  • Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the fermentation characteristics under low mesophilic temperature of spent instant coffee ground (SICG) and to estimate the effect of fermented SICG (FSICG) as alternative feed ingredient on milk productivity of dairy cows. Methods: In the fermentation trial, fermentation of SICG was performed to investigate changes in characteristics using the microbial mixture (Lactobacillus plantarum, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Bacillus subtilis = 1:1:1) for 21 days at $20^{\circ}C$ under anaerobic conditions. Molasses was added at 5% of dry mass. In the animal trial, eighteen Holstein Friesian cows were used to evaluate the nutritive value of the FSICG which was fermented for 14 days under the same condition as the fermentation trial. Results: In the fermentation trial, the dry matter (DM) and organic matter content linearly decreased with fermentation time (p<0.001 and p = 0.008, respectively). The acid detergent insoluble nitrogen content linearly decreased with fermentation time (p = 0.037). The microorganism counts linearly increased for Lactobacillus plantarum, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Bacillus subtilis across fermentation time (p<0.001). In the animal trial, the DM intake of the control and FSICG treatment were not significantly different, as were milk yield, 4% fat corrected milk, fat-protein corrected milk, and feed to milk conversion content. Fat, protein, lactose, non-fat solids, milk urea nitrogen, and somatic cell counts were also not significantly different in milk composition between treatments. Conclusion: FSICG should be considered a sufficient substitute for cottonseed as a feed component, and 5% DM of a dietary FSICG level was appropriate for dairy cow diets.

  • In this study, for the stability analysis of marine embankment, the slope stability analysis and possibility of lateral movement with the marine embankment in ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$harbor were carried out. In order to simulate the practical site condition, the expected maximum sea water level and maximum embankment height were assumed for these analyses. For the evaluation of soil properties, field test, laboratory test, and especially chemical composition analysis were performed for the this analysis. Based on these test results, the soil parameters were determined by applying ground improvement concept under columnar stabilized ground condition and also the effect of staged backfilling was considered under the dredged ground condition. For the optimal design, the stability analyses of embankment with changed height and unchanged height were performed under unimproved soil condition. The result showed that both cases were unstable not only with slope stability but also with lateral movement. Therefore, Deep Mortar Piling was applied for stability analysis and this result was safe. As the conclusion, the deep mortar piling method was suggested as reinforced foundation design for this site.

  • A study on the dry beneficiation of sericite occurring in the Daehyun Mine of the Republic of Korea region as performed by applying selective grinding and air classification techniques. Quartz and sericite occurred in the raw ore as major components. The results of liberation using a ball mill and an impact mill showed that the contents of $R_2O$ were increased while $SiO_2$ was decreased in proportion to decreasing particle size. According to the XRD, XRF analysis and the EDS of SEM analysis, the ball mill gave a better grade product in $R_2O$ content than the impact mill when the particle size was the same. When the raw ore was ground by the impact mill with arotor speed 57.6 m/sec and then followed by 15,000rpm classification using an air classifier, the chemical composition of the over flowed product was 49.65wt% $SiO_2$, 32.15wt% $Al_2O_3$, 0.13wt% $Fe_2O_3$, 10.37wt% $K_2O$, and 0.14wt% $Na_2O$. This result indicates that the $R_2O$ contents were increased by 49.5% compared to that of the raw ore. From these results described above, it is suggested that hard mineral such as Quartz little ground by selective grinding using impact mill whereas soft mineral such as sericite easily ground to small size. As a result of that hard minerals can be easily removed from the finely ground sericite by air classification and the $R_2O$ grade of thus obtained concentrate was improved to higher than 10wt% which can be used for ceramics raw materials.

  • In general, the foundation refers to a group pile with several single piles connected by an upper structure. However, when a load is applied to pile groups, the range of stress applied to the ground is expanded and overlapped compared with the single pile, so the overall bearing capacity may decrease. This reduction ratio of bearing capacity is referred to as the efficiency of pile groups. Therefore, in this study, the soil composition, the arrangement and spacing of group piles, and the contact characteristics between the ground and piles were set as analysis variables, and the group pile efficiency and individual pile behavior were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the efficiency of pile groups tends to converge or decrease when the friction coefficients are increased with ground type. Through this, the optimal efficiency of pile groups can be derived. In addition, through the analysis of individual piles, the load ratio of each pile was analyzed when an upper load was applied. In the case of piles located inside group piles, the load was relatively low, and this is considered to have an influence on the internal ground.

