Spatial point-patterns analyses were conducted to provide insight into the ecological process behind competition and mortality in two lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta Dougl. ex Loud. var. latifolia Engelm.) stands, one in the Lower Foothills, and the other in the Upper Foothills natural subregions in the boreal forest of Alberta, Canada. Spatial statistical tests were applied to live and dead trees and included Clark-Evans nearest neighbor statistic (R), nearest neighbor distribution function (G(r)), and a variant of Ripley's K function (L(r)). In both lodgepole pine plots, the results indicated that there was significant regularity in the spatial point-pattern of the surviving trees which indicates that competition has been a key driver of mortality and forest dynamics in these plots. Dead trees generally showed a clumping pattern in higher density patches. There were also significant bivariate relationships between live and dead trees, but the relationships differed by natural subregion. In the Lower Foothills plot there was significant attraction between live and dead tees which suggests mainly one-sided competition for light. In contrast, in the Upper Foothills plot, there was significant repulsion between live and dead trees which suggests two-sided competition for soil nutrients and soil moisture.

Lipomyces starkeyi KSM 22 elaborates an enzyme that has both dextranase and amylase activities in a single protein of 100 kDa. Competition studies, using different amounts of dextran and starch as substrates, gave a competition plot consistent with the hypothesis that the hydrolysis of dextran and starch occurs at two independent active sites, each specific for starch and dextran, respectively.
Background: The introduction of new living modified (LM) crops may pose a latent threat to the biodiversity of each country. Here, we used sunflowers (Helianthus annuus L.) as a study system to investigate the potential for invasiveness of LM crops under different environmental conditions when released into a natural ecosystem in South Korea. We examined the seed germination, survival, and flowering of sunflowers under competition with wild plants at different sowing dates (March-December) and plot sizes (1 m × 1 m and 2 m × 2 m). Results: The germination rate showed a significant difference according to the sowing date. In addition, several sunflowers survived in plots with a high germination rate, which also led to a higher flowering rate. We found that the smaller the plot, the smaller the area available for inter-species competition, and the higher the number of surviving sunflower plants. The relative dominance and importance value of the species varied significantly between the sowing dates; in particular, sunflowers sown in March could compete with wild plants for longer than those sown on other sowing dates. Conclusions: These observations indicate that the potential for invasiveness of sunflowers differs depending on the environmental conditions and seed density at the time of release.
In order to investigate varietal competition effects on yield of rice, two experiments were conducted under paddy field condition. In experiment I, two leading varieties were grown in pure and mixed stands and examined the influence of spacings and nitrogen levels on the varietal competition effects and competitive ability of two varieties. In experiment II, three leading varieties were grown in pure and mixed stands with different combinations and examined the competition effects on yield in different combinations. The results are summarized as follows: 1. No significant differences were found in grain yield between varietal mixture and pure stands, though the level of nitrogen and spacings affected plot yield. 2. In the mixture of Suwon #82 and Shin #2, Suwon #82 appeared to be a better competitor to the Shin #2 in terms of grain yield. 3. The performance of mixtures were determined by the balance of the increment of better competitor and the decrement of poorer competitor. Here, the increment of Suwon #82 due to competition did not much exceeded the decrement of Shin #2. 4. Spacings and Nitrogen levels, tested here, did not affect significantly to the varietal competition effects. 5. Jaekun, Paltal and Norin #6 showed no varietal difference in competing ability.
This study was carried out in the central part of Korea in 1972 to investigate optimum grain number per square meter and variation of the yield and its components in the direct sowing culture on irrigated paddy field. The results could be summarized as follows; 1. Number of maximum tillerings was directly increased with increase of grain number from 120 to 280 per square meter and it was gradually decreased with increase of number sowing grain. So number of maximum tillerings showed at the plot of 280 grain per square meter. Also it was showed remarkable competition at the plot more than 280 grain per square meter. 2. Percentage of effective tiller was decreased with increase of number of sowing grain from 120 to 280 per square meter and after it was gradually decreased with increase of number of sowing grain. 3. It was not remarkable competition in plot less than 1, 000 tillering per square meter on the number of maximum tillerings. 4. It was remarkable positive correlation between the number of panicle and the number of sowing grain, but it was tendency to negative correlation between the number of panicle and the number of spiklets per panicle, and between the number of panicle and the ripening ratio. 5. Correlation coefficient between the yield and the number of spiklet per square meter of land area was 0.929, r=0.695 in the yield and the number of panicle, r=0.796 in the number of panicles and the number of spiklets per square meter Also in rank correlation, it was showed most highly positive correlation(r=0.954) between the yield and the number of panicles, so number of panicles was most largely dominated on yield among the yield components in direct sowing culture on irrigated paddy field. 6. It was producted highest yield in the plot of 280 grain sowing per square meter.