In this paper, we propose a method that constructs a saliency map in which important regions are accurately specified and the colors of the regions are less influenced by the similar surrounding colors. Our method utilizes LBP(Local Binary Pattern) histogram information to compare and analyze texture information of surrounding regions in order to reduce the effect of color information. We extract the saliency of stereoscopic images by integrating a 2D saliency map with depth information of stereoscopic images. We then measure the distance between two different sizes of the LBP histograms that are generated from pixels. The distance we measure is texture difference between the surrounding regions. We then assign a saliency value according to the distance in LBP histogram. To evaluate our experimental results, we measure the F-measure compared to ground-truth by thresholding a saliency map at 0.8. The average F-Measure is 0.65 and our experimental results show improved performance in comparison with existing other saliency map extraction methods.
Depth-image-based rendering is generally used in real-time 2D-to-3D conversion for 3DTV. However, inaccurate depth maps cause flickering issues between image frames in a video sequence, resulting in eye fatigue while viewing 3DTV. To resolve this flickering issue, we propose a new 2D-to-3D conversion scheme based on fast and robust depth-map generation from a 2D video sequence. The proposed depth-map generation algorithm divides an input video sequence into several cuts using a color histogram. The initial depth of each cut is assigned based on a hypothesized depth-gradient model. The initial depth map of the current frame is refined using color and motion information. Thereafter, the depth map of the next frame is updated using the difference image to reduce depth flickering. The experimental results confirm that the proposed scheme performs real-time 2D-to-3D conversions effectively and reduces human eye fatigue.
This paper proposes a moving object extraction method using the contrast map and salient points. In order to make the contrast map, we generate three-feature maps such as luminance map, color map and directional map and extract salient points from an image. By using these features, we can decide the Attention Window(AW) location easily The purpose of the AW is to remove the useless regions in the image such as background as well as to reduce the amount of image processing. To create the exact location and flexible size of the AW, we use motion feature instead of pre-assumptions or heuristic parameters. After determining of the AW, we find the difference of edge to inner area from the AW. Then, we can extract horizontal candidate region and vortical candidate region. After finding both horizontal and vertical candidates, intersection regions through logical AND operation are further processed by morphological operations. The proposed algorithm has been applied to many video sequences which have static background like surveillance type of video sequences. The moving object was quite well segmented with accurate boundaries.
This paper proposes a method for generating dense depth map using information of color images and depth map generated based on lidar based on self-organizing map. The proposed depth map upsampling method consists of an initial depth prediction step for an area that has not been acquired from LiDAR and an initial depth filtering step. In the initial depth prediction step, stereo matching is performed on two color images to predict an initial depth value. In the depth map filtering step, in order to reduce the error of the predicted initial depth value, a self-organizing map technique is performed on the predicted depth pixel by using the measured depth pixel around the predicted depth pixel. In the process of self-organization map, a weight is determined according to a difference between a distance between a predicted depth pixel and an measured depth pixel and a color value corresponding to each pixel. In this paper, we compared the proposed method with the bilateral filter and k-nearest neighbor widely used as a depth map upsampling method for performance comparison. Compared to the bilateral filter and the k-nearest neighbor, the proposed method reduced by about 6.4% and 8.6% in terms of MAE, and about 10.8% and 14.3% in terms of RMSE.

The aim of the estimation of disparity map is to find the corresponding pixels from similar two or more images. However, it is a difficult problem to get precise and consistent disparity under a variety of real world situations. In other words, the color values of stereo images are easily influenced by radiometric properties such as illumination direction, illumination color, and camera exposure. Therefore, conventional stereo matching methods can have low performances under radiometric conditions. In this paper, we propose an approaching of disparity map estimation that is reliable in controlling various radiometric variations close to the real environment. This method is motivated by following constancy. Even though each other has different radiometric property in stereo images, intensity of pixels of object have general constancy in specific block. Experimental results show that the proposed method has better performances compared to the comparison group under different radiometric conditions between stereo images. Consequentially, the proposed method is able to estimate the disparity map in stable under various radiometric variations.
A depth image-based rendering (DIBR) technique is one of the rendering processes of virtual views with a color image and the corresponding depth map. The most important issue of DIBR is that the virtual view has no information at newly exposed areas, so called dis-occlusion. In this paper, we propose an intermediate view generation algorithm using the Kinect depth camera that utilizes the infrared structured light. After we capture a color image and its corresponding depth map, we pre-process the depth map. The pre-processed depth map is warped to the virtual viewpoint and filtered by median filtering to reduce the truncation error. Then, the color image is back-projected to the virtual viewpoint using the warped depth map. In order to fill out the remaining holes caused by dis-occlusion, we perform a background-based image in-painting operation. Finally, we obtain the synthesized image without any dis-occlusion. From experimental results, we have shown that the proposed algorithm generated very natural images in real-time.

This paper describes a system fur tracking multiple faces in an input video sequence using facial convex hull based facial segmentation and robust hausdorff distance. The algorithm adapts skin color reference map in YCbCr color space and hair color reference map in RGB color space for classifying face region. Then, we obtain an initial face model with preprocessing and convex hull. For tracking, this algorithm computes displacement of the point set between frames using a robust hausdorff distance and the best possible displacement is selected. Finally, the initial face model is updated using the displacement. We provide an example to illustrate the proposed tracking algorithm, which efficiently tracks rotating and zooming faces as well as existing multiple faces in video sequences obtained from CCD camera.

Real-time body detection has been researched actively. On the other hand, the detection rate of color distorted images is low because most existing detection methods use static skin color model. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method for detecting the skin color region using a gradient map and saturation features. The basic procedure of the proposed method sequentially consists of creating a gradient map, extracting a gradient feature of skin regions, noise removal using the saturation features of skin, creating a cluster for extraction regions, detecting skin regions using cluster information, and verifying the results. This method uses features other than the color to strengthen skin detection not affected by light, race, age, individual features, etc. The results of the detection rate showed that the proposed method is 10% or more higher than the traditional methods.
