Resin-type neutron shielding materials, KNS-115A, 115B and 115C have been fabricated to be used for spent fuel shipping cask. The base material is epoxy resin, and polypropylene, aluminium hydroxide and boron carbide are added. These shielding materials offer good fluidity at processing, which makes it possible to apply this resin shield to complicated geometric shapes such as shipping cask. Several measurements were made for the shielding materials to evaluate the shielding property, combustion characteristics, fire resistance, thermal and mechanical properties. The neutron shielding ability of the shielding materials is estimated to be better than that of foreign's shielding material, NS-4-FR, due to higher hydrogen atomic density. Other properties of the shielding materials are as follows: Onset temperatures; $267{\sim}270^{\circ}C$, thermal conductivities; $0.62{\sim}0.72W/m{\cdot}K$, combustion characteristics; <$800^{\circ}C$, ATB(average time of burning); <5sec, AEB(average extent of burning) ; <5mm, tensile strengths; $2.3{\sim}3.0kg/mm^2$, compressive strengths; $5.3{\sim}13.3kg/mm^2$, flexural strengths; $4.4{\sim}5.4kg/mm^2$.

In this studies, SCR reaction activity and SO2 durability enhancement study on manufacturing conditions of the V/TiO2 catalyst was carried out for the removal of nitrogen oxides generated in the combustion furnace. The catalysts are characterized by XPS, Raman, H2-TPR and SO2-TPD. When the vanadium was contained of 2 wt%, it showed excellent SO2 durability and catalytic activity. and When the tungsten is added as a promotor, the enhancement of reducing ability at a low temperature and reduction of SO2 adsorption capacity improved the reaction activity and SO2 durability. V/W/TiO2 are prepared by the lower pH of vanadium solution, vanadium was highly dispersed on the surface and inhibited the formation of crystalline V2O5. in addition, it was confirmed that this catalyst can be used as excellent resistance to high concentration of CO in the combustion furnace.
In general, fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) wastes are simply buried or burned. Landfill brings about a permanent contamination of soil due to the inability of FRP to decompose and incineration causes an issue of generating toxic gases and dusts. There have been several ways to treat the FRP wastes such as landfill, incineration, chemical recycling, material recycling and the utilization of energy from combustion. Most methods excluding material recycling are known to have critical limitations in economic, technical and environmental manners. However it is known that material recycling is most desirable among the methods handling FRP wastes. In this study, to investigate the purpose of feasibility of material recycling, various bulk molding compound (BMC) specimens were prepared with the various contents of unsaturated polyester resin binder (25, 30, 35 wt%) and the various replacement ratios of FRP wastes powder (0, 25, 50, 75, 100 wt%) substituted for filler. To evaluate the physical properties BMC specimens, various tests such as tensile strength, flexural strength, impact strength, hot water resistance and SEM imaging were conducted. As a results, mechanical strengths decreased with an increase of replacement ratio of FRP waste powder and physical properties of BMC specimens were deteriorated in the hot water resistance. The fluidity of BMC with more than 50 wt% of the replacement ratio of FRP wastes powder decreased remarkably, causing a problem in the BMC composite.
New neutron shielding materials, KNS-201, KNS-301 and KNS-601 have been fabricated to be used for radioactive material shipping and storage cask. The base materials are a modified and a hydrogenated bisphenol- A type and novolac type epoxy resin, and aluminium hydroxide and boron carbide are added. These shielding materials offer good fluidity at processing, which makes it possible to form this resin shield into complicated geometric shapes such as radioactive material shipping and storage cask. Several measurements were made for the shielding materials to evaluate the thermal and mechanical properties and radiation resistance. The properties of the shielding materials are as follows: onset temperatures 2S7~28$0^{\circ}C$, thermal conductivities 0.9S~1.14W/m. K, thermal expansion coefficients 0.77~1.26x$10_{-6}{\circ}C_{-1}$, combustion characteristics < 80$0^{\circ}C$, ATB(average time of burning) < 5sec, AEB(average extent of burning) < 5mm, tensile strengths 2.5~3.2kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$, compressive strengths 13.2~1S.2kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$, flexural strengths 5.2 -6.4kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$. In general, the concerned properties of KNS-201, KNS-301 and KNS-601 were revealed to be better than those of NS-4- FR. foreign neutron shielding material. It is also observed that the radiation resistance of KNS- 601 was better than those of KNS-201 and KNS-301.

The distribution of the combined heat and power system is active as a solution to the instability of energy supply and environmental pollution caused by continuous industrial development. In Korea, the safety standards for combined heat and power system using a gas engine are insufficient therefore the study on this is needed. In this study, the safety performance and structural/material assessment items of domestic and international standards applied to the combined heat and power system were analyzed to carry out a standardization study on safety performance applicable to 20 kW gas engine combined heat and power system. In addition, the safety performance assessment (plan) of the gas engine combined heat and power system was derived by performing risk analysis and risk assessment using HAZOP. Assessment items include engine ignition systems related to safety performance, piping tight performance, watering and temperature rise performance, combustion performance, electrical efficiency, thermal efficiency, overall efficiency and humidity performance. Gas and water pipes, gas control and shut-off valves, durability, heat resistance, and cold resistance of metal or non-metallic materials related to the structure and materials of the gas engine combined heat and power systems.

