The quality of tool material is very important factor in machining evaluation. The characteristics of tungsten carbide, such as grain size and hardness, and density are depending on the variation of Co composition and WC size. In this study, the non-coated end mill which is made of ultra-fine tungsten carbide is investigated by measuring tool wear and tool lift test. The machining test is conducted with high hardened workpiece under high-speed cutting condition.
In the present work, the effects of cutting parameters on surface roughness parameters (Ra), tool wear parameters (VBmax), tool vibration (Vy) and material removal rate (MRR) during hard turning of AISI 4140 steel using coated carbide tool have been evaluated. The relationships between machining parameters and output variables were modeled using response surface methodology (RSM). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed to quantify the effect of cutting parameters on the studied machining parameters and to check the adequacy of the mathematical model. Additionally, Multi-objective optimization based desirability function was performed to find optimal cutting parameters to minimize surface roughness, and maximize productivity. The experiments were planned as Box Behnken Design (BBD). The results show that feed rate influenced the surface roughness; the cutting speed influenced the tool wear; the feed rate influenced the tool vibration predominantly. According to the microscopic imagery, it was observed that adhesion and abrasion as the major wear mechanism.

A strong adhesion of a silicon carbide (SiC) coating on a WC-Co substrate was achieved through an ion beam mixing technique and the corrosion resistance of the SiC coated WC-Co was investigated by means of a potentiodynamic electrochemical test. In the case of 1 M NaOH solution, a corrosion current density for a SiC coated WC-Co with a heat treatment at $500^{\circ}C$ displays about 50 times lower than that for the as-received WC-Co. However, in the case of 0.5 M H2SO4 solution, a corrosion current density for a SiC coated WC-Co displays about 3 times lower than that for as-received WC-Co. We discussed the physical reasons for the changes of the corrosion current densities at the different electrolytes.

Strong adhesion of a silicon carbide (SiC) coating to a WC-Co substrate was achieved through an ion beam mixing technique and the corrosion resistance of the SiC coated WC-Co was investigated by means of a potentiodynamic electrochemical test. In a 1 M NaOH solution, the corrosion current density of SiC-coated WC-Co after heat treatment at 500$^{\circ}C$ was about 50 times lower than that for the as-received WC-Co. In addition, the corrosion resistance systematically increases with increasing the SiC coating thickness. On the other hand, for a 0.5 M H2SO4 solution, the corrosion current density for SiC-coated WC-Co was about 3 times lower than that for the as-received WC-Co. We discuss the physical reasons for the changes in the corrosion current density with the different electrolytes.

A high-hardness tool material is required to reduce extreme abrasive wear when drilling carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). Single-crystal diamond is the hardest material in the world, but it is very expensive to be used as a cutting tool. Polycrystalline diamond (PCD) is a diamond grit fused at a high temperature and pressure, and diamond-like carbon (DLC) is an amorphous carbon with high hardness. This study compares DLC coatings and PCD inserts to conventional TiAlN-coated tungsten carbide drills. In fiberglass and carbon fiber reinforced polymer drilling, the tool wear of DLC-coated carbide was approximately half that of TiAlN-coated tools, and slight tool wear occurred in the case of PCD insert end drills.
This paper deals with the clay-bonded silicon carbide refractory saggars in terms of its oxidation resistance. Oxidation is one of the major causes of failure in silicon carbide refractory saggars during its services. Various anti-oxidation additives are coated on or added into silicon carbide refractories and their effects are studied while other conditions are equal. Several conclusions can be derived for optimum anti-oxidation additive as: 1. The additive should wet each silicon carbide grain completely during its firing. 2. The additive should have high viscosity at temperatures around $1, 350^{\circ}C$ where most silicon carbide refractory saggars are being used. 3. The additive should have ability to absorb or desorb oxygen depending on the local atmosphere inside of saggar during it service. 4. The addition should be kept as minimum as possible to prevent any "sweating" or "bloating" phenomena.ing" phenomena.mena.
Statement of problem: In order to increase preload with reducing the friction coefficient, abutment screws coated with pure gold and Teflon as dry lubricant coatings have been introduced. But the reported data indicate that if screw repeated tightening and loosening cycle, an efficiency of increasing preload was decreased by screw surface wearing off. Purpose: This study was to evaluate the influence of tungsten carbide/carbon coating, which has superior hardness and frictional wear resistance, on the preload of abutment screws and the stability of coating surface after repeated closures. Material and method: The rotational values of abutment screws and the compressive forces between abutment and fixture were measured in implant systems with three different joint connections, one external butt joint and two internal cones. Moreover the stability and the alteration of coating surface were examined by comparison of the compressive force and the removable torque values during 10 consecutive trials, observation with scanning electron microscope and analyzed the elemental composition with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy Results and conclusion: 1. Application of coating resulted in significant increase of compressive force in all implant systems(P<.05). The increasing rate of compressive force by coating in external butt joint was gloater than those in internal cones (P<.05). 2. Coated screw showed the significant additional rotation compared to non-coated screw in all implant systems (P<.05). There were no significant differences in the increasing rate of rotation among implant systems (P>.05). 3. Removable torque values were greater with non-coated screw than that with coated screw (P<.05). 4. Coated screw showed insignificant variations in the compressive forces during 10 consecutive trials(P>.05) 5. After repeated trials, the surface layer of coated screw was maintained relatively well. However surface wearing and irregular titanium fragments were found in non-coated screw.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate on the optimum coating thickness layer of TiC-Al$_2$O$_3$ coated cemented carbide tool. Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) of a thick film of TiC-A1$_2$O$_3$ on a cemented carbide produces an intermediate layer, $1.5mutextrm{m}$, 4.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 7.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ 10.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 4 kind of TiC between the substrate and the $1.5mutextrm{m}$ constant thick A1$_2$O$_3$ coating. Experiments were carried out with the test relationship between coating thickness and shear angle, surface roughness, cutting force, microphotograph of crater wear, flank wear, tool life. From the experimental results, it was found that the optimum coating thickness of TiC-A1$_2$O$_3$ is 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Although the coating thickness layer 9${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. 12${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ have a much loger tool wear than an 3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ coating tool in cutting condition feed 0.05mm/rev, and the condition of feed 0.2mm/rev, 0.3mm/rev has upon in the shot time phenomenon of chipping.
We report the preparation of nanocrystalline cobalt ferrite, $CoFe_2O_4$, particles using recycled $Co_3O_4$ and their surface coating with silica using micro emulsion method. Firstly, the $Co_3O_4$ powders were separated from waste cemented carbide with acid-base chemical treatment. The cobalt ferrite nanoparticles with the size 10 nm are prepared by thermal decomposition method using recycled $Co_3O_4$. $SiO_2$ was coated onto the $CoFe_2O_4$ particles by the micro-emulsion method. The $SiO_2$-coated $CoFe_2O_4$ particles were studied their physical properties and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution-transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis and CIE Lab value.
Wet wire drawing of brass coated steel wire, used for tire reinforcement, is realized with Tungsten Carbide(WC) dies sintered with a cobalt(Co) binder. Dies wear represents an important limitation to the production process and cost savings. Several parameters, such as Co content, WC grain size of tungsten carbide, sintering conditions, and so on, affect on the wear of the drawing die. In this study, the effect of the diamond abrasive particle size on the life of the WC centered dies of the wet wire drawing was investigated. Wet wire drawing experiments were carried out on a wet wire drawing machine. From the experiments, the dies life, dies fracture, wire surface roughness, and wire breaks were investigated. From the results, it was found that the wear of the WC dies increased with the increase in the diamond abrasive particle size.
