It was performed by two programs, application program and space design program. The former is focused on the participation of residents to the planing and design process, sharing, community activity, social interaction, and management by residents. The latter is focused on the common space(room) design. It was also performed by literature review, observation, and interview. The findings for the community design as an application program in SCH are almost the same with those in CH. But, the level of common meal and common laundry in SCH is lower than that of CH. And space design program is focused on the location and scale of common space(room) which is related to the number of users. As a result, the positive possibilities of SCH as a new residential type for the self-reliant seniors can be confirmed. The difference of community design application between CH and SCH is caused by various factors such as senior's health conditions, economic factors, and Japanese life style.

The purpose of this study is to examine the demand on housing options, additional space, shared space, community facilities, housing service for young adults living alone including college students. A total of 180 questionnaire were collected and analyzed. For housing location, commuting distance is the most important feature and amenities are the second important feature. For additional space, there is a significant difference between male and female single residents. Female residents want to install dress room most while male adults want to have a study room. For the shared house option, single adults concerns housing fee and living cost most. However, female adults concern safety and security issues much more than male ones do. The degree of preference to community facilities varies between male and female single residents. The findings suggest more differentiated approaches are needed for alternative housing options for male and female residents.
This study identifies intention to move, reasons for moving and housing preferences of US residents 55 and older living in non-subsidized and market-rate multifamily housing in the United States. Data were collected using an on-line survey; mixed methods were used for data analysis (N=431). Results show that more than half of the respondents intend to move. Senior residents who were younger than average age of the respondents, not married, renters, had no elevator, and reported lower residential satisfaction with their housing unit, multifamily housing community and local area were more likely to intend to move. Seven reasons for considering moving were found: finance, health, lifecycle stage, housing unit, multifamily housing community, other. When asked about their future housing, more than 80% desired independent living rather than assisted living facilities or nursing homes, 40% wanted to live in multifamily housing, and 51% hoped to own their housing rather than renting. The findings offer meaningful information to the multifamily housing industry in the United States and in countries where the population is aging and where multifamily housing is the predominant housing type.
Around 80% of the 63 million people in the UK live in urban areas where demand for affordable housing is highest. Supply of new dwellings is a long way short of demand and with an average annual replacement rate of 0.5% more than 80% of the existing residential housing stock will still be in use by 2050. A high proportion of owner-occupiers, a weak private rental sector and lack of sustainable financing models render England's housing market one of the least responsive in the developed world. As an exploratory research the purpose of this paper is to examine the provision of social housing in the United Kingdom with a particular focus on England, and to set out implications for housing associations delivering sustainable community development. The paper is based on an analysis of historical data series (Census data), current macro-economic data and population projections to 2033. The paper identifies a chronic undersupply of affordable housing in England which is likely to be exacerbated by demographic development, changes in household composition and reduced availability of finance to develop new homes. Based on the housing market trends analysed in this paper opportunities are identified for policy makers to remove barriers to the delivery of new affordable homes and for social housing providers to evolve their business models by taking a wider role in sustainable community development.
In era of lowbirth, aging population, low growth and social polarization, the effective welfare delivery systems are taking on added significance than past years. Public housing welfare resources, such as public rental housing, housing voucher, affordable housing loan, are more diversified and expanded. These programs could work effectively by the comprehensive interlink and community based delivery system. From the standpoint of recipients, how effectively the substantial benefits of welfare resources being delivered to each individual is more important than how much welfare resources being produced totally. This study aimed to explore the reform of public housing welfare delivery system. For this purpose, diagnosed the current states and key issues related to public delivery system, and analyzed what kinds of housing welfare services should be strengthened, and finally suggested the collaboration among the public sectors (local government, LH, HUG, HF etc.) and the partnership with non-profit organizations. Main research implications are as follows. The main housing welfare services which could be categorized as the housing welfare center's role are advice & information offering, several public resources interlink and accessibility improvement, community based network construction, etc. And the most important key for successful delivery system reorganization is the collaborative operation of the public sectors and local government, non-profit organizations.
Since public rental housings (social housings) in Korea are extremely standardized and uniformed, a variety of needs of residents for their housing are hardly satisfied. Public rental housing conditions, its low quality and size limitations regardless of residents type and needs resulted into negative images of social housing and social discriminations. Therefore there is a growing demand for alternative housing options in terms of diversification of social housing design with consideration for changing households and housing requirements. The purpose of this study to investigate some housing design guidelines, to analyze layout of building complex, community designs, household units and characteristics, overall design characteristics (sustainable design features, facade design, window and balcony composition, color and materials) and to provide some design suggestions for social housing. Design guidelines are classified into site planning and building layouts, residential building and household units, and performance of housing. Community facilities and their design features provide uniqueness of the public residence. Overall housing size of foreign cases is bigger than the domestic cases. Narrow shape of household units are more dominant in Korean public rental housing. More various shape and forms are found in facade and window design in foreign cases. Some design suggestion are provided for more diverse housing units and design for public rental housing in Korea.
The Ministry of Construction & Transportation revised the full text of 'The Act for Promoting Housing Construction' that concentrated to the quantitative supply of houses into 'Housing Act' in order to improve the quantity as well as quality of housing construction and management, such as housing welfare, management or improvement of previous houses, in October 2002. Accordingly, local authority need to play more critical roles in the area of multi-family housing management and remodeling. The desirable roles of local authority called for the need are like followings: 1. Local authority should provide professional knowledge for education, direction and consultation of multi-family housing management rather keeping the previous role to control, manage and regulate it. 2. The multi-family housing management should be changed from administration and punishment to incentive-centered institutions. 3. It is necessary to consider neglected people, such as occupants of rental apartment or of a small-sized multi-family housing, who have been excepted from the subject of obligatory management under the current law. 4. For harmonious and professional housing management, local authority need to support the establishment or special companies for housing management and to strengthen the audit on trust management companies. 5. It calls for the studies on management guideline of multi-family housing, standardization of management specifics, reasonable standard for special mending appropriation amount, etc. 6. They should lead the composition of a community by residents harmoniously and support the encouragement of community consciousness to live together.