This study was carried out to improve the performance of heat recovery device attached to exhaust gas flue connected to combustion chamber of greenhouse heating system. Three different units were prepared for the comparison of heat recovery performance; AB-type(control unit) is exactly the same with the typical one fabricated for previous study of analyzing heat recovery performance in greenhouse heating system, other two types(C-type and D-type) modified from the control unit are different in the aspects of airflow direction(U-turn airflow) and pipe arrangement. The results are summarized as follows; 1. In the case of Type-AB, when considering the initial cost and current electricity fee required for system operation, it is expected that one or two years at most would be enough to return the whole cost invested. 2. Type-C and Type-D, basically different with Type-AB in the aspect of airflow pattern, are not sensitive to the change of blower capacity with higher than $25\;m^{3}/min$. Therefore, heat recovery performance was not improved so significantly with the increment of blower capacity. This is assumed to be that air flow resistance in high air capacity reduces the heat exchange rate as well. Never the less, compared with control unit, resultant heat recovery rate in Type-C and Type-D were improved by about 5% and 13%, respectively. 3. Desirable blower capacity for these heat recovery units experimented are expected to be about $25\;m^{3}/min$, and at the proper blower capacity, U-turn airflow units showed better heat recovery performance than control unit. But, without regard to the type of heat recovery unit, it is recommended that comprehensive consideration of system's physical factors such as pipe arrangement density, unit pipe length and pipe thickness, etc., are required for the optimization of heat recovery system in the aspects of not only energy conservation but economic system design.

Thermal analyses have been performed to study the effect of location of fuel ring and thermal barrier coatings in regenerative cooling channels in a full-scale combustor. For the effective cooling, the fuel ring has better be installed near axial location of the low expansion ratio and low heat flux, and branching of cooling channels is preferable. Also, the radiative cooled nozzle extension is thought to be reasonable for the cooling of combustor walls. Among the possible coatings, $Y_2O_3$ stabilized $ZrO_2$ coating and Ni/Cr coating have been adopted. Compared with Ni/Cr coating which has high oxidation resistance, $Y_2O_3$ stabilized $ZrO_2$ coating, one of ceramic coatings is found to be much effective to sustain the thermal survivability of combustion walls.

Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites are used extensively in aerospace, marine, automotive, infrastructure, chemical processing and sporting good applications. A concern with using FRP composites in some engineering structures is their high flammability and poor fire resistance In this research, material properties of FRP composites at increasingly high temperatures was measured and verified. The obtained mechanical properties of FRP composites were performed according to ASTM D3039/D3039M and tested to a wide range of heat conditions with temperatures from Room-temp. to 300 for times up to 30 min. It is found that the mechanical properties of FRP composites dropped with increasing heat or temperature. The reduction to the properties was due mainly to thermal degradation and combustion of the polymer matrix.

The thermal barrier coating (TBC) for inner wall of liquid-fuel rocket combustor consists of NiCrAlY as bonding layer and $ZrO_2$ as a top layer. In most case, the plasma spray coating is used for TBC process and this process has inherent possibility of cracking due to large difference in thermal expansion coefficients among bonding layer, top layer and metal substrate. In this paper, we suggest crack-free TBC process by using a precise electrodeposition technique. Electrodeposited Ni-P/Cr double layer has similar thermal expansion coefficient to the Cu alloy substrate resulting in superior thermal barrier performance and high temperature oxidation resistance. We studied the effects of phosphorous concentrations (2.12 wt%, 6.97 wt%, and 10.53 wt%) on the annealing behavior ($750^{\circ}C$) of Ni-P samples and Cr double layered electrodeposits. Annealing temperature was simulated by combustion test condition. Also, we conducted SEM/EDS and XRD analysis for Ni-P/Cr samples. The results showed that the band layers between Ni-P and Cr are Ni and Cr, and has no formed with heat treatment. These band layers were solid solution of Cr and Ni which is formed by interdiffusion of both alloy elements. In addition, the P was not found in it. The thickness of band layer was increased with increasing annealing time. We expected that the band layer can improve the adhesion between Cr and Ni-P.
To investigate relative flammability in flaming combustion among 10 softwoods and 10 hardwoods, oxygen indices were determined for flat-grained sapwoods through Up and Down method following oxygen index test of ASTM D 2863-77. Oxygen index ranged from 21.0 for Pinus strobus to 28.2 for Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii in softwoods and from 20.7 for Populus davidiana to 27.6 for Quercus acntissima in hardwoods, which indicates Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii and Quercus acutissima being ranked first in inflammability and Pinus strobus and Populus davidiana being the least in fire resistance by softwood and hardwood because highly flammable materials are likely to have a low oxygen index.
