  • Many researchers have studied component technologies with concept, methodology and implementation for partial business domain, however there are rarely researches for component classification to manage these systematically. In this paper, we suggest a component classification model, which can make component reusability higher and can derive higher productivity of software development. We take four focuses generalization, abstraction, technology and size. The generalization means which category a component belongs to. The abstraction means how specific a component encapsulates its inside. The technology means which platform for hardware environment a component can be plugged in. The size means the physical component volume.

  • Today\\`s wide variety of component-based development environments supports the component framework that can be used only for the specific type of components. And many researches have shown that it is necessary for the component-based development environment to support recursive component composition, various kinds of component composition patterns and the multi-tier component architecture for the real benefits of software component composition. In this paper we propose the component composition specification which can not only specify the interaction contracts between components but also supports recursive component composition, and we also propose the component composition model based on this component composition specification. The proposed component composition specification can express the contractual properties that existing component specification techniques cannot specify, and it can be also used to implement the component architectures with multi-tier concept and the tool for component composition through supporting the various kinds of component composition patterns.

  • CBD is a software development approach based on reusable component and supports easy modification and evolution of software. For the success of this approach, a component must be developed with high cohesion and low coupling. In this paper, we propose the two types of clustering analysis technique based on affinity between use-cases and classes and propose component identification method applying to this technique. We also propose component reference model and CBD methodology framework and perform a ease study to demonstrate how the affinity-based clustering technique is used in component identification method. Component identification method contains three tasks such as component extraction, component specification and component architecting. This method uses object-oriented concept for identifying component, which improves traceability from analysis to implementation and can automatically extract component. This method reflects the low coupling-high cohesion principle for good modularization about reusable component.

  • A component is a reusable and replaceable software module accessed through its interface. Component-based development is expected to shorten the development period, reduce maintenance costs, and improve program reusability and the interoperability of components. This paper proposes a new robot software component platform in order to support the entire process of robot software development. It consists of specifications of a component model, component authoring tool, component composer, and component execution engine. To show its feasibility, this paper presents the analysis results of the component's communication overhead, a comparison with other robotic software platforms, and applications in commercial robots.

  • A component based method out of load modeling is to aggregate component load model according to the composition rate of each component load at load bus based on the circuit theory. But the most of component loads respond complex nonlinear characteristics respect to voltage and frequency variation due to the control techniques and semiconductor elements applied to component load. It needs to verify this approach through actual experiment of the aggregation of component load even if it can be down. To identify this aggregation method well known, this paper is proposed the classifying method of component load characteristics for component loads to group by quantitative analysis. The component load characteristics were divided into several types by KSOM (kohonen self organizing map), which can classify multi-dimension vector, component load pattern, into two-dimension vector. Some ambiguous cases happened from KSOM were classified by the proposed closing degree.

  • Lately CBD methodologies like as CBD96, Catalysis, Fusion, and SCIPIO have been introduced. These methodologies has their own proprietary component reference model. Using proprietary reference model falls interoperability among methodologies. Furthermore it can cause confusion and difficulty for component developers, In this paper, we propose a integrated component meta-model for support consistency and interoperability among component designs. Also, we compare our proposed meta model to existing component reference model by using component's characteristics. We expect that it is easy to add new meta model elements and extends meta-model by using integrated component meta-model.

  • The component-based development methodology aims at the high state of abstraction and the reusability with components larger than classes. It is indispensible to measure the component so as to improve the quality of the component-based system and the individual component. And, the quality of the component should be improved through putting the results into the process of the development. So, it is necessary to study the component metric which can be applied in the stage of the component analysis and design. Hence, in this paper, we propose component cohesion, coupling, independence metrics reflecting the information extracted in the step of component analysis and design. The proposed component metric bases on the similarity information about behavior patterns of operations to offer the component's service. Also, we propose the redesigning process for the improvement of component design. That process uses the techniques of clustering and is for the thing that makes the component as the independent functional unit having the low complexity and easy maintenance. And, we examine that the component design model can be improved by the component metrics and the component redesigning process.

  • Component-based software engineering (CBSE) composes reusable components and develops applications with the components. CBSE is admitted to be a new paradigm that reduces the costs and times to develop software systems. The high quality of component designs can be assured if the consistency and correctness among the elements of a component are verified with formal specifications. Current formal languages for components include only some parts of contracts between interfaces, structural aspects and behavioral aspects of component, component-based system, component composition and variability. Therefore, it is not adequate to use current formal languages in all steps of a component design process. In this paper, we suggest a formal language to specify component designs Component-Z. Component-Z extends Object-Z, adds new notations to specify components. It can be possible to specify interfaces, the inner structure of a component, inner workflows, and workflows among interfaces with Component-Z. In addition, Component-Z provides the notations and semantics to specify variability with variation points, variants and required interfaces. The relation between interfaces and components is defined with mapping schemas. Parallel operator is used to specify component composition. It can be possible to describe deployed components with the specifications of component-based systems. Therefore, the formal specification language proposed in this paper can represent all elements to design components. In the case study, we specify an account management system in a bank so that we show that Component-Z can be used in all steps of component design.

  • Component Cost Analysis considers any given system driven by a white noise process as an interconnection of different components, and assigns a metric called "component cost" to each component. These component costs measure the contribution of each component to a predefined quadratic cost function. One possible use of component costs is for model reduction by deleting those components that have the smallest component cost. The theory of Component Cost Analysis is extended to include finite-bandwidth colored noises. The results also apply when actuators have dynamics of their own. When the dynamics of this input are added to the plant, which is to be reduced by CCA, the algorithm for model reduction process will be called Weighted Component Cost Analysis (WCCA). Closed-form analytical expressions of component costs for continuous time case, are also derived for a mechanical system described by its modal data. This is very useful to compute the modal costs of very high order systems beyond Lyapunov solvable dimension. A numerical example for NASA's MINIMAST system is presented.presented.
