  • The present discussion is concerned with showing the development of natural language processing and how it is related to information and cognition.On the basis of the computeational model,in which humans are viewed as processors of linguistic structures that use stored knowledge-grammar, lexicon and structures representing the encyclopedic information of the world,such programs of natural language understanding as Winograd's SHRDLU came out.However,such pragmatic factors as contexts and the speaker's beliefs,internts,goals and intentions are not easy to process yet.Language,ingormation and cognition are argued to be closely interrelated,and the study of them,the paper argues,can lead to the development of science on general.

An Analysis of the Development of Communicative Skills and Grammar in Three Korean Children with Autism (한국 고기능 자폐아동의 담화화용과 문법 능력의 상호 관계에 관한 분석 연구)

  • The present paper is concerned with assessing both communicational skills and grammatical knowledge in three Korean-speaking children with a range in age from 9;11 to 12;2 and in MLU from 1.68 to 2.22. It was found that all three autistic children's speech was largely repetitive and echolalic, unable to consistently interact communicatively on the ongoing joint focus of attention. It was also observed that the more repetitive the child speech was, the more impaired morpho-syntactically it was. Based on these findings, it was speculated that the deficit in joint focus of attention might relate to grammatical development.

A LR Parsing Algorithm for Tree Adjoining Grammar (트리 접합 문법의 LR파싱 알고리즘)

  • We present a LR,bottom-up parsing algorithms for TAG. We will introduce the adjoining rules system to handle the formal properties of TAG and to describe the parsing process more effectively. We will consider the context-free behavior of TAG at the adjoining instant. Then we will present the LR bottom up parsing algorithm for TAG by using this property. The basic idea behind a LR bottom up parsing algorithm can be applied to parsing TAG with other conventional algorithms.

The linguistic phenomena in cognitive grammar (인지문법에서 본 언어현상)

  • Despite the fact that the phenomenal success of the classical model in phonology in terms of a small set of binary atomic primitives has encouraged the use of criterical features in the characterization of syntactic and semantic categories, cognitive linguists have recently found many evidences against it and proposed a valid alternative like prototype approach to classical model of linguistic categorization. In this paper the examples with prototype effects are shown in phonology, morphology, and syntax. In phonology there is no clear-cut borderline in initial sounds such as / r, m, n, v, ${\eth}$, z, w. j, b. d, g / and between vowels and consonants. In morphology family resemblance is shown between strong verbs and past tenses. In syntax there is no borderline among various kinds of sentences such as declarative, command, WH-question, yes-no question, etc.

  • '바른 우리글 쓰기' 학습시스템은 우리말 작문 학습에 필요한 지식을 익히도록 하고자 만들었다. 이 논문의 궁극적인 목표는 한국어 철자/문법 검사기와 국어 학습시스템을 연계하여 학습자가 적극적으로 학습에 참여하도록 동기를 부여하는 능동적인 언어 학습 시스템의 구현이다. 흔히 웹에 기반한 학습시스템에서 학습자는 일방적으로 정보를 제공받거나 독립적인 위치에서 자율적인 학습을 해나가야 하므로 끊임없는 흥미와 관심이 없이는 효율적인 성과를 거두기 어렵다. 이와 같은 약점을 보완하려는 맥락에서 이 학습시스템은 학습자가 스스로 학습한 후 그 결과를 평가 문제나 한국어 철자/문법 검사기를 통해 즉각적으로 확인해 보고 부족한 내용을 공부할 수 있도록 한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 웹기반의 TOEIC 문법 문제 자동 생성 시스템을 제안한다. 본 시스템은 웹에서 문서를 가져온 후, 문서의 각 문장이 데이터베이스에 저장된 문제 패턴에 일치하는 지를 검사하여 문제를 생성한다. 본 시스템을 통해서 생성되는 문법 문제를 영어 전문가를 통해서 검중한 결과, 대부분의 문제가 TOEIC 실전 문제로 사용하기에 충분한 것이었다. 우리의 조사에 의하면, TOEIC 문법 문제의 자동 생성에 관한 기존 연구는 거의 발표되고 있지 않다.

