Molecular identification of oriental medicinal plant Schizonepeta tenuifolia bunge (Hyung-Gae) by multiplex PCR

  • Schizonepeta tenuifolia (Korean name "Hyung- Gae") is an oriental medicinal plant that is widely used in Korea, China and Japan. S. tenuifolia (Hyung-Gae) has many pharmacological activities and is mostly used for many medicinal preparations. The dried aerial part (spikes and stems) of three oriental medicinal plants, S. tenuifolia (Hyung-Gae), Agastache rugosa (Kwhak-Hyang) and Elsholtzia ciliata (Hyang-Yoo) belonging to the same family, mint family Labiaceae, have such similar shape and smell that it is difficult to differentiate between them. The trnL-F regions of chloroplast DNA of the three medicinal plants were sequenced and used as targets in multiplex PCR reaction to identify S. tenuifolia. After alignment of trnL-F sequences of the authenticated plant samples, one single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) specific to S. tenuifolia was found. Based on this SNP, a new primer was designed that specifically amplifies the trnL-F region of S. tenuifolia. The established multiplex-PCR was proven to be effective in the differentiation of commercial S. tenuifolia samples from A. rugosa and E. ciliata. This rapid and accurate molecular method is highly promising for use in the food industry.

중국 중재조정의 적법성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Legality of Arb-Med in China)

  • According to Chinese Arbitration Law, combination of mediation with arbitration means that in the process of arbitration, arbitrator may conduct mediation proceedings for the case they are handling, provided both parties agree to do so. If mediation succeeds and the parties reach a settlement agreement, the arbitrators may render a consent award or a written mediation statement in accordance with the contents of the settlement agreement. If mediation fails, the arbitration proceedings will be resumed until the case is concluded by making of an arbitral award. There is no formal name of this system in China, it is called "combination of mediation with arbitration", "mediation in arbitration process" or "arbitration-mediation", the author of this thesis select "arbitration-mediation" and make it simply as "Arb-Med". This thesis concentrates on three issues that arbitrators and the parties have to clarify and pay attention to once they choose to use Arb-Med. The first part is about the 'waivable problems', include waive the right to challenge a arbitrator who act as a mediator at the same time with parties' approval, as well as the question about the waiver of the arbitrator's duty to disclose confidential information obtained during mediation. The second part is 'public policy in Arb-Med', introduces the concept of public policy, the bias may arise the complaint about public policy, and the due procedure problem. And the last part is about the award deals with a difference not contemplated by or not falling within the terms of the submission to arbitration, or it contains decisions on matters beyond the scope of the submission to arbitration, especially about the award including some contents which has relation to third party's interests.

국내 패션 주얼리 시장의 현황과 활성화 방안 연구 - 남대문 상가를 중심으로 - (A study on the status of domestic jewelry market and Revitalization -Focused on Namdaemun market-)

  • Namdaemun Market is located in the heart of history and has the volume and the budget for nearly half of the total Namdaemun. But it has been undergoing the crisis of stagnation without reviving the merit of only the 'jewelry' wholesale industrial cluster in the nation. The purposes of this study were that analyzed the status and design of jewelry in Namdaemun and identified the characteristics of successful domestic jewelery brands and then the revitalized the way of the Namdaemun jewelry industry. Problems being currently facing the Namdaemun jewelry shopping are most likely caused by products' design did not respond to changes quickly, while China's jewelry products are in leaps of the quality and the affordable jewelry market in Korea has lost the large number of the customers by china's cheap jewelry products. The most feature of successful domestic jewelry companies, Red Eye, Naughty Cat and Jackie Moon. put the most effort to unique design development and then constantly develope new designs to meet the diverse needs of consumers. It is a conclusion that the Namdaemun jewelry market need to produced under the name of brand not by the traditional whole sale market style. Development unique jewelry brand requires a high-end commercial strategy of the logo, packaging and interior. The high-end quality require for the advanced designs as well as the study of new materials needed for the advanced materials.

초등학교 홈페이지에서의 불건전 정보 유통 및 개인정보 노출 실태 분석 (An Analysis on the Status of Inappropriate Material Posting and Personal Information Exposure in Elementary Schools' Web Sites)

  • 본 논문에서는 244개 국공립 초등학교 홈페이지를 직접 접속하여 불건전 정보 유통과 개인정보 노출 측면에서 학교 홈페이지의 안전 실태를 조사하였다. 홈페이지 게시판에 음란물과 상업성 광고들이 나타나는 학교가 62.7%에 달하였으며, 87.3%의 학교가 학생들의 사진, 주소, 전화번호와 같은 학생의 개인정보를 노출시키고 있었다. 분석 결과 불건전 정보의 유통은 대부분 자동등록 프로그램에 의한 것으로, 이는 무분별한 게시판 개설 및 부적절한 관리에 기인한다. 이와는 대조적으로 개인정보 노출은 교사와 학생들의 부주의한 정보관리에서 비롯되었다. 이것은 교사와 학생들이 개인정보 노출에 따른 위험성을 제대로 알지 못하고 있다는 것을 나타내는 것이다. 따라서 안전한 학교 홈페이지의 구축과 이용을 위해서는 먼저 실명에 의한 회원관리와 게시판 사용권한에 대한 통제가 강화되어야 한다. 그리고 현재 학교 홈페이지에 나타나는 역기능은 물론 잠재적 위험요인에 대한 교사의 올바른 인식이 필요하다.

