An Experimental Study on the Mechanical Properties of Ductile Outline Form and Fire Resistance of High Strength RC Column (고인성 외곽 거푸집의 역학성능 및 이를 활용한 고강도 RC기둥의 내화성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • With recent trend in domestic and global market requiring architectures' conversion into skyscrapers seasoned with the features of landmarks, structural problems in relation with explosive spatting during fire emergencies are arising as controversial issues. Accordingly, many productive researches have been made in relation to the reinforcement techniques for improving fire resistance and the number of applications in the field is gradually increasing. In this study, a ductile outline form using ECC (Engineered Cementations Composites) was made with improvements on the structure and fire resistance to examine its applicability. Also, currently in Japan, the number of studies and applications is increasing focusing on reduction of construction time and improvement of workability with application of Half-PCa method. However, using such method of construction, large structural members decrease the utilization of space and architecture-wise, there is a disadvantage of the weight increase. Therefore, in such context, it would be worth reducing the weight of the structural members by reducing the size using ECC. In addition, its excellent pseudo strain-hardening due to fiber may have great effects on seismic designs. In the mean time, this study planned 3 equal conditions for mix water, PVA fiber and additives excluding binder and refractory to evaluate the mechanical properties of resistance against pressure and internal force. Finally, an evaluation was executed on the fire resistance of the newly made ductile outline form. As a result, from ECC-I to ECC-III, all showed excellent mechanical properties due to pseudo strain-hardening and in the fire resistance test conducted with ISO 834 heating curve, most of them tended to be in the range of the reference temperature (538℃-180min), so there was no occurrence of any explosive spatting.

Environmental Characteristics of Waste Tire for Use as Soil Reinforcement (지반보강재로서 폐타이어 사용에 따른 환경영향 분석)

  • This paper presents an experimental results on the environmental characteristics of waste tire. Experimental program includes a set of laboratory leaching tests and field pilot test for leachate analysis. Laboratory tests were conducted to illustrate how properties such as TOC, pH, turbidity and Zn change with tire sizes and drain conditions. In field pilot test, water samples were collected form a drainage system installed below the tire-reinforced retaining wall and analyzed for chemical quality. Laboratory leaching tests performed on various particle sizes of waste tire indicated that as tire size is increased, the concentration of leachate is decreased. In continuous flow column tests, the concentration of leachate decreased with the number of exposure periods or pore volumes flushed through the waste tire. However, during pause flow column tests, the concentration of leachates were increased with time. Field monitoring of effluent indicated that no significant adverse effects on ground water quality had occurred over a period of 12 months.

Conservation Treatment and Scientific Investigation of Daehye Bogakseonsaseo (Letters of Master Bogak) in the Goryeo Dynasty (고려시대 대혜보각선사서의 보존처리 및 과학적 조사)

  • Daehye Bogakseonsaseo (Letters of Master Bogak) in the possession of the National Museum of Korea is a Goryeo-era book produced in 1387, which was acquired in 2005 in a state of severe general damage. Subsequently, its production techniques and materials were examined using bibliographical characteristics and scientific analysis, based on which an overall conservation treatment was carried out. Janghwang(mounting) in bibliographical characteristics is a five-hole-stitch binding (五針眼線裝本), a single-lined rectangular box (四周單邊), and no column lines. The conservation treatment was examined in two aspects: the basic form and the conservation treatment process. The book is composed of the outer cover, original cover, end paper, and inner paper of 0.04-0.07mm thick, which is significantly thinner than general book paper. The conservation treatment was applied after the entire book was disassembled, based on the assessment that both the cover and the inner sheets of paper were in a dire condition due to deterioration. The conservation treatment comprised of the process of disassembly, cleaning, reinforcement of defective parts, scanning, and binding, with a paulownia box made for its storage. At the time of disassembly, samples were made for the inner sheets and the book string in order to conduct fiber identification. The fibers were identified using Safranin and C-stains. Safranin staining identified a thick fiber wall, in addition to cross-marking, dislocation, and transparent membranes. C-stain staining identified the fiber as mulberry, given the dark red residue. The book strap has a flat, circular cross-section, and was identified as cotton fiber, since a lumen was observed in the center.

Examination of Lateral Torsional Bucling Strength by Increasing the Warping Strength of I-Section Plate Girder with Concrete Filled Half Pipe Stiffener (콘크리트 충전 반원기둥보강재가 적용된 플레이트 거더의 뒤틀림 강도)

  • Lateral torsional buckling causessafety accidentssuch as collapse accidents during erection. Therefore, anaccurate safety designshould be conducted. Lateral torsional buckling canbe prevented by reinforcing the end orreducing the unbraced length. The method ofreducing the unbraced length by installing a crossframe has high material and installation costs and low maintenance performance.In addition, structuralsafety may be deteriorated due to cracks. The end reinforcement method using Concrete Filled Half Pipe Stiffeneris a method ofreinforcing the end of a plate girder using a stiffenerin the form of a semi-circular column. This method increasesthewarping strength ofthe girder and increasesthe lateral torsional buckling strength.In thisstudy, the effect ofincreasing the warping strengthof plate girders with concrete filled half pipe stiffeners was confirmed. To verify the effect, the results ofthe designequationand the finite element analysis were compared and verified through a experiment. As a result, the plate girderwithCFHPS increased thewarping strengthand confirmed that the lateral torsional buckling strength was increased.
