Secondary Metabolites with Anti-complementary Activity from the Stem Barks of Juglans mandshurica Maxim

  • Juglans mandshurica is a fast growing hard species, which is a tree in family of Juglandaceae and has a wide distribution in China, Korea and eastern Russia. Plant materials from J. mandshurica have extensively been used in folk medicines to prevent or cure gastric, esophageal, lung and cardiac cancer. As one chain of our searching for anticomplementary agents from natural sources, two epimeric ellagitannins, [2,3-O-4,4',5,5',6,6',-hexahydroxydiphenoyl (HHDP))-(${\alpha},{\beta}$)-D-glucose] (I) and pedunculagin (II) were purified from 70% acetone extracts of the stem barks of J. mandshurica by Thin Layer Chromatography and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography approaches. The chemical structures of the isolated compounds were characterized by MS, NMR, and a careful comparation with published literatures. The epimeric ellagitannins I and II exhibited inhibitory properties against a classical pathway of complementary system with 50 % inhibitory concentrations ($IC_{50}$) values of 65.3 and $47.7{\mu}M$, respectively, comparing with riliroside ($IC_{50}=104{\mu}M$) and rosmarinic acid ($IC_{50}=182{\mu}M$), which were used as positive controls. Thus, the work indicated both the two secondary metabolites possess excellent inhibitory activity and might be developed as potential anticomplementary chemicals.

  • 본 연구는, 픽사의 에 나타난 부모와 자녀 캐릭터 사이의 갈등구도를, MBTI의 유형역동이라는 관점에서 비교 분석하고자 했다. 이에, 캐릭터의 성격유형과 심리기능의 위계를 추론하고, 유형역동에 의한 갈등과 화해의 구조를 분석하였다. 작품 분석을 통해 도출된 결론은: (1) 부모의 사고기능이 자녀의 직관기능을 구속하는 구조로, '현실과 가능성의 충돌'로 은유됨. (2) 보완 역할 캐릭터의 외향적 심리기능이, 결핍 캐릭터의 미발달된 3차기능을 보완하면서, 유형발달에 기여함. (3) 에서는, 갈등주체에 의한 직접적 단방향의 보완을 이루며, (4) 에서는, 갈등주체가 아닌 거울캐릭터에 의한 간접적 쌍방향의 상호보완을 이루는 방법론의 차이를 보인다.

VUS와 HUM 최적화를 이용한 선형함수의 모수추정 (Parameter estimation of linear function using VUS and HUM maximization)

  • ROC 곡선을 구성하는 한 개의 스코어 변수로 이루어진 분류모형을 확장하여 선형 스코어의 함수인 리스크 스코어를 고려하고, 선형 스코어의 계수를 추정하기 위한 방법으로 AUC를 최대화하는 방법을 사용한다. 이런 AUC 접근방법으로 구한 스코어의 계수 추정량은 로지스틱모형을 이용한 선형 스코어의 모수의 최대가능도 추정량보다 자료가 로지스틱 가정이 맞지 않는 일반적인 상황에서도 좋은 추정 결과를 보인다. 본 연구에서는 다항범주로 분류되어 현실적인 판별 및 예측 상황을 고려하여 AUC 접근방법을 확장한 VUS와 HUM 접근방법을 제안한다. 연결함수로는 로짓, complementary log-log와 로짓을 변형한 함수의 세 종류와 그리고 다양한 분류점의 분포인 경우에 대하여도 모의실험을 실시하였다. 본 논문에서는 다항범주 판별결과에 대하여 VUS와 HUM 접근방법도 AUC 접근방법과 유사하게 다양한 연결함수에 대하여 로지스틱모형 추정방법보다 동등하거나 더 나은 모수추정 결과를 보이는 것을 확인하였다.

