Purpose: Hip fractures are associated with increased mortality. The identification of risk factors of mortality could improve patient care. The aim of the study was to identify risk factors of mortality after surgery for a hip fracture and construct a mortality model. Materials and Methods: A cohort study was conducted on patients with hip fractures at two institutions. Five hundred and ninety-seven patients with hip fractures that were treated in the tertiary hospital, and another 147 patients that were treated in a secondary hospital. The perioperative data were collected from medical charts and interviews. Functional Assessment Measure score, Short Form-12 and mortality were recorded at 12 months. Patients and surgery variables that were associated with increased mortality were used to develop a mortality model. Results: Mortality for the whole cohort was 19.4% at one year. From the variables tested only age >80 years, American Society of Anesthesiologists category, time to surgery (>48 hours), Charlson comorbidity index, sex, use of anti-coagulants, and body mass index <25 kg/m2 were associated with increased mortality and used to construct the mortality model. The area under the curve for the prediction model was 0.814. Functional outcome at one year was similar to preoperative status, even though their level of physical function dropped after the hip surgery and slowly recovered. Conclusion: The mortality prediction model that was developed in this study calculates the risk of death at one year for patients with hip fractures, is simple, and could detect high risk patients that need special management.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of newly developed Large Pore Micro-Filtration (LPMF) membrane in Lab size for the application of water treatment, and to find its problems with solutions. The out-to-inside filtration hollow fiber LPMF membrane of which average pore size was $5{\mu}m$ was used at this study and its material was the PET braid reinforced PVDF. Filtration tests were done through gravity with 30 cm water head difference or pressure below 1.5 bar, and the backwash was done instantaneously with the filtrate after pressurizing it to about 4 bar. The water flux of the LPMF membrane with 0.2 bar TMP (Trans Membrane Pressure) was 2 times higher than $0.4{\mu}m$ MF membrane with $0.05{\mu}m$ UF filtrate of the tap water and it was measured also with 20~30 cm water head difference which showed over 800 LMH at 30 cm water head difference. And Time-To-Filter (TTF) was performed by using $5{\mu}m$ filter paper to optimize coagulants and dosage which enhanced filtrate's turbidity and stabilized filtration flux. When the LPMF was operated with 30 cm gravity with very high dose of inorganic coagulants, the flux was maintained over 80 LMH with 93.5~99.5% turbidity removal. Especially, the filtration was maintained stably in the flux and about 97% of the recovery rate by instantaneous pressurized backwash with about 4 bar of the filtrate when the packing density was about 19%. But there was instability in filtration, since the TMP was continuously going up by inefficient backwash when the packing density was 43%.
With the emergence of abnormal climate due to the rapid industrialization, the importance of water quality management and management costs are increasing every year. In Korea, for the management of total phosphorus and total nitrogen, the major materials causing the water quality pollution, coagulants are injected in sewage treatment plants to process organic compounds. However, if the coagulant is injected in an excessive amount to PAC (Poly Aluminium Chloride), a secondary pollution problem might occur. As such, a study on the applicability of natural material-based coagulant is being conducted in Korea. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the applicability of a mixed coagulant developed by analyzing water quality pollutants T-P, T-N as well as their turbidity, in order to derive the optimum mixing ratio between PAC and torrefied wood flour for the primary settling pond effluent. Under the condition where the content of PAC (10%) and torrefied wood flour is 1%, T-P showed the maximum removal efficiency of 92%, and T-N showed approximately 22%. This indicates that removal of T-N which includes numerous positively charged organic compounds that are equivalent to mixed coagulant is not well accomplished. Turbidity showed the removal efficiency of approximately 91%. As such, 1% of torrefied wood flour was determined to be the optimum addition. As a result of analyzing the removal efficiency for organic compounds by reducing PAC concentration to 7%, T-P showed a high maximum removal efficiency of 91%, T-N showed 32%, and turbidity showed the maximum of 90%. In addition, a coagulation process is performed by using the mixed coagulant based on 1% content of torrefied wood flour produced in this study by performing a coagulation performance comparative experiment with PAC (10%). As a result, PAC concentration was reduced to 30-50%, a similar performance with other coagulants in market was secured, PAC injection amount was reduced that an economic effect can be achieved, and it is considered to perform a stable water treatment that reduces the secondary pollution problem.
