The purpose of this study was to closely examine the history of glasses and their cases used in the middle and late of Joseon Dynasty and identify inherent quality of our traditional glasses cases through color analyses of glasses cases' material and shape. While theoretical examination was conducted based on the literatures of glasses and their cases that firstly appeared in around Japanese Invasion (Imjin war) of Korea in 1592, practical analyses were demonstrated on photos of glasses cases used in the middle and late of Joseon Dynasty collected from both museum pieces and the internet which were grouped into wood, fabric, paper, sharkskin, hawksbill and cow's horn in accordance with their materials. 623 color samples were abstracted from collected 159 glasses cases and quantity analyses on each material were performed respectively. Abstracted representative colors based on the result of color analyses were classified into the main materials and accessories' color scheme. The result of this study are as follow: firstly, both Yellow and Yellow Red were mostly used in main materials. In Fabric case's colors were widely used in embroidery and in animal matter material cases such as sharkskin, hawksbill and cow's horn, which can be used as itself or dyed, Green Yellow shown in high frequency. Secondly, accessories were analyzed into similarity coloration with main materials. From this finding, it turns out that our traditional cases have characteristic of similarity coloration between main materials and accessories. Red Purple and Purple Blue in high frequency in accessories used as an accent color. Finally, based on the analysis of hue and tone, while the middle and low value colors shown in very high frequency, the high-chroma colors hardly shown.

Extracting skin color is significant in adult image detection. However, conventional methods still have essential problems in extracting skin color. That is, colors of human skins are basically not the same because of individual skin difference or difference races. Moreover, skin regions of images may not have identical color due to makeup, different cameras used, etc. Therefore, most of the existing methods use predefined skin color models. To resolve these problems, in this paper, we propose a new adult image detection method that robustly segments skin areas with an input image-adapted skin color distribution model, and verifies if the segmented skin regions contain naked bodies by fusing several representative features through a neural network scheme. Experimental results show that our method outperforms others through various experiments. We expect that the suggested method will be useful in many applications such as face detection and objectionable image filtering.
In this paper, we have designed a region-based image retrieval system, FRIP(Finding Region In the Pictures). This system includes a robust image segmentation scheme using color and texture direction and retrieval scheme based on features of each region. For image segmentation, by using a circular filter, we can protect the boundary of round object and merge stripes or spots of objects into body region. It also combines scaled and shifted color coordinate and texture direction. After image segmentation, in order to improve the storage management effectively and reduce the computation time, we extract compact features from each region and store as index. For user interface, by the user specified constraints such as color-care / don't care. scale-care / dont care, shape-care / dont care and location-care / dont care, the overal/ matching score is estimated and the top Ie nearest images are reported in the ascending order of the final score.
Most video coding systems use YCbCr color space for their inputs, but RGB space is more preferred in the field of high fidelity video because the compression gain from YCbCr becomes disappeared in the high quality operation region. In order to improve the coding performance of RGB video signal, this paper presents an adaptive frequency-selective weighted prediction algorithm. Based on the sign agreement and the strength of frequency-domain correlation of residual color planes, the proposed scheme adaptively selects the frequency elements as well as the corresponding prediction weights for better utilization of inter-plane correlation of RGB signal. Experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm improves the coding gain of around 13% bitrate reduction, on average, compared to the common mode of 4:4:4 video coding in the state-of-the-art video compression standard, H.264/AVC.

