, yield and peak load bearing capacity of the component. Finally, the calculation theory of plastic bending of partially precast partially encased concrete composite beams is given. The calculation results are in good agreement with the experimental results, which can be used for practical engineering theory guidance. This paper can provide reference value for further research and engineering application.
