  • Among artificial intelligence-based computational techniques, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS) are particularly suitable for modelling complex systems with known input-output data sets. Such systems can be efficient in modelling non-linear, complex and ambiguous behaviour of cement-based materials undergoing single, dual or multiple damage factors of different forms (chemical, physical and structural). Due to the well-known complexity of sulfate attack on cement-based materials, the current work investigates the use of ANFIS to model the behaviour of a wide range of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) mixture designs under various high-concentration sodium sulfate exposure regimes including full immersion, wetting-drying, partial immersion, freezing-thawing, and cyclic cold-hot conditions with or without sustained flexural loading. Three ANFIS models have been developed to predict the expansion, reduction in elastic dynamic modulus, and starting time of failure of the tested SCC specimens under the various high-concentration sodium sulfate exposure regimes. A fuzzy inference system was also developed to predict the level of aggression of environmental conditions associated with very severe sodium sulfate attack based on temperature, relative humidity and degree of wetting-drying. The results show that predictions of the ANFIS and fuzzy inference systems were rational and accurate, with errors not exceeding 5%. Sensitivity analyses showed that the trends of results given by the models had good agreement with actual experimental results and with thermal, mineralogical and micro-analytical studies.

  • Dual channel Radiometer for Earth and Atmospheric Monitoring (DREAM) is the main payload on Science and Technology SATellite-2 (STSAT-2) of Korea. DREAM is two-channel microwave radiometer with linear polarization, and operating at center frequencies of 23.8 GHz and 37 GHz. An equation for DREAM calibration is derived which accounts for losses and re-radiation in the microwave components of the radiometer due to physical temperature. This paper describes the radiometric calibration equation to get antenna temperature ($T_A$) from the measured output data. At lower altitude, the measured deep space temperature is contaminated by middle atmosphere and earth radiation. In this paper, we presented the detail mathematical formulation to find the altitude up to which cold source brightness temperature is not affected by earth and middle atmosphere radiation. The DREAMPFM data is used to calculate the performance parameters (linearity, sensitivity, dynamic range, and etc.) of the system.

  • Internal tin processed Nb$_3$Sn wires of intermediated worked state of were took from Mitsubishi and fabricated with various diameters ranging from 0.76 mm to 0.2 mm. These specimens were heat-treated at $460^{\circ}C$ for 70 h and at $570^{\circ}C$ for 100h to form bronze and at $700^{\circ}C$ for 100h to form Nb$_3$Sn compound. Bending strain Ic s of the wires were measured with various bending diameters ranging from flat to 76 mm. In order to investigate the sensitivity for strain, small diameters of wires were strain Ic at 6 T, 4.2 K. There were no breakage decrease during cold working to 0.2 mm of diameter and no decrease Jc to the diameter of 0.3 mm. The values of bending strain Ic of 0.2 mm and 0.3 mm diameters of the wires were not decreased at 76 mm of bending diameter.

  • Steam turbine rotors are the most critical and highly stressed components of a steam power plant; therefore, the life expectancy of the turbine rotor is an important consideration for the safety of a steam power plant. The objective of this paper is to develop a life estimation program for turbine rotors for all possible operating conditions. For this purpose, finite element analysis was carried out for four normal operating modes (cold, warm, hot and very hot starts) using ABAQUS codes. The results are made into databases to evaluate the life expenditure for an actual operating condition. For any other possible abnormal operating condition, the operating data are transmitted to the server (workstation) through a network to carry out finite element analysis. Damage estimation is carried out by transmitting the finite element analysis results to the personal computer, and then the life expectancy is calculated.

  • This paper studies the strength, fatigue sensitivity, safety factor and lifetimes by means of structural and fatigue analyses of different models of rear doors upon the opening of doors and windows leading to severe fatigue fractures of the window motor components of rear doors. The simulation models were a standard model and other models. The other models, which are denoted here as models I and II, were modified versions of the standard model, with a rib of 3mm and a thickness of 2mm as compared to the standard model. The door was modelled with CATIA V5 and analyzed with the ANSYS program. The material of the rear door was cold rolled steel (DDQ). From the study results, the standard model and model I were confirmed to be less safe upon the opening of the door as compared to the opening of a window in terms of fatigue, but model II was found to be safe for both door and window openings.

