According to the advance that solar power plants go into the desert, power plants are getting greater capacity. The desert is unspoiled resources and it is well suited to build a solar power plant, because of abundant solar radiation and long sunshine duration. but existing PV modules have several weaknesses and don't generate lower the rated power, because it wasn't designed to produce in extreme environments like a desert climate. The one of the weaknesses of PV modules is that the characteristics of the temperature of the Encapsulants(EVA sheet) are not good in a desert climate, because the EVA sheet is melt at high temperature. In this study, a decrease phenomenon of the transmittance depending on the melting point of the Encapsulant(PV module using EVA sheet : $75^{\circ}C$ PV module using PVB film : $110^{\circ}C$) is suggested, it would be the one of the important factors to achieve rated output of the PV modules in high temperature climate regions.
This study investigated the protective effects of shade nets on Abies koreana seedlings subjected to high temperature and luminosity stress, which are pertinent for plant survival in climate change scenarios. This study, conducted at Konkuk University, compared the growth, survival, and soil conditions of 3-year-old specimens across natural, greenhouse, and shaded settingsfrom July to September 2022. Our findings demonstrated that shade nets significantly enhanced seedling survival by moderating soil temperature and moisture. This is particularly evident in high-temperature conditions, where shade nets mitigate stress on seedlings and safeguard them from excessive sunlight exposure. Proper net installation height and location are crucial for optimal temperature and humidity control, suggesting broader applicability for various species and offering strategies to combat the ecological impacts of climate change.
In this research, the change of Korean middle-school science education environments is investigated through analyzing eighth graders' survey data collected over the past 20 years of TIMSS. We extracted educational context variables that provide meaningful information on changes of Korean science education, and have been surveyed more than 3 study cycles up to TIMSS 2015. The selected educational context variables include school resources and school climate from the school principal's questionnaires, and teacher characteristics and instructional activities from the teacher's questionnaires. For each context variable, we analyzed its trend over TIMSS cycles, and discussed its implications in light of Korean educational policy and curriculum changes. Based on the results, we recommended several ways that help to improve science teaching and learning in light of lab assistants, computer availability, teacher learning community, and middle school Earth science curriculum.
An operational oceanographic system needs to be established for the preservation and management of marine environments and resources, and also to secure the safety and efficiency of marine operations in Korea. One of the major roles of operational oceanography is to deliver ocean science products which can meet the requirements of users such as marine industries, the general public, government agencies, and scientific research communities. Technical issues in relation to development of an effective operational oceanographic system in Korea are identified and discussed. Among others, cooperation among the agencies in ocean, meteorology, hydrology and environment, and also among those of neighboring countries is important for the development of an effective operational oceanographic system. The strategy for building a system that meets the demands of users, with consideration to potential problems, are explored.
Biogeochemical processes play an important role in ocean environments and can affect the entire Earth's climate system. Using an ocean-biogeochemistry model (NEMO-TOPAZ), we investigated the effects of changes in albedo and wind stress caused by phytoplankton in the equatorial Pacific. The simulated ocean temperature showed a slight decrease when the solar reflectance of the regions where phytoplankton were present increased. Phytoplankton also decreased the El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) amplitude by decreasing the influence of trade winds due to their biological enhancement of upper-ocean turbulent viscosity. Consequently, the cold sea surface temperature bias in the equatorial Pacific and overestimation of the ENSO amplitude were slightly reduced in our model simulations. Further sensitivity tests suggested the necessity of improving the phytoplankton-related equation and optimal coefficients. Our results highlight the effects of altered albedo and wind stress due to phytoplankton on the climate system.

This study aims to assess vulnerability in urban thermal environments of Seoul by using indicators frequently used in previous studies as well as effective indicators for spatial planning like urban and environmental planning. For this purpose, fifteen indicators that influence urban thermal environments such as heat waves, urban heat island effects, and urban micro-climates were identified based on literature reviews. Indicators for presenting urban structure and spatial properties were included; for example, building volume as 'exposure to climate', buildings completed before 1980 as 'sensitivity', and green space areas as 'adaptive capacity'. Among them, twelve indicators were applied to assess vulnerability in urban thermal environments of Seoul by using a GIS spatial analysis combined with fuzzy logic. The results show that the Gangnam area is identified as more vulnerable to a heat environment as compared to the Gangbuk area. In the Gangnam area, Seocho-gu, Gangnam-gu, Dongjak-gu, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Gangseo-gu were relatively high in vulnerability, while Dongdaemun-gu, Gangbuk-gu, Gwangjin-gu, Jungrang-gu were relatively high in the Gangbuk area. Gwanak-gu, Dobong-gu, Eunpyeong-gu, and Nowon-gu, which include forested areas, have low vulnerability in the sectors of 'exposure to climate' and 'sensitivity' due to the impact of Gwanaksan and Bukhansan. However, some areas with high vulnerability like Seocho-gu and Gangnam-gu may have lower vulnerability if the indicator 'status of air conditioning' from the sector of 'adaptive capacity' is used. This study could support the establishment of a practicable thermal environment policy and spatial planning to reduce heat-related risks in the field of urban and environmental planning.
Marine organisms in Antarctica live in an environment which exhibits variability in physical processes over a wide range of temporal scales, from seconds to millennia. This time scale tends to be correlated with the spatial scale over which a given process operates, though this relationship is influenced by biology. The way organisms respond to variability in the physical environment depends on the time-scale of that variability in relation to life-span. Short-term variations are perceived largely as noise and probably have little direct impact on ecology. Of much greater importance to organisms in Antarctica are seasonal and decadal variations. Although seasonality has long been recognised as a key feature of polar environments, the realization that decadal scale variability is important is relatively recent. Long-term change has always been a feature of polar environments and may be a key factor in the evolution of the communities we see today.

To control a greenhouse is to control environmental parameters in greenhouse. Controlled environments may be as simple as saran-covered shade houses or as complex as growth chambers. Although greenhouses are probably the most common example of a controlled environment used in agricultural/horticultural production, the type of controlled environment or system that is needed depends upon the climate, time of year, crops being produced and the environmental parameters that must be controlled. In this contribution puts emphasis on construction of automatic-controlled greenhouse system by personal computer.
The amphibians serve as environmental indicator species warning of threats from pollution and development, and information regarding their body condition and surrounding habitat can be utilized as crucial indicators for assessing ecosystem health. The objective of this study was to investigate the differences in body condition and the climate environments according to the season and sex of Class II endangered Kaloula borealis. A total of 53 surveys were conducted from June to October 2018, targeting frogs inhabiting the Godeok-dong area of Gangdong-gu, Seoul. Using the weight and length of each individual, the body condition index (SMI, Scaled mass index) was calculated. Results showed a total capture of 396 individuals, consisting of 235 males and 161 females. Females exhibited longer SVL and greater weight compared to males, with higher body condition indices. Monthly body condition indices were lower for males in June, while no differences were observed between males and females from July to September. Among the climate environments where females and males appeared, environmental variables related to precipitation and humidity showed differences. These research findings are deemed crucial for providing fundamental information to ascertain suitable habitats for Kaloula borealis and selecting alternative habitats due to developmental impacts in the future.
