In this study, color names focusing on the purple series, appearing in the clothing of the Joseon Dynasty, were classified systematically, and the conceptual meaning of each name were investigated through various methods. The results are as follows; First, the color names of purple-series were classified systematically. According to the integration scheme of morphemes, color names could be divided into two categories; single names and composite names. Color names could also be classified into universal and limited names according to the areal distribution of literatures. Secondly, the conceptual meaning of the color names of purple-series were considered. The conceptual meaning could be divided into two categories; one 'etymological and dyeing methodological meaning', the other 'color systematic meaning' By studying the dictionary definition of color names, comparing and analyzing the material composition of colors, the etymological and dyeing methodological meaning could be grasped. Furthermore, the color systematic meaning of each name could be grasped through the cluster analysis of L*, a*, b* values measured from the relics of clothing. Thirdly, the conceptual semantic structure were established on the basis of conceptual meanings of purple-series color names. The conceptual semantic structure of purple-series color names is forming discrete structure with the dyeing method and material of dyes as their semantic components.
This study aimed to provide the basic data of the establishment of marketing strategies by dividing consumer groups in accordance with the pursuit of clothing benefit, and then understanding the importance of clothing selection criteria in those groups, whether there are any differences in it between groups, and whether there are any differences in preference of clothing color depending on the mood state of those groups. The scale of this study was comprised of the pursuit of clothing benefit factors, clothing selection criteria factors, and the factors related to preference of clothing color by each mood state. In the results of the analysis, the factor most considered when male and female consumers in 20s~30s purchase clothing was fitting, and followed by convenience, stable shape, condition, design, and others' reaction in order. However, those 'design', 'convenience', 'others' reaction' and 'condition' factors were significantly different between groups. Therefore, the significance of this study is that fashion brands could develop new positioning maps for marketing and promotional strategies based on the pursuit of clothing benefit shown in this study.
In this study, We endeavored to revaluate the effects of different types of clothing and colors on clothing microclimate in the subjects wearing sports wear at sunlight environment. This study was conducted 4 different kinds (cotton 100%) of clothing ensembles, that was W-1(long trousers and shirt of white color), B-1 (long trousers and shirt of black color), W-s (short trousers and shirt white color), B-s (short trousers and shirt black color) and were done in a climate chamber under sunlight ambient temperature ($33.67{\pm}1.8^{\circ}C$, $46.0{\pm}8.5%RH$) by three males subject who are in good healthy. Start a 20-min rest period, 20-min bouts of exercise and final 20-min recovery period were performed. The kinetic load was given for 20 minutes under the condition of 6.0 km/hr walking speed on the treadmill. The results is as followed In case of same type of garment, temperature within clothing which is based on difference of color the white ensemble keeps higher temperature than black one. According to distribution chart of temperature within clothing in case of chest, white one shows higher temperature than black one, in case of back, black one shows higher temperature than white one. Difference of heart rate was so clear and sequence is W-1>B-1>W-s>B-s, so we could find same tendency with temperature within clothing.
This study is designed to find women's makeup color preferences according to their pursuing clothing image and clothing behavior. Subjects were 515 women. from 18 years to 40 years old, who are interested in color makeup and use various products. The SPSS statistical program was used for analyzing the demonstrative results of questionnaire survey. The results of this study are as follows : 1. According to color makeup preference by the pursuing image in clothing. those groups who want to have conservative and neat image and who prefer feminine and intellectual image showed the preference of brown lipsticks and eye-shadows, while groups who want to have vivid image preferred orange lipsticks and pink eye-shadows. 2. In the case of casuals, all groups preferred pink eye-shadows and lipsticks. While those groups who want to have intellectual image preferred brown lines after pint groups who want to have sexy and vivid image preferred orange and red lipsticks and blue and green eye- shadows. 3. In preference comparison of color makeup by clothing behavior, those groups who attach practicality, symbol for social status. and social acknowledgment preferred red and brown lipsticks, and brown eye-shadows. 4. In the case of wearing casuals, all groups liked pink eye-shadows and lipsticks the best. whereas the group who want to have social acknowledgment Preferred beige lipsticks and brown eye-shadows.
