Analysis of the relationships between topographic factors and landslide occurrence and their application to landslide susceptibility mapping: a case study of Mingchukur, Uzbekistan

  • This paper uses a probability-based approach to study the spatial relationships between landslides and their causative factors in the Mingchukur area, Bostanlik districts of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The approach is based on digital databases and incorporates methods including probability analysis, spatial pattern analysis, and interactive mapping. First, an object-oriented conceptual model for describing landslide events is proposed, and a combined database of landslides and environmental factors is constructed by integrating various databases within a unifying conceptual framework. The frequency ratio probability model and landslide occurrence data are linked for interactive, spatial evaluation of the relationships between landslides and their causative factors. In total, 15 factors were analyzed, divided into topography, hydrology, and geology categories. All analyzed factors were also divided into numerical and categorical types. Numerical factors are continuous and were evaluated according to their $R^2$ values. A landslide susceptibility map was constructed based on conditioning factors and landslide occurrence data using the frequency ratio model. Finally, the map was validated and the accuracy showed the satisfactory value of 83.3%.

  • This paper presents the design and implementaion of an object-relational geographic information system. This system has been developed on top of a commercial object-relational database management system. It provides flexible spatial data model, spatial query language, visual user interface, and efficient spatial access methods(D0T) in which traditional primary-key access methods can be applied. We report on our design choices and describe the current status of Implementation. The conceptual model of the system is based on SDTS, and is mapped to the intemal obiect-oriented data model.   • The national topographic basedata should meet a variety of user requirements. To generate, maintain and handle the national topographic basedata in economic and effective way, the nationally supported research works on data model, structure and feature classification system should be intensively undertaken by government agency, research institute and university. This paper presents the technical definitions of conceptual and logical model for proposed data model representing digital map data. The key aspects of the proposed data model are flexibility for accommodating user requirements as well as step-by-step approach for modification as necessary m recent future. Conclusively, the proposed data model is a transitional data model between simple graphical model and object oriented data model.

  • This study was done to analyze and develop the concept of coping in patients receiving hemodialysis. The Hybrid Model of concept development was applied to develop a conceptual structure of coping in patients receiving hemodialysis, which included a field study carried out using an in-dept interview with 18 patients in the hemodialysis room of one general hospital in Seoul. Data-analysis was done in three phases as suggested by the Hybrid Model. Finally, by summarizing the results from each case, the attributes of coping, its dimensions, definition and structure were outlined. According to the results of the study, a conceptual structure of coping which centers around stressors, stress-appraisal, strategy of coping and new definitions of coping in patients receiving hemodialysis was suggested : The coping of patients receiving hemodialysis is a process that deals with physical, emotional, inter-personal, and role stress caused by hemodialysis due to renal failure. It has a series of phases which include a phase that appraises the stressful situation based on past experience of chronic disease management, one's remaining rears, the extent of family support, the extent of economic dependency, inter-personal support. education and uncertainty, and a phase of developing coping strategies that con be affected by social support and self esteem. As a result of coping, patients adapt or not to the life situation of receiving hemodialysis.

Requirement-Oriented Entity Relationship Modeling

  • Most of enterprises depend on a data modeler during developing their management information systems. In formulating business requirements for information systems, they widely and naturally use the interview method between a data modeler and a field worker. But, the discrepancy between both parties would certainly cause information loss and distortion that lead to let the systems not faithful to real business works. To improve or avoid modeler-dependant data modeling process, many automated data design CASE tools have been introduced. However, since most of traditional CASE tools just support drawing works for conceptual data design, a data modeler could not generate an ERD faithful to real business works and a user could not use them without any knowledge on database. Although some CASE tools supported conceptual data design, they still required too much preliminary database knowledge for a user. Against these traditional CASE tools, we proposed a Requirement-Oriented Entity Relationship Model for automated data design tool, called ROERM. Based on Non-Stop Methodology, ROERM adopts inner systematic modules for complete and sound ERD that is faithful to real field works, where modules are composed of interaction modules with a user, rules of schema operations and sentence translations. In addition to structure design of ROERM, we also devise detailed algorithms and perform an experiment for a case study.

  • This paper deals with a space identity development model using design process. The main contents of the study are as follows. First, this study has defined the design process concept and studied various design process model. Second, the meaning of space design process was studied and concept definition was made. Third, it developed a conceptual model of space design process for developing space identity. Finally, a conceptual model that can define space identity by applying design process to complex and various types of space is studied and presented. This study applied positivist research methods such as literature review and various theoretical review to study design process and space identity. The research on space design process adopts indirect research method based on previous research data.

  • In this paper, we present a stepwise design methodology for relational databases using a new conceptual data model, the MAO(Multiple Aspects-based Object) model. Our methodology consists two steps : first, data requirements are conceptualized using the MAO model with concepts such as objects types and aspect types : second, the MAO model is transformed into the third normal form inn the relational model supported by commercial DBMs. A top-down approach is used for the MAO modelling in the first, step, and the transformation process in the second step can be automated. Our methodology supports easier and more database design of real world than other methodologies using existing data models.

  • In the earlier study, Park (2002) described the process of student' conceptual change as a successive refinement and articulation of their conceptual framework. In this study, the process of conceptual change for three university students were analyzed more in depth. As results, six types of conceptual change through successive refinement and articulation were observed: (1) original conception was elaborated in detail, (2) conception was differentiated according to the context, (3) some conceptions were re-explained theoretically after construction it based on experimental data, (4) non-coherent conceptions in the early stage get to have coherency in the later stage, (5) model of explanation gets to be complicated by excluding ideal conditions, (6) qualitative explanations were changed into quantitative ones.

The Effect of Bias in Data Set for Conceptual Clustering Algorithms

  • When a partitioned structure is derived from a data set using a clustering algorithm, it is not unusual to have a different set of outcomes when it runs with a different order of data. This problem is known as the order bias problem. Many algorithms in machine learning fields try to achieve optimized result from available training and test data. Optimization is determined by an evaluation function which has also a tendency toward a certain goal. It is inevitable to have a tendency in the evaluation function both for efficiency and for consistency in the result. But its preference for a specific goal in the evaluation function may sometimes lead to unfavorable consequences in the final result of the clustering. To overcome this bias problems, the first clustering process proceeds to construct an initial partition. The initial partition is expected to imply the possible range in the number of final clusters. We apply the data centric sorting to the data objects in the clusters of the partition to rearrange them in a new order. The same clustering procedure is reapplied to the newly arranged data set to build a new partition. We have developed an algorithm that reduces bias effect resulting from how data is fed into the algorithm. Experiment results have been presented to show that the algorithm helps minimize the order bias effects. We have also shown that the current evaluation measure used for the clustering algorithm is biased toward favoring a smaller number of clusters and a larger size of clusters as a result.

  • Purpose: In this research, We made the conceptual frameworks for SEM(Structural Equation Modeling) on Global quality's origin and empirical research. Developing conceptual frameworks is an important step in theory building and theory testing. This research model was developed by strong theoretical foundation which is quality and systematical model. Methods: Questionnaire was developed, and data was collected and analyzed for this study. The analysis was conducted using SEM(Structural Equation Modeling). Results: Results show that process quality and interaction quality are important drivers in customer satisfaction. Customer satisfaction is strongly impact on customer loyalty(repeated purchase). Conclusion: In turbulent business era, Global company require not only excellent quality but also create customer oriented culture and control over operation in the foreign country.
