Characteristics of Exhaust Emission by the Application of Biodiesel Fuel and Oxygenates as an Alternative Fuel in an Agricultural Diesel Engine (농업용 디젤기관 대체연료로서 바이오디젤유와 함산소제 적용시의 배기배출물 특성)

  • Our environment is faced with serious problems related to the air pollution from automobiles in these days. In particular, the exhaust emissions from diesel engine are recognized main cause which influenced environment strong. In this study, the potential possibility of biodiesel fuel and oxygenates additives (dimethoxy methane) was investigated as an alternative fuel for a naturally aspirated direct injection diesel engine. The smoke emission of blending fuel (biodiesel fuel 90vol-% + DMM 10vol-%) was reduced in comparison with diesel fuel, that is, it was reduced approximately 70% at 2500 rpm, full load. But, power, torque and brake specific energy consumption didn't have no large differences. But, NOx emissions from biodiesel fuel and DMM blended fuel were increased compared with commercial diesel fuel.

  • Control systems have been greatly studied in recent years and can be classified as: passive, active, semi-active or hybrid systems. Most forms of control systems have been applied in a centralized manner where all the information is sent to a central node where control the algorithm is then calculated. One of the possible problems of centralized control is the difficulty to scale its application. In this paper, a completely decentralized control algorithm is analytically implemented. The algorithm considers that each of the control systems makes the best decision based solely on the information collected at its location. Semi-active control is used in preference to active control because it has minimal energy consumption, little to no possibility of destabilization, a reduction in the possibility of data saturation, and a reduction in the response time in comparison to centralized control.

  • Refrigerators have some frost related problems in a freezing compartment. The frost formation in the refrigerator gives customers a bad impression concerning quality problems. Therefore, many engineers have been studying the optimum solution to avoid frost formation. But the problem of frost formation is very complex and hard to approach to the answer. The frost generation of a household refrigerator have been widely known that is closely related to the distribution of temperature inside the compartment. The distribution depends on the cold air circulation inside the refrigerator. So frost problem can be reduced and energy consumption efficiency also improved through optimization of air flow fields inside the freezing compartment. In this paper, numerical simulation has been carried out to check fluid flow. The variation of temperature at the walls was measured and quantitative analysis of frost generated from the freezing compartment was carried out. Through comparison between simulation and experiment, some correlation revealed.

Application of the Outdoor Air Temperature Prediction Control for Intermittent Heating Residences (간헐난방주택에 대한 외기온도 예측제어 적용 연구)

  • Most of radiant floor heating systems are operated in the intermittent heating mode in Korea. The application possibility of predictive suboptimal control for Koran residential house was investigated by computer simulation and experiment. For this study, TRNSYS program was used and an experimental facility consisting of tow rooms ($3\times4.4\times2.8 m$) identical in construction was built. The facility enabled simultaneous comparison of two different control method. And real multi residential hose was investigated. Results showed that outdoor air temperature prediction control was superior to the conventional control for radiant floor heating system operated in the intermittent heating mode. New control system resulted in good thermal environment and les energy consumption.

Specially, the exhaust emissions from the diesel engine are recognized as a main cause influencing the environment severly. In this study, the potential possibility of biodiesel fuel is investigated as an alternative fuel for a naturally aspirated CRDi type diesel engine. The smoke emission of biodiesel fuel 5 vol-% was reduced by approximately 40% at 3000 rpm and full load in comparison with diesel fuel. On the other hand, the power, torque and brake specific energy consumption didn't show significant differences. NOx emission of biodiesel fuel was, however, increased compared with commercial diesel fuel.

Comparison of Dietary Habits and Nutrient Intakes in Subjects with Obesity or Hyperglycemia Classified Metabolic Syndrome (비만 또는 고혈당 증상 보유에 따른 대사성증후군의 식습관 및 영양상태 비교)

  • Metabolic syndrome (MS) was defined as condition in which the subjects have two or more abnormalities among obesity, hyperlipidemia, hypertension and hyperglycemia. To develop a nutritional education program for MS, this study was performed to compare the dietary habits and nutrients intake of complex symptoms of MS with obesity or hyper-glycemia. The participants in this study were 84 normal adults,62 MS with obesity, 33 MS with hyperglycemia and 54 MS with obesity and hyperglycemia (OB + HG). A dietary survey was conducted using 24-hour recall method. Total cholesterol level of MS with obesity group was significantly higher than other groups. WHR and systolic blood pressure showed no significant difference among MS with obesity, hyperglycemia and OB+HG groups. Dietary intakes of energy, Fe, Vit A, Vit $B_2$ and Ca were less than $75\%$ of 7th Korean RDA in the all groups. Especially, dietary intakes of Vit $B_2$, Vit A and Ca were less than $50\%$ of RDA in MS with hyperglycemia and OB+HG groups. The other nutrient intakes of each group were also below the RDA level except for P, Vit C. It appeared that most of the nutrient intakes in MS with hyperglycemia and OB + HG groups were significantly lower than normal group. In MS with obesity group, each consumption of sweet, organ meat and soup was higher than other groups. Each consumption of garlic and onion in MS with obesity, hyperglycemia and OB + HG groups was lower than normal group. Also, each consumption of soup in MS with hyperglycemia and OB + HG groups was higher than normal group. Indices of nutritional quality (INQ) for Ca, Vit A and Vit $B_2$ were below 1 in all the groups. Food composition group score of MS with hyperglycemia group was significantly lower than normal and MS with obesity groups. Our results indicated that nutritional education program for MS with obesity or hyperglycemia should include specific strategies to modify unsound dietary habits and inappropriate food intake for health.

The Characteristics of Performance and Exhaust Emission on Simultaneous Application with Biodiesel Fuel and Oxygen Component in a C.I. Engine (압축착화기관에서 바이오디젤유 및 함산소성분 동시적용시 성능과 배기배출물 특성)

In particular, the exhaust emissions from the diesel engines are recognized as main cause which has a great influence on environment. In this study, the potential of biodiesel fuel and oxygenated fuel(ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether; EGBE) was investigated as an effective method of decreasing the smoke emission. The smoke emission of blending fuel(EGBE 0~20 vol-%) was reduced in comparison with diesel fuel and it was reduced approximately 64% at 2000 rpm, full load in the 20% of blending rate. On the contrary NOx emissions from biodiesel fuel and EGBE blended fuel were increased compared with diesel fuel. Torque and brake specific energy consumption(BSEC) didn't have large differences.

  • This is an experimental study on the performance characteristics of Diesel Automobile with ultrasonic fuel feeding system. For this purpose, ultrasonic fuel feeding system was made and atomization characteristics was measured. Base on this result, carried out engine dynamometer test to investigate the performance characteristics of diesel automobile with ultrasonic fuel feeding system in comparison with conventional diesel fuel injector. The results are as follows. 1) In the spray characteristics test, fuel particle sizes were decreased about 11%~21%. 2) In engine dynamometer test, -The power was increased about 5%~11%. -The thermal efficiency was improved about 6%~11%. -The specific fuel consumption was improved about 6%~19%. -The smoke concentration was decreased about 11%~50%.

  • Since the railway passenger services have been recognized as important factor for success in railway, electrical energy consumption in railway station for high quality service has greatly increased. Furthermore, the number of the private railway station has gradually increased. Therefore, the operation conditions for railway power distribution system is dramatically changed in comparison with the past. So, this paper proposes the optimal construction method for railway power distribution system considering economical efficiency and the reliability of power supply to establish the railway power distribution system standard for the future railway industry.
