FEASIBILITY OF AN INTEGRATED STEAM GENERATOR SYSTEM IN A SODIUM-COOLED FAST REACTOR SUBJECTED TO ELEVATED TEMPERATURE SERVICES

  • As one of the ways to enhance the economical features in sodium-cooled fast reactor development, the concept of an integrated steam generator and pump system (ISGPS) is proposed from a structural point of view. And the related intermediate heat transfer system (IHTS) piping layout compatible with the ISGPS is described in detail. To assure the creep design lifetime of 60 years, the structural integrity is investigated through high temperature structural evaluation procedures by the SIE ASME-NH computer code, which implements the ASME-NH design rules. From the results of this study, it is found that the proposed ISGPS concept is feasible and applicable to a commercial SFR design.

  • In order to investigate the vibration characteristics of fluid-structure interaction problem, we modeled two identical rectangular plates coupled with bounded fluid. The fixed boundary condition along the plate edges and an ideal fluid were assumed. A commercial computer code, ANSYS was used to perform finite element analysis and FEM solutions were compared with the experimental results to modify the finite element model. As a result, comparison of FEM and experiment showed good agreement, and the transverse vibration modes, in-phase and out of-phase. were observed alternately in the tluid-coupled system. The effects of distance between two rectangular plates and width to length ratio on the fluid-coupled natural frequency were investigated. And it was found that the ormalized natural frequency of the fluid-coupled system monotonically increased with an increase in the number of modes.

  • 본 논문의 목적은 액체 살포시 사용되는 초미립자 살포기에 대하여 SolidWorks를 이용하여 설계하고 3차원 유한요소해석 코드인 ANSYS를 활용하여 해석하였다. 해석결과로서 응력, 변형률과 전체 변형량을 구하였고 이를 활용하여 초미립자 살포기의 구조를 개선하였으며 이러한 방법은 생산성 향상과 설계기간을 단축할 수 있다.

Validation of a CFD model for hydraulic seals

  • Optimization of seal geometries can reduce significantly the energetic losses in a hydraulic seal [1], especially for high head runner turbine. In the optimization process, a reliable prediction of the losses is needed and CFD is often used. This paper presents numerical experiments to determine an adequate CFD model for straight, labyrinth and stepped hydraulic seals used in Francis runners. The computation is performed with a finite volume commercial CFD code with a RANS low Reynolds turbulence model. As numerical computations in small radial clearances of hydraulic seals are not often encountered in the literature, the numerical results are validated with experimental data on straight seals and labyrinth seals. As the validation is satisfactory enough, geometrical optimization of hydraulic seals using CFD will be studied in future works.

  • For developing 5-axis laser cutting systems, many problems such as rotating of laser head or table, 5-axis tool path generation and collision avoidance between laser head and product should be solved. In this paper, a five-axis laser cutting machine with table swivel and rotary type configuration is developed. The five axes (X,Y,Z,A,B) are controlled and interfaced to PC via MMC board. Two kinds of CAM S/W such as commercial 5-axis CAM S/W(Euclid) and UG-API are engaged to generate NC code for the developed 5-axis laser cutting machine.

A Numerical Study on the Reduction of Water Hammering in a Simple Water Supply Pipe System

  • A numerical study has been conducted to characterize the transient pressure in a simple water supply pipe system with an air chamber by utilizing a commercial code that employs the method of characteristics. Some results produced for validation in the study agree quite well with the previously reported. Several parameters are than varied. Among them are the valve closure time, the wave speed, the static pressure, the polytropic exponent, the air chamber volume, the diameter and the shape of orifice in the air chamber, etc, while the water temperature and velocity are kept constant at $20^\circ{C}$ and 0.8m/s, respectively. Results reported in this parametric study may be useful to understand the unsteady behavior of the system.

  • In the present study, the characteristic of warpage and flow balance for family mould, which is able to mold parts with different shapes in a mold, is considered. To obtain an optimal gate and runner system, plastic injection molding analysis with commercial code is performed. Design and manufacturing of family mould is then carried out on the basis of this computer aided engineering result. Flow balance and warpage comparisons between experiment and numerical analysis give good agreement with each other. However, it was shown that results of warpage measured by CMM was about $20\~55\%$ lower than those of numerical analysis.

Dynamic Characteristics of Water Hammer Arresters for Building Service Applications

  • Dynamic characteristics of water hammer arresters installed in a building water supply system have been investigated numerically by utilizing a commercial code that employs the method of characteristics. Some preliminary results with those arrester models produced in this study agree well with the previously reported. Then, the arrester models have been incorporated into a water supply pipe system of a 59 $m^2$apartment unit constructed by a leading construction company, and their dynamic characteristics have been investigated, especially on the reduction in the water hammer pressure. It is found that the setting of the arresters in the pipe system, which is recommended by the company, may not be proper for reducing the pressure down below 1,082.0 kPa (10.0 kg$g_f$/$cm^2$) when quick-closure valves in the pipe system are closed within 30 ms at the static pressure of 542.6 kPa (4.5 kg$g_f$/$cm^2$). More arresters in the system may be required to meet pressure criteria stated on the related standards and codes.

등기하 개념에 기초한 구조부재의 형상 최적화 (Shape Optimization of Structural Members Based on Isogeometry Concept)

  • 본 연구는 구조 시스템에서 중요 부위, 즉 응력이 집중되는 영역에서의 형상 최적화를 다룬 것이다. 등기하 해석은 기하학적 모델링(CAD)과 수치적 해석(CAE)을 통합하는 효율적인 방법으로 잘 알려져 있다. 이는 NURBS에 의한 기하학적 모델링을 직접 이용함으로써 이루어 질 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 등기하 개념을 도입한 효율적인 구조해석 컴퓨터 코드를 개발하였다. 여기에서는 CAD에 대한 정보를 유한요소 모델링에 직접 이용할 수 있다. 본 연구에서 개발한 코드의 타당성을 보이기 위해, 본 연구에서 개발한 코드에 의한 구조해석 결과를 유한요소해석 상용 패키지인 MSC/NASTRAN에 의한 결과와 비교하였다. 구조역학적인 문제에서 최적화를 다룰 수 있도록 본 연구의 등기하 해석 과정을 최적화 과정과 통합하였다. 본 시스템을 브라켓이 있는 외팔 구조의 형상 최적화에 성공적으로 적용하였다. 본 연구를 통해 개발한 시스템의 타당성을 검증하였다. 이 논문의 끝 부분에서는 본 연구방법의 실용적 적용성과 추후 연구에 대해 언급하였다.
