  • In order to process video data effectively, it is required that the content information of video data is loaded in database and semantic- based retrieval method can be available for various query of users. In this paper, we propose semantic-based video retrieval system for Environment Education Contents which support semantic retrieval of various users by feature-based retrieval and annotation-based retrieval of massive video data. By user's fundamental query and selection of image for key frame that extracted form query, the agent gives the detail shape for annotation of extracted key frame. Also, key frame selected by user become query image and searches the most similar key frame through feature based retrieval method that propose. From experiment, the designed and implemented system showed high precision ratio in performance assessment more than 90 percents.

  • In this paper, a novel descreening method using HOG(histogram of gradient)-based adaptive smoothing filter is proposed. Conventional edge-oriented smoothing methods does not provide enough smoothing to the halftone image due to the edge-like characteristic of the halftone noise. Moreover, clustered-dot halftoning method, which is commonly used in printing tends to create Moire pattern because of the intereference in color channels. Therefore, the proposed method uses HOG to distinguish edges and the amount of smoothing to be performed on the halftone image is then calculated according to the magnitude of the HOG in the edge and edge normal orientation. The proposed method was tested on various scanned halftone materials, and the results show that it effectively removes halftone noises as well as Moire pattern while preserving image details.

  • According to fast change of the environment, the structured study of the ecosystem by analyzing the plant leaves are needed. Expecially, the methodology that searches and classifies the leaves from captured from the smart device have received numerous concerns in the field of computer science and ecology. In this paper, we propose a plant leaf classification technique using shape descriptor by combining Scale Invarinat Feature Transform (SIFT) and Histogram of Oriented Gradient (HOG) from the image segmented from the background via Graphcut algorithm. The shape descriptor is coded in the field of Locality-constrained Linear Coding to optimize the meaningful features from a high degree of freedom. It is connected to Support Vector Machines (SVM) for efficient classification. The experimental results show that our proposed approach is very efficient to classify the leaves which have similar color, and shape.

  • This paper presents an approach for detecting and measuring human skin pigmentation. In the proposed scheme, we extract a skin area by a GMM-EM clustering based skin color model that is estimated from the statistical analysis of training images and remove tiny noises through the morphology processing. A skin area is decomposed into two components of hemoglobin and melanin by an independent component analysis (ICA) algorithm. Then, we calculate the intensities of hemoglobin and melanin by using the projection transformed block coefficient and determine the existence of skin pigmentation according to the global and local distribution of two intensities. Furthermore, we measure the area and density of the detected skin pigmentation. Experimental results verified that our scheme can both detect the skin pigmentation and measure the quantity of that and also our scheme takes less time because of the location histogram.

  • Video digital door lock(VDDL) system detects people who access to the door and acquires the human image. Design considerations is that current consumption must be minimized by applying fast human detection algorithm because of battery-based operation. Since the digital door lock takes an image through a fixed camera, detection of a person based on background image leads to high degree of reliability. This paper deals with a single human detection algorithm suitable for VDDL with fulfilling these requirements such that it detects a moving object in an image, then identifies whether the object is a person or not using image processing. The proposed image processing algorithm consists of two steps: Firstly, it detects the human image region using both background image and skin color information. Secondly, it identifies the person using polar histogram based on proportional information of human body. Proposed algorithm is implemented in VDDL and is verified the performance through experiments.

  • Imbalances in focus, luminance and color between stereo Pairs could cause disparity vector estimation error and increment of transmission data. If the distribution of errors in residual image is large, it may influence to lowering of compression performance. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an efficient balancing method between stereo pairs to reduce the effect. For this, we registrated stereo images using a FFT based method to consider the pixels in the occluded region, we eliminated the pixels of blocks which has large error of disparity vector estimation in balancing function estimation. The balancing function has estimated using histogram specification, local information of target image and residual image between stereo images. Experiments show that the proposed method is effective in error distribution, PSNR and disparity vector estimation. We expect that our method can be improving compression efficiency in stereo coding system.

  • In this paper, we apply a set of algorithms to classily normal and cancer nucleus from uterine cervical pap-smear images. First, we use lightening compensation algorithm to restore color images that have defamation through the process of obtaining $1{\times}400$ microscope magnification. Then, we remove the background from images with the histogram distributions of RGB regions. We extract nucleus areas from candidates by applying histogram brightness, Kapur method, and our own 8-direction contour tracing algorithm. Various binarization, cumulative entropy, masking algorithms are used in that process. Then, we are able to recognize normal and cancer nucleus from those areas by using three morphological features - directional information, the size of nucleus, and area ratio - with fuzzy membership functions and deciding rules we devised. The experimental result shows our method has low false recognition rate.

  • In this paper, an algorithm using wavelet transform for detecting a cut that is a radical scene transition point, and fade and dissolve that are gradual scene transition points is proposed. The conventional methods using wavelet transform for this purpose is using features in both spatial and frequency domain. But in the proposed algorithm, the color space of an input image is converted to YUV and then luminance component Y is transformed in frequency domain using 2-level lifting. Then, the histogram of only low frequency subband that may contain some spatial domain features is compared with the previous one. Edges obtained from other higher bands can be divided into global, semi-global and local regions and the histogram of each edge region is compared. The experimental results show the performance improvement of about 17% in recall and 18% in precision and also show a good performance in fade and dissolve detection.

  • An extraction method of central objects in the color images is proposed, in this paper. A central object is defined as a comparatively consist of the central object in the image. First of all. an input image and its decreased resolution images are segmented. Segmented regions are classified as the outer or the inner region. The outer region is adjacent regions are included by a same region in the decreased resolution image. Then core object regions and core background regions are selected from the inner region and the outer region respectively. Core object regions are the representative regions for the object and are selected by using the information about the information about the region size and location. Each inner regions is classified into foreground or background regions by comparing values of a color histogram intersection of the inner region against the core object region and the core background regions. The core object region and foreground regions consist of the central object in the image.

  • In a visual driver-assistance system, separating moving objects from fixed objects are an important problem to maintain multiple hypothesis for the state. Color and edge-based tracker can often be 'distracted' causing them to track the wrong object. Many researchers have dealt with this problem by using multiple features, as it is unlikely that all will be distracted at the same time. In this paper, we improve the accuracy and robustness of real-time tracking by combining a color histogram feature with a brightness of Optical Flow-based feature under a Sequential Monte Carlo framework. And it is also excepted from Tracking as time goes on, reducing density by Adaptive Particles Number in case of the fixed object. This new framework makes two main contributions. The one is about the prediction framework which separating moving objects from fixed objects and the other is about measurement framework to get a information from the visual data under a partial occlusion.
