The high-temperature properties of mild steels were studied by comparing the test results of Kwon and the yield strength, tangent modulus predicted by the design provisions of ASCE and Eurocode(EC3). The column strengths for steel members at high temperatures were determined by the elastic and inelastic buckling strengths according to elevated temperatures. The material properties at high temperatures should be used in the strength evaluations of high temperature members. The buckling strengths obtained from the AISC, EC3 and approximate formula proposed by Takagi et al. were compared with ones calculated by the material nonlinear analysis using the EC3 material model. The newly simplified formulas for yield stress, tangent modulus, proportional limit and buckling strength which were proposed through a comparative study of the material properties and buckling strengths. The buckling strengths of proposed formulas were approximately equivalent to ones obtained from the formulas of Takagi et al. within 4%. They were corresponded to the lower bound values among the buckling strengths calculated by the design formulas and inelastic buckling analysis.
This paper presents experimental and analytical studies to understand the behavior of crumb rubber concrete (CRC)-filled fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) and steel tube double skin column (DSC) and beam (DSB) members under cyclic loading. The main test variable was the percentage of rubber which ranged from 0 to 40%. For column members, different heights corresponding to different aspect ratios were examined to understand the to understand the effect of DSCs' slenderness on the cyclic response of the columns. the. The behavior of the specimens in terms of failure mode, strain development, energy dissipation, load-displacement response were presented and compared. The ability of the current provisions of the Australian codes to predict the capacity of such double skin members was also evaluated based on the test results. This study concluded that the reduction in the concrete strength was more severe at the material level compared to structural level. Also, as the load changed from axial compression in columns to pure moment in beams the negative effect of rubber percentage on the strength became less significant.
The need for carbon neutrality in the world strives the construction industry to reduce the use of construction materials. Aiming to this, recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) could be used as it reduces the carbon dioxide emissions. Currently, RAC is mainly used in non-structural members of civil constructions, seldom used in structural members. To broaden its structural use, a new type of composite column, i.e., the square and rectangular RAC filled FRP tubes (CFFTs), has been concerned in this study. The investigation on their axial compressive behavior through physical test and numerical analysis demonstrated that the load-carrying capacity of such column is reduced with the increase of replacement ratio of recycled aggregate and aspect ratio of section but can be improved by the increase of FRP confining stiffness and corner radius, said capacity can be equivalent to their steel reinforced concrete counterparts. At failure, the hoop strain at corner of tube is unexpectedly smaller than that at flat side of the tube although the FRP tube ruptured at its corner first, revealing a premature failure. Besides, a design-oriented stress-strain model of concrete and an analysis-oriented finite element model are proposed to predict the load-strain response of square and rectangular CFFT columns, which facilitates the engineering use of RAC in load-carrying structural members.

The usage of fiber-reinforced polymer materials increases in the construction sector due to their advantages in terms of high mechanical strength, lightness, corrosion resistance, low density and high strength/density ratio, low maintenance and painting needs, and high workability. In this study, it is aimed to improve mechanical properties of GFRP box profiles, produced by pultrusion method, by filling the polymer concrete into them. Within the scope of study, hybrid use of polymer concrete produced with GFRP box profiles was investigated. Hybrid pressure and bending specimens were produced by filling polymer concrete (polyester resin manufactured with natural sand and stone chips) into GFRP box profiles having different cross-sections and dimensions. Behavior of the produced hybrid members was investigated under bending and compression tests. Hollow GFRPxx profiles, polymer-filled hybrid members, and nominative polymeric concrete specimens were tested as well. The behavior of the specimens under pressure and bending tests, and their load bearing capacities, deformations and changes in toughness were observed. According to the test results; It was deduced that hybrid design has many advantages over its component materials as well as superior physical and mechanical properties.
The use of high-strength steels in construction of highrise and mega building structures can bring about many technological advantages from fabrication to erection. However, key design criteria such as local and lateral stability in current steel design specifications were developed based on tests of ordinary steels which have stress-strain characteristics very different from that of high strength steels. A series of tests on 800 MPa tensile strength steel (HSA800) members are summarized in this paper which were conducted to investigate the appropriateness of extrapolating current ordinary-steel based design criteria to high strength steels. 800 MPa I-shape beam specimens designed according to flange local buckling (FLB) criteria of the AISC Specification developed a sufficient strength for elastic design and a marginal rotation capacity for plastic design. It is shown that, without introducing distinct and significant yield plateau to the stress-strain property of high-strength steel, it is inherently difficult to achieve a high rotation capacity even if all the current stability limits are met. 800 MPa I-shape beam specimens with both low and high warping rigidity exhibited sufficient lateral torsional buckling (LTB) strength. HSA800 short-column specimens with various edge restraint exhibited sufficient local buckling strength under uniform compression and generally outperformed ordinary steel specimens. The experimental P-M strength was much higher than the AISC nominal P-M strength. The measured residual stresses indicated that the impact of residual stress on inelastic buckling of high-strength steel is less. Cyclic seismic test results showed that HSA800 members have the potential to be used as non-ductile members or members with limited ductility demand in seismic load resisting systems. Finally, recent applications of 800 MPa high strength steel to highrise and mega building structures in Korea are briefly presented.