  • To examine the potentiality of grassland dominated with turf-type grasses, which are mainly used for the establishment of green spaces, forage production and its utilization as forage resources, dry matter yield and forage quality of three different turf-type mixtures were estimated throughout three consecutive experimental years. According to the experiment, the mean of dry matter(DM) yield, chemical composition, DM digestibility, crude protein dry matter(CPDM) and digestible dry matter(DDM) yield was not significantly different among species(p > 0.05) over three experimental years. Botanical composition of three dominant species(tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass) was 42, 35 and 28%, respectively, in three mixtures at the last cutting(6th) in 2001. The botanical composition of three dominated species such as tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass was maintained 84% of the total plants in all types of mixtures. Therefore, It is observed that the mixture types did not closely affect the botanical composition. But botanical composition of the other species such as redtop(8%) and creeping bentgrass(6${\sim}$7%) was low. Especially, that of red fescue was the least(1${\sim}$2%) of all mixed species. As mentioned above, any difference was not observed in DM yields, forage quality and botanical composition among mixture types. Therefore, any types of mixtures can be used as public green spaces like school ground areas or river-sides, and as forage resources additionally.

  • Around Tongyeong coasts which located in southern coast of Korea composed to the complex coastal line and scattered by small islands. It also has been distributed to a complicated bathymetric structure by several types of channels. This study carried to analyze the spatial characteristics of macrobenthic community and benthic environmental variance on sub-tidal area based on multivariate statistics tools. Sediment composition varied from muddy sand to mud, and along the channels, it composed to a heterogeneous bottoms mixed by shell fragment, cobbles and mud. Organic contents on the surface sediment varied 1.1-3.9%. Total of 272 species, $33,349\;ind./m^2$ of macrobenthos identified in all of sample area. Polychaetes also prevailed among the specimen. L. longifolia, P. pinnata dominated based on density. Considering on the biomass, echinoderm S. lacunosa, A. tricoides listed. Closer to the coastal area, the density and diversity were higher. Community structure based on cluster analysis was discriminated into three groups. Each group was also characterized by geographical state such as depth, sediment composition. In addition, when applied to the bathymetric data, the channel, which composed to the mixed sediment, made a role of limited factor which characterized to benthic community. Because the specimen around the channel have been affected on the diverse sediment mixture. Most of benthic studies in the southern coast of Korea focused to the condition of benthic organic pollution spatially, because along the coast, it also developed a aquaculture ground and industrial complex. But, as results, most of the area, it turn out the less polluted areas nevertheless similar environment situation. It supposed that benthic community affect to the bottom sediment composition by physical characteristics.

  • Monthly variation in species composition was determined using fish samples collected by a beach seine between October 2013 and September 2014 in the eelgrass bed in Aenggang Bay, Namhae, Gyeongsangnamdo. A total of 3,174 individuals of 35 species, amounting to 3,137 g were collected. The dominant species was Gymnogobius heptacanthus, followed by Pholis nebulosa, Rudarius ercodes, Favonigobius gymnauchen and Hypodytes rubripinnis. Almost all fish collected were small in size or juveniles. Seasonal variation of species composition showed that the dominant species, used the shallow area of the eelgrass bed as a nursery ground and moved to a deeper water as they grew. Saurida elongata, Inimicus japonicus, Sphyraena pinguis, and Arothron hispidus, were first reported in an eelgrass bed in the southern coastal water.

  • This paper described the strength variation characteristics to evaluate the applicability of a reactive material that can absorb organic pollutants as an underground barrier. The Strength was evaluated by unconfined compression test. The test results showed that the strength of the reactive material according to the absorption of each pollutant was in the order of water > TCE > TPH. However, the strength of the reactive material absorbing TPH was greater than that of the case absorbing TCE, when the composition ratio of polynorbornene was 12% or less. The strength of the reaction material in contact with water continued to decrease as the polynorbornene composition ratio decreased. The strength of the reaction material in contact with TCE and TPH increased as the polynorbornene composition ratio decreased from 30% to 21%, and then decreased. In other words, the optimal composition ratio of the reactive material should be applied considering the strength due to contact with pollutants according to the stress conditions occurring in the ground.