LIR motifs and the membrane-targeting domain are complementary in the function of RavZ

  • The bacterial effector protein RavZ is secreted by the intracellular pathogen Legionella pneumophila and inhibits host autophagy through an irreversible deconjugation of mammalian ATG8 (mATG8) proteins from autophagosome membranes. However, the roles of the LC3 interacting region (LIR) motifs in RavZ function remain unclear. In this study, we show that a membrane-targeting (MT) domain or the LIR motifs of RavZ play major or minor roles in RavZ function. A RavZ mutant that does not bind to mATG8 delipidated all forms of mATG8-phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) as efficiently as did wild-type RavZ. However, a RavZ mutant with a deletion of the MT domain selectively delipidated mATG8-PE less efficiently than did wild-type RavZ. Taken together, our results suggest that the effects of LIR motifs and the MT domain on RavZ activity are complementary and work through independent pathways.

가구소득별 유급노동 시간과 일-여가 균형에 관한 국가비교 (A Comparative Study on the Paid Work Time and Work-Leisure Balance by Household Income)

  • 본 연구는 IMF 이후 소득 차원에서의 분배 악화와 유사하게 시간사용의 분배에서도 소득계층간 격차가 심화되고 있는 지를 검토하고, 그 영향요인을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 다국가시간사용조사(MTUS)와 생활시간조사 자료를 활용하여 프랑스, 네덜란드, 스페인, 영국, 미국, 한국 등 6개국을 대상으로 다층분석(HLM)을 실시하였다. 주요 분석결과를 제시하면, 첫째, 분석대상 국가들에서 저소득층은 유급노동시간은 길고 여가시간은 짧은 반면, 고소득층은 유급노동시간이 짧고 여가시간은 긴 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 한국의 저소득층은 비교 국가 중 유급노동시간이 가장 길고 여가시간은 가장 짧아, 일-여가 균형이 가장 낮은 수준이었고, 이러한 양상은 IMF 이후 회복되지 않고 있었다. 셋째, 다층분석 결과, 가구소득이 낮을수록 유급노동시간은 증가하고 일-여가 균형은 감소하여 장시간 노동이 특정 집단으로 귀결되는 시간 불평등 양상이 포착되었다. 넷째, 연평균노동시간은 유급노동시간을 증가시키는 반면, 가족정책지출, 재분배 정책, 소득보장정책은 유급노동시간을 감소시키는 요인으로 드러났다. 다섯째, 연평균노동시간은 일-여가 균형을 감소시켰으나, 가족정책지출, 재분배정책, 소득보장정책은 일-여가 균형을 증가시켰다. 본 연구의 의의는 IMF 이후 한국 사회에서 소득 분배뿐 아니라 시간 사용에서의 계층 간 불평등이 심화되어 왔음을 규명하였다는 것이다. 연구결과에 기초하여 본 연구는 시간을 재구조화하는 정책적 개입 전략으로 노동시간 규제 강화, 육아휴직제도 활성화와 소득대체율 실질화, 소득 재분배 관련 정책 확대, 소득보장과 시간보장 정책의 상호보완적 발전 등을 제시하였다.

페퍼민트, 그레이프후룻 에센셜 오일을 이용한 족욕 또는 스프레이 적용이 하지부종, 통증 및 피로에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Foot Bath and Spray Application of Peppermint and Grapefruit Essential Oils on Lower Extremity Edema, Pain, and Fatigue)

  • 오랫동안 서 있거나 걷는 등의 작업 후에 흔히 중력으로 인한 체내순환이 영향을 받아 하지의 부종, 통증, 피로 등이 발생할 수 있다. 본 연구는 보완대체요법으로 아로마테라피 에센셜 오일을 이용하여 족욕 또는 스프레이로 적용하였을 때 하지부종 및 하지통증, 피로에 미치는 효과를 확인하기 위한 연구이다. 본 연구는 무작위통제연구이며, 연구 참여자는 2018년 8월 15일부터 2018년 10월 11일까지 D광역시 소재 E 대학교병원에서 연구 참여자 모집공고에 자원한 간호사 78 명을 대상으로 동질성을 유지하기 위한 낮번 근무를 하는 간호사로 하였다. 실험 중재는 그레이프후룻과 페퍼민트를 1:1로 블렌딩한 에센셜 오일을 0.5ml 넣은 9L의 물에 족욕을 하거나 3%로 희석하여 분사하는 스프레이 방법을 적용하였다. 자료는 ANOVA, Repeated Measures ANOVA로 분석하였다. 아로마 테라피 족욕군과 스프레이군의 종아리 둘레가 대조군에 비해 유의하게 감소하였다(F = 14.053, p <.001). 하지 통증 (F = 42.497, p <.001)과 피로 (F = 20.641, p <.001)도 실험 중재 후 아로마테라피 족욕군과 스프레이군에서 대조군보다 유의하게 감소하였다. 하지의 부종과 통증을 완화하기 위해 족욕을 권장하며, 적용 수월성을 고려할 때 아로마 스프레이를 적극 권장한다.