Although structural concrete is well known for its good economic efficiency, it has limits of structural performance due to the low tensile strength, for which new structural members utilizing various concrete composite materials have been developed. Steel Fiber-Reinforced Concrete(SFRC) has great tensile strength, which is the one of the excellent composite material to complement the weakness of concrete, and it is also considered as a good alternative to prevent the explosive failure of high strength concrete under fire. Also, prestressed concrete members are of great advantages to long span structures and have greater shear strength compared to conventional reinforced concrete members. In this research, thus, a total of 22 direct shear test specimens were fabricated and tested to understand the shear behavior of Steel Fiber-Reinforced Prestressed Concrete(SFR-PSC) members, in which SFRC members combined with prestressing method. Based on the test results, the constitutive equations of shear behavior at crack interfaces were proposed, which provided good estimation on the shear behavior of the SFR-PSC direct shear test specimens.
This study investigated the out-of-plane elastic buckling load and effective length factor of X-bracing system. The members of X-bracing system which are studied in this paper are rigidly attached to the structure at their end connections, and are pinned or rigidly connected at their point of intersection. The effective length factors are derived for the general case where the tension and compression brace have different material and geometrical properties.

An experimental study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of transverse reinforcement in reinforced concrete tied columns subjected to monotonically increasing axial compression. Eighteen large-scale columns(260$\times$260$\times$120mm) were fabricated to simulate similarly an actual structural members size. Effects of main variables such as the concrete compressive strength, the tie configuration, the transverse reinforcement ratio, the tie spacing, and the spatting of the concrete cover were studied in this research program.
The main purpose of this study is to establish the reliable method for evaluating fire damage of reinforced concrete building, by using the rational procedure, and to develope the rehabilitation methods of fire damaged concrete structures. Especially, this proposed evaluation method is applied to the fire damaged concrete buildings of domestic, and the rehabilitation methods on the basis of these applied results are proposed and those example are shown. The proposed rational evaluation method for fire damaged concrete building proceeds is estimating the reduction of the mechanical properties of concrete of fire damaged structural members in comparison with the experimental results which are obtained from the compression tests of heated concrete specimens under various temperatures.

In this paper, we present a part of results to develop new type hybrid FRP-concrete composite pile (i.e., concrete filled fiber reinforced plastic circular tubes, hybrid CFFT, HCFFT). The purpose of this paper is to evaluate compressive loading capacity through compressive strength test. Before compressive strength test of HCFFT, we investigated mechanical properties of pultruded fiber reinforced plastic (PFRP) and filament winding fiber reinforced plastic (FFRP). For estimating the compressive strength of HCFFT, uni-axial compression strength tests of HCFFT compression members were conducted. The test variables are compressive strengths of concrete and thickness of FFRP. In addition, uni-axial compression strength tests of concrete filled fiber reinforced plastic circular tube (CFFT) except PFRP members were conducted. The test variable in the test is thickness of FFRP. From the test result, the compressive strength of the HCFFT in larger than compressive strength of CFFT as much as 47%. It can be observed that the uni-axial compressive strength of the HCFFT increased if the concrete strength and the thickness of exterior filament winding FRP tube increased. In addition, the finite element analysis result is compared with the experimental result. The difference between the experimental and FEM results is in the range of 0.14% to 17.95%.
