With a new method of applying chitosan and alginate onto cellulose, multi-coated cotton fabrics with chitosan and alginate were prepared and characterized. To coat cotton with chitosan, raw cotton was dipped in chitosan solution, mangled of 1kgf/$cm^2$, neutralized in 2 wt% NaOH soluton, washed, and dried at $60^{\circ}C$ oven. The chitosan-coated fiber was dipped in sodium alginate solution, 1kgf/$cm^2$ mangled, neutralized in 2 wt% $CaCl_2$ solution, washed, and dried at $60^{\circ}C$ oven, resulting in CCAC(coated cotton with chitosan and calcium alginate skin) fiber characteristics. Excellent absorbancy of distilled water and saline solution was observed by the absorption test on cotton fabric treated with CCAC(0.5 wt% calcium alginate) and 0.5 wt% calcium alginate respectively. The SEM photograph confirmed the uniform coating on the cotton fabric surface.

Electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding effectiveness(SE) was investigated in of woven fabric made of epoxy/copper-nickel fabrics and nickel coated carbon fiber reinforced acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS) composites. The coaxial transmission line method was used to measure the EMI shielding effectiveness of the composites. We designed and constructed a measuring system, consisting of a network analyzer and a device that plays the serves as a sample holder and at the same time as a transmission medium of the incident electromagnetic wave. The measurement of SE were carried out frequency range from 100MHz to 2GHz. It is observed that the SE of the composits is the frequency dependent increase with the increase in nickel coated carbon fibre volume fraction. The nickel coating with 20wt% ABS composite was shown to exhibit up to 60dB of SE. The result that nickel coated carbon fibre ABS composite can be used for the purpose of EMI shielding as well as for some microwave applications.
The membrane structure provides high satisfaction with lightweight, improved workability, reduced cost, and a free shape. Thus, its applications expanding. On the other hand, in an architectural membrane that is vulnerable to fire, the development of various architectural membranes with flame resistance is in demand. Therefore, this study applied basalt woven fabric safety for flame resistance, excellent heat insulation and thermal properties on an architectural membrane. The PTFE- coated basalt woven fabric membrane was compared with a PTFE coated glass fiber membrane by DSC/TGA, strength properties, flammability, and incombustibility properties. In addition, this study confirmed the membrane applicability of basalt woven fabric and basalt-glass hybrid woven fabric through a comparison with existing architectural membranes.
Synthetic fiber materials were developed due the desire of consumers for high-quality, high-performance and comfort. A high functionality of synthetic fiber can be obtained through surface treatment that can improve hydrophilic properties, color depth after dyeing and adhesion properties. These advantages create added-value. Hydrophobic properties are an important feature to create added-value (such as hydrophilic properties). One side processing is a method of imparting to contrary function on the front and rear side. In this study, fluorine-coated Nylon/PU blended fabric was treated on only one side with a low-temperature plasma treatment; subsequently, the contact angles decreased by increasing the time and intensity of the plasma treatment. The contact angle of the untreated surface and the treated surface was different. It a showed a difference in the properties of both surfaces. Tensile strength and stiffness decreased by increasing the time and intensity of the plasma treatment. However, plasma treatment did not significantly change the tensile strength and stiffness on both surfaces of the fabric. SEM photographs showed the surface of fluorine-coated fabric and the etching surface by using plasma treatment on the fabric. Plasma treatment was confirmed not to affect the physical properties of the fabric.
This study surveys the improvement characteristics in old-aged muscular mitochondria by bio-active materials coated fabric (BMCF). To observe the effects, the fabric (10 and 30%) was worn to old-aged rat then the oxygen consumption efficiency and copy numbers of mitochondria, and mRNA expression of apoptosis- and mitophagy-related genes were verified. By wearing the BMCF, the oxidative respiration significantly increased when using the 30% materials coated fabric. The mitochondrial DNA copy number significantly decreased and subsequently recovered in a dose-dependent manner. The respiratory control ratio to mitochondrial DNA copy number showed a dose-dependent increment. As times passed, Bax, caspase 9, PGC-$1{\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$-actin increased, and Bcl-2 decreased in a dose-dependent manner. However, the BMCF can be seen to have had no effect on Fas receptor. PINK1 expression did not change considerably and was inclined to decrease in control group, but the expression was down-regulated then subsequently increased with the use of the BMCF in a dose-dependent manner. Caspase 3 increased and subsequently decreased in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that the BMCF invigorates mitophagy and improves mitochondrial oxidative respiration in skeletal muscle, and in early stage of apoptosis induced by the BMCF is not related to extrinsic death-receptor mediated but mitochondria-mediated signaling pathway.
This study investigated garment formability of the 73 breathable fabrics for sports-wear garment and their fabric mechanical properties were measured using KES-FB and FAST systems. Predicted garment formability from the mechanical properties measured using KES-FB and FAST systems was compared and discussed with fabric structural parameters. In addition, virtual 3D simulation silhouette by I-designer CAD system wear appearance by simulation using 3D CAD system. And compared with FAST finger chart by mechanical properties of FAST system. The correlation coefficients of extensibility and shear modulus between KES-FB and FAST systems were high, however, bending rigidity and compressibility showed relatively low correlation coefficients. The correlation coefficient of garment formability of breathable fabrics between KES-FB and FAST systems was 0.82. It revealed that garment formability can be predicted from fabric mechanical properties by KES-FB and FAST systems. The garment formability of nylon breathable fabric was higher than that of PET one, and the garment formability of laminated breathable fabric showed the highest value compared to coated, dot and hot melt laminated breathable fabrics. It revealed that garment formability of breathable fabrics for sports-wear can be predicted from fabric mechanical properties and garment formability was dependent on the materials, finishing method and fabric structural parameters.
The purification, dissolution and powdering of stained waste silk obtained from weaving and dyeing process were studied for the surface modification of textile fabric and plastic materials. The whiteness of stained waste silk could be improved through degumming and bleaching with sodium hydrosulfite. The water-soluble fibroin solution can be obtained by dissoving the degummed waste silk in a boiling solution of 50% calcium chloride for 60 minutes. The salts and heavy metals contained in fibroin solution were removed by electric dialysis, wool fiber filtration and gel filtration chromatography. The fibroin powder was prepared by using a fine grinder after the alkali treatment for weakening the silk fiber. The fine fibroin powder of particle size around 30 ㎛ was obtained with a ultra fine-mill, while it was finer below 10 ㎛ with a ball-mill. The dissolved or powdered silk was applied to the surface of fabric with addition of the binder (a urethane resin). The moisture content of polyester and nylon fabrics treated with the silk solution was improved due to hygroscopic property of silk. The fine fibroin powder mixed with the binder ws coated on the surface of synthetic film by use of the air pressed sprayer. It was revealed that the hygroscopicity as well as the softness of fibroin powder coated film was much improved. Therefore, it is thought that the fine silk fibroin powder is applicable as an coating agent for the surface modification of plastic and synthetic leather.