건강증진을 위한 한의학적 방법론 연구 -야간근로와 음허증의 상관관계를 중심으로- (A Study on the Method of Health Promotion in Korean Medicine: Correlation between Night-shift Work and Yin-deficiency)

  • This study regarded irregular life styles such as nigh-shifts as contrary to the norm advised in the rules of Yang-saeng to analyze the problems brought about in relation to the concept of 'Yin-deficiency syndrome'. Yin-deficiency survey was given to sales workers on a big shopping mall in Seoul to compare the measurements of daytime workers to those of nigh-shift workers. The measurement of complaining symptoms related to Yin-deficiency of daytime workers and night-shift workers were compared, In comparison of the daytime workers and the night-shift workers, night-shift workers showed higher measurements than the daytime workers in the item of irritable fever on the five Hearts, flushing of the zygomatic region in the afternoon, tidal fever, dizziness, insomnia, yellow and scanty urination, and constipation. Especially tidal fever, insomnia, and constipation showed statistically significant difference. The total of ten items consisting of Yin-deficiency-related symptoms showed statistically significant high score in night-shift workers than the daytime workers. 'Factors for deficiency-type Heat' consisting of irritable fever on the five Hearts, flushing of the zygomatic region in the afternoon, tidal fever, and dried mouth and throat showed statistically significant high score in night-shift workers than the daytime workers. 'Accompanying factors' consisting of night sweats, emaciation, dizziness, insomnia, yellowish and scanty urination, and constipation also showed statistically and significantly high score in night-shift workers than the daytime workers. From the above results that night-shift workers show high degree of Yin-deficiency than daytime workers, and those overworking irregularly also show high degree of Yin-deficiency than those who work for adequate amount of time regularly implies that sitting up at night for work and sleeping at daytime, excessive work, and irregular life styles all function as high-risk factor for Yin-deficiency.

석탄화력발전소 호흡성분진 작업환경 평가 전략 사례에 관한 연구 (A Study on Occupational Environment Assessment Strategies for Respirable Particulate Matter at Coal-Fired Power Plants )

  • Objectives: Coal-fired power plants feature diverse working conditions, including multi-layered employment structures and irregular work cycles due to outsourcing and non-standardized tasks. The current uniform occupational environment measurement systems have limitations in accurately assessing and evaluating these varied conditions. This study aims to propose alternative measurement and assessment strategies to supplement existing methods. Methods: Major domestic coal-fired power plants were selected as the study targets. To prepare for the study and establish strategies, work processes were identified and existing occupational environment measurement results were compared and analyzed. The study proceeded by employing three strategies: specific exposure groups (SEGs) measurement, continuous monitoring, and supplementary measurements, which were then compared and discussed. Results: Previous exposure index evaluations (5,268 cases) indicated that crystalline silica, a type of respirable particulate matter, had detection limits below the threshold (non-detectable) in 82.6% (4,349 cases) of instances. Exposures below 10% of the exposure limit were observed at a very low concentration of 96.1%. Similar exposure group measurements yielded results where detection limits were below the threshold in 38.2% of cases, and exposures below 10% of the limit were observed in 70.6%. Continuous monitoring indicated detection limits below the threshold in 12.6% of cases, and exposures below 10% of the limit were observed in 75.6%. Instances requiring active workplace management accounted for more than 30% of cases, with SEGs at 11.8% (four cases), showing a higher proportion compared to 3.0% (four cases) in continuous monitoring. For coal dust, exposures below 10% of the limit were highest in legal measurements at 90.2% (113 cases), followed by 74.0% (91 cases) in continuous monitoring, and 47.0% (16 cases) in SEGs. Instances exceeding 30% were most prevalent in SEGs at 14.7% (five cases), followed by legal measurements at 5.0% (eight cases), and continuous monitoring at 2.4% (three cases). When examining exposure levels through arithmetic means, crystalline silica was found to be 104.7% higher in SEGs at 0.0088 mg/m3 compared to 0.0043 mg/m3 in continuous monitoring. Coal dust measurements were highest in SEGs at 0.1247 mg/m3, followed by 0.1224 mg/m3 in legal measurements, and 0.0935 mg/m3 in continuous monitoring. Conclusions: Strategies involving SEGs measurement and continuous monitoring can enhance measurement reliability in environments with irregular work processes and frequent fluctuations in working conditions, as observed in coal-fired power plants. These strategies reduce the likelihood of omitting or underestimating processes and enhance measurement accuracy. In particular, a significant reduction in detection limits below the threshold for crystalline silica was observed. Supplementary measurements can identify worker exposure characteristics, uncover potential risks in blind spots of management, and provide a complementary method for legal measurements.

