Objectives: Patients with functional dyspepsia frequently complain the discomfort of daily life, so their quality of life shows a tendency to decrease. This study was aimed to investigate the usefulness of oriental medical treatment for quality of life in patients with functional dyspepsia Methods: Quality of life in 15 patients was assesed by two times questionnaire based on Korean health related Quality of Life(KQOLS) Results: The mean of KQOLS score was 122.87 before oriental medical treatment, and after treatment, the mean of score was significantly reduced to 101.60(p=0.003). The score of each domains in KQOLS was also reduced significantly in psychological health, role limitation, pain, vitality respectively(p<0.05). Conclusions: We suggest that oriental medical treatment can improve quality of life in patients with functional dyspepsia.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical effect of acupuncture and electroacupuncture by meridian theory to a patient with writer's cramp. Methods : We treated this patient with only acupuncture and electroacupuncture by meridian theory. We evaluated the state of improvement by time to maintain right 2nd finger extended, Pain Disability Index(PDI). PDI was measured twice before treatment and after 19 weeks. Results and Conclusions : The subject was improved in estimation by time to maintain right 2nd finger extended, PDI. The time was from a few seconds to almost 90 minutes. PDI was from 21 to 17. According to above result, acupuncture and electroacupuncture by meridian theory were effective to improve symptoms of writer's cramp.

In korean society, the chronic life style diseases are increasing. It is caused by the approach of the aged society and the highly increasing income. Accordingly the preventive side of the health promotion and management is very important. In the oriental medicine, the general disease pre-estimate and the management program are necessary. On this point, the sign forecast is very significant in connection with the disease pre-estimate in the preventive disease management side. The sign forecast according to the human shape type diagnosis is mainly the sign of the super-early stage, The difference of the shape type has the difference of the special affinity about the disease. Accordingly we can find the sign forecast from the latent disease in the early stage. In NAE-GYEONG(內經), the theory of "five body form's type" can be pre-estimated the latent tendency and the clue of the disease and the growing tendency of disease in relation to the Differentiation of Syndrome, In the disease pre-estimate side, the graspe and management of the sign forecast from the latent disease will be the part of the new development.

Object : This study was designed to evaluate the effects of oriental medicine therapy on a lung cancer patient. Methods : The patient was admitted on August 20. 2008 and remained until September 24. 2008. She was treated with herbal medicine. acupuncture and moxa therapy. Result & Conclusion : After the treatment. the symptoms and chest X-ray results improved. This result suggests that oriental medicine is an effective treatment for some lung cancer patients. Nevertheless more clinical case reports are needed.

Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is a group of autoimmune syndromes consisting of demyelinating and acute axonal degenerating forms of the disease. Typically, Gullain-Barre syndrome can be diagnosed from the patient's symptoms and physical examination such as the rapid onset of weakness, paralysis and loss of reflexes. In most patients, resolution is complete or near complete. Treatment consists of supportive care, ventilatory management (in about one third of patients), and specific therapy with intravenous immunoglobulin or plasmapheresis. This clinical report is about suspected acute severe Guillain-Barre syndrome patient, 61-year-old man had quadriplegia, facial palsy, dysphasia, respiratory failure. After 5 weeks of East-West integrative medicine therapy - Conventional Conservative therapy(plasmaphresis and intravenous immunoglobulin) and Korean traditional medicine(Sasang medicine and acupuncture treatment) - most symptoms improved.

This study was designed to evaluate clinical effects of device for correcting bowleg and Chuna to patients with genu varum. The clinical study was carried out 4 cases with genu varum, who had been treated from April, 2009 to May, 2010 in the department of oriental rehabilitation medicine, Sang-ji university oriental medical hospital. After treating device for correcting bowleg and Chuna, we find out that genu varum was improved after treatment. So these results suggest that device for correcting bowleg and Chuna was effective to patients with genu varum.

The goal of current study is to make a standard pattern identification for post stroke depression using a delphi method. Finally, ten experts of oriental medicine, especially of stroke or depression, participated in Dephi examination. At the first meeting, experts conducted free discussion and determined to use the previous published questionnaires of Deficiency-Excess identification and Cold-Heat identification. From the second round, experts participated in evaluating and correcting the questionnaire by email. New seven questions were added to the questionnaire of Deficiency-Excess identification through the second round. Finally, the standard pattern identification of Cold-Heat or Deficiency-Excess is composed 20 questions and 11 questions, respectively. These pattern identifications for post stroke depression will contribute to research and treatment of oriental medicine.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to report effectiveness of oriental medical treatments to symptoms and quality of life in the patients with herniated lumbar disc being suggested operation. Methods : Eighteen patients diagnosed with herniated lumbar disc by MRI in hospital were treated by oriental medical treatments. Symptoms of the patients were assessed by visual analogue scale(VAS) and SF-36. Results : After the treatments, the VAS of symptoms of herniated lumbar disc and the score of role-physical scale in SF-36 were improved but the other scores of scales were not significantly different. Conclusions : It could be suggested that oriental medical treatments were effective for the patients with herniated lumbar disc being suggested operation. Further study of the effect of oriental medical treatments on herniated lumbar disc is needed.

A Case of dizziness treated with Singi-hwan is reported. Singi-hwan is an herbal formula historically used for Jing(精) deficiency in Traditional Korean Medicine and dizziness is a common symptom presented in patients with Jing(精) deficiency. An elderly patient diagnosed with senile dizziness was treated using Singi-hwan for ten consecutive days in Dunsan Oriental Hospital, and has shown positive outcome.
