Analysis on the Formation of Li4SiO4 and Li2SiO3 through First Principle Calculations and Comparing with Experimental Data Related to Lithium Battery

  • The formation of Li-Si-O phases, $Li_4SiO_4$ and $Li_2SiO_3$ from the starting materials SiO and $Li_2O$ are analyzed using Vienna Ab-initio Simulation (VASP) package and the total energies of Li-Si-O compounds are evaluated using Projector Augmented Wave (PAW) method and correlated the structural characteristics of the binary system SiO-$Li_2O$ with experimental data from electrochemical method. Despite $Li_2SiO_3$ becomes stable phase by virtue of lowest formation energy calculated through VASP, the experimental method shows presence of $Li_4SiO_4$ as the only product formed when SiO and $Li_2O$ reacts during slow heating to reach $550^{\circ}C$ and found no evidence for the formation of $Li_2SiO_3$. Also, higher density of $Li_4SiO_4$(2.42 g $ml^{-1}$) compared to the compositional mixture $1SiO_2-2Li_2O$ (2.226 g $ml^{-1}$) and better cycle capacity observed through experiment proves that $Li_4SiO_4$ as the most stable anode supported by better cycleabilityfor lithium ion battery remains as paradox from the point of view of VASP calculations.

영주저반의 관입상과 화성과정 (Intrusive Phases and Igneous Pricesses in the Yeongju Batholith)

  • The Yeongju granitoid batholith is a plutonic complex of huge area (1180km2) intruding the metamorphic rocks of the Yeongnam massif. The batholith, which is divided into fivelithofacies, consists of three separate plutons. The oldest Buseok pluton comprises four lithofacies: hornblende biotite tonalite, porphyrotoc biotite granodiorite, equigranular biotite grandiorite and biotite granite. The middle Chunyang pluton has been called as Chunyang granite that ranges in compostion from granodiorite to granite. The youngest Jangsu pluton is intrusions that has lithofacies of two mica granite. The contact between Buseok pluton and the rest two plutons shows obvious intrusive relations, but relation between the Chunyang and the Jangsu pluton is far away, so gives no indication of relative ages. Changes in nextures and micristructures, as well as in the mineral contents, take place between rock types og the plutons. only the Buseok pluton shows faliations of two type: magmatic foliation and regional mylonal foliation. K-Ar age deteminations fall into 171.7$\pm$3.2~162.3$\pm$3.1 Ma in the Buseok pluton, 153.9$\pm$2.9 Ma in the Chunyang pluton and 145.3$\pm$2.7 Ma in the jangsu Pluton. The batholith presents three separate intrusive phases which range in composition from tonalite to granite to granite. Each intrusive phase apperars to have been intruded in a pulse from an underlying, differentiating magma. The petrochemical data showthat three plutons are within the diagnostic range for continental arc orogenic tectonic setting, whereas Jangsu pluton approaches postorogenic setting. The data suggest that three plutons are calc-aclkalline series, and that temporal compositional variations change progerssively from tonalite through grandiorite to granite between the intrusive phases. so we consider that the magmas for all the phases were probably derived from a differentiation by fractional crystallization of a parental magma. The tonalite magma of the Buseok phase was tapped was tapped from a chamber deep in the crust, and then would have to rise at a rapid rate to its final level of emplacement. The tonalite magma in the chamber was gradually enolved through granodiorite magma into granite magma by fractional crystallization. The magmas of the younger phases were respectively tapped with temporal interval from a evolved magma of the chamber that rose into a shallower lever in the crust, and rose to their present level of emplacement.

  • 적재 폐기물의 적재 높이와 압력, 대표적 구성폐기물인 목재, 건전지, 플라스틱 폐기물의 건조, 표면의 탄화변화를 동적으로 인지해야 한다. 동적 상황인지 서비스는 유니버설미들웨어 기반 BCN 융합 통신 서비스인 Ambient SDK 모델을 기반으로 플랫폼을 구성하였다. 또한, 적재 폐기물에서 자연발화의 발효열 발화 분석 자료를 기반으로 화재 발생 원인을 규명하는 상황인지 시스템을 구성하였다. 유니버설미들웨어를 활용하여 화재 조기경보 유형별 시나리오 구성에 적용할 수 있는 실시간 동적 서비스 플랫폼을 구축하였다. 그리하여, 저온발화 화재 가능성 데이터 분석을 위한 IoT 상황인지 플랫폼을 동적으로 구성하여 제시하였다.