일부 종합병원 간호사의 건강신념과 자기효능감 및 의료서비스 이용 (Health Beliefs, Self-efficacy and Medical Care Utilization of Korean Nurses)

  • Purpose: It was to identify the relationship with the health beliefs, self-efficacy and medical care utilization in nurses in order to provide basic data for program development to actively help nurses' health practice. Methods: The subjects were 360 hospital nurses in P city, K Province. Instruments were health belief developed by Walker, Sechrist & Pender (1987), self-efficacy by Sherer, Maddux & Mercandante(1982), and medical care utilization by Korean National Health & Nutrition Examination Survey(2006). The data were analyzed as descriptive statistics, Chi-square, t-test, and ANOVA using SPSS 11.5. Results: There were significant differences in medical care utilization depending on age(p=.008), marital status(p=.019), education level(p=.005), types of work(p=.017), nursing units(p=.018), and period of work(p=.001). Use of outpatient clinic was significantly different depending on perceived susceptibility(F=2.463, p=.045). Nurses who consulted to doctor in other hospital had higher perceived severity(F=2.759, p=.028). Nurses who used complementary medicine had higher perceived barrier(F=2.278, p=.047). The score of self-efficacy was significantly different in medical care service frequency (F=3.030, p=.018) and to whom their health problems consulted(F=3.092, p=.010). Conclusion: Medical service utilization was different depending on the demographic characteristics, perceived susceptibility, severity, and barrier, and self efficacy. It is needed to give health promotion program considering these factors for nurses.

The Role of Fungal Laccase in Biodegradation of Lignin

  • Wood components, cellulose and lignin, are degraded simultaneously and the general outline for the complementary character of carbohydrates and lignin decomposition as well as the existence of enzymatic systems combining these processes is still valid. The degradatiion of free cellulose or hemicellulose into monosaccharides has long been known to be relatively simple, but the mechanism of lignin degradatiion wasn ot solved very clearly yet. Anyway the biodegradation of woold constituents is understood at present as an enzymatic process. Kigninolytic activity has been correlated with lignin and manganese peroxidases. At present the attention is paid to laccase. Laccase oxidizes lignin molecule to phenoxy radicals and quinones . This oxidation can lead to the cleavageo f C-C or C-O bonds in the lignin phenyl-propane subunits, resulting either in degradation of both side chains and aromatic rings, or in demethylation processes. The role of laccase lies in the "activation" of some low molecular weight mediators and radicals produced by fungal cultures. Such activated factors produced also in cooperation with other enzymes are probably exported to the wood environment where they work in degradation processes as the ' enzyme messengers." It is worth mentioning that only fungi possessing laccase show demethylating activity. Thus demethylation, the process important for ligninolysis, is probably caused exclusively by laccase. Under natural conditions laccase seems to work with other fungal enzymes , mediators and mediating radicals. It has shown the possibility of direct Bjrkman lignin depolymerization by cooperative activity of laccase and glucose oxidase.
