This paper presents a new concept for controlling of under actuated robot manipulators with avoiding obstacles using switching computed torque method (SCTM). One fundamental approach of this algorithm is to use the partly stable controllers (PSCs) in order to fulfill the ultimate control objective. Here, we use genetic algorithms (GA)in order to employ the optimum control action for a given time frame with the available set of elemental controllers, depending on which links/variables are controlled, i.e. the selection of optimum switching sequence of the control actions. The proposed approach models links of the robot using evolving ellipses and then introduces a penalty scheme for the objective function of GA when it detects collisions. An under actuated robot manipulator, which has three detrees-of-freedom is taken into consideration so as to illustrate the design procedure. Simulation results show the e.ectiveness of the proposed method.
In this paper, a learning control problem is formulated for cooperating multiple-robot manipulators with uncertain system parameters. The commonly held object is also assumed to be unknown and the multiple-robots themselfs experience uncertain operating conditions such as link parameters, viscous friction parameters, suctions, actuator bias, and etc. Under these conditions, the learning controllers designed for learning of uncertain parameters and robot control inputs for multiple-robot systems are shown to drive the multiple-robot manipulators to follow the desired Cartesian trajectory with the desired internal forces to the unknown object.

Biped locomotion can be simply modeled as a linear inverted pendulum mode. This model considers only the CG (center of gravity) of the entire system. But in real biped robot systems, the free-leg motion dynamics is not negligible. So if its dynamics is not considered in designing the reference CG motion, it is badly influence to the ZMP(zero moment point) position of the biped robot walking in the sagittal plane. Therefore, we modeled the biped locomotion similar to the linear inverted pendulum mode but considered the predetermined free-leg dynamics. To verify that the proposed biped locomotion is more stable than the linear inverted pendulum mode, we constructed a biped robot simulator and designed a serco controller to track both the reference motion of the free leg and the reference motion of CG of the biped robot using the computed torque control low. And through simulations, we verified that the proposed walking is better in stability than the one based on the linear inverted pendulum mode.
The computed-torque method (CTM) shows good trajectory tracking performance in controlling robot manipulator if there is no disturbance or modelling errors. But with the increase of a payload or the disturbance of a manipulator, the tracking errors become large. So there have been many researches to reduce the tracking error. In this paper, we propose a new control algorithm based on the CTM that decreases a tracking error by generating new reference trajectory to the controller. In this algorithm we used the concept of sliding mode theory and fuzzy system to reduce chattering in control input. For the numerical simulation, we used a 2-link robot manipulator. To simulate the disturbance due to a modelling uncertainty, we added errors to each elements of the inertia matrix and the nonlinear terms and assumed a payload to the end-effector. In this simulation, proposed method showed better trajectory tracking performance compared with the CTM.
This paper presents a robust adaptive control scheme based on the Lyapunov design for robot manipulators subjected to inertial parameter uncertainties and bounded torque disturbances. The scheme is a modified version of the adaptive computed torque method which adopts a dead zone into the adaptation mechanism so as to avoid parameter drifts by disturbances. It is shown via stability analysis and computer simulations that all the signals in the overall adaptive system are bounded and tracking errors lie within a prespecified bound.
This article deals with a minimum energy control law of S-CVT connected to a dc motor. The S-CVT can smoothly transit between the forward, neutral, and reverse states without any brakes or clutches, and its compact and simple design and its relatively simple control make it particularly effective for mechanical systems in which excessively large torques are not required. And such an S-CVT equipped power transmission has the advantage of being able to operate the power sources in their regions of maximum efficiency, thereby improving the energy efficiency of the transmission system. The S-CVT was intended to primarily for use in small power capacity transmissions, thus a dc motor was considered here as the power source. We first review the structure and operating principles of the S-CVT, including experimental results of its performance. And then we describe a minimum energy control law of S-CVT connected to a do motor. To do this, we describe the results of an analysis of the dynamics of an S-CVT equipped power transmission and the power efficiency of a DC motor. The minimum energy control design is carried out via B-spline parameterization. And we show numerical results obtained from simulations illustrate the validity of our minimum energy control design, benchmarked with a computed torque control algorithm for S-CVT.

Delta parallel robots are now widely used for high-speed applications. However, typical Delta robots, such as ABB Flexpicker suffer from rotating axis with passive prismatic joint subjected to critical speed and so requiring careful maintenance. In this paper, a novel 4-DOF high-speed parallel robot with four legs is presented, which consists of three legs with 90 degree arrangement for translational motions and one remaining leg with rack & pinion gears for rotational motion. The inverse kinematics, velocity, acceleration, statics, and inverse dynamics have been analyzed. From the workspace analysis and inverse dynamics simulation for 0.43 sec cycle time, the 4-axis parallel robot prototype with 12kg payload has been designed. In the future research, computed torque control methods will be developed for the prototype.

Dynamic chanracterisitcs and control of a submerged working robot manipulator have been investigated for articulated type robot manipulator with three revoluted joints. A dynamic equation of the manipulator has been derived. The dynamic equation includes not only mass matrix, centrifugal and Coriolis terms and gravity terms but also added mass, buoyant force and drag force terms, which are important terms for underwater motion description. A series of simulations using computed torque method have been performed for the cases of straight and circular trajectory motion controls. The results of this study show that the dynamic characteristics of the submerged working robot manipulator are very different from that of the manipulator which works in air. The influences of added mass, buoyant force and drag force terms to the total required torques have been discussed as distribution ratios to the total required torques.

A high-performance robotic controller is proposed for uncertain robots by using an adaptive control method, which guarantees the boundedness of uncertain systems with partially known uncertainty bounds. In order to improve the tracking performance of the robotic controller, a linear compensator is introduced to the robotic system which has been linearized via a nonlinear feedback. The above adaptive method is then utilized to guarantee the ultimate boundedness of the tracking errors. The performance of the robotic controller is compared with that of the computed torque method by computer simulations under uncertain environments. The simulation results show that the proposed method gives better performance than the computed torque method. Since the proposed method has a small number of parameters to be estimated, the controller is simpler to implement than other existing adaptive controller for robots. Hence, the proposed robotic control method is expected to be well suited for high-performance operation of robots under uncertain environment.
This paper presents the characteristics of PM eddy current loss and harmonic iron loss for PM step-skewed Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) with concentrated windings and multi-layered PM under the running condition of maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) and flux-weakening control. In particular, PM eddy current loss and harmonic iron loss in IPMSM have been numerically computed with three-dimensional Finite Element Analysis (3D FEA), whereby IPMSM with concentrated windings and multi-layered PM has been designed to identify the optimized skew angle contributing to the reduced PM eddy current loss and torque ripples, while maintaining the required average torque. Furthermore, numerical investigation on PM eddy current loss and iron loss at MTPA and flux-weakening control has been carried-out in terms of PM step-skew.
