In order to improve computational thinking, elementary schools have been using 'Scratch' to provide basic programming education. However, the study on evaluation of computational thinking is at an early stage. Therefore, this study evaluated the conceptual level of computational thinking using the scratch code analyzing. For this, Dr. Scratch was used to analyze 179 scratch projects. The results showed that the conceptual level of computational thinking of most elementary students was at the developing level, and that it varied according to gender and production style, showed the lowest level of logic and abstraction, and improved computational thinking during programming. This study is meaningful in that it provides implications for the improvement of teaching methods and self-directed evaluation in learning.

Two-dimensional product code has been studied for correcting burst errors on the storage systems. An RS-LDPC product code consists of an RS code in horizontal direction and an LDPC code in vertical direction. First, we detect the position of burst errors by using RS code, then LDPC code corrects the errors by using the burst error positions. In storage system, long burst errors are occurred by various reason. So, we need a strong code for correcting the long burst errors. RS-LDPC product code is good for long burst errors. However, as the storage density grows the length of the burst errors will be longer. Thus, we propose an LDPC-LDPC product code, it is strong for correcting the very long burst errors. Also, the proposed LDPC-LDPC product code performs better than RS-LDPC product code when the random errors are occurred, because a row direction LDPC code performs better than row direction RS code.

Currently, the interim storage pools of spent fuels in South Korea are expected to become saturated from 2024. It is required to prepare an operation plan of a domestic dry storage facility during a long-term period, with the researches on safety evaluation methods. This study modified the FRAPCON code to predict the spent fuel integrity evaluation such as the axial cladding temperature, the hoop stress and hydrogen distribution in dry storage. The cladding temperature in dry storage was calculated using the COBRA-SFS code with the burnup information which was calculated using the FRAPCON code. The hoop stress was calculated using the ideal gas equation with spent fuel information such as rod internal pressure. Numerical analysis method was used to calculate the degree of hydrogen diffusion according to the hydrogen concentration and temperature distribution during a dry storage period. Before 50 years of dry storage, the cladding temperature and hoop stress decreased rapidly. However, after 50 years, they decreased gradually and the cladding temperature was below 400 K. The initial temperature distribution and hydrogen concentration showed a parabolic line, but hydrogen was transferred by the hydrogen concentration and temperature gradient over time.
Nowadays, traffic congestion is emerging as a major problem due to the rapid population growth and the increase in automobiles. The train is a convenient means of transportation that can efficiently solve these problems. Trains have been developed in line with human aspirations for a long time, but research on safety is still insufficient. This study aims to check safety by conducting static tests and fatigue tests on bogie frames, and to help develop bogie frames in the future. For the static test, a strain gauge was attached to the point where the local stress concentration was expected beforehand, and the result value was derived, compared with existing theories, and expressed as a Goodman diagram. In the fatigue test, a total of 10 million loads were applied over three stages, and no cracks appeared in the non-destructive test conducted after each stage. Both tests were conducted according to the strict test method of the bogie frame presented by the UIC Code. It satisfied both fatigue life and strength evaluation criteria and was judged to be a bogie frame usable for safe train production.

An axial fan design code, called iDesignFan$^{TM}$, was developed. In this code, three major loss models were used to predicted the aerodynamic performance of a fan. The overall sound pressure level, predicted from steady blade loading, is also used as an input parameter from the third loop of the designing process to acquire most silent fan for the given aerodynamic performance parameters. With this kind of inverse design concept used in this code, the period of designing a fan, which has given aerodynamic performance with minimal acoustic noise, is significantly shortened. The experimental results of a prototype fan, designed by this code, showed that aerodynamic and acoustic performance of an axial fan is reasonably well predicted. Thus, one can design/develop an axial fan in a short time by using the code.e.

A hybrid mesh based finite volume compressible flow code (PolySim) has been developed recently. Instead of the simple average method for the gradients of variables at each face, the volume average is applied for the calculation of the viscous flux. What is more, an improved Green Gauss method for the calculation of the gradient is also presented. These two techniques will improve both the accuracy and robustness of the code. The aerodynamic performance of this in-house cell centered code is examined by several widely-used bench-mark test cases. These cases include flows over flat plate and RAE 2822 etc. The comparisons on results between calculation and experiment are conducted. They show that the code can produce good numerical results which agree well with the corresponding experiment data.
We present a transformation which converts open-code multi-staged programs into closed ones. Staged computation, which explicitly divides a computation into separate stages, is a unifying framework for existing program generation systems. Because a multi-staged program generates another program, which can also generate a third program and on, the implementation of a multi-staged language is not straightforward. Dynamic binding of (lexically free) variables in code also makes the implementation of a multi-staged language hard. By converting each code into code of function which takes environment for free variables as its argument and giving an actual environment at the code-composition site, we can transform a open-code program into a closed-code one. Combining with Davies and Pfenning's method, our closed-code-conversion enables the implementation of the unstaged language to be useful for executing multi-staged programs. We also prove the correctness of our conversion: the converted program is equivalent to the original program, and the converted program does not have open code.

Although both functional verification and performance evaluation are necessary for the development of effective and reliable communication systems, they have been often performed independently; by functional modeling with formal language tools and by performance modeling with professional network performance evaluation tools, respectively. Separate and repeated modeling of one system, however, would often result in cost increase and inconsistency between the models. This paper proposes an integrated model design approach in order to overcome this problem that evaluates the performance of a communication protocol designed in SDL with SDL-OPNET model conversion. The proposed technique generates OPNET skeleton code from Tau-generated C code of the SDL model by analyzing the relations between SDL and OPNET models. IEEE 802.2 LLC protocol was used as an example of model conversion to show the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed technique.
Uplink multicarrier code-division multiple-access (MC-CDMA) with equal gain combining (EGC) over Nakagami fading channels is considered. An improved expression which is a feasible alternative for the bit error rate (BER) performance evaluation of MC-CDMA signals is proposed. Simulated annealing algorithm is employed to obtain the optimum value of the coefficients belonging to the proposed expression. Numerical examples show that the performance curves computed by the improved expression are in good agreement with the results obtained by the exact expression. Thus, the proposed expression can improve the accuracy of BER performance evaluation that has been realized by the approximate expression.

When wall-thinning occurs in nuclear Class 2 and 3 pipes, reinforcement is typically applied rather than replacement. To analyze the structural integrity of reinforced wall-thinned pipe, stress analysis results using full 3-D FE analysis are not compatible to the design code equation, ASME BPVC Sec. III NC/ND-3650. Therefore, the efficient stress evaluation method for the reinforced wall-thinned pipe, compatible to the design code equation, needs to be developed. In this paper, stress evaluation methods for the reinforced wall-thinned pipe are proposed using the equivalent straight pipe concept. Furthermore, for fatigue analysis of the reinforced wall-thinned pipe, the stress intensification factor of reinforced wall-thinned pipe is presented using the structural stress method given in ASME BPVC Sec. VIII Div.2.
