  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of the thermally different states of human feet on temperature regulation in winter season. Five healthy female students of age 20 volunteered as subjects to participate in the study. Physiological responses such as rectal temperature and skin temperatures as well as subjective responses of thermal comfort and thermal sensation were observed. Preferred clothing and preferred temperature were also evaluated in terms of behavioral temperature regulation. The results obtained through the experiment were statistically analyzed using paired t test. Rectal temperature was decreased greater (p<.01) and mean skin temperature was maintained higher (p<.01) in feet wanning than in feet cooling. Results of preferred clothing were coincident with those of general thermal sensation. There was a higher tendency to prefer temperature in feet wanning than feet cooling in the morning. It was concluded that keeping feet skin temperature lower in the early morning and higher in the late evening would be effective in terms of regulating circadian rhythm of core temperature.

  • To be able to work safely and efficiency, the Threshold Limit Values (TLV) for work in the heat are widely used. Since these TLV are only applicable to workers in regular clothing, TLV should be adjusted when applied to the asbestos removal workers who wear extra impermeable protective clothing. Although abbreviated guidelines for heat stress exposure have been proposed, literature advocating their use in the asbestos removal industry is limited. Therefore, we planed a survey to evaluate the workload of asbestos abatement workers in summer, and an experiment with climatic chambers to evaluate the effects of resting in a cool environment between work periods. From these studies, we got following conclusions. There is a high risk of suffering from heat illness by asbestos abatement work in summer in Japan. It is proposed to create a cool room inside the workplace of asbestos abatement work to reduce thermal stress.

  • To do this study, we produced cooling vest newly. Rectal temperature was ascended approximately from 37.2$^{\circ}C$ to 38.05$^{\circ}C$ in lab, but wearing cooling vest, the temperature was descended 0.2 while wearing developed product compare with existing product. Mean skin temperature which was showed distribution from 32.8∼36.5$^{\circ}C$, it was descended 1.0∼1.1$^{\circ}C$, while wearing cooling vest and comparing with existing product, wearing developed product was lower 0.5$^{\circ}C$, While wearing developed product, it was found that they had lower tendency than exiting product. Specifically in case of temperature within clothing(chest) 0.2∼2.0$^{\circ}C$ in case of humidity within clothing 2∼8% RH. Facts from above we confirmed that clothing microclimate had been improved and space was happened between body and garment in order to control. In subjective sensation, existing product made negative response during experiment period from participants, but developed product was nearing to comfortable area.

  • Health care wearables are devices that are attached to or combined with the human body to improve the health care capabilities of the human body that can be safely and adjustable according to preference. This study provided direction for future research on healthcare wearables in the field of clothing science, considering trends observed in this field from 2010 to 2019. Over the last 10 years, 812 studies have been conducted on healthcare wearables in Korea. Research has increased significantly since 2015, with a large number of articles published in this field. The research for this study was broken down into the following categories: technology development, marketing analysis, and technology analysis. The results according to the research method demonstrated that development and production methods were used most frequently, followed by trend analysis, experiment and evaluation, and survey. An analysis of keywords in the articles studied revealed that device, healthcare, big data (biometric data and database), and healthcare convergence technologies were trending. Similarly, detailed research on healthcare wearable devices and related technologies was actively being conducted. However, focusing on fiber, textiles, design, and clothing articles, in relation to the field of clothing in healthcare wearables, only 81 articles were found on this topic (10.0%), which was low compared to other studies. Therefore, it was determined that more research on healthcare wearables is necessary in the field of clothing.

  • This study selects representative materials and sewing methods used to: produce medical compression clothing in domestic garment, understand physical properties according to sewing conditions before and after knitting, and propose a sewing method that can improve the functional properties of the medical pressure clothing for burn patients. This experiment used samples from two knitted fabrics of high-frequency, produced and sold among fabrics used to produce medical compression clothing in Korea. Sewing methods were N321, N502 and N601, most commonly used in the press clothing industry. Fabric A is most often reduced in EMT values when sewing N502. However, N321 and N502 are suitable sewing methods for the reliable to twist at the larger torsional shear and the larger 2HG, 2HG5 value. Fabric B is sewn with N601, the EMT value is the most elevated, LT value is also low and extensibility improves after sewing. N601 is shown as an appropriate sewing method for warp knitting. When sewing with N321, the torsional is stable but elongation is lacking. N502 is not good for torsional stability.

