This study investigated to the properties of structural behaviors through a series of experiment with the key parameter, such as diameter-to-thickness(D/t) ratio, selenderness ratio of steel t~ube and strength of concrete under loading condition simple confined concrete by steel tube as a fundmental study on adaptability with structural members in high-rise building. The obtained results are sumnarised as follow. (1) The fracture mode of confined concrete was presented digonal tension fracture in the direction of $45^{\circ}$ with compression failure at the end of specimen in stub column, but the fracture mode of long column was assumed an aspect of bending fracture transversely. (2) The deformation capacity and ductility effect was increased by confine steel tube for concrete. (3) 'The emprical formula to predict the ultimate capacity of confined concrete by steel tube and concrete filled steel tube column using restraint of concrete considered D / t ratio, selenderness ratio of steel tube anti strength of' concrete were proposed.
The existing CFT columns present the deterioration in confining effect after the yield of steel tube, local buckling and the deterioration in load capacity. If lateral load such as earthquake load is applied to CFT columns, strong shearing force and moment are generated at the lower part of the columns and local buckling appears at the column. In this study, axial compression test and beam-column test were conducted for existing CFT square column specimens and those reinforced with carbon fiber sheets (CFS). The variables for axial compression test were width-thickness ratio and the number of CFS layers and those for beamcolumn test were concrete strength and the number of CFS layers. The results of the compression test showed that local buckling was delayed and maximum load capacity improved slightly as the number of layers increased. The specimens' ductility capacity improved due to the additional confinement by carbon fiber sheets which delayed local buckling. In the beam-column test, maximum load capacity improved slightly as the number of CFS layers increased. However, ductility capacity improved greatly as the increased number of CFS layers delayed the local buckling at the lower part of the columns. It was observed that the CFT structure reinforced with carbon fiber sheets controlled the local buckling at columns and thus improved seismic performance. Consequently, it was deduced that the confinement of CFT columns by carbon fiber sheets suggested in this study would be widely used for reinforcing CFT columns.

This paper reports on experiments addressing the buckling and collapse behavior of an innovative built-up cold-formed steel (CFS) columns. The built-up column consists of four individual CFS lipped channels, two of them placed back-to-back at the web using two self-drilling screw fasteners at specified spacing along the column length, while the other two channels were connected flange-to-flange using one self-drilling screw fastener at specified spacing along the column length. In total, 12 experimental tests are reported, covering a wide range of column lengths from stub to slender columns. The initial geometric imperfections and material properties were determined for all test specimens. The effect of screw spacing, load-versus axial shortening behaviour and buckling modes for different lengths and screw spacing were investigated. Nonlinear finite element (FE) models were also developed, which included material nonlinearities and initial geometric imperfections. The FE models were validated against the experimental results, both in terms of axial capacity and failure modes of built-up CFS columns. Furthermore, using the validated FE models, a parametric study was conducted which comprises 324 models to investigate the effect of screw fastener spacing, thicknesses and wide range of lengths on axial capacity of back-to-back and flange-to-flange built-up CFS channel sections. Using both the experimental and FE results, it is shown that design in accordance with the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and Australia/New Zealand (AS/NZS) standards is slightly conservative by 6% on average, while determining the axial capacity of back-to-back and flange-to-flange built-up CFS channel sections.

Five concrete-encased steel columns using high-strength steel($f_{ys}$=801MPa) and high-strength concrete($f_{ck}$=97.7MPa) were tested to investigate the eccentric axial load-displacement relationship. Test parameters included the type, yield strength, and spacing of lateral reinforcement, and also the eccentricity of axial load. To analyze the behavior of the column specimens, the nonlinear sectional analysis using strain-compatibility and confinement effect was performed. To examine the applicability of existing design codes for the composite sections using high-strength materials, the test results were also compared with the predictions by the nonlinear analysis and the design codes. The confinement effect of lateral reinforcement increased the ductility of concrete, and the moment capacity of the column specimens increased with the ductility of concrete. The prediction by the nonlinear analysis gave good agreement with the test results. On the other hand, the ACI 318 neglecting lateral confinement effect underestimated the strength of the column specimens, and the Eurocode 4 using complete plastic capacity of steel section overestimated.
