As the demand for large flexible displays such as tablet computers continues to rise, there is an increasing need for cost-efficient colorless and optically transparent polyimide film that can meet the desired performance, particularly optical transmittance. In this study, we investigated a detailed procedure for achieving optimal optical transmittance using two different combinations of monomers: 6FDA+BAPB and 6FDA+BPA+TFDB. We employed a design of experiment method to systematically synthesize polymers, allowing for the optimization of optical transmittance. In addition, we were able to achieve uniform thickness in the films by using a doctor blade. By comparing the price and optical transmittance of four different monomer combinations, we obtained fundamental data on the production of polyimide films that can be customized to meet the specific price and performance requirements of manufacturers. This approach enables users to select the most suitable polyimide film based on their desired price and performance parameters while achieving optimal optical transmittance.
A series of polyimide was prepared by reacting 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) as the anhydride monomer and 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzidine (TFB), 2,2'-bis(3-aminophenyl)hexafluoropropane (BAFP), 2,2'-bis(3- amino- 4-methylphenyl) hexafluoropropane (BAMF), bis(3-aminophenyl)sulfone (APS), p-xylyenediamine (p-XDA), or m-xylyenediamine (m-XDA) as the amine monomer in N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc). Colorless and transparent polyimide (PI) films were obtained by casting the poly(amic acid)s (PAAs) solution at various heat treatment temperatures. The thermal properties of the PI films were examined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and thermomechanical analysis (TMA) and the mechanical properties were investigated using universal tensile machine (UTM), Their optical transparencies were also investigated using ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis.) spectrophotometry and colorimetry. The yellow index (YI) and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) values of all PIs were in the range 0.98~2.76 and 25.73~55.23 $ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively.

As various flexible display products are released, the demand for high-performance colorless and transparent polyimide (CPI) film is continuously increasing. The primary purpose of this study is to establish a systematic procedure for optimizing the optical performance of CPI films by applying the response surface method. After selecting three key factors (monomer type, stirring time for varnish synthesis, and maximum temperature of vacuum furnace for film production) affecting optical performance based on experiences and references, CPI films were manufactured according to the experimental sequence designed by the central composite design, and then the yellowness index (YI) and optical transmittance (Tr) of the films were measured. When producing a CPI film by pouring varnish into a petri dish, the change in optical properties according to thickness should be considered, and there was a meaningful linear relationship between YI and Tr. The species of monomer and the maximum temperature were the critical factors that had an influence on YI and Tr, respectively. It is expected that the procedure proposed in this study can serve as a starting point for CPI film optimization studies considering the other factors that were not considered and responses such as thermal properties.