Some quality characteristics of tofu prepared with cuttlefish ink were investigated to study the effects of various of coagulants. Each concentration of coagulant was determined as 0.2% of GDL, 0.3# of $MgCl_2$, 1%^ of $CaCl_2$, 1.5% of $CaSO_4$ and 0.6% D-gluconic acid calcium by pre-experiment. Also, the optimum concentration of added cuttlefish ink was chosen as 3%(diluted in twenty times). The yield of inky tofu prepared with GDL as coagulant was the highest. According to prepared with $MgCl_2$ was the highest. The result of microstructure was examined by SEM, the particles of inky tofu coagulated with GDL and D-gluconic acid calcium were small and uniformity. In overall acceptability of sensory properties, inky tofu coagulated with GDL was the highest in score. In the color of inky tofu, L value and a value were the highest coagulated with GDL, but that coagulated with $CaCl_2$ had the highest b value. In the texture properties of inky tofu, hardness, gumminess and brittleness were the highest coagulated with D-gluconic acid calcium. A positive correlation was observed between the pH of tofu whey and acidity. Sensory properties of roasted nutty flavor, hardness, cohesiveness and springiness were positively correlated with the acceptability.
This study was carried out to find the optimum coagulation conditions for ceramic microfiltration process of Y water treatment plant. When pH of raw water from Y Dam was adjusted to 7, the efficiency of coagulation was the best and the optimun dosage of coagulant was 3 mg/L(as $Al_2O_3$) for turbidity of raw water less then 10 NTU in Jar test. In mini module test, the decay rate of specific flux was the lowest when PAC (poly Aluminum Chloride) was used among coagulants and pH was adjusted to 7. The decay rate of specific flux for raw water turbidity of 10~30 NTU was greatly decreased with increase of dosage of coagulant (PAC) while the rate was not significantly decreased for turbidity more than 50 NTU. In conclusion, the optimum dosage of PAC (11% as $Al_2O_3$) was 30 and 50 mg/L for raw water turbidity of less than 10 NTU and more than 50 NTU, respectively. The dosage of PAC should be increased linearly 30 to 50 mg/L depending on raw water turbidity of 10 to 50 NTU.
Particulate matters of PM2.5, particularly focusing on 0.1~1 ㎛ decrease the efficiency of dust-collector due to the brownian-motion. This study is to verify the effect of coagulant on the particle size distributions of potassium and PM2.5. The activated coagulant was spayed to the coal fired fluidized bed combustion boiler by the weight ratio of 1,200 : 1 = coal : coagulant, and the size distributions of captured particles at both the cyclone (FP) and electrostatic precipitator (EP) were measured. As the result of XRP analysis, the potassium content of FP increased to 13.33% (averagely from 1.65% to 1.87%) and, in EP at 17.68% (averagely from 1.65% to 2.03%). And it was confirmed by the particle size distribution analyzer and SEM image analysis that the distribution rates of PM2.5 decreased at 89.53% on average in FP, and at 88.57% in EP. The total dust concentration (mg/㎥) confirmed by tele-monitering system (TMS) decreased during the primary test from 2.6 to 1.7~1.9 and also the secondary test from 2.9 to 1.7~1.9.
In order to prepare SPI tofu without compression step, amounts of water added to SPI suspension was studied for textural properties of uncompressed SPI tofu prepared by first heating at $100^{\circ}C$ for 6 minutes and second heating at $75^{\circ}C$ for 25 minutes and use of $CaSO_{4}-GDL$(0.07g, 0.0075 g/g SPI) as coagulants. The hardness and uniformity were gradually increased as the water addition ratio $(gH_{2}O/g\;SPI)$ raised from 6.0 to 8.0 and cohesiveness was rather decreased. The increase in second heating time increased the hardness and gumminess and relativity higher values in hardness were measured for those tofu heated at $85^{\circ}C$ than those at $75^{\circ}C$ or $95^{\circ}C$. A multiple regression equation calculated and RSM figure showed that the effects of water addition ratio was become to be less as the heating time and temperature increased. Addition of 8 g of water per g SPI and second heating at $85^{\circ}C$ for $30{\sim}60$ minutes were found as optimal conditions to prepare uncompressed SPI tofu.
