Mechanical properties of potato and sweet potato were measured under impact and compression loading. The test apparatus consisted of disgital storage oscilloscope and simple mechanisms which can apply compression and impact forces to potatoes and sweet potatoes. The mechanical properties could be measured while the tissues were ruptured in a very short period time less than 10 ms by impact loading. Rupture force, energy, and deformation were measured as mechanical properties of potatoes and sweet potatoes under impact and compression loading. Rupture forces under impact and compression loading were in the range of 84.1 to 93.7N and 128.9 to 132.2N for external tissues and 60.1 to 64.8N and 158.9 to 171.1N for internal tissues of potato and sweet potato, respectively. Compression speeds and drop heights for each test were in the range of 1.25 to 62.5mm/min and 8 to 24cm.
A new type of precast steel reinforced concrete (PSRC) column was put forward in this paper. In order to study the static performance of PSRC column and hollow precast steel reinforced concrete (HPSRC) column subjected to combined compression and shear loading, a parametric test was carried out and effects of axial compression ratio, concrete strength and shear ratio on the mechanical behavior of composite PSRC column and HPSRC column were explored. In addition, the cracks development, load-span displacement relationship, strain distribution and shear bearing strength of column specimens were emphatically focused. Test results implied that shear failure of all specimens occurred during the test, and higher strength of cast-in-place concrete, smaller shear ratio and larger axial compression ratio could lead to greater shear resistance, but when the axial compression ratio was larger than 0.36, the shear capacity began to decrease gradually. Furthermore, truss-arch model for determining the shear strength of PSRC column and HPSRC column was proposed and the calculated results obtained from proposed method were verified to be valid.
The compression strength of corrugated fiberboard container for packaging the agricultural products rapidly decreases because of various environmental conditions during distribution of unitized products. Among various environmental conditions, the main factors affecting the compression strength of corrugated fiberboard are absorption of moisture, long-term accumulative load, and fatigue caused by shock and vibration. An estimated rate of damage for fruit during distribution is about from 30 to 40 percent owing to the shock and vibration. This study was carried out to characterize the durability of corrugated fiberboard container for packaging the fruit and vegetables under simulated transportation environment. The vibration test system was constructed to simulate the land transportation using truck. After the package with corrugated fiberboard container was vibrated by vibration test system at various experimental conditions, the compression test for the package was performed. The compression strength of corrugated fiberboard container decreased with loading weight and vibrating time. The multiple nonlinear regression equation for predicting the decreasing rate of compression strength of corrugated fiberboard containers were developed using four independent variables such as input acceleration level, input frequency, loading weight and vibrating time. The influence of loading weight on the decreasing rate of corrugated fiberboard container was larger than other variables.

A dynamic fatigue characteristic of dental implant system has been evaluated with applying single axial compressive shear loading based on the ISO 14801 standard. For the advanced dynamic fatigue test, multi-directional force and motion needed to be accompanied for more information of mechanical properties as based on mastication in oral environment. In this study, we have prepared loading and motion protocol for the multi-directional fatigue test of dental implant system with single (Apical/Occlusal; AO), and additional mastication motion (Lingual/Facial; LF, Mesial/Distal; MD). As following the prepared protocol (with modification of ISO 14801), fatigue test was conducted to verify the worst case results for the development of highly stabilized dental implant system. Mechanical testing was performed using an universal testing machine (MTS Bionix 858, MN, USA) for static compression and single directional loading fatigue, while the multi-directional loading was performed with joint simulator (ADL-Force 5, MA, USA) under load control. Basically, all mechanical test was performed according to the ISO 14801:2016 standard. Static compression test was performed to identify the maximum fracture force with loading speed of 1.0 mm/min. A dynamic fatigue test was performed with 40 % value of maximum fracture force and 5 Hz loading frequency. A single directional fatigue test was performed with only apical/occlusal (AO) force application, while multi directional fatigue tests were applied $2^{\circ}$ of facial/lingual (FL) or mesial/distal (MD) movement. Fatigue failure cycles were entirely different between applying single-directional loading and multi-directional loading. As a comparison of these loading factor, the failure cycle was around 5 times lower than single-directional loading while applied multi-directional loading. Also, the displacement change with accumulated multi-directional fatigue cycles was higher than that of single directional cycles.

