  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the color distribution of the maxillary primary central and lateral incisors using a dental spectrophotometer. Color measurements of maxillary primary central and lateral incisors of 32 pediatric patients aged 2 to 6 years were performed using SpectroShade Handy Dental Type 713000 (Serial No. HDL2678, MHT, Verona, Italy) by one researcher in the same clinic. CIE L*, a*, b* values of total surfaces and cervical, middle, incisal region were recorded. L* values were higher and a* values were lower in the primary central incisors than those in primary lateral incisors, but b* values didn't show statistical difference. L* values of the middle region were the highest, and a* and b* values decreased from the cervical region to the incisal region. There were significant color differences between each region, and ΔE*ab between each region were greater than ΔE*ab between the primary central and lateral incisors. For esthetic restorations of primary incisors, it is necessary to consider the color differences between each region rather than those between the primary central and lateral incisors.

  • Argo drifters provide information of the vertical structure in the water column and have a potential for the improvement of understanding phytoplankton primary production and biogeochemical cycles in combination with ocean color satellite data, which can obtain the horizontal distribution of phytoplankton biomass in the surface layer. Our examples show that using Argo drifters with satellite-measured horizontal distribution of phytoplankton biomass at the sea surface allow an improved understanding of the development of the spring bloom. The other possible uses of Argo drifter are discussed.

  • In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to detect human faces for controling a camera used in video conference. We model the distribution of skin color and set up the standard skin color in YIQ color space. An input video frame image is segmented into skin and non-skin segments by comparing the standard skin color and each pixels in the input video frame. Then, shape filler is applied to select face segments from skin segments. Our algorithm detects human faces in real time to control a camera to capture a human face with a proper size and position.

  • This paper investigates a method for dtermining a threshold value based on the probability distribution function for color image segmentation. Principal components of normalized color is nalyzed and found that there are effective color transforms for outdoor scents. We esplain the functional relationship of the treshold and the probability of a regiona detection, asuming bivarate Gaussian probability density function. Experimental results show that the probability of detection is proportional to the segmented area.

  • The accurate representation of the colors of dyed fabric on a color CRT(cathode ray tube) screen is the basis for the automatic process in dyeing industry. In the former study, we had focused on the theoretically color matching method between CIE(International Commission on illumination) and RGB color coordinates, but In this study we tried simulating the colors obtained from fabrics on the color CRT by using experimental method. we obtained the following results. 1. We could simulate all of the color CRT by gamut mapping method, even though some of the KOSCOTE(Korea Standard Color of Textile) colors represented on the color CRT didn't exist in the region of color region 2. We could do conditional matching by CIE system, even though it was hard to do invariant matching the Red, Green, Blue phosphors of the color CRT because of the SPD(Spectral Power Distribution) which had been set up before. 3. We could simulate all the colors obtained from fabrics on the color CRT by matching those two color groups from KOSCOTE fabrics and color CRT using match algorithm and matching programs. 4. If we get over on obstacles by grafting CCM and CCK machines which have been used in educational and industrial areas by matching KOSCOTE with color CRT we will be able to invent color simulation system controled automatically.

  • Purpose - Color is perceived to have an effect on humans' cognition and behavior because of its association with specific concepts. Since there are few studies linking color and price presentation, we investigated a constrained condition of consumers' regulatory focus and involvement. Research design, data, and methodology - We performed a 2 (color: red vs. black) × 2 (regulatory focus: prevention vs. promotion) × 2 (involvement: high vs. low) test of our hypothesis. The target product was a portable data storage device (USB) and data from 165 respondents were analyzed. Each condition had two stages. In the first, product information and price were presented. After reviewing the product information, respondents evaluated price attractiveness. In the second stage, respondents filled out regulatory focus and involvement questionnaires. The main variables were color, regulatory focus, and involvement. Therefore, we ran a three-way ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) to test our hypothesis. Results - When the price was red (vs. black), consumers perceived the red price as more attractive than the black price. However, this effect varied by situation. Specifically, in the low involvement condition among prevention-focused consumers, when the price was in red, price attractiveness was higher than when the price was in black. However, for promotion-focused consumers, there was no difference in the price color effect. In the high involvement condition, promotion-focused consumers showed stronger price attractiveness for the red price than the black price. However, the effect of price color diminished for prevention-focused consumers. That is, prevention-focused consumers did not reveal a different price perception between red versus black in the high involvement condition. Conclusions - This research contributes by academically linking the effects of color to price attractiveness, and focusing on the interaction of regulatory focus and involvement. When involvement is low, the effect of red disappeared for promotion-focused consumers, whereas the same happened for prevention-focused consumers under the condition of high involvement.
