  • This paper is on experimental study on the behavior of reinforced concrete columns subjected to longitudinal steel ratio To investigate the effects of concrete strength and longitedinal steel ratio on the behavior of reinforced concrete columns. a series of tests were carried out for thirty-six tied reinforced concrete columns with a 100mm square cross section and three slendemess ratio of 15, 30 and 50. And To study and illustrate the change of the ultimate loads and that of displacements, two different concrete strength of 180,26kfg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, 819,36kfg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and five different longitudinal steel ratio of 0.5, 1.0, 4.0, 5.7 and 10.3% were used. The boundary conditions at the ends were both hinged and the end eccentricities (17mm) were equal and of the same sign. While the ultimate load capacity of high-strength concrete column was much increased when the columns were short, that was not when the columns were slender. The effect of longitudinal steel ratio on the increased of ultimate load of column was more evident for slender columns than for short ones and the ultimate of longitudinal steel ratio were more pronounced with increasing concrete strength. The more inserted the longitudinal steel, the more increased the ultimate load, but the superabundance of longitudinal steel ratio over the limitation of maximum steel ratio in ACI code was used, it was showed that the ultimate load was rather decreased.

  • The object of this study is to investigate experimentally the shear behavior of reinforced concrete beams using recycled coarse aggregate. At first, the specimens are manufactured for the compressive strength of 210kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ with recycled coarse aggregate ratio of 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%, respectively. From the results, Reinforced concrete beams using recycled coarse aggregate were made with recycled coarse aggregate ratio of 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, with stirrups and recycled coarse aggregate ratio of 0%, 20%, 40% without stirrups. The results of crack pattern and failure mode, load-displacement curve(center point and load point) and load-steel curve(compressive, tensile, stirrup) were analysed. It is concluded from the test that the shear behavior of recycled concrete beams is determined to have similar behavior of normal concrete beams. Therefore, from this study the application of recycled concrete to concrete structures may be possible. But, for using the recycled concrete widely, it is expected that the more studies on quality control, substitution ratio and mix design related with recycled concrete are necessary.

  • In locations where the cost or concrete is relatively high, or in situations where the weight or concrete members is to be kept to a minimum, it may be economical to use hollow reinforced concrete vertical members. Hollow reinforced concrete columns with low axial load, moderate longitudinal steel percentage, and a reasonably thick wall were found to perform in a ductile manner at the flexural strength, similar to solid columns. However, hollow reinforced concrete columns with high axial load, high longitudinal steel percentage, and a thin wall were found to behave in a brittle manner at the flexural strength, since the neutral axis is forced to occur away from the inside face of the tube towards the section centroid and, as a result, crushing of concrete occurs near the unconfined inside face of the section. If, however, a steel tube is placed near the inside face of a circular hollow column, the column can be expected not to fail in a brittle manner by disintegration of the concrete in the compression zone. Design recommendation and example by moment-curvature analysis program for curvature ductility are presented. Theoretical moment-curvature analysis for reinforced concrete columns, indicating the available flexural strength and ductility, can be conducted providing the stress-strain relation for the concrete and steel are known. In this paper, a unified stress-stain model for confined concrete by Mander is developed for members with circular sections.

  • Steel reinforced concrete is perhaps the most versatile and widely used construction material. The versatility is attributed to mouldability of concrete to any conceivable shape. The inherent property of cracking of concrete is the reason for its low tensile strength and hence the design approach of RCC sections in flexure adopts the cracked section theory where in concrete in tension zone is ignored. Means, modes and methods of exploitation of concrete strength by conceiving shapes other than rectangular whereby ineffective concrete in tension zone is reduced and incorporated in compression zone where it is effective needs consideration. Shape optimization of beams is attempted in this analytical investigation employing Sequential Unconstrained Minimization Technique (SUMT). The results clearly show that trapezoidal beams happen to be less costlier than their rectangular counterparts, their usage needs serious reconsideration by the designers.

  • For reaching large inelastic deformations without a substantial loss in strength, the potential plastic hinge regions of the reinforced concrete structural members should be confined by adequate transverse reinforcement. Therefore, simple and realistic representation of confined concrete behaviour is needed for inelastic analysis of reinforced concrete structures. In this study, a trilinear stress-strain model is proposed for the axial behaviour of confined concrete. The model is based on experimental work that was carried out on nearly full size specimens. During the interpretation of experimental data, the buckling and strain hardening of the longitudinal reinforcement are also taken into account. The proposed model is used for predicting the stress-strain relationships of confined concrete specimens tested by other researchers. Although the proposed model is simpler than most of the available models, the comparisons between the predicted results and experimental data indicate that it can represent the stress-strain relationship of confined concrete quite realistically.

