Objectives: There are substantial variations on the methods of identifying Sa-sang typology in clinical practice. This review aimed to describe the clinical experiences on the classification of Sa-sang typology based on index signs for practice of Tae-Geuk acupuncture. Methods: Core physical signs and interpretation of treatment response for the classification of Sa-sang typology are suggested based on 42-year clinical experiences of the expert (the first author). Results: Epigastric tenderness and hepatic dullness sound are the most important physical sign in the classification of Sa-sang typology. Clinical experiences indicate that there may be a positive association between the presence of epigastric tenderness and hepatic dullness sound. Four sets of acupuncture points are matched for four types of Sa-sang institution, respectively. Appropriate match will resolve epigastric tenderness and hepatic dullness sound, while this will not happen if inappropriate match is employed. Conclusion: I suggest that two physical signs (i.e., epigastric tenderness and hepatic dullness sound) are essential for the classification of Sa-sang typology in Tae-Geuk acupuncture.
PURPOSE: This research investigated clinical hazardous components and analyzed the proportion of sarcopenia among young Korean women. METHODS: The cross-sectional study included 1,236 women aged 20 to 29 years, categorized into two groups according to their skeletal muscle mass index (SMI). Of these, 20 participants were placed in the sarcopenia group, while 1,216 were included in the normal group. The analysis involved hazardous components including body dimensions, clinical indicators, and behavioral trait variables: height, weight, body mass index, waist circumference, skeletal muscle mass index, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, blood laboratory tests assessing fasting glucose, triglycerides, total cholesterol, as well as smoking habits and alcohol consumption. Complex sampling analysis was used to analyze the proportion and hazardous components of sarcopenia. RESULTS: The proportion of sarcopenia was at 1.76% (95% of CI: 1.08-2.83). Anthropometric measurements, such as height, BMI, and WC, exhibited significant differences between the groups (p < .05). However, there was no significant difference in weight (p > .05) between the two groups. Among the clinical indicators, SBP, DBP, FBG, serum triglycerides, and total TC found to be significant hazardous components for sarcopenia within both groups (p < .05). Smoking status as a behavioral trait was significant as well (p < .05), unlike alcohol consumption (p > .05). CONCLUSION: This study discerned both the proportion of sarcopenia and the hazardous components associated with it among community-dwelling women of a young age.
This test was performed to evaluate the ocular and skin irritation of EPO (Erythropoietin). The results as follows: 1. Ocular irritation test There were no observed clinical signs, body weght changes by EPO during experimental period. The acute ocular irritation index(A.O.I.), mean ocular irritation index(M.O.I.) and Day-7 individual ocular irritation index(I.O.I.) of EPO at dose of 1000U and 10, 000U were 0, respectively. Therefore we evaluated that EPO was non-toxic to eyes. 2. Skin irritation test There were no observed clinical signs, body weght changes and gross pathologic findings by EPO during experimental period. There were no observed erythema, eschar formation and edema formation on intact and abraded skin treated by EPO. The primary irritation index(P.I.I.) of EPO at dose of 1000U and 10, 000U were 0, respectively and were evaluated none irritating product about skin irritation.
Objectives In human, there is a diversity in the breathing pattern, for instance inspiratory and expiratory time, volume, breathing frequency, and breath-to-breath variation. Expecially, respiratory variability can provide important information about breathing regulation and physiological flexibility. it is significant to not only breathing index but also physiological index. Methods Thus this paper reviews the literature on respiratory variability with the aim of clinical application. Results We could find the interrelationships and respiratory variability between emotions, psychopathy, sighing, mental and physical activity. Conclusions As a result, respiratory variability can serve an important physiological index in the clinical area and reflects how our bodies act in diverse environments under various condition.
Estimating by clinical index the efficacy of three cases, where chewing gum is mixed with nanoparticle containing chlorhexidine, where chewing gum doesn't contain neither of them, and where with chlorhexidine only, this study has come to the following conclusion. 1. The chewing gum with chlorhexidine and chlorhexidine nanoparticle has shown more reduction of plaque index and gingival index than that with no chlorhexidine. 2. There could be seen a difference between the gum with chlorhexidine and the gum with chlorhexidine nanoparticle. 3. The gum with chlorhexidine nanoparticle has shown less level of plaque index than that chlorhexidine, which difference was only slight. 4. The gum with chlorhexidine nanoparticle wasn't absorved any tooth coloring. To put these results together, it is proposed that mixing chewing gum with chlorhexidine nanoparticle can be an efficient application.
