  • Recently, role-based distributed system models have been proposed to support adaptive interactions in ubiquitous application environment. A Role-based distributed model regards an application as an organization composed of roles, and separate players running role processes from the roles. When an application is running, it binds a role with a player, and the player runs dynamically assigned role processes provided by an application for supporting adaptability. However, there has not been much attention on researches about development and runtime environment for role-based distributed systems. In this paper we suggest an application framework as an environment for developing and executing role-base distributed systems. The application framework is divided into two parts: an organization framework to manage and construct an organization composed of roles necessary in the application, and a player framework to provide running environment for players. In this paper, we focus on the organization framework which supports the creation and management of organizations, directory service for players and allocation of players to roles, and message brokering between roles and players. The proposed framework makes developers to be able to develop highly adaptive distributed systems in the ubiquitous environment.

  • Recently, IoT technology has been applied in various field. In particular, the technology focuses on analysing large amount of data that has been gathered from the environmental sensors, to provide valuable information. This technique has been actively researched in the agro-industrial sector. Many researches are underway in the monitoring and control for growth crop environment in agro-industrial. Normally, the average weather data is provided by the manual agro-control method but the value may differ due to the different region's weather and environment that may cause problem in the disease and insect-pest prevention. In order to develop a suitable integrated system for fruit tree, all the necessary information is obtained from the Jeollanam-do province, which has the high production rate in the Korea. In this paper, we propose an integrated support platform for the growing crops, to minimize the damage caused due to the weather disaster through image analysis, forecasting models, by using the micro-climate weather information collection and CCTV. The fruit tree damage caused by the weather disaster are controlled by utilizing various IoT technology by maintaining the growth environment, which helps in the disease and insect-pest prevention and also helps farmers to improve the expected production.

Pipelined collective I/O의 전체 과정은 I/O 노드 충돌을 동적으로 줄이기 위해 파이프라인된다. Abstract In this paper we present the design, implementation and evaluation of a runtime system based on collective I/O techniques for irregular applications. We present two designs, namely, "Collective I/O" and "Pipelined Collective I/O". In the first scheme, all processors participate in the I/O simultaneously, making scheduling of I/O requests simpler but creating a possibility of contention at the I/O nodes. In the second approach, processors are grouped into several groups, so that only one group performs I/O simultaneously, while the next group performs communication to rearrange data, and this entire process is pipelined to reduce I/O node contention dynamically. In other words, the design provides support for dynamic contention management. Then we present a software caching method using collective I/O to reduce I/O cost by reusing data already present in the memory of other nodes. Finally, chunking and on-line compression mechanisms are included in both models. We demonstrate that we can obtain significantly high-performance for I/O above what has been possible so far. The performance results are presented on an Intel Paragon and on the ASCI/Red teraflops machine. Application level I/O bandwidth up to 55% of the peak is observed.he peak is observed.

  • This study is an effort to develop computer simulation model that produce precipitation patterns from stochastic model. A stochastic model is formulated for the process of daily precipitation with considering the sequences of wet and dry days and the precipitation amounts on wet days. This study consists of 2 papers and the process of precipitation occurrence is modelled by an alternate renewal process (ARP) in paper (I). In the ARP model for the precipitation occurrence, four discrete distributions, used to fit the wet and dry spells, were as follows; truncated binomial distribution (TBD), truncated Poisson distribution (TPD), truncated negative binomial distribution (TNBD), logarithmic series distribution (LSD). In companion paper (II) the process of occurrence is developed by Markov chain. The amounts of precipitation, given that precipitation has occurred, are described by a Gamma. Pearson Type-III, Extremal Type-III, and 3 parameter Weibull distribution. Daily precipitation series model consists of two models, A-Wand A-G model, by combining the process of precipitation occurrence and a continuous probability distribution on the precipitation of wet days. To evaluate the performance of the simulation model, output from the model was compared with historical data of 7 stations in the Nakdong and Seomjin river basin. The results of paper (1) show that it is possible to design a model for the synthetic generation of IX)int precipitation patterns.

  • To predict the dynamics behavior, running stability, etc. of a railway vehicle and to understand its physical characteristics, analytical methods are used for the testing and manufacturing of a scale model along with numerical simulations in developed countries (England, France, Japan, etc.). The test of the dynamics characteristics of full-scale models is problematic in that it is expensive and time-consuming because an entire large-scale test plant needs to be constructed, difficulties are involved in the test configuration, etc. To overcome these problems, an analytical study involving dynamics tests and computer simulations using a scaled bogie model that applies the laws of similarity was carried out. In this study, we performed stability analysis on a 1/5 small scaled bogie for parameters such as the running speed and carbody weight by using an analysis model. Furthermore, we verified the reliability by using a small-scaled derailment simulator and examined the dynamic characteristic of the 1/5 small scaled bogie.