Prediction of soil behavior should be interpreted based on the level of axial strain in the actual ground. Recently numerical methods have been carried out focus on the state of soil failure. However considered the deformation of soil the prior to failure, mostly the small strain occurring in the elastic range is considered. As a result of calculating the deformation modulus to 50% of the maximum unconfined compression strength, Deformation modulus (E50) showed a tendency to increase according to the degree of compaction by region. The Poisson's ratio during loading-unloading was 0.63, which was higher than the literature value of 0.5. For the unconfined compression test under cyclic loading for the measurement of permanent strain, the maximum compression strength was divided into four step and the test was performed by load step. Changes in permanent strain and deformation modulus were checked by the loading-unloading test for each stage. At 90% compaction, the permanent deformation of the SM sample was 0.21 mm, 0.37 mm, 0.6 mm, and 1.35 mm. The SC samples were 0.1 mm, 0.17 mm, 0.42 mm, and 1.66 mm, and the ML samples were 0.48 mm, 0.95 mm, 1.30 mm, and 1.68 mm.
This study sets it's face to define effects of the various loading periods in normal consolidation area on clay's compression and long-term consolidation characteristics through a laboratory test using homogeneous remolded clay. Moreover, by carrying out a long-term consolidation test which diversifies initial consolidation applicable to effective overburden loading in the various loading period. This study intended to suggest the method predicting the final settlement on the basis of loading periods by comparing and analyzing compression curve's characteristics according to loading weight of each stage and increase in loading period when carrying out the standard consolidation test. From the test results, the study shows that as of the soft clay's compression characteristics on the basis of various loading periods, preconsolidation load has a tendency to be decreased slightly as the loading period is getting more and more longer at each step after initial consolidation load puts on the remolded clay which is caused by secondary consolidation's increase in the latter part of each phase. And those effects have an weaker influence on compression index in normal consolidation area at the same time as secondary consolidation brought out quasi-overconsolidation and stabilization of clay's structure, have an influence re-compression index is increased in overconsolidation area on the other hand.
In this paper, a compression to tensile load converter device was developed to determine the anisotropic tensile strength of concrete. The samples were made from a mixture of water, fine sand and cement, respectively. Concrete samples with a hole at its center was prepared and subjected to tensile loading using the compression to tensile load converter device. A hydraulic load cell applied compressive loading to converter device with a constant pressure of 0.02 MPa per second. Compressive loading was converted to tensile stress on the sample because of the overall test design. The samples have three different configurations related to loading axis; 0, $45^{\circ}$, $-45^{\circ}$. A series of finite element analysis were done to analyze the effect of hole diameter on stress concentration of the hole side along its horizontal axis to provide a suitable criterion for determining the real tensile strength of concrete. Concurrent with indirect tensile test, Brazilian test and three point loading test were also performed to compare the results from the three methods. Results obtained by this device were quite encouraging and show that the tensile strengths of concrete were similar in different directions because of the homogeneity of bonding between the concrete materials. Also, the indirect tensile strength was clearly lower than the Brazilian test strength and three point loading test.
Damage characteristics of granite, marble and sandstone whose properties were different were investigated by uniaxial compression test and cyclic loading-unloading test. Strength, elastic constants and damage threshold stresses were measured by uniaxial compression test and were compared with those measured by cyclic loading-unloading test. Average rock strengths measured by cyclic loading-unloading test were either lower than or similar with those measured by uniaxial compression test. Rocks with high strength and low porosity were more sensitive to fatigue than that with low strength and high porosity. Although permanent strains caused by cyclic loading-unloading were different according to rock types, they could be good indicators representing damage characteristics of rock. Damage threshold stress of granite and marble might be measured from stress-permanent strain curves. Acoustic emissions were measured during both tests and felicity ratios which represented damage characteristics of rocks were calculated. Felicity ratio of sandstone which was weak in strength and highly porous could not be calculated because of very few measurements of acoustic emissions. On the other hand, damage threshold could be predicted from felicity ratios of granite and marble which were brittle and low in porosity. The deformation behaviors and damage characteristics of rock mass could be investigated if additional tests for various rock types were performed.

Multi-axial compression tests have been frequently adopted for the evaluation of material properties of rock cores and rock fracture model tests. Special care has to be applied on the boundary condition between the specimen and loading platen to draw the precise test results of the multi-axial compression tests. With the use of dry steel platen, the stress rotation will occur, due to the frictional restraint from the boundary between the specimen and loading platen. The restraint will deviate the expected test results under the conditions of the given external pressures. Various methods have been applied to reduce the side restraint along the specimen/loading platen interface. The steel brush type loading platen is one example of the attempts. In this paper, a new type of loading platen is introduced to overcome the limitation caused by the use of the brush type loading platen, which requires some internal space for the installation of the brushes. The new type of loading platen, roller supported steel piston type loading platen. is constituted of shot steel pistons which have sufficient stiffness to deliver the external pressure and the shaft type roller installed at the rear of the pistons. The pistons are designed to follow the local deformation of the specimens. In this paper, structural details of the loading platen are presented and frictional and biaxial compression tests results are shown to verify the required functions of the loading platen. Furthermore, calibration process is followed by a comparison between the test results and numerical analyses.

Two different strength types of plain concrete plate specimens (200$\times$200$\times$60mm) were tested under different biaxial load combinations. The specimens were subjected to biaxial combinations covering the three regions of compression-compression, compression-tension, and tension-tension. The loading platens with Teflon pads were used to reduce a confining effect in boundary surface between the concrete specimen and the solid platen. The principal deformations in the specimens were recorded, and the failure modes along with each stress ratio were examined. Based on the strength data, the failure envelops were developed for each type of plain concrete. The biaxial stress-strain responses of concrete plate specimens for three biaxial loading regions were also plotted. The test data indicated that the strength of concrete under biaxial compression ($f_2 / f_1$$_1$=-1/-1) is about 17 percent larger than under uniaxial compression.