As a series of studies to clarify clonorchicidal substances in body surface mucus of some freshwater fishes, the substance in the epidermal mucus of Cyprinus carpio was isolated by silica gel column and thin layer chromatography and analysed for its chemical nature. Wormicidal trial was done in vitro, and the results obtained are summarized as follows: The mucus was extracted by ethyl ether and separated into 4 fractions by column chromatography using benzene as solvent. The second fraction with yellowish red colour among them showed the strongest clonorchicidal effect. The yellowish red fraction obtained by column chromatography was then fractionated into 6 spots by thin layer chromatography with petrol/ etherjchloroform (30/70, v/v), and the Rf. 0.714 spot among the 6 spots showed the strongest effect. The Rf. 0.714 spot was further fractionated into 6 spots by thin layer chromatography with benzene/acetone (90/10, vlv), and the Rf. 0.800 spot among the later 6 spots revealed the strongest effect. The Rf. 0.800 spot was chromatographed on column with benzene and 2 fractions were obtained. The second fraction of light brown colour represented the final purified fraction. By these Purification Procedures, clonorchicidal substance was Purified 15-fold with 0.035 yield from the mucus of C. carpio, and 10mg of the final fraction killed the cercaria in 26 min, the metacercaria in 115 min, and the adult in 443 min. Infra red and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometric analysis of the purified substance revealed that the substance belongs to an ethyl ester of unsaturated fatty acid with 2 double bonds, 15 methylene groups and 1 methyl group.

The necessity of a high-rise building in big cities gave a new problem to structural engineers. The shortening effect of vertical members needs special considerstion in the desigh and construction of high-rise buildings. The shortening of each column transfers load to nonstructural members such as partitions, cladding, and M/E systems which are not designed to carry gravity loads. Also, the slabs and beams will tilt due to the cumulative differential shortening of adjacent vertical members. The main purpose of estimating the total shortening of vertical structural members is to compensate the differential shortening between adjacent members. This paper presents the structural effect of differential shortening between in main structural members. Lateral earthquake load is applied to the 52 story concrete structure which has an initial vertical displacement due to the gravity load. Shortening amount for each vertical member was estimated using the computerized column shortening software. Comparison of stresses between the shortening corrected structure and the uncorrecated structure due to earthquake load was discussed.
In order to estimate volume transport by upwelling for single artificial seamount, same shape and size of artificial seamount already deployed was applied to numerical experiment. The result showed that strong upwelling appeared at front while took place downwelling at rear. The strongest upwelling existed at the top of the artificial seamount. Volume transport by upwelling was computed as 785 m3/s. Column arrangement was applied to two artificial seamount in three cases; case 1) no clearance, case 2) sixty-five meters of clearance as half of artificial seamount's length, and case 3) hundred-thirty meters of clearance as an artificial seamount's length. All cases of column arrangements showed more upwelling volume transport than that of single seamount. Particularly, the case of no clearance calculated as 106% and appeared the most upwelling effect comparing to two other cases. Row arrangement was also applied to two artificial seamount in three cases; case 4) no clearance, case 5) forty meters of clearance as an artificial seamount's width, and case 6) eighty meters of clearance as twice of artificial seamount's width. Upwelling volume transport in case 4 increased 48% than the case of single seamount. Other two cases of 5 and 6 were estimated as 97% increased and more effective than case 4. According to the case experiments, column arrangements show more upwelling volume transport than that of row arrangements. In cases of column arrangements, with decreasing clearance between two seamount, the effect increases while showing maximum value at clearance zero. In cases of row arrangements, on the contrary, with decreasing clearance between two seamount, the effect decreases while showing minimum value at clearance zero. Since simple barotropic condition was considered for this study, further study is necessary by considering baroclinic condition to get close to reality. In conclusion, in deploying artificial seamount, optimal arrangement should be well designed to enhance primary and secondary productivity and to increase the diversity of species as well as reducing time and space.
