  • In this study, we propose a spherical flux concentration structure for omnidirectional wireless power transfer. Omnidirectional wireless power transfer technology is a method that can transmit power to a transmitter located in an arbitrary position in a two-dimensional or three-dimensional space. However, to improve the power transfer distance in a wireless power transfer system, the diameter of the coil or the number of windings must increase, thereby increasing the size of the transmitter. The proposed transmitter structure adds a ferrite core inside the transmitter coil so that the magnetic flux generated by the transmitter is directed toward the position of the receiver. As a result, the flux linkage and the mutual inductance increase. By implementing the omnidirectional wireless power transfer system using the proposed structure, the power transfer distance can be improved by 65% compared with the conventional system without increasing the size of the transmitter. Simulation shows that the proposed spherical flux concentration structure increases the mutual inductance of the omnidirectional wireless power transmission system.

  • The pigment composition and concentration of phytoplankton assemblages using HPLC in the adjacent waters of four nuclear power plants (Yonggwang, Kori, Wolsong and Ulchin) were investigated during the spring blooming in 2004. The mean concentration of chlorophyll a ranged from 563.8 to 2,949.0ng $l^{-1}$, with the lowest concentration at Kori and the highest concentration at Wolsong. Among the carotenoids, the amounts of fucoxanthin and chlorophyll $C_2$ were relatively higher than those of other pigments in the study site. As minor pigments, zeaxanthin, chlorophyll b, 19'-butanoyloxyfucoxanthin, diadinoxanthin, 19'-hexanoyloxyfucoxanthin, chlorophyll $C_3$ and peridinin were detected. The results of pigment composition and concentration showed that diatoms had an important proportion of phytoplankton community when a spring bloom occurred. Cyanobacteria was present relatively low density at the Wolsong and the green alga such as chlorophytes and prasinophytes were abundant at the Yonggwang and Kori, while dinoflagellates characterized by peridinin were common at Ulchin and Kori. The pigment composition and concentration of phytoplankton after passing through the cooling-water system of nuclear power plant were highly variable. No distinct trend of the change of each pigment composition and amount was detected but the variation of fucoxanthin and chlorophyll $C_2$ highly coupled with that of chlorophyll a. We pointed out that the diatom controlled the overall variation of phytoplankton biomass during the spring season.

  • Extraction characteristics of garlic and functional properties of corresponding extract were monitored by response surface methodology (RSM). Maximum extraction yield of 26.41% was obtained at microwave power of 146.29 W, ethanol concentration of 63.31 %, and extraction time of 5.88 min. At microwave power, ethanol concentration, and extraction time of 114.84 W, 58.83%, and 1.42 min, respectively, maximum electron-donating ability (EDA) was 72.86%. Maximum nitrite-scavenging ability was 94.62% at microwave power, ethanol concentration, and extraction time of 81.83 W, 2.65%, and 3.83 min, respectively. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) showed maximum pseudo-activity of 49.12% at microwave power of 34.23 W, ethanol concentration of 33.11 %, and extraction time of 4.40 min. Based on superimposition of 4-dimensional RSM with respect to extraction yield, electron-donating ability, nitrite-scavenging ability, and pseudo-activity of SOD, optimum ranges of extraction conditions were microwave power of 0-100 W, ethanol concentration of 40-70%, and extraction time of 2-8 min.

  • Response surface methodology was employed to optimize extraction conditions for finding the maximal functional properties of Pleurotus eryngii. Based on central composite design, the study plan was established with variations of microwave power (30-150 W), ethanol concentration (0-99.9%), and extraction time (1-9 min). Regression analysis was applied to obtain a mathematical model. A maximal yield of 47.86% was obtained when the microwave power, ethanol concentration, and extraction time were set at 122.7 W, 42.14%, and 8.3 min, respectively. A maximized electron donating ability of 93.32% was found under the following conditions: a microwave power of 144.19 W, an ethanol concentration of 49.52%, and an extraction time of 6.7 min. When the microwave power, ethanol concentration, and extraction time were set at 125.43 W, 40.54%, and 8.1 min, respectively, the maximum nitrite-scavenging ability was 80.47%. The optimum ranges of the extraction conditions, superimposed by the response surface methodology, could predicate a microwave power of 110-150 W, ethanol concentration of 0-45%, and extraction time of 7-9 min.