인슐레이터용 알루미나의 치밀화에 미치는 MgO의 함량과 소결 온도의 영향 (Effects of the Content of MgO Additive and Sintering Temperature on the Densification of Alumina Insulator)

  • The influence of MgO addition on the densification and microstructure of alumina (Al2O3) was studied. Compacted alumina specimens were manufactured using ball-milling and one-directional pressing followed by sintering at temperatures below 1700℃. Relative density, shrinkage, hardness, and microstructure were investigated using analytical tools such as FE-SEM, EDS, and XRD. When the MgO was added up to 5.0 wt% and sintered at 1500℃ and 1600℃, the relative density exhibited an average value of 97% or more at both temperatures. The maximum density of 99.2% was with the addition of 0.5 wt% MgO at 1500℃. Meanwhile, the specimens showed significantly lower density values when sintered at 1400℃ than at 1500℃ and 1600℃ owing to the relatively low sintering temperature. The hardness and shrinkage data also showed a similar trend in the change in density, implying that the addition of approximately 0.5 wt% MgO can promote the densification of Al2O3. Studying the microstructure confirmed the uniformity of the sintered alumina. These results can be used as basic compositional data for the development of MgO-containing alumina as high-dielectric insulators.

회귀 크리깅을 이용한 무인기 영상 기반의 갯벌 표층 퇴적상 분포도 작성 (Unmanned AerialVehicles Images Based Tidal Flat Surface Sedimentary Facies Mapping Using Regression Kriging)

  • 갯벌 퇴적물 성분의 분포 특성은 연안환경 분석, 환경영향평가에서 기초자료로 활용되기 때문에 신뢰성 높은 갯벌 표층 퇴적상 분포도를 제작하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 이 연구에서는 갯벌 퇴적상 분포도를 생성하기 위해 회귀 크리깅(regression kriging)의 적용성을 평가하였다. 이를 목적으로, 갯벌 표층 퇴적상 분류 과정에서 현장조사 자료의 수, 부가자료의 종류, 회귀 크리깅에 적용되는 회귀 모형의 영향과 다른 예측 기법(단변량 크리깅, 회귀 분석)과의 비교와 같은 다양한 요인의 영향을 조사하였다. 회귀 크리깅의 적용성 평가를 위해, 우리나라 태안군 안면도에 위치한 황도 갯벌을 대상으로 무인기 자료를 이용한 사례 연구를 수행하였다. 사례연구 결과, 신뢰성 높은 갯벌 표층 퇴적상 분포도를 제작하기 위해서는 적절한 수의 현장조사 자료 확보와 함께 지형 고도와 조류로 밀도도를 부가자료로 이용하는 것이 가장 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 초고해상도 무인기 자료를 이용하여 퇴적물 분포의 상세한 특성을 고려할 수 있는 회귀 크리깅이 다른 기법과 비교해서 예측 성능이 가장 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과는 갯벌 표층 퇴적상 분포도 제작에 가이드라인으로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Principal Discriminant Variate (PDV) Method for Classification of Multicollinear Data: Application to Diagnosis of Mastitic Cows Using Near-Infrared Spectra of Plasma Samples

  • In linear discriminant analysis there are two important properties concerning the effectiveness of discriminant function modeling. The first is the separability of the discriminant function for different classes. The separability reaches its optimum by maximizing the ratio of between-class to within-class variance. The second is the stability of the discriminant function against noises present in the measurement variables. One can optimize the stability by exploring the discriminant variates in a principal variation subspace, i. e., the directions that account for a majority of the total variation of the data. An unstable discriminant function will exhibit inflated variance in the prediction of future unclassified objects, exposed to a significantly increased risk of erroneous prediction. Therefore, an ideal discriminant function should not only separate different classes with a minimum misclassification rate for the training set, but also possess a good stability such that the prediction variance for unclassified objects can be as small as possible. In other words, an optimal classifier should find a balance between the separability and the stability. This is of special significance for multivariate spectroscopy-based classification where multicollinearity always leads to discriminant directions located in low-spread subspaces. A new regularized discriminant analysis technique, the principal discriminant variate (PDV) method, has been developed for handling effectively multicollinear data commonly encountered in multivariate spectroscopy-based classification. The motivation behind this method is to seek a sequence of discriminant directions that not only optimize the separability between different classes, but also account for a maximized variation present in the data. Three different formulations for the PDV methods are suggested, and an effective computing procedure is proposed for a PDV method. Near-infrared (NIR) spectra of blood plasma samples from mastitic and healthy cows have been used to evaluate the behavior of the PDV method in comparison with principal component analysis (PCA), discriminant partial least squares (DPLS), soft independent modeling of class analogies (SIMCA) and Fisher linear discriminant analysis (FLDA). Results obtained demonstrate that the PDV method exhibits improved stability in prediction without significant loss of separability. The NIR spectra of blood plasma samples from mastitic and healthy cows are clearly discriminated between by the PDV method. Moreover, the proposed method provides superior performance to PCA, DPLS, SIMCA and FLDA, indicating that PDV is a promising tool in discriminant analysis of spectra-characterized samples with only small compositional difference, thereby providing a useful means for spectroscopy-based clinic applications.

