  • Recently microcomputers have come into wide use in the field of the control. They are used not only as monitors and as controllers in the various plant control systems but also as the Computer Aided Design of control systems. As an example of the design and the realtime control of the control system using Microcomputer, the optimal design of the control system of which the numerator of the transfer function is constant have been reported by authors. In this paper, author proposes a method to design the optimal controller about the control system of which the numerator of the transfer function is not constant, and develops the program of the response simulation.

  • This paper describes a requirement analysis for automotive engine design using a computer aided systems engineering tool RDD-100. Because the engine is a complex system with many subsystems, there are many needs of stakeholder throughout the life-cycle of the engine. The originating requirements have been derived from the needs and decomposed into leaf-node requirements with the tool. Many requirement errors have been detected during the decomposition process and resolved by modifying the requirements. Inconsistency problems have been also resolved with the tool, Analysis of engine requirements using RDD-100 brings clarity to engine design early in the development process.

  • A robust control design scheme using well-developed SISO techniques is proposed for maglev vehicles that are inherently unstable MIMO systems. The proposed separate control method has basically two control loops: a stabilizing loop by a pole-placement technique, and a performance loop using a novel optimal LQ loop-shaping technique. This paper shows that the coupling terms involved in maglev vehicles with multimagnets should not be neglected but compensated for their stability and performance robustness. The robustness properties of the proposed control system are then evaluated under variations of vehicle masses and air gaps through a computer simulation. This paper also describes the reason why the proposed control technique can be suggested as a tool using only SISO techniques in controlling unstable MIMO systems such as maglev vehicles.

  • In this paper, we proposed a heart activity control model for simulation of the aortic sinus baroreceptor, which was the most representative baroreceptor sensing the variance of pressure in the cardiovascular system. And then, the heart activity control model composed electric circuit model of the cardiovascular system with baroreflex control and time delay sub-model to observe the effect of time delay in heart period and stroke volume under the regulation of baroreflex in the aortic sinus. The mechanism of time delay in the heart activity baroreflex control model is as follows. A control function is conduct sensing pressure information in the aortic sinus baroreceptor to transmit the efferent nerve through central nervous system. As simulation results of the proposed model, we observed three patterns of the cardiovascular system variability by the time delay. First of all, if the time delay over 2.5 second, aortic pressure and stroke volume and heart rate was observed non-periodically and irregularly. However, if the time delay from 0.1 second to 0.25 second, the regular oscillation was observed. And then, if time delay under 0.1 second, then heart rate and aortic pressure-heart rate trajectory were maintained in stable state.

  • A successful, computer-aided design support system can help a process designer focus on making effective design decisions, not merely tedious routine calculations. Such a system is essential to enhance quality of design in terms of economics, environmental benignity, reliability, robustness, and operability. Such a statement is even more accepted when applied to conceptual design problems, where gross design specifications are given while a combinatorial number of design alternatives exists. This paper presents an agent-based approach as a systematic and efficient way to design a design support system for the synthesis of conceptual chemical processes. An agent-based approach allows us to handle design knowledge as an object and thus greatly improve the modularity and reusability of that knowledge. Such modularity and reusability lead to the increased productivity in the development of a design support system and the increased ease in the relaxation of design decisions and the generation of design alternatives, both of which functions are critically important in dealing with the complexity and uncertainty of conceptual design problems.

  • SFFS(Solid Freeform Fabrication System) is commercializing to rapid prototyping concept in foreign some corporations including the U.S.A, have much technological problems yet and need new mode for agile prototyping. In this paper, we design algorithm that the cutting path of laser beam, on the SFFS(Solid Freeform Fabrication System), is controlled with constant speed. The designed algorithm for constant-speed path control is implemented and experimented in the CAFL$\^$VM/ (Computer Aided Fabrication of Lamination for Various Material) system, the new SFFS which was developed in this paper.

  • This paper presents a design and implementation of CAD(Computer-Aided Design) system with tools and design environments for IC(Intergrated Circuits)design. The CAD system can be easily installed in various sites with limited resources, since most CAD tools and design environments are available in the public-domain and Unix & X Window-based PC-386 and Workstation is used for the hardware platform. In order to improve the flexibility of the CAD system, objects are defined in the context of tools and environments` and object tables are programmed to describe the integration of CAD tools and design environments. During the execution, tool-objects deal with intertool communication and round-robin mechanism to incrementally control the execution of CAD tools. The IC design of LPC(Linear Predictive Coding) Speech Synthesizer is carried out to find out improvements and bugs of the CAD system.

  • This paper presents the design and development of a scaled down physical model for power Distribution Automation (DA) system simulation. The developed DA system simulator is useful in providing hands-on experience to utility engineers / managers to familiarize with the DA system and gain confidence in managing the power distribution system from the computer aided distribution control center. The distribution automation system simulator can be effectively used to carry out further research work in this area. This also helps the undergraduate and graduate students to understands the power distribution automation technology in the laboratory environment. The developed DA simulator has become an integral part of a distribution automation lab in the Electrical Engineering Department at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in India.

  • This article proposes an integrated systems engineering and safety analysis model for safety-critical systems development. A methodology in system design for safety is considered during the early phase of the development life cycle of systems engineering process. The evolution of the design automation technology has enabled engineers to perform the model-based systems engineering. A Computer-Aided Systems Engineering(CASE) tool, CORE, is utilized to integrate the systems engineering model with a system safety analysis model. The results of the functional analysis phase can drive the analysis of the system safety. An example of Communications-Based Train Control(CBTC) system for an Automated Guided Transit(AGT) system demonstrated an application of the integrated model.

  • Existing CAD systems do nto provide the advanced function for systematic checking of design and drafting errors in mechanical drawings. This paper describes a method for sytematic checking of global parts in mechanical drawings. The checking items are deficiency and redundancy of dimensions, input-errors in dimension figures and symbols, etc. Checking for deficiency and redundancy of global dimensions has been performed applying Graph Theory. This system has been applied to several examples and we have confirmed the feasibility of this checing method.