Studies on plants such as lotus leaf suggested that dual-scale structure could contribute to super-hydrophobicity. We introduced super-hydrophobicity onto poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) fabric with dual-scale structure by assembling $TiO_2$ nano sol. PET fabric was treated with $TiO_2$ sol, water-repellent agent using various parameters such as particle size, concentration. Morphological changes by particle size were observed using field emmission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) and AFM measurement, contact angle measurement equipment. The contact angle of water was about 138.5$^{\circ}$, 125.8$^{\circ}$, 125.5$^{\circ}$ and 108.9$^{\circ}$ for PET fabric coated with 60.2nm, 120.1nm, 200nm and 410.5nm $TiO_2$ particles, compared with about 111.5$^{\circ}$ for PET fabric coated with water repellent. When we mixed particle sizes of 60.2nm and 120.1nm by 7:3 volume ratio, the contact angle of water was about 132.5$^{\circ}$. And we mixed particle sizes of 60.2nm and 200nm by 7:3 volume ratio, the contact angle of water was about 141.8$^{\circ}$. Also we mixed particle sizes of 60.2nm and 410.5nm by 7:3 volume ratio, the best super-hydrophobicity was obtained. In this paper, we fabricated various surface structures to the water-repellent surfaces by using four types of $TiO_2$ nano-particles, and we found that the nanoscale structure was very important for the super-hydrophobicity.

According to ISO 4589-2:2001, we studied on the fire characteristics of some gangway materials used as the interior materials of the railroad vehicles. Currently materials of the gangway used in the railroad vehicles tend to alternate PVC coated fabric mostly used in former days with synthetic rubber or silicone. Accordingly, we compared Limited Oxygen Index on them in this study. And we found that the test results of the synthetic rubber or silicone gangway are better than those of the PVC coated fabric gangway largely.
Pretreatment process of silica-coated PET fabrics, a major low-grade PET waste, was developed using the reaction with NaOH solution. By destroying the structure of silica coating layer, impurities such as silica and pigment dyes could be removed. The removal of impurity was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The pretreated PET fabric samples were used for depolymerization into its monomer, bis(2-hydroxylethyl) terephthalate (BHET), by glycolysis with ethylene glycol (EG), and zinc acetate (ZnAc) catalyst. The quality of BHET was confirmed by DSC, TGA, HPLC and NMR analyses. The highest BHET yield of 89.23% was obtained from pretreated PET fabrics, while glycolysis with raw PET fabric yielded 85.43%. The BHET yield from untreated silica-coated PET fabrics was 60.39%. The pretreatment process enhances the monomer yield by the removal of impurity and also improves the quality of the monomer.