  • The Highway Capacity Manual(HCM) suggests estimating the average green time for the performance evaluation of the traffic actuated operation and Provides the average green time estimation model. However, the model provides with much room for improvements. This document proposes a new analytical model that overcomes the shortage of the HCM model. The average green times estimated by the HCM model and the proposed model were compared. A computer program using the proposed model was coded for the study, while the ACT348 program was used for the implementation of the HCM model Through the comparison study based on the 1,196 hypothetical simulation data surrogating field data, it was found that the average green times estimated by the proposed model yields much nicer one-to-one linear relationship to the simulation results than the ones from the HCM model in both exclusive-only and shared-permitted cases. The R2 values of the proposed and the HCM models with those cases are 0.90 and 0.56, and 0.86 and 0.57, respectively.

  • This study was conducted to judge requalification of cylinders by assessing composite flaws such as scratches, cuts, and gouges damaging on the composite of Type III cylinders for compressed natural gas vehicles. As a result of the flaw tolerance test, all specimens have satisfied with minimum requirement cycles according to damage levels based on ISO 19078 and cyclic performance for pressure showed beyond twenty thousands in damage level 1 and 2, and did eighteen thousands to twenty-one thousands in damage level 3. Eight of twelve specimens failed the test due to composite flaws and the rest of the cylinders failed regardless of flaws. The results of Finite Element Method followed by the computer simulation indicated that the stress of 79.5 MPa calculated on the flaw model of $1.25\;mm{\times}200\;mm$ and the stress of 66.6 MPa on the non-flaw model when the service pressure applied to inside of cylinder. The difference between the models is about 19.37%. We concluded that this difference influences fatigue life and this flaw model is a critical value affecting cyclic performance of cylinders.

  • Biomolecular computing is a new computing paradigm that uses biomolecules such as DNA for information representation and processing. The huge number of molecules in a small volume and the innate massive parallelism inspired a novel computation method, and various computation models and molecular algorithms were developed for problem solving. In the meantime, the use of biomolecules for information processing supports the possibility of DNA computing as an application for biological problems. It has the potential as an analysis tool for biochemical information such as gene expression patterns. In this context, a DNA computing-based model of a biomolecular perceptron has been proposed and the result of its experimental implementation was presented previously. The weight encoding and weighted sum operation, which are the main components of a biomolecular perceptron, are based on the competitive hybridization reactions between the input molecules and weight-encoding probe molecules. However, thermodynamic symmetry in the competitive hybridizations is assumed, so there can be some error in the weight representation depending on the probe species in use. Here we suggest a generalized model of hybridization reactions considering the asymmetric thermodynamics in competitive hybridizations and present a weight encoding method for the reliable implementation of a biomolecular perceptron based on this model. We compare the accuracy of our weight encoding method with that of the previous one via computer simulations and present the condition of probe composition to satisfy the error limit.

  • Atmospheric transport pathway of an air mass is an important constraint controlling the chemical properties of the air mass observed at a designated location. Such information could be utilized for understanding observed temporal variabilities in atmospheric concentrations of long-lived chemical compounds, of which sinks and/or sources are related particularly with natural and/or anthropogenic processes in the surface, and as well as for performing inversions to constrain the fluxes of such compounds. The Lagrangian particle dispersion model FLEXPART provides a useful tool for estimating detailed particle dispersion during atmospheric transport, a significant improvement over traditional "single-line" trajectory models that have been widely used. However, those without a modeling background seeking to create simple back-trajectory maps may find it challenging to optimize FLEXPART for their needs. In this study, we explain how to set up, operate, and optimize FLEXPART for back-trajectory analysis, and also provide automatization programs based on the open-source R language. Discussions include setting up an "AVAILABLE" file (directory of input meteorological fields stored on the computer), creating C-shell scripts for initiating FLEXPART runs and storing the output in directories designated by date, as wells as processing the FLEXPART output to create figures for a back-trajectory "footprint" (potential emission sensitivity within the boundary layer). Step by step instructions are explained for an example case of calculating back trajectories derived for Anmyeon-do, Korea for January 2011. One application is also demonstrated in interpreting observed variabilities in atmospheric $CO_2$ concentration at Anmyeon-do during this period. Back-trajectory modeling information introduced in this study should facilitate the creation and automation of most common back-trajectory calculation needs in atmospheric research.