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the creation techniques of eco-pond, one of biotopes to promote biodiversity in urban residence area. Investigation were classified out plant, mammals, amphibia, reptiles, birds, fishes and insects. The results were summarized as follows: Around the eco-pond shows simple vegetation structurs, consisted of Pinus densoflora S et Z. and Robinia pseudoacacia under competition. In case of shrub, consisted of 4 species but plant growing appearence diversely by seasons. The evaluation of vegetation of eco-pond, there are found 4 species of aquatic plants. Inside the revetment of pond, Echinochloa crus-galli, Persicaria hydropiper, Digiaria sanguinalis, Cyperus microiria and Bidens frondosa L. are mainly distributed. Near the revetment, Trifolium repens L. and Digiaria sanguinalis are prevailed. And in its background, Erigeron canadensis, Erigeron annuus and vines are begins to make their appearances. When evaluation animals in eco-pond and contrast plot, it show simple species and numbers of mammals. It seemed to be resulted from its isolation and outside intervention by users In eco-pond, Pica pica and Streptopelia orientalis are mainly found and in contrast plot of Columba livia, which are so strong adaptation to city life environment. In case of amphibia and reptiles, none is observed in contrast plot, but in ecological pond, Rana nigromaculata and Hyla japonica are constantly observed. In case of insects, more species are found in eco-pond than contrast plot. And in eco-pond, more dragonflies are visibly increased one year after its construction. In floral zone inside of pond revetment, grasshopper and Locusta migratoria are frequently observed. In case of butterflies, they are mainly found in log fence and willow(salix) around eco-pond. In case of fishes inside of eco-pond, the species and its density are remarkable increased one year after the construction. With above evaluation results, we have identify the increase effect of biodiversity after construction of the eco-pond.
Canonical correlation biplot is 2-dimensional plot for investigating the relationship between two sets of variables and the relationship between observations and variables in canonical correlation analysis graphically. Recently, Choi and Choi (2008) suggested a method for investigating the relationship between skill and competition score factors of KLPGA players using canonical correlation biplot and cluster analysis. analysis. Procrustes analysis is very useful tool for comparing shape between configurations. Therefore, in this study, we will provide a method for investigating the relationship between player characteristic factors and competitive factors of tennis grand slams competition using Canonical correlation biplot and Procrustes analysis.
One of the most notable changes in entertainment programs has been the gamification since 1991. The comparative analysis of 255 weekend entertainment programs run by terrestrial broadcasters between 1991 and 1998 and between 2008 and 2014 indicates that entertainment programs have emigrated from the variety format to the reality, and that adopted entangled plots than interwoven ones more and more, using mission performances and competition heavily. Further, even within the reality format, different competitive factors and plot composition are adding the diversity in the end results immensely. The interaction among the gamification, plots and competitive factors is quite likely to drive creative changes in the broadcast formats in the years to come.
Weeding measures is an important issue for cereal crop because weed is superior to crops in early growth stage and there are not many herbicides applicable to cereal crop. Since the concern about well-being and eco-environmental products are increasing, cultivation with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is needed. Five treatments included as weed-free, control (not remove weed) and covering with polyvinyl chloride removed 20, 30, 40 DAS (day after seeding). At removing PVC, plant height did not differ depending on the growth stage. However, weed-free plot by weed competition were somewhat short. And, removing PVC accelerated the earlier by 2-3 day than weed-free plot. Soil moisture which removed from the control was higher than 20, 30, 40 DAS and weed-free, and it was kept low by evaporation. The chlorophyll meter of weed-free plot was 34.3, 30 DAS was 40.6 at heading time. Weed-free showed that increased in weed population $300.8g\;m^{-2}$. Weed control value of 20 DAS, 30 DAS, 40 DAS were 86.5%, 84.0% and 74.8%, respectively. In 30 DAS, yield of foxtail millet according to treatment of removing PVC were $355kg\;10a^{-1}$. At weed competition early in 30 DAS, the removing PVC was good for control. Thus, 30 DAS was judged to be suitable.
This study was conducted to evaluate the availability of the forest topsoil as a source of the "Native-soil(seed-fertilizer-soil materials)" for the hydroseeding measures which are environmentally and ecologically stable revegetation measures on rock cut-slopes. Soil sampling and factorial experiments were used with a split plot design(main plot : forest soil type and soil spraying thickness, subplot : seeding rate) in 1996. Results obtained in this study were summarized as follows : Because of the competition between the seeded(introduced) species and the native species, the number of naturally emerged species in the non-seeded plot and that of in the seeded plot were $5{\sim}9species/0.07m^2$ and $2{\sim}6species/0.07m^2$, respectively. As increasing the seeding rate(introduced species), the appearance ratio of naturally emerged species was decreased. The total number of individuals was high in the plot which used coniferous forest soil as a seed source, however the ratio of the individuals of naturally emerged species was high(30%) in the plot which used deciduous forest soil. The usage of the forest topsoil as seed bank source onto the "Native-soil" materials for hydroseeding could be reduce the seeding rate to $1,000seedlings/m^2$. According to the several factors which are competition between seeded species and naturally emerged species, dryness of soil materials, and seed burial, spraying thickness with more than 5cm was suitable for the growth of plants in variety.