ZnO-based transparent conductive films have been widely studied to achieve high performance optoelectronic devices such as next generation flexible and transparent display systems. In order to achieve a transparent flexible ZnO-based device, a low temperature growth technique using a flexible polymer substrate is required. In this work, high quality flexible ZnO films were grown on colorless polyimide substrate using atomic layer deposition (ALD). Transparent ZnO films grown from 80 to 200℃ were fabricated with a metal-semiconductor-metal structure photodetectors (PDs). As the growth temperature of ZnO film increases, the photocurrent of UV PDs increases, while the sensitivity of that decreases. In addition, it is found that the response times of the PDs become shorter as the growth temperature increases. Based on these results, we suggest that high-quality ZnO film can be grown below 200℃ in an atomic layer deposition system, and can be applied to transparent and flexible UV PDs with very fast response time and high photocurrent.
Commercial edible soybean oil was introduced into plastic containers. Colorless transparent (control), red transparent, green transparent cellophane films and, also, colorless transparent cellophane films coated respectively with Cemedine C, Cemedine C containing 10% pyridine, benzophenone, and p-aminobenzoic acid were prepared, and the % transmittance of each film to lights at U.V. and visible regions were measured. The containers were covered with the films and irradiated simultaneously with direct sunlight for 4.5 hours daily. The peroxide values of the oils in the plastic containers were determined at regular intervals. The effects of the Alms on the PV development of the oils were compared with that of the control, i.e., the colorless transparent films. The red and green films showed strong retarding effects ell the PV development. The red films showed a slightly stronger effect than the green ones. The colorless transparent films coated with Cemedine C showed an appreciable retarding effect. The films had absorbed the lights at the U.V. and visible regions considerably. The pyridine and benzophenone coated films lost their retarding effects after 10 and 4 days respectively. The p- aminobenzoic acid coated films showed a considerable retarding effect throughout the experimental period. The films had absorbed the lights strongly .As a whole, the retarding effects of the films on the PV development were, in decreasing order. as follows; Red> Green> p-Aminobenzoic acid coated > Cemedine Ccoated) Control > Pyridine coated > Benz ophenone coated
A series of poly(amic acid)s(PAAs) was prepared by reacting 4,4'-(4,4'-isopropylidenediphenoxy) bis(phthalic anhydride)(BPADA) as the anhydride monomer and 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl) benzidine (TFB), bis(3-aminophenyl)sulfone (APS), 4,4'-methylenebis-(2-methylcyclohexylamine) (MMCA), or bis[4-(3-aminophenoxy) phenyl] sulfone (BAPS) as the amine monomer with 5 mol% melamine in N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc). Colorless and transparent polyimide (PI) films were obtained by casting the PAAs at various heat treatment temperatures. The thermo-mechanical properties and optical transparency of the PI films were investigated. The thermal properties of the PI films were examined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and thermomechanical analysis (TMA), and their optical transparency were measured by spectrophotometry. The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and yellow index (YI) values of all samples were in the range of $48.53-64.24ppm/^{\circ}C$ and < 3.0, respectively.
${Sr_{1-x}Ba_xNb_2O_6$(SBN) have been obtained in Pt crucible by melting and cooling in air atmosphere. Some SBNs being at the bottom of the crucible are black and transparent, and the other SBNs colorless. The black SBN became to be colorless by oxidation heat treatment $1,300^{\circ}C$ for 4 h, Curie temperature is changed by colorless change of black SBN. The reason seems to be $Nb^{5+}$ oxidation of some $Nb^{4+}$ ions in SBN or effect of unknown impurities. Diffused Phase Transition (DPT) was appeared during heating and cooling process. Various sintered SBN ceramics specimen showed relaxor characteristics.
Transparent and colorless melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) resins make it difficult to identify the area of wood failure percentage (WFP) in the fracture surface of bonded wood specimens. Therefore, in this study, we develop a method of measuring WFP after the adhesion strength measurement of MUF resins under shear stress. The fractured wood surface of b lock shear strength (BSS) specimens bonded with cold-setting MUF resins at three melamine contents (20%, 30%, and 40%) was marked black, and then, WFP was accurately measured via image analysis. WFP values measured using this method consistently increased with BSS as the melamine content increased, showing the reliability of this new method. The results suggested that this new method is useful and reliable for measuring the WFP of the fracture surface of wood specimens bonded with colorless adhesives such as urea-formaldehyde, MUF, and melamine-formaldehyde resins.

Recently, Hanmi Gemological Institute & Laboratory (HGI) had an opportunity to examine 5 transparent synthetic moissanite. The round brilliants ranged from 0.93 to 0.96 ct and had a colorless, pink, yellow, blue, and red color. Advanced testing results, including Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy, identified all the specimens as synthetic moissanite. Under the microscope, all samples except the colorless were confirmed to be a synthetic moissanite coated with a colored film. EDXRF chemical analysis detected very weak X-ray fluorescence peak characteristics of Ca, Ti, and Co in the colored samples. These features were not detected in the colorless sample. Raman spectroscopy investigation was unable to detect the 1332 cm-1 (produced by sp3 bonding of carbon atoms) or the ~1550 cm-1 (produced by graphite-related sp2 bonding) peak in the colorless sample. The SEM image of the colorless sample showed no indication of a coating. The TEM image of the colorless sample revealed the presence of a 3~8 nm thick layer on the moissanite. Moreover, from the corresponding STEM Z-contrast image combined with the energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) line profiles and EDX elemental maps, this layer was estimated to be carbon, silicon and oxygen.

We describe a colorless, transparent polyimide films for plastic display substrate which should have heat resistance, roll-to-roll processability and low CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) property. Colorless polyimides were synthesized from 3,3',4,4'-oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA) 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) and diamines such as sulfonyldianiline, aminophenoxybenzene (TPE-p, TPE-q, TPE-r) and bis[4-(3-aminophen oxy)phenyl] sulfone (m-BAPS). Their optical properties were measured by UV spectrophotometer, colormeter and hazemeter. We prepared polyimide/organophilic layered silicate nanocomposite to improve dimension stability. These colorless polyimide films showed UV transmittance by the level upper $89\%$, at 440 nm and excellent optical property having the value under yellow index (YI)=7. In addition, polyimide nanocomposite films also showed an improvement of CTE value as decreased according to the amount of layered silicate contents.