Effect of Ecofriendly Pesticides Against Adoxophyes orana (Lepidoptera: Tortrididae) on Tea Tree (Camellia sinensis L.)

  • A study was carried out to identify the life cycle of Adoxophyes orana (Lepidoptera: Tortrididae) that inflicts tea tree leaves in Korea and selected three ecofriendly pesticides (Common name for commercial: Essential oil, Nemacatch, and Wormstop in Korean Farmers' Market) of A. orana for pest control. A. orana appeared to follow four life cycle phases a year; each presenting varying developmental periods dependent on seasonal and environmental factors. The fecundity of A. orana female was $24.6{\pm}4.10$ for $1^{st}$, $36.7{\pm}12.77$ for$ 2^{nd}$, and $27.9{\pm}4.22$ for $3^{rd}$ phase during 2011, while it was $65.0{\pm}32.72$, $49.7{\pm}30.27$, $63.8{\pm}27.22$ for corresponding phases during 2012. The average longevity of adult A. orana was 7.72 days. The average number of eggs deposited by each female in this study group was 44.62 with an average of 2.47. In three selected ecofriendly pesticides, the mortality of A. orana on treating with the Essential oil [The essential oil of Chamaecyparis obtuse (100%)] and Nemacatch [Azadirachtin 800-900 ppm (75%)] were 36.67% and 43.33% after 3 days and were 48.30% and 56.67% after 7days, respectively. Besides, the mortality of A. orana on treating with Wormstop [Azadirachtin 500 ppm (5%) and Salannin+Liminoids (95%)] was 61.67% and 78.33% after 3 and 7 days, respectively. Therefore, the application of Wormstop was the most useful to control the diseases caused by A. orana.

Antimicrobial Efficacy of Penicillium amestolkiae elv609 Extract Treated Cotton Fabric for Diabetic Wound Care

  • Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disorder which affects millions of population worldwide. Global estimates published in 2010 reported the world diabetic prevalence as 6.4%, affecting 285 million adults. Foot ulceration and wound infection are major forms of disabilities arising from diabetic diseases. This study was aimed to develop a natural antimicrobial finishing on medical grade textile that meets American Association of Textiles Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) standard. The textile samples were finished with the ethanolic extract of Penicillium amestolkiae elv609, an endophytic fungus isolated from Orthosiphon stamineus Benth (common name: cat's whiskers). Endophyte is defined as microorganism that reside in the living plant tissue, without causing apparent disease symptom to the host. The antimicrobial efficacy of the ethanolic extract of P. minioluteum was tested on clinical pathogens isolated from diabetic wound. The extract exhibited significant inhibitory activity against 4 bacteria and 1 yeast with the minimal inhibitory concentration ranged from 6.25 to 12.5 mg/mL. The results indicate different susceptibility levels of the test microorganism to the ethanolic extract. However, the killing activity of the extract was concentration-dependent. The finished medical textile showed excellent antimicrobial efficacy on AATCC test assays. All the microbial cultures treated with the textile sample displayed a growth reduction of 99.9% on Hoheinstein Challenge Test. The wash durability of the finished textile was found good even after 50 washes with commercial detergent. Besides, the gas chromatography mass spectrometry analysis showed that 6-octadecenoic acid and diethyl phthalate were the main bioactive constituents of the extract. In conclusion, the developed medical textile showed good antimicrobial efficacy on laboratory tests. This work can be extended to in vivo trials for developing healthcare textile products for antimicrobial applications.

도시 '본정통'의 장소 기억 -충무로.명동 일대의 사례- (Place Memories of the Downtown 'Bonjeong-tong': the Case of Chungmu-ro.Myeongdong Area in Seoul, Korea)

  • 일제강점기에 기원한 일본식 지명이자 상업 중심지로서의 본정통은 오늘날까지 우리나라 도시들에서 번화가를 일컫는 대명사로 통한다. 이 연구는 서울의 충무로와 명동 일대를 사례로 도시 본정통이 함축하고 있는 다양한 장소 기억들을 탐색한 것이다. 연구자는 장소 기억이라는 개념을 지리학의 입장에서 정초한 다음, 이 개념을 매개로 본정통이라는 한 장소에 쌓인 기억의 다층성과 경합성에 주목하며 본정통의 장소 기억을 세 가지 층위로 재구성할 수 있었다. '식민 권력의 상징' vs. '근대의 표상', '금융 자본주의의 심장' vs. '문화 예술인의 마당', '유행의 공간' vs. '정체성의 장소'가 그것이다. 결론적으로, 연구자는 도시에서 우리 삶의 흔적이 여기 저기에 수평적으로 산재하는 것이 아니라 도시 안의 한 장소 그 자체가 일종의 팔림세스트라는 점을 강조하였고, 따라서 도시 공간에 대한 연구에서 수평적 접근보다는 수직적 접근이 필요함을 주장하였다.

