  • Recently, the building has been changed into high-rise and long span and this yields a development of high performance structural steels in construction market. According to this effect, the SM 520 and the SM 570 were developed and utilized into steel building industry. However, the study for fire resistance of them were not done actively. In this study, to know and comparative the fire resistance performance of long span beams built up with high strength structural steels an analytical method is going to applied using mechanical and thermal properties at high temperature.

  • This study presents the comparative filtration performance evaluation of automotive fuel filters based on the theory of Beta ratio. For the experiments, the fuel component's test stand incorporating the multi-pass filtration test circuit was developed. A mathematical description of filtration process in general was derived. And the theoretical basis of multi-pass test and the test procedure were described in detail. Experimental results revealed that domestic fuel filter tested could not maintain consistent Beta ratio, that is filtration efficiency, although it had the holding capacity of contaminants close to the specification at maximum pressure drop across the filter assembly. The results of experiments and simulations also showed that filtration system model could be refined including desorption ratio to estimate the variable Beta ratio in service life.

  • It is a common tool to use alphanumeric displays on CRT for documentation, search, and communication. So, it is very important to design ergonomic displays for enhancing user performance. This paper concerns with a method of quantifing the four VDT design parameters such as total density, local density, grouping and layout complexity. A case study to demonstrate the pocedure of quantifing parameters and a comparative analysis between the ready made and the newly designed displays are provided in this paper. Concludingly, ergonomic displays which were designed in accordance with the scientific procedure were much more better than the ready made exampled displays in both of processing time and error rate.

  • Fast response, regenerative energy capturing and commercial maturity of battery characterize it as the best complementary source for hybrid Railway propulsion systems (HRPSs). Although all batteries which have been commercialized do exhibit these features, but on the band of comparative performance and optimization facilitation for HRPSs, every battery occupy different level. This paper is intended to identify the determinants of the performance level in order to select the best option among batteries for HRPSs.

  • In order to achieve high efficiency of energy use and environment-friendly architectural design, various loads such as cooling, heating and hot water required by the building sector must be accurately predicted. Many studies used dynamic simulation tool to evaluate and analyze building energy performance. However, there are few studies on the comparative analysis of load results by each simulation and the evaluation of simulation characteristics and functions. In this study, the cooling, heating loads and energy demand of the buildings were evaluated using three dynamic simulations for the building with the same input conditions, and the characteristics of each simulation were compared and analyzed through the results. As a result of simulation comparative analysis, cooling, heating load and energy demand was lowest in square type and north-south direction conditions.

  • To test the compatibility of differential optical absorption spectroscopy (DOAS) and conventional in-situ monitoring technique we conducted a comparative analysis of the two systems using hourly measurement data sets of three criteria pollutants including No$_{2}$O$_{3}$, and SO$_{2}$ collected in months between April and June of 2001 at Sung Man city, Kyung Gi Province, Korea. The results of our comparative analysis were useful to evaluate the various aspects of DOAS performance, of particular the level of agreement with the counterpart method through computation of percent differences and correlation analysis. Interpretation of the mixing ratio data for those chemical species was however confined in terms of explaining the differences affected by the changes in environmental conditions because measurements of important meteorological parameters were limited during most of the study period. Nevertheless, the overall results of this study strongly demonstrated that the mixing ratio of major pollutants measured by the two different systems maintain strong compatibility from various respects.