The Semantic Structure and Grammaticalization of the French Preposition de (프랑스어 전치사 de의 의미 구조와 문법화)

  • This study is about the French preposition de. This preposition is considered to have no meaning in the French language, and to have only the grammatical function in its use. This study begins with doubts about such views regarding this preposition. We organize and classify general descriptions of the uses of this preposition. The uses are classified as 'expressing starting point,' 'giving characteristics' and 'performing grammatical functions' and this data is analyzed in terms of the associated cognitive grammar. In the case of expressing the starting point, it is assumed that the trajector moves from the starting point, to the destination point, in the domain of space and in the domain of time. Therefore, it is noted in this case that the preposition de has a dynamic concept. On the other hand, it is significant to understand that the preposition of the 'giving characteristics' defines an outline of a particular class by giving the class's characteristics. The preposition de has a static concept in this case. For the preposition de which introduces the infinitive, all of these dynamic and static concepts are faded and extremely grammaticalized.

  • In this paper, we proposed DEVS based programming education model that based on the cognitive information processing theory, not a grammatical programming education, and studied effectiveness analysis using computer thinking patterns. By creating a small range of patterns in the grammar which underlies the programming language and solving various examples through combinations, this paper shows an education method to develop problem-solving skills based on algorithmic thinking. The purpose of this study is to facilitate non-majors learn programming languages and understand patterned program structures when writing programs by patterning of control statements which the most important in learning programming.

A Study on Functional Structure in Conversation of Family Therapy (가족치료 대화의 구조와 기능에 대한 대화분석적 연구)

  • This study investigated dialog sequence prototype that was the structure of communication, which could be shown in family counseling conversation between therapists and clients. The study was intended to review the process stages of family counseling through literature review, and divided functional phases into 'atmosphere formation phase', 'family evaluation phase', 'persuasion phase of cognitive change', 'confirmation phase of change experience', and 'termination phase'. The study selected two family therapists and 30 clients for research objects. They allowed data collections for the study after the explanation about the research objects. The transcribers were trained by the consent of transcription, which used particular symbol for verbal and nonverbal contents in conversation. The transcribed data were analyzed by dialog grammar, one of the linguistic dialog analysis method developed by Hundsnurscher(1994). This study described and explained dialog sequence prototype that displayed in conversation between family therapist and client through the total sessions in family therapy. The study found three types of dialog sequence prototype in 'atmosphere formation phase', eight types in 'family evaluation phase', nine types in 'persuasion phase of cognitive change', eight types in 'confirmation phase of change experience', and eight types of 'termination phase'. Even if the dialog sequence prototype mentioned above cannot be applied to the process of family therapy at its face value, these findings may contribute to beginners in counseling and graduate students majoring family therapy to do practice in counseling. The research has a limitation in which the study investigated dialog sequence prototype of conversation in two persons. Future research needs to include dialog sequence prototype of conversation among more than three persons. Specifically, when a family therapist do family counseling, he/she treats more than three family members as usual. Therefore, the researchers hope that future study investigates dialog sequence prototype between therapist and client, client and client, among therapist, client and other family members.

Characteristics of Narrative Writing in Normal Aging: Story Grammar and Syntactic Structure (노년층의 글쓰기 특성 -이야기문법과 구문구조)

  • The elderly often produce irrelevant speech and get off-topic more easily than the young; the former also has difficulty generating fewer syntactic structures and makes errors of grammatical morphemes. In particular, the elderly might have more difficulty writing since it requires more complex cognitive processes than storytelling. The participants in this study were 32 young people and 32 older people. They were asked to write a short story of Korean fairy tale('Heungbu Nolbu'). The data was analyzed in narrative composition and syntactic structures. The study revealed the following: First, in composition aspects, the elderly group showed significantly lower total number of story grammar and episodes. In addition, the elderly produced more off topic statements. Second, in syntactic aspects, although there was no significant difference in the number of producing complex sentences between two groups, the elderly group generated more inadequate cohesive devices and used fewer relative and adverbial clauses. These findings suggest that the elderly have a tendency to perform tasks by producing more off-topic statements and shows decreasing coherence by using lower number of relative and adverbial clauses. However, this study also uncovers that the elderly were able to write more complex and longer sentences using visual feedback.