다공성 TiO2-SiO2 복합 단열재의 열전도율 평가 (Evaluation of Thermal Conductivity of Porous TiO2-SiO2-Base Thermal Insulation)

  • We developed nano-porous $TiO_2-SiO_2$ composites (commercial name : PTI, porous titania insulator) with low thermal conductivity as thermal insulating material as well as function of photocatalyst. The objectives of this paper are, firstly, to evaluate of the thermal conductivity of the PTI powder in the temperature range from -160 to $250^{\circ}C$, secondly to evaluate of thermal conductivities of insulation materials that is applied PTI powder. The structure of the PTI powder that has the pores size of 20-30 nm and the particle diameter of 2-10 nm. The PTI had a high surface area of $400m^2/g$ and a mean pore size of $45{\AA}$, which was fairly uniform. The thermal conductivity was measured by GHP(guarded hot plate) method and HFM(heat flux method). The PTI structure is a three-dimensional network nano-structures composed by a pearl-necklace that involved a precious stone in the center of the necklace. The thermal conductivities of PTI-PX powder by the GHP and HFM were 0.0366 W/m.K, 0.0314 W/m.K at $20^{\circ}C$, respectively. This is similar to values that are proportional to the square of the absolute temperature of the thermal conductivity of static air. The thermal conductivities of insulating sheets coated with PTI powder were similar results with that of the PTI powder.

석출강화형 극저탄소강의 특성에 대한 고찰 (Characteristics of Precipitation Hardened Extra Low Carbon Steels)

  • Conventional bake-hardenable(BH) steels should be annealed at higher temperatures because of the addition of Ti or/and Nb which forms carbides and raises recrystallization start temperature. In this study, the development of new BH steels without Ti or Nb addition has been reviewed. The new BH steels have nearly same mechanical properties as the conventional BH steels even though it is annealed at lower temperature. The steels also show smaller deviation of the mechanical properties than that of the conventional BH steels because of the conarol of solute carbon content during steel making processes. The deviation of mechanical properties in conventional BH steels is directly dependent on the deviation of solute carbon which is greatly influenced by the amount of the carbide formers in conventional BH steels. Less alloy addition in the newly developed BH steels gives economical benefits. By taking the advantage of sulfur and/or nitrogen which scarenge in Interstitial-Free or conventional BH steels, fine manganese sulfides or nano size copper sulfides were designed to precipitate, and result in refined ferrite grains. Aluminum nitrides used as a precipitation hardening element in the developed steels were also and resull in fine and well dispersed. As a result, the developed steels with less production cost and reduced deviation of mechanical properties are under commercial production. Note that the developed BH steels are registered as a brand name of MAFE(R) and/or MAF-E(R).

Differential Proteomic Analysis of Chinese fir Clone Leaf Response to Salicylic Acid

  • Chinese fir (Latin name: Cunninghaimia lanceolata) is one of the major commercial coniferous trees. Most of Chinese fir forests are managed in successive rotation sites, which lead productivity to decline. Autotoxicity is the important reason for soil degradation of Chinese fir plantation, especially, phenolic acids are considered as the major allelopathic toxins which induce autotoxicity in Chinese fir rotation stands. We performed here proteomic approach to investigate the response of proteins in Chinese fir leaves to salicylic acid. The tube plantlets of Chinese fir clone were treated with 120 mg/L salicylic acid for 1, 3 and 5th day. 2-DE, coupled with MALDI-TOF-TOF/MS, was used to separate and identify the responsive proteins. We found 12, 7, and 12 candidate protein spots that were up- or down-regulated by at least 2.5 fold after 1, 3, and 5th day of the stress, respectively. Of these protein spots, 16 spots were identified successfully. According to the putative physiological functions, these proteins were categorized into five classes (1) the proteins involved in protein stability and folding, including 26S proteome, Grp78, Hsp70, Hsp90 and PPIase; (2) the protein involved in photosynthesis and respiration, including OEC 33 kDa subunit, GAPDH; (3) the protein related to cell endurance to acid, F-ATPase; (4) the protein related to cytoskeleton, tubulin; (5) the protein related to protein translation: prolyl-tRNA synthetase. These results give new insights into autotoxic substance stress response in Chinese fir leaves and provide preliminary footprints for further studies on the molecular signal mechanisms induced by the stress.