  • The purpose of this research was to device thermal comfort model for radiation power plant workers in protective clothing. Three fabrics commonly used in protective workwear were made into coveralls of identical design and were evaluated by adult healthy males in four simulated work environment. It was investigated between the physiological response and subjects comfort according to environmental variance and clothing types. The of simulated work enviro mensent was controlled under four different humidity and temperature of each type. (Temperature 20±1℃, RH 40∼70%±5%, Temperature 30±1℃, RH 40∼70%±5%) An index of physiological response was connected with the thermal comfort designed. Mean skin temperature, skim temperature, Axillasy temperature ear canal temperature, clothing climate, total sweat, blood pressure, and R-R interval were be evaluated. Skin temperature difference ocurring during exercise and rest were significant only with respect to time and regions of the body, This despite physical differences in the three coveralls, particulary mass statistically experiment. Also, an index of subject wearing sensation was designed for thermal comfort after investigation determined the kind of clothes and the type of environment. As a result of this research, two types of multiple regressions was deviced to estimate thermal comfort of the protective clothing.

  • This study aimed to compare the cooling effect of specific body parts to increase workers' thermal comfort. The parts to be cooled comprised the head and neck; the coolant was a phase change material. The participants were ten men in their 20s of average size according to the 8th Size Korea. The experiment was conducted under the following conditions: 28.0 ± 0.5℃, 60.0 ± 5.0% RH, and 0.2 ± 0.1m/s. The exercise consisted of participants moving for 15 min at a constant speed of 80 BPM; later, a subjective sensation was performed, and the clothing surface temperature was measured. In doing so, heat, wetness, and discomfort after exercise were confirmed to have increased without a coolant. Significant differences over time appeared only when no coolant was used, showing that thermal comfort decreased. Despite the addition of coolant, the clothing surface temperature gradually increased over time, but it decreased with coolant rather than without it. Therefore, additional coolant areas, a lower temperature, and simultaneous cooling convection were required to improve thermal comfort.

  • The purpose of this study was to search for comfortable protective clothing for waste incinerator workers. The experimental protective clothing came in two types: one whose outer side made use of polypropylene film, and the inner side, a non-woven rayon fabric processed with charcoal with a 10% density (CF): and one whose outer side made use of polyolefine and polyamide films, and the inner side, a non-woven polypropylene fabric (NNCF). Experiments were conducted on five healthy adult women whose average age was 21. These experiments were conducted at a climate chamber, in which the temperature and relative humidity were set below $28{\pm}1^{\circ}C\;and\;50{\pm}10%$, respectively. Measured were the rectal temperature, the skin temperature, the sweating rate, the weight loss, the heart rate, the blood pressure, the temperature, and the relative humidity of a microclimate and subjective sensation. These were measured within a period of 60 min, consisting of a 20-min stable period, a 20-min exercise period (walking exercise for 2 miles/hr on a treadmill), and a 20-min recovery period. Through this experiment, the differences between the human body's physiological reactions to CF and NNCF clothing, and the human body's comfort levels when wearing these, were determined.

  • This study investigates thermoregulatory behaviors of obese children for their thermal comfort. Nine normal-weight children (NWC) and nine obese children (OC) participated in the study. All subjects were fourth-graders and sixth-graders in elementary school. An informed consent form was obtained from each child and his or her mother. The questionnaire method was used, and the experiment was conducted to determine the preferred amount of clothing at $17^{\circ}C$ and the preferred temperature at $33^{\circ}C$. According to the results, OC were more susceptible to heat than NWC, whereas there was no significant difference in their susceptibility to cold. There were no significant differences of the oral temperature and the mean skin temperature between the two groups, but changes in forearm blood flow were less in OC than in NWC. There was no significant difference in the preferred amount of clothing between OC and NWC, and the preferred temperature was higher in NWC than in OC. The results based on the questionnaire are consistent with those based on the experiment. A compositive study of physical exercise, eating behavior, and wearing behavior should be useful for developing programs for preventing and treating obese children.
