A methodology for the simulation of compressible high Reynolds number flow over rigid and moving bodies on a structured Cartesian grid is described in this paper. The approach is based on a modified version of the Brinkman Penalization method. To avoid oscillations in the vicinity of the body and to simulate shcok-containing flows, a Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory scheme is used to discretize the spatial flux derivatives. For high Reynolds number viscous flow, two turbulence models of the two-equation Menter's SST URANS model and a two-equation Detached Eddy Simulation are implemented. Some simple flow examples are given to assess the accuracy of the technique. Finally, a moving grid capability is demonstrated.

Methods for the solution of linear stability for compressible boundary layers are developed. Both the global and local methods for stability analysis are used. Both methods are use in solution of Coutte shear flow and the results are analysis and compare. Some well-known conclusions of Coutte flow are proved by these methods again.
The purpose of this study is to develop a new Meshless Method to solve 2-D compressible flow problems numerically. This paper includes a revised Least Square method that improves robustness compared with its original version by removing excessive numerical oscillation which occurs when points are randomly distributed. Numerical analyses of hypersonic flow over a blunt body were carried out using the method, then robustness, accuracy and convergence of their results were compared with those obtained from the original method.
A study has been made of the condition to maintaining Taylor-Proudman column flows in a compressible rotating fluid, which is driven by small mechanical and/or thermal perturbations imposing on the container wall in the basic state of isothermal rigid body rotation. The Rossby and system Ekman numbers are assumed to be very small. The Taylor-Proudman column flow can be produced when energy parameter, e, becomes constant on the whole flow region. Energy balance concept, related to energy parameter, and its physical interpretation are given with comprehensive discussions.
This paper presents the computational method for analyzing the compressible flow fields in a high voltage gas circuit breaker. There are many difficult problems in analyzing the gas flow in GCB due to complex geometry, moving boundary, shock wave and so on. In particular, the distortion problem of the grid due to the movement of moving parts can be worked out by the fixed grid technique. Numerical simulations are based on a fully implicit finite volume method of the compressible Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations to obtain the pressure, density, and velocity through the entire interruption process. The presented method is applied to the real circuit breaker model and the pressure in front of the piston is good agreement with the experimental one.
To investigate the flow inside the centrifugal impeller, computer program which can solve Three-dimensional compressible turbulent flow has been developed. The Navier-Stokes equations were chosen as the governing equation for viscous flow while Euler equations for inviscid case. Time marching method was incorporated with the Flux Difference Splitting method suggested by Roe to capture the steep gradients such as a shock. For high order of accuracy, MUSCL approach was adopted while differentiable limiter to ensure TVD property. For turbulence closure, Baldwin- Lomax model was applied due to its simplicity. To demonstrate the capabilities of present program, several validation problems have been solved and compared with experiments and other available data. From the above calculations generally good agreements were obtained. Finally, the developed code was applied to Eckardt's impeller and the performance prediction was carried out. Some important aspects on boundary condition for successful simulation were discussed and the remedy was also introduced.

Enhancement of numerical algorithms for low speed compressible flow will be considered. Contemporary time-marching algorithm has been widely accepted and applied as the method of choice for transonic, supersonic and hypersonic flows. In the low Mach number regime, time-marching algorithms do not fare as well. When the velocity is small, eigenvalues of the system of compressible equations differ widely so that the system becomes very stiff and the convergence becomes very slow. This characteristic can lead to difficulties in computations of many practical engineering problems. In the present approach, the time-derivative preconditioning method will be used to control the eigenvalue stiffness and to extend computational capabilities over a wide range of flow conditions (from very low Mach number to supersonic flow). Computational capabilities of the above algorithm will be demonstrated through computation of a variety of practical engineering problems.
We conduct numerical simulations of the interaction of a deformable structure with two-phase compressible flow. The finite volume method (FVM) is used to simulate fluid phenomena including a shock wave, a gas bubble, and the deformation of free surface. The deformation of a floating structure is computed with the finite element method (FEM). The compressible two-phase volume of fluid (VOF) method is used for the generation and development of a cavitation bubble, and the immersed boundary method (IBM) is used to impose the effect of the structure on the fluid domain. The result of the simulation shows the generation of a shock wave, and the expansion of the bubble. Also, the deformation of the structure due to the hydrodynamic loading by the explosion is identified.
Large eddy simulation is used to investigate the compressible flow over a cavity with high aspect ratio. The sub-grid scale stresses are modeled using the dynamic model. The compressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved with the sixth order accurate compact finite difference scheme in the space and the 4th order Runge-Kutta scheme in the time. The buffer Bone techniques are used for non-reflecting boundary conditions. The results show the shear layer oscillation over the cavity. The votical disturbances, the roll-up of vorticity, and impingement and scattering of vorticity at the downstream cavity edge can be seen in the shear layer. Several peaks for the resonant frequencies are found in the spectra of the vertical velocity at the center-line. The most energetic Peak near the downstream edge is different from that at the center part of the cavity The pressure has its minimum value in the vortex core inside the cavity, and becomes very high at the downstream face of the cavity. The variation of the model coefficient predicted by the dynamic model is quite large between 0 and 0.3. The model coefficient increases in the stream-wise evolution of the shear layer and sharply decreases near the wall due to the wall effect.