  • Specialty cellulose fibers processed for the reinforcement of concrete offer relatively high levels of elastic modulus and bond strength. The hydrophilic surfaces of specialty cellulose fibers facilitate their dispersion and bonding in concrete. Specialty cellulose fibers have small effective diameters which are comparable to the cement particle size, and thus promote close packing and development of dense bulk and interface microstructure in the matrix. The relatively high surface area and the close spacing of specialty cellulose fibers when combined with their desirable mechanical characteristic make them quite effective in the suppression and stabilization of microcracks in the concrete matrix. The properties of fresh mixed specialty cellulose fiber reinforced concrete and the contribution of specialty cellulose fiber to the restrained shrinkage crack reduction potential of cement composites at early age and theirs evaluation are presented in this paper. Results indicated that specialty cellulose fiber reinforcement showed an ability to reduce the total area significantly (as compared to plain concrete and polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete.

  • As this study investigates the influence about type of transverse reinforcement, spacing of transverse reinforcement(s), volumetric ratios of transverse reinforcement(${\rho}s$) of ultra-high strength concrete columns. It try to offer to resonable basic data of the confined model for the ultra-high concrete of in reinforced concrete columns. Experimental tests with large scaled columns were conducted under concentric axial loads. The ultra-high strength concrete (100MPa) was used. From this test result, it evaluate influence of the strength enhancement and ductility enhancement, important variables about behavior of the confined concrete by confinement of ultra-high strength reinforced concrete. There are two ways to improve the confinement effect of high strength concrete columns through the increase of amounts and/or strength of transverse reinforcement.

  • The use of steel fiber reinforced to improve the strength and flexural toughness of concrete is well known, but reinforcement of polymer concrete with steel fibers has been hardly reported till now. Polymer concrete has high strength, durability and freeze-thaw resistance than that of cement concrete, but it has disadvantage such as low flexural toughness. In this paper, the strength characteristics and flexural toughness of steel fiber reinforced polymer concrete are investigated experimentally with various steel fiber aspect ratios($\ell$/d), and contents(vol.%). As the result, the flexural and splitting tensile strengths and flexural toughness were increased aspect ratio, and reach the maximums at a aspect ratio of 50. The relationship between the compressive, flexural and splitting tensile strength were high. And the relationship between flexural strength and strain energy was approximately linear.

  • This paper is concentrated on the behaviors of five different types of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) in uniaxial tension and flexural impact. The complete stress-strain responses in tension were acquired through a systematic experimental program. It was found that the tensile peak strains of concrete with micro polyethylene (PEF) fiber are about 18-31% higher than that of matrix concrete, those for composite with macro polypropylene fiber is 40-83% higher than that of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC). The fracture energy of composites with micro-fiber is 23-67% higher than that of matrix concrete; this for macro polypropylene fiber and steel fiber FRCs are about 150-210% and 270-320% larger than that of plain concrete respectively. Micro-fiber is more effective than macro-fiber for initial crack impact resistance; however, the failure impact resistance of macro-fiber is significantly larger than that of microfiber, especially macro-polypropylene-fiber.

  • The use of carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRP) has widely increased due to its enhancement in the ultimate strength and ductility of the reinforced concrete (RC) structures. This study presents a prediction model for the axial compressive strength and strain of normal-strength concrete cylinders confined with CFRP. Besides, soft computing approaches have been extensively used to model in many areas of civil engineering applications. Therefore, the genetic expression programming (GEP) models to predict axial compressive strength and strain of CFRP-confined concrete specimens were used in this study. For this purpose, the parameters of 283 CFRP-confined concrete specimens collected from 38 experimental studies in the literature were taken into account as input variables to predict GEP based models. Then, the results of GEP models were statistically compared with those of models proposed by various researchers. The values of R2 for strength and strain of CFRP-confined concrete were obtained as 0.897 and 0.713, respectively. The results of the comparison reveal that the proposed GEP-based models for CFRP-confined concrete have the best efficiency among the existing models and provide the best performance.