  • The fluid retention effect of the Volume Control Tank (VCT) leads to a long time delay in Reactor Coolant System (RCS) concentration during the boration process. A coupled model combining a lumped-parameter sub-model and a computational fluid dynamics sub-model is currently used to investigate the concentration dynamic characteristic of RCS during the boration process. This model is validated by comparison with experimental data, and the predicted results show excellent agreement with experimental data. We provide detailed fields in VCT and concentration variations of RCS to study the interaction between mixing in VCT and the transient responses of RCS. Moreover, the impacts of the inlet flow rate, inlet nozzle diameter, original concentration, and replenishing temperature of VCT on the RCS concentration characteristic are studied. The inlet flow rate and nozzle diameter of VCT remarkably affect the RCS concentration characteristic. Too-large or too-small inlet flow rates and nozzle diameters will lead to unacceptable long delays. In this work, the optimal inlet flow rate and nozzle diameter of VCT are 5 m3/h and 58.8 mm, respectively. Besides, the impacts of the original concentration and replenishing temperature of VCT are negligible under normal operating conditions.

  • The switching characteristics of MOS-Controlled Thyristor(MCT) is studied with variation of the channel length and impurity concentration in ON and OFF FET channel. The proposed MCT power device has the lateral structure and P-epitaxial layer in substrate. Two dimensional MEDICI simulator and PSPICE simulator are used to study the latch-up current and forward voltage-drop from the characteristics of I-V and the switching characteristics with variation of channel length and impurity concentration in P and N channel. The channel length and N impurity concentration of the proposed MCT power device show the strong affect on the transient characteristics of current and power. The N channel length affects only on the OFF characteristics of power and anode current, while the N doping concentration in P channel affects on the ON and OFF characteristics.

  • The maintenance of condenser main pipe is the key to achieve film-forming amine maintenance effectiveness. In this work, oxygen content, pH and temperature of the solution were controlled to simulate the condition of condenser main pipe, and magnetite coated carbon steel sample was prepared by pre-oxidization. CAM was used to characterize the hydrophobicity of film formed samples. Hydrophobic film was formed on pre-oxidized carbon steel samples when octadecylamine concentration reaches 20 mg/kg. SEM, EDS, EIS, and PD were used to characterize the influence of octadecylamine concentration on maintenance effectiveness. It was found that the maintenance effectiveness was enhanced and the corrosion rate was suppressed with the increase of octadecylamine concentration. FIB and TEM were used to detect the adsorbed octadecylamine film thickness founding that octadecylamine adsorbed onto the surface of pre-oxidized carbon steel by multi-layer adsorption mechanism.

  • Heliostat in the tower type solar thermal power plant is a sun tracking mirror system to reflect the solar energy to the receiver and the optical performance of it affects to the efficiency of whole power plant most significantly. Thus a solid understanding of heliostat's energy concentration characteristics is the most important step in designing of the heliostat field and the whole power plant. The work presented here is the analysis of energy concentration characteristics of heliostat used in 200kW solar thermal power plant, where the receiver located at 43m high in tower has $2{\times}2$m rectangular shape. The heliostat reflective surface is formed by 4 of $1{\times}1$m flat plate mirror facet and the mirror facet is mounted on the spherical frame. The direct normal incident radiation models in vernal equinox, summer solstice, autumnal equinox and winter solstice are first derived from the actually measured data. Then the intercept ratio, heat flux distribution and total energy collected at the receiver for the heliostats located in the various places of the heliostat field are investigated. Finally the effect of mirror facet installation error on the optical performance of the heliostat is analyzed.

  • Optimal extraction conditions for yield, browning color, electron donating ability, nitrite scavenging effect, total polyphenol content and tyrosinase inhibitory activity of Lyophyllum ulmarium were determined by using response surface methodology (RSM) through the central composite design. The extraction yield of Lyophyllum ulmarium was effected by ethanol concentration and browning color was improved with the increase of ethanol concentration than microwave power. The nitrite scavenging effect was improved with the increase of ethanol concentration and decrease of microwave power The electron donating ability, browning color, tyrosinase inhibitory activity and total polyphenol content were improved with the increase in ethanol concentration and microwave power. The optimal ranges of extraction conditions for effective components of Lyophyllim ulmarium were predicted as 60.05~102.75 watt of microwave power, 53.20~64.01% of ethanol concentration and 7.77 min of extraction time.

  • Co and Eu impurities in the SSCs are nuclides that dominantly influence the neutron-induced radioactive inventory in metal and concrete radwastes (radioactive wastes) during NPP decommission. The impurity concentrations provided by NUREG/CR-3474 were used for the practical range of Co and Eu impurity concentrations to be applied to the code calculations. Metal structures near the core were evaluated to be ILW (intermediate-level waste) for the whole range of Co impurity concentration, so the boundary line between ILW and LLW (low-level waste) has no change for the whole concentration range provided by NUREG/CR-3474. Also, the boundary line between VLLW (very low-level waste) and CW (clearance waste) in the concrete shield could alter a little depending on the Eu impurity concentration within the range provided by NUREG/CR-3474. From this work, it is found that the concentration of material impurities of SSCs gives no critical impact on determining radwaste levels.