Results obtained demonstrate that the PDV method exhibits improved stability in prediction without significant loss of separability. KODOS 망간단괴의 SiO2-CaO-MnO 상관관계와 분포양상 (SiO2-CaO-MnO Correlations and Distributions of KODOS Manganese Nodules)

  • $SiO_2$ and CaO are added to decrease the smelting temperature in the reduction-smelting method for manganese nodule processing. These elements are components of the manganese nodules and might be very important controlling factors in the processing due to the locally variable content. The 707 chemical data of manganese nodules acquired from 1994 to 2001 in KODOS(Korea Deep Ocean Survey) area were used for the hierarchical cluster analysis. The chemical data were classified by the morphological types, and the averages of the chemical data for each station were classified by the facies groups and the localities. All data are plotted on the $SiO_2-CaO-MnO$ phase diagram at $1773^{\circ}K$ to compare with the best compositional area in the nodule smelting. Variations and distributions of $SiO_2$ and CaO in KODOS nodules were also reviewed. The mineral phases assigned by the cluster analysis are CFA(Carbonate Fluorapatite), Fe-oxide, Al-silicate, and Mn-oxide. MnO contents are generally higher than $SiO_2$ contents in most of the morphological types except for the Is- and It-type. The Dt- and Tt-type show wider range and the E-types show high anomaly in their CaO contents. The stations which belong to facies group A and B show generally higher MnO contents than $SiO_2$ contents, however, the stations of facies group C and D show wide range in their MnO and $SiO_2$ contents. It seems to be very important to control the $SiO_2$ contents in the processing because of the wide range in the northern area. The additions of approximately 10 wt.% CaO and 10 wt.% $SiO_2$ are recommended for the northern area, whereas, the additions of approximately 10 wt.% CaO and 20 wt.% $SiO_2$ are recommended for the southern area.

LIFECYCLE OF THE INTERSTELLAR DUST GRAINS IN OUR GALAXY VIEWED WITH AKARI/MIR ALL-SKY SURVEY

  • The interstellar dust grains are formed and supplied to interstellar space from asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars or supernova remnants, and become constituents of the star- and planet-formation processes that lead to the next generation of stars. Both a qualitative, and a compositional study of this cycle are essential to understanding the origin of the pre-solar grains, the missing sources of the interstellar material, and the chemical evolution of our Galaxy. The AKARI/MIR all-sky survey was performed with two mid-infrared photometric bands centered at 9 and $18{\mu}m$. These data have advantages in detecting carbonaceous and silicate circumstellar dust of AGB stars, and the interstellar polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons separately from large grains of amorphous silicate. By using the AKARI/MIR All-Sky point source catalogue, we surveyed C-rich and O-rich AGB stars in our Galaxy, which are the dominant suppliers of carbonaceous and silicate grains, respectively. The C-rich stars are uniformly distributed across the Galactic disk, whereas O-rich stars are concentrated toward the Galactic center, following the metallicity gradient of the interstellar medium, and are presumably affected by the environment of their birth place. We will compare the distributions of the dust suppliers with the distributions of the interstellar grains themselves by using the AKARI/MIR All-Sky diffuse maps. To enable discussions on the faint diffuse interstellar radiation, we are developing an accurate AKARI/MIR All-Sky diffuse map by correcting artifacts such as the ionising radiation effects, scattered light from the moon, and stray light from bright sources.

A comparison of the characteristic properties between soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merrill) seeds with different seed coat colors

  • We profiled the health-promoting bioactive components in nine types of soybean seeds with different seed coat colors (yellow, green, brown, and black) and investigated the effects of different extraction solvents (methanol, ethanol, and water) on their antioxidant activities. The carotenoid and anthocyanin compositions varied greatly by seed color, and the phenolic acids, total phenol, and total flavonoid contents differed by genotype. The carotenoid content was relatively higher in soybean seeds with green and black seed coats than in those with a yellow seed coat while lutein was the most plentiful. The anthocyanin content was considerably higher in the soybean seed with the black seed coat. The results of the DPPH assay showed strong antioxidative activities in the methanol- and water-extracts compared to the ethanol-extract, irrespective of the seed coat colors. Moreover, the soybean seeds with the black seed coat exhibited the highest antioxidant activity among the samples, regardless of the extraction solvent used. Eighteen bioactive compounds were subjected to data-mining processes including principal component analysis and hierarchical clustering analysis. Multivariate analyses showed that brown and black seeds were distinct from the yellow and green seeds in terms of the levels of carotenoids and anthocyanins, respectively. These results help our understanding of the compositional differences in the bioactive components among soybean seeds of various colors, providing valuable information for future breeding programs that seek to enhance the levels of compounds with health benefits.