This study was conducted to remove the dyes in dye wastewater by the chemical precipitation or biological treatment which are one of the main pollutants in dye wastewater. In order to remove the disperse dyes effectively in aqueous solution by chemical precipitation process, coagulation and flocculation tests were carried out using several coagulants on various reaction conditions. It was found that the Ferrous sulfate was the most effective coagulant for the removal of disperse dye(DB79), and we could get the best result for the removal of disperse dye(DB56) in the aspects of TOC removal efficiency and sludge yield. When the Ferrous sulfate dosage was 800mg/l, the sludge settling velocity was very fast$(SV_{30}=4\%)$, and the color was effectively removed in the disperse dye(DB79) solution. Although the color removal was ineffective when the Alum was used as a coagulant, the sludge yield decreased in comparison with the Ferrous sulfate or the Ferric sulfate being used in the disperse dye(DB56) solution. In order to decolorize disperse dye(DR17) by using biological treatment process, a strain which has potential ability to degrade disperse dyes was isolated from natural system. The optimal culture conditions of temperature and pH were found to be $40^{\circ}C\;and\;8.5\~9$, respectively. When yeast extract was mixed with polypeptone at the mixing ratio of 1:1 as a nitrogen source, decolorization efficiency was highest$(93\%)$ among the nitrogen sources. The strain screened was excellent to adjust to pH, and it seems to have ability to control pH needed to growth. The optimal culture conditions in concentration of $MgSO_{4.}\cdot7H_2O\;and\;KH_2PO_4$ were $0.1\%(w/v)\;and\;0.2\%(w/v)$, respectively. Strains degrading and decolorizing reactive dyes, RB198 and RR141 which were isolated from water system, are named RBK1 and RRK. And the cell growth characteristics of RBK1 and RRK were investigated. The optimal culture conditions of temperature and pH were found to be 30t' and 7.0, respectively. Optimum nitrogen source was peptone, and it was found that decolorization efficiencies by strains RBK1 and RRK, were $85\%\;and\;62\%$, respectively, with introduction of 4,000mg/l of peptone. In the case of RBK1, color removal efficiencies were very high below 400mg/l. Decolorization efficiency was over $90\%$ at 20hours of culture time. The Color degradation ability of RRK was lower than that of RBK1.
Soybean curd was prepared using cuttlebone powder treated with acetic acid (ATC), and its characteristics were determined. Soybean protein was coagulated by adding calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, and ATC at 0.7, 1.2, and 0.9%, respectively, or higher. Yield, white index, texture, and sensory evaluations revealed the optimal concentration of ATC for preparation of soybean curd was 2.0% of total soybean weight. The proximate compositions of soybean curd prepared by adding 2.O% ATC were 75.9%, 12.6%, 1.9%, 5.3%, 6.60, and $1.0×10^4$ CFU/g in for moisture, crude protein, crude ash, crude lipid, pH, and viable cell count, respectively. Although white index and mineral content of both soybean curds were similar, texture of ATC-prepared soybean curd was superior to that of soybean curd prepared with 1.5% calcium chloride.

In this study, we developed an M-COS (molit coagulant-dosing optimization system), which enables to apply the optimum coagulant dose determined in real time, in order to satisfy the total phosphorus (TP) regulation (0.5 mg/L), and then tested its field applicability. Field tests were conducted at three different periods in 2014 in a pilot plant where the M-COS was installed. Coagulant reduction rate by the M-COS was 10.4%, 15.3%, and 9.0% for each period (average 11.6%), when comparing with a control where coagulants were applied at a constant rate. Total cost for the M-COS or control was estimated by summing up the coagulant cost and sludge treatment cost, and then the resulting cost increase was predicted. Cost reduction rate by the M-COS was 13.8%, 20.0%, and 11.4% for each period (average 15.0%). This study indicates that the M-COS can be an alternative to a conventional system for TP treatment, with a better cost efficiency.