Automatic tracking of vehicles is important to accurately estimate the vehicle speeds in video-based traffic measurement systems and to analyze traffic flows for road construction. This paper proposes a carefully designed rule-based tracking scheme that considers the possible cases that can be appeared in the video-based vehicle racking. The proposed scheme is fast and outperforms the Mean-Shift scheme in terms of accuracy. The accuracy and the speed of the scheme would be increased by combining it with color-based searching and Kalman filters.
Moving object segmentation is an essential technique for various video surveillance applications. The result of moving object segmentation often contains shadow regions caused by the color difference of shadow pixels. Hence, moving object segmentation is usually followed by a shadow elimination process to remove the false detection results. The common assumption adopted in previous works is that, under the illumination variation, the value of chromaticity components are preserved while the value of intensity component is changed. Hence, color transforms which separates luminance component and chromaticity component are usually utilized to remove shadow pixels. In this paper, various color spaces (YCbCr, HSI, normalized rgb, Yxy, Lab, c1c2c3) are examined to find the most appropriate color space for shadow elimination. So far, there have been some research efforts to compare the influence of various color spaces for shadow elimination. However, previous efforts are somewhat insufficient to compare the color distortions under illumination change in diverse color spaces, since they used a specific shadow elimination scheme or different thresholds for different color spaces. In this paper, to relieve the limitations of previous works, (1) the amount of gradients in shadow boundaries drawn to uniform colored regions are examined only for chromaticity components to compare the color distortion under illumination change and (2) the accuracy of background subtraction are analyzed via RoC curves to compare different color spaces without the problem of threshold level selection. Through experiments on real video sequences, YCbCr and normalized rgb color spaces showed good results for shadow elimination among various color spaces used for the experiments.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the interior color characteristics of elderly housing facilities in Korea. For this purpose, a filed survey was conducted between October 16 and October 25, 2003, visiting 10 elderly housing facilities. A three step analysis of the facilities was involved. First, floor, walls, ceiling, base boards and doors in common spaces were examined for the color scheme using the 'Pantone for Fashion and Home Color Guide' for each room. Measured Pantone numbers were converted to RGB color using 'Chooser 3.0 of Pantone, Inc.' Finally, the conversions were recorded as Munsell numbers. The results are as follows. First, the brightness used in elderly housing facilities ranges from high value to low value while the chroma ranges from the middle chroma to low chroma. The warm colors of Y and YR are mainly used, followed by GY and R. Second, the colors used for elderly housing facilities are found inter-related. For example, the main color in the lobby is also used for corridor and used again in dining room, library, and treatment room. Third, in terms of the color scheme, it is best help the elderly, who generally have lower recognition capability, by highlighting the distinction and attention by using the dearly distinctive accent color for the transition space, edge of the hallways or in front of the door to the units and having different color for each floor. But in most facilities except one or two, this consideration is ignored. Fourth, there is difference in color selection between elderly housing with low and high rental value. Only one facility, the most high priced one, has aggressive color arrangement, and the others show very little consideration of the elderly's needs.

By understanding physiological characters of plants and the environment, plant design should decide the relationship with other plants from the designer's curiosity of the plant's color, texture, form and other aspects. There are a traditional tendency that many designers put the plant's color ahead of other aspects. This study explores 4 gardens of Gertrude Jekyll's Munstead Wood, Vita Sackvill-West's Sissinghurst, Christopher Lloyd's Grest Dixter and Lawrence Johnston's Hidcote Manner. The flower border of Munstead is started with light grey and blue at the edge and it gets stronger colors like red and orange as the line comes to the middle. It is noticeable that white an blue colors were used unlike before. Sissinghurst made use of purple color which was very seldom used before and Dixter added orange to magenta color that was already there, giving a strong visual effect and through juxtaposition it could realize the wanted effect. A strong red border line was created in Hidcote Manner. Above mentioned designers arranged various colors so that visitors can experience different spacial senses according to observer's direction. In the cognitive space the main color and the secondary color arranged leading to the fact that the observer recognizes it as a whole. In plant design time means seasonal performance which influences the main color arrangement like gradation or contrast. Moreover, space determines the color's zone when it comes to plant design.
Pattern recognition is the study of how machines can observe the environment, learn to distinguish patterns of interest from their background, and make sound and reasonable decisions about the categories of the patterns. Color image consists of various color patterns. And most pattern recognition methods use the information of color which has been trained and extract the feature of the color. This thesis extracts adaptively specific color feature from images with several limited colors. Because the number of the color patterns is limited, the distribution of the color in the image is similar. But, when there are some noises and distortions in the image, its distribution can be various. Therefore we cannot extract specific color regions in the standard image that is well expressed in special color patterns to extract, and special color regions of the image to test. We suggest new method to reduce the error of recognition by extracting the specific color feature adaptively for images with the low distortion, and six test images with some degree of noises and distortion. We consequently found that proposed method shouws more accurate results than those of statistical pattern recognition.
Due to the development of modern society, desire for residence is not merely for the purpose of habitation. It's also used to represent the joy of living, the resident's emotional expressions, and social status. In order to express such desires, one of the most important factors used to portray them visually is the usage of color. When apartments are constructed, model houses are created to show potential tenants a sample house. The color scheme of those sample houses have been changed in accordance to the transition in the eras. Since 2000, construction companies have created their own apartment brand in order to create their own signature image. To achieve this signature image, one can alter the surface level and use other materials, and colors. I have researched the usage of colors out of the above. The criteria that need to be fulfilled to be a subject for my research are in the top 5 construction companies of the year 2010, within the metropolitan area, and open after 2009. As the result, all construction companies used colors Y and YR. An as accent colors on props such furniture and curtains, they used colors P, PB, and R. They were differences in color tones in each construction company and as the square footage increase, they used color contrasts. Hillstate and Raemian used darker shades in the larger houses. But the color tones YR and Y were used in all houses regardless of their size. E-world, Xi, and Prugio showed differences in shade and tone of colors regardless of size but rather depending on the locations of the apartments.