  • This paper presents the analysis results for the core degradation processes and the fission product release of the PHEBUS FPT0 experiment using MELCOR1.8.3. The objective of this study is to assess models associated with the core damage and fission product behavior in MELCOR. The calculation results were much improved through sensitivity studies. Thermal/hydraulic behavior in the core and the circuit was well predicted under the intact core geometry. In non-eutectic model case. the UO$_2$ dissolution model in the MELCOR always showed such a tendency that the resulting dissolved UO$_2$ mass was small at the highly oxidized condition due to the model logic. Total H$_2$ generation mass was underpredicted because the stiffner was not modeled and the liner in the shroud was not allowed to be oxidized in MELCOR. Some difficulties were found in modeling the activation product were solved by manipulating the RN input associated with the initial fission product inventory. These problem were occurred because there are no control rod model in MELCOR. Generally the fission product release ratio showed a similar trend compared with the measured data except the activation product. which have no model to simulate in MELCOR.

  • Nonthermal atmospheric plasma has been studied for its many biomedical effects, such as tooth bleaching, wound healing, and coagulation. In this study, the effects of dentinal tubules occlusion were investigated using fluoride-carboxymethyl cellulose (F-CMC) gel, nano-sized hydroxyapatite (n-HA), and nonthermal atmospheric plasma. Human dentin specimens were divided to 5 groups (group C, HA, HAF, HAP, and HAFP). Group HA was treated with n-HA, group HAF was treated with n-HA after a F-CMC gel application, group HAP was treated with n-HA after a plasma treatment and group HAFP was treated with n-HA after a plasma and F-CMC gel treatment. The occlusion of dentinal tubules was investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), which shows Ca/P ratio. In the EDS results, a higher Ca/P ratio was shown in the groups including n-HA than in the control group. The specimens of group HAP and HAFP had a higher Ca/P ratio in retentivity. In the SEM results, there was not a significant difference in the amount of times applied. Therefore, this study suggests F-CMC gel and n-HA treatment using nonthermal atmospheric plasma will be a new treatment method for decreasing hypersensitivity.

  • Gingival recession is clinically manifested by an apical displacement of the gingival tissue and dentin hypersensitivity is often used to describe a painful condition in which exposed dentin is unduly sensitive to intraoral stimuli. The objects of this study were primarily to investigate the prevalence and distribution of gingival recession and hypersensitivity and secondarily to determine whether a relationship exists between gingival recession and hypersensitivity. The study population was 195 patients (102 males, 93 females) who were attended the department of periodontology, Pusan National University Hospital. 189 patients exhibited gingival recession at least more than 1 tooth, the prevalence was 96.9%. The maxillary and mandibular first premolar and mandibular incisors had the highest prevalence. The majority of patients (139 patients, 71.3%) were diagnosed as having dentin hypersensitivity. Dentin hypersensitivity was determined to 3 seconds application of cold air to the exposed root surface after isolating the test tooth and was commonest in maxillary and mandibular first premolars and mandibular incisors. Relationship between recession and hypersensitivity was analyzed using chi-square test (p=0.05), significant relation (p=0.000) was existed. Gingival recession was more severe, the prevalence of hypersensitivity was higher.

  • Recently, mass spectrometers are widely used for in-situ chemical analysis. It has rapid response and high sensitivity. In this paper, we present the fabrication and test of a cold cathode emitter for micro mass spectrometer using CNTs(Carbon nano tubes). The CNTs have good mechanical, electrical and chemical characteristics. So they have a long life time and strong robustness. The micro mass spectrometer is composed of the glass substrate and the silicon substrate. The glass substrate is constructed by electrodes for TOF(Time-of-flight) which analyze an ion with mass to charge ratio as ion separator. The silicon substrate is highly doped wafer which is patterned for gate electrode and then 100 11m dry etching to grow the CNTs as the electron emitter. The CNTs are grown by HFCVD(Hot filament chemical vapor deposition) with sputtering the catalyst. We successfully attained to grow the CNTs and to test the characteristics.

  • The purpose of this study is for evaluating the effect of MS Coat desensitizing agent in clinical situation. In this study total 60 teeth of 30 patients who is feeling hypersensitivity after periodontal surgery were treated with MS Coat desensitizing agent, and 20 teeth with saline solution for placebo effects and evaluated. All teeth were cleaned with rubber cup and pumice, after then the antibacterial agent was applied for 20 seconds and simply isolated using cotton roll Desensitizing agent was applied with a specific instrument in the manufacturers package by abrading motion for 10 seconds and re-done 8 times. Tactile stimulus with sharp explorer, air stimulus with syringe of dental unit, $7^{\circ}C$ cold water stimulus using micropipette applicator was done to evaluate hypersensitivity before apply test agent, immediate after application, 1 week after, and 3 month after application. The degree of hypersensitivity was recorded using 100mm Visual Analogue Scale and compared between group and evaluation times. From this clinical study sensitivity to the stimulus was significantly induced in both groups and MS Coat made a significant reduction in VAS score than placebo group did(p<.01). The results of this study could demonstrate that MS Coat desensitizing agent can use effectively to heat dentinal hypersensitivity.