Objectives: This study aimed to identify the characteristics of the heart rate variability (HRV) index in patients with burning mouth syndrome (BMS) and to evaluate the predictive value of HRV for Korean medical treatment responsiveness to tongue pain in BMS. Methods: Among BMS patients who visited the Oral Diseases Clinic of Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital from January 1, 2018, to May 31, 2021, we reviewed the clinical records of 217 women aged 50 years and over. HRV and unstimulated saliva flow rate (USFR) measurements were carried out, and all patients were asked to indicate their degree of tongue pain using the visual analog scale (VAS). The subjects were classified into subgroups according to the presence or absence of hyposalivation and VAS improvement, and each subgroup was compared using the HRV index. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to confirm whether cause-effect relationships were present between statistically significant values. Results: BMS patients had lower LF and HF than healthy people. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that there were some statistically significant differences in the HRV index according to salivation rate and degree of pain. In addition, as the LF/HF ratio increased, the pain improvement rate decreased after treatment. Conclusion: The autonomic nerve activity of BMS patients was lower than that of healthy people; however, autonomic balance was not impaired. In addition, tongue pain in BMS patients responded more favorably to Korean medical treatment when patients fell within a normal range of the LF/HF ratio, suggesting that autonomic imbalance could be used as one of the predictable factors in clinical practice.
이러한 중요성에 따라 자외선 차단제 평가시험은 1978 년 Fod and Drug Administration (FDA)에서 규정을 마련한 이후, 현재는 International Organization For Standardization (ISO)에서 표준화된 방법까지 발전되었다.
Objective: This case report describes an 82-year-old man complaining of insomnia with pain after discontinuation of quetiapine. Methods: The patient was treated with the herbal extraction Gilchogeun-dan, and symptomatic improvement was assessed using the Korean version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Results: Following 28 days of Gilchogeun-dan treatment, the patient's symptoms improved. Conclusions: This case suggests that Gilchogeun-dan could be effective in treating insomnia with pain through central nervous depressant activity and analgesic effect.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of dentifrice containing 0.1% extracts of garlic on dental plaque and gingivitis in a double blind and crossover clinical studies in 33 healthy adults aged from 20 to 22 years who provided a consent for their participation. Oral examination was performed through clinical periods and on day of baseline, 6, 13, 19, 25 days plaque index and gingival index were scored by Turesky' modified index and L$\ddot{o}$e & Silness index. After 12, 19, 25 days use of their respective dentifrices, statistically decreases of plaque index, gingival index were shown in both the experimental and the control group, respectively, Experimental group exhibited significantly the lower plaque levels and the higher levels of gingival health by the use of the dentifrices contained extract of garlic from 12 days compare with control group(p<0.05). The degree of decrease was more significant on gingivitis level of the experimental group than the control group(p <0.05). This result indicate that the use of dentifrice containing extract of garlic has a positve effect in preventing plaque and gingivitis and treating periodontal diseases.
A new body adiposity index (BAI) has been proposed that is expected to replace body mass index (BMI). We evaluated the correlations between metabolic syndrome risk factors and BAI, BMI, and other adiposity indices, such as waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), by sex in the Korean population. We also evaluated whether BAI would be useful to diagnose metabolic syndrome. A total of 20,961 Korean adults who underwent health examinations were included in this study. The metabolic syndrome diagnostic criteria used in this study were those set by the American Heart Association/National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (AHA/NHLBI). In men (12,719), BMI and WHtR were more strongly correlated to metabolic syndrome risk than BAI, and in women (8,242), WHtR showed the strongest association with metabolic syndrome risk. BAI (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.678) presented lower discriminatory capacity than that of BMI (AUC = 0.836) for diagnosing metabolic syndrome. Moreover, BAI underestimated fat levels in men and women when considering the ability to discriminate overweight and obese individuals. In conclusion, WHtR and BMI in men, and WHtR in women may be better candidates than BAI to evaluate metabolic risk factors in Korean adults.