A close form solution of the maximum deflection for cracked columns with rectangular cross-sections was developed and thus the elastic buckling behavior and ultimate bearing capacity were studied analytically. First, taking into account the effect of the crack in the potential energy of elastic systems, a trigonometric series solution for the elastic deflection equation of an arbitrary crack position was derived by use of the Rayleigh-Ritz energy method and an analytical expression of the maximum deflection was obtained. By comparison with the rotational spring model (Okamura et al. 1969) and the equivalent stiffness method (Sinha et al. 2002), the advantages of the present solution are that there are few assumed conditions and the effect of axial compression on crack closure was considered. Second, based on the above solutions, the equilibrium paths of the elastic buckling were analytically described for cracked columns subjected to both axial and eccentric compressive load. Finally, as examples, the influence of crack depth, load eccentricity and column slenderness on the elastic buckling behavior was investigated in the case of a rectangular column with a single-edge crack. The relationship of the load capacity of the column with respect to crack depth and eccentricity or slenderness was also illustrated. The analytical and numerical results from the examples show that there are three kinds of collapse mechanisms for the various states of cracking, eccentricity and slenderness. These are the bifurcation for axial compression, the limit point instability for the condition of the deeper crack and lighter eccentricity and the fracture for higher eccentricity. As a result, the conception of critical transition eccentricity $(e/h)_c$, from limit-point buckling to fracture failure, was proposed and the critical values of $(e/h)_c$ were numerically determined for various eccentricities, crack depths and slenderness.

Different from the previous studies which investigated seismic P-$\Delta$ effect in slender columns though comparison of response spectra according to stability coefficients obtained from the analyses based on the assumed moment-curvature relationship, the axial force and P-$\Delta$ effect in RC columns are investigated on the basis of the layered section method which can effectively consider the changes of stiffness and yield strength due to the application of axial force in RC members. Practical ranges of slenderness and stability coefficient are assumed, and sixty sets of horizontal/vertical earthquake inputs are used in the analysis. From the parametric study, it is noted that the maximum deformation of the slender RC column is hardly affected by P-$\Delta$ effect or vortical earthquake but dominantly affected by the applied axial force. Therefore, it can be concluded that no additional consideration for the P-$\Delta$ effect and vortical earthquake is required in the seismic design of a slender RC column if the axial force effect is taken into account in the analysis and design procedures.
To efficiently separate a protein stimulating sperm swim-up migration and movement from follicular proteins, the effect of paper chromatography and liquid chromatography with reverse phase column and superose column on protein separation was examined. And the results obtained were as follows; 1. The band component that was separated with paper chromatography stimulated sperm migration and movement depending on its additional levels. Especially, band I component significantly increased sperm migration. But, all components of bands 1, 2 and 3 showed lower sperm migration and movement, compared to follicular fluid at the same additional level. 2. Among the components separated from follicular protein of 2~5mm follicles with reverse phase column ($\mu$RPC), components at retention time (RT) of 3.33, 7.00, 13.87, and 16.6A minutes stimulated sperm migration within a limited range. 3. All components separated from follicular protein of 10mm follicles with $\mu$RPC column didn't stimulate sperm migration and movement. 4. Among the components separated from follicular protein of 2~5m follicles with superose column, components at retention volume (RV) of 1.35 and 0.82 ml significantly stimulated sperm migration and movement. In conclusion, protein components stimulating sperm migration and movement were efficiently separated with superose column in Smart system. Especially, components of RV 1.35 and RV0.82 stimulated sperm swim-up separation.