Nineteen stimulus photograghs varied in hue and color scheme of one clothing style of Korean dress worn by a female were used to investigate the effect of color color scheme and structure on impression formation for Korean dress. Subjects were 77 male and 86 female undergraduate and graduate students. The stimuli c9onsisted of two sets(cool and warm) of four similar color schemes two sets (cool and warm in Chima color) of five contrasting color schemes and one extra stimulus triad 3 hue base. Structures were de-fined by color schemes of Kit.Korum toward the color schemes of Jokori and Chima. Stimu-lus photogragh selected from Korean dress fashion magazines was managed and varied in hues and color schemes to Kit Korum Jokori and Chima according to Korean Standard Color through scanning and Adobe photoshop 3.0 program and then pictured through slide printer(HR-6000). Each subject assessed 19 stimulus color photographs with incorporated 7 point semantic differential response scale. The data were analyzed by frequency mean factor analysis t-test ANOVA and Scheffe test. Results indicate impression ofrmations are af-fected by clothing cues. 1) Four factors emerged to account for dimensional structure of impressions of female features on Korean dress. These four factors were titled as(1) preference.evaluation (2) individuality.attention (3) youth and (4) friendshio. The preference.evaluation factor was the largest including eleven adjectives and accounting for 29.62% of the variances. 2) Almost every clothing cue(color, color scheme, structure) had some effects on im-pressions formed But the color of Chima did not form the effects on impression of prefer-ence.evaluation factor. The effect of related color scheme was the most influential clothing cue on impressions of preference.evalation factor and friendship factor whereas the ef-fect of contrasting color scheme was the most influential clothing cue on impressions of indi-viduality.attention factor and youth factor. The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of clothing style and color of male casual wear on image perceptions and age evaluations. $4{\times}2$ (top color${\times}$trouser color) and $2{\times}3{\times}2$ (clothing style${\times}$clothing hue${\times}$clothing chroma) factorial designs were used as the experiment designs. Photoshop program was used to manipulate the clothing colors after creating photos of models wearing experiment clothing for stimulus. Subjects were 280 female college students from Seoul region and each subject responded to two stimuli. Factor analysis showed four factors of images of male casual wear; sociability, conspicuousness, softness and masculinity. Polo shirts were evaluated higher in sociability and softness than jumpers and nary blue trousers were evaluated higher in masculinity than beige trousers. High chroma clothing was assessed higher in sociability and conspicuousness than low chroma clothing. High chroma red jumpers displayed very sociable feel and low chroma blue jumpers displayed the lowest sociability. High chroma male clothing resulted in younger age perception but age was evaluated young when a black shirt was worn under the jacket when wearing a low chroma jacket.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of clothing cues (color, color scheme, structure) on impression formation by perceiver personality variable. The subjects were consisted of 77 male and 86 female undergraduate and graduate students. The experimental inventories for this study were a set of stimuli, a response scale, standardized MBTI. The stimuli were eighteen photographs and one extra photograph of a female wearing Korean dress, Chima and Jokori-varied in hue (cool, warm), color scheme (related schemes, con- trasting schemes) of the same silhouette. Results indicate that the most affecting perceiver's personality variables on impression effects were judging-perceiving traits and extraversion -introversion traits. The interaction effects were most frequently appeared between color scheme (clothing cues) and perceiver's personality traits. The impression factors which were most affected by perceiver's personality traits variables were preference· evaluation factor and individuality· attention factor.
Cycling has become a popular leisure activity, and many cycling enthusiasts have used cycling clothes as a form of expression, which often comes in wide range of colors. The study shows the importance of color in cycling clothing to meet the emotional needs of consumers. Furthermore, this study aims to provide comparative analysis between color of domestic and overseas cycling clothing brands, and color preference of Korean consumers in order to provide data, which can be used in satisfying consumers' needs for personal expression and emotional demands. Thus, the study expects to identify consumers' satisfaction for cycling clothing. The consumers were categorized by the frequency of cycling and their interest in fashion, and the following categories were made:potential consumers, casual cyclists with low fashion involvement, casual cyclists with high fashion involvement and frequent cyclists with high fashion involvement. Consumers preferred dark colors for their cycling clothing including jacket, top and pants, while 'frequent cyclists with high fashion involvement' preferred more diverse colors and tones. In the cycling clothing market, white and black were major colors, while red, orange and blue were major colors of chromatic color. In terms of shade, dark shade dominated the market. Comparing between preferred color and preferred product color, black was preferred for both, but no other colors showed such tendency. This study is based on empirical analysis and verification of color, which is the emotional element appealing to specific and segmented sports-apparel market. The study revealed that the data could be applicable to the design of future products.
The purpose of this study was to identify 1) the effect of two contexts (job interview, Informal outing) and clothing cues (type, style, color) on male impresssions 2) the effect of perceiver's age on male impressions created by the clothing cues and contexts. The subjects consisted of 256 male undergraduate students and 256 middle-aged men. The experimental materials developed for this study were a set of stimuli and response scales. The stimuli were 8 color photographs of drawings of a male figure in clothing which were manipulated in two levels, each of three clothing cues including type, style and color. The experimental design was full factorial design of $(2^4contex^2{\times}clothing type^2{times}clthing color^2$. Each of the 16 sub-samples includes 16 subjects from the two perceiver group. Questionnaires used to measure perceivers responses to the stimuli were 7-point semantic differential scales composed of 37 bipolar adjectives representing personal traits. The data was processed by factor analysis, ANOVA, multiple classification analysis, Duncan's multiple range test. The major findings drawn from this study were as follows: 1. Three factors emerged to account for the dimensional structure of the impressions of the male figure in clothing in two social situations. These factors involved evaluation, activity and uniqueness. 2. The contexts, clothing types and clothing styles had significant effects on evaluation, activity and uniqueness. The clothing styles had a considerable effect on both evaluation and uniqueness while the clothing types affected activity. The clothing color had least effect on the impression and had only moderate effect on evaluation. 3. Perceiver's age influenced impressions formed by the social contexts and clothing cues. Male college students were least affected by contexts and clothing cues, while middle-aged men wert affected most.
This study is to demonstrate purple color characteristics by analyzing various purple clothing from Antiquity to modern fashion. In this respect, both documentary and investigative studies have been performed. Through, the documentary studies, the changes and examples of purple clothing were scrutinized, and images of purple were classified based on the Color Image Scale. Purple color samples applied during a period from 1993 to 1996, were collected from 33 women's domestic brands, and the colors were measured by the CE 7000 spectrophotometer and analyzed by Munsell HV/C. The results were shown as follows; 1. In Antiquity, the symbolic value of purple was heavenly color, because it was a bearer of light, a sign of the epiphany of the gods. 2. With the advent of synthetic dyes, purples were in the vanguard. This chemical synthesis gave purple, historically a regal prerogative, to the people, and enjoyed a memorable vogue in the mid-mineteenth century. 3. The purple images in fashion were changed by the factors such as culture-art, technological advances, political-economical situations, sports ect., and appears in modern fashion romantic, natural elegance, classic, gorgeous, chic, and dandy images. 4. In the result of analytical study on women's purple dress in domestic market, 10PB hue and P tone were mosetly used from 1993 to 1996.
