Objectives Medical plant has a big role in Herbal Medicines, and most medical plant has phytoestrogens. Therefore some estrogenic effects have been reported in a lot of Korean Medicine literature. Phytoestrogens should be used carefully in children. The objective of this study is to identify reported phytoestrogenic effects in Herbal Medicines and to evaluate the characteristics of the phytoestrogens in Herbal Medicines. Methods A literature search was done with using 8 databases with a limit of reports until 12/31/2013. The estrogenic effects were summarized by each individual Korean Medicine. The frequency of the phytoestrogens was also investigated depending on the Korean medical categorization by the treatment effect. Results and Conclusions Phytoestrogenic effects were reported in 89 Herbal Medicines. Phytoestrogens were act bidirectionally, and the effect was fairly weak compared to estrogen. Phytoestrogenic effect was variable on different cells and tissues. The most frequent phytoestrogenic effect was in tonifying and replenishing medicinal, the following orders were heat-clearing, exterior-releasing, and blood-activating and stasis-dispelling medicinal. Phytoestrogens were not reported in dampness-resolving, digestant, orifice-opening, emetic medicinal.
The treatment for patients with mutational dysphonia typically is useful with vegetative phonation, but has not yet been studied. This study attempts to identify the effect of $SKTCLP^{(R)}$ using throat clearing and laughing in patients with mutational dysphonia. The study, which was designed by the author, included 26 patients aged from 14 to 32 years (mean: 18.7 years) who had been diagnosed with mutational dysphonia between January 2007 and June 2010. Voice therapy for these patients included $SKTCLP^{(R)}$, ranging from two to seven sessions (mean: 3.8 sessions). Results were evaluated by videostroboscopy, perceptual evaluation of GRBAS scale, aerodynamic test, and acoustic analysis before and after therapy. Most patients could phonate with low pitch from the beginning and sustain with normal pitch sound in the last session. We had found that glottic gap reduced after therapy and anterior-posterior compression of superior laryngeal part at the first time, and these patients had complete closure of the glottis after treatment. The results of acoustic and aerodynamic measures after treatment indicated significant decreases in Fo, Jitter, Shimmer, SFF, and SPI, and increases in MPT, Psub, and vocal efficiency (p<.05). $SKTCLP^{(R)}$ may be a useful treatment method in managing mutational dysphonia. We can suggest this technique may be useful in improving the voice quality of other functional dysphonia having glottal chink or functional aphonia.
The transgenic technologies and their product (living modified organisms) have been developed and commercialized enough to get much attention in terms of their potentials to solve the current global difficulties such as shortage of food and energy. Furthermore, they are expected to make a big role in improving human health levels and creating bio-economy as innovative tools to pursue environmentally sound economic development. However, for the technologies and products to be developed and used in such a way that they continuously give a good impact to human society, first and foremost safety issues surrounding them should be dealt with. Every stage from in-house R&D, pilot field application to on the shelves should be managed to ensure safety following them because many consumers tend to have fear before they get the right or needed information on the modern biotechnology. In this sense, managing research facilities and LMOs for R&D from the point of safety is very crucial in that they are in the early stage of technology or product development. This paper especially deals with those to be complied with by researchers according to the Act on transboundary movement of LMOs, etc, entered into the effect from Jan. 1 2008.
The white cottony stem rot pathogen Sclerotinia scierotiorum was subjected to 70 different isolates of actinomycetes indigenous to Jordan as biological control agents. Forty of them demonstrated chitinase activity on crab shell chitin agay (CCA) media and they were segregated into three groups: 14 highly active, 12 moderately active, and 14 with low activity, with average clearing zones of (4.7-8.3), (3.7-4.3), and (2.3-3.3) mm surrounding colonies on CCA, respectively. Further, these isolates were able to inhibit radial mycelium growth of the pathogen and were categorized into three antagonistic groups: 13 strong, 13 moderate, and 14 weak antagonists, with antibiosis inhibition Bones of (32.0-45.7), (22.7-31.3), and (3.7-22.3) mm, respectively. High levels of chitinase activity of the isolates Ma3 (8.3 mm), Jul (7.7 mm), and Sa8 (7.7 mm) with their antagonistic activity against mycelium growth of 45.7, 44.3, and 40.7 mm were observed, respectively. These isolates exhibited fungicidal activity against sclevotia of S. sclerotiorum. On the other hand, isolates Na5, Aj3, and Aj2 that produced no chitinase showed fungistatic effect only.
This report describes the effectiveness of mahaenggamseog-tang(麻杏甘石湯) on the patients who suffered from atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. We administered mahaenggamseog-tang with heat-clearing and lung-dispersing(淸熱宣肺) effect to two dermatitis patients who showed sweating with panting(汗出而喘), vexation and thirst(煩渴), aversion to heat(惡熱), agitation(煩燥), swelling of the face and eyes(面目浮腫). The severity of dermatitis was evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS), pictures, SCORAD index(case 1), PASI(case 2). After the treatment, VAS/SCORAD index of case 1 changed from 9/71.5 to 0/6.1; VAS/PASI of case 2 from 8/36.8 to 1/6.8. Mahaenggamseog-tang could improved the symptoms of atopic dermatitis and psoriasis in this study. This study offers an approach to managing chronic dermatitis more effectively using Mahaenggamseog-tang which used mainly for bronchial diseases and obesity.

A thermal-hydraulic analysis is conducted on the loss-of-coolant-accident (LOCA) during shutdown operation of YGN Units 3/4. Based on the review of plant-specific characteristics of YGN Units 3/4 in design and operation, a set of analysis cases is determined, and predicted by the RELAP5/MOD3.2 code during LOCA in the hot-standby mode. The evaluated thermal-hydraulic phenomena are blowdown, break flow, inventory distribution, natural circulation, and core thermal response. The difference in thermal-hydraulic behavior of LOCA at shutolown condition from that of LOCA at full power is identified as depressurization rate, the delay in peak natural circulation timing and the loop seal clearing (LSC) timing. In addition, the effect of high pressure safety injection (HPSI) on plant response is also evaluated. The break spectrum analysis shows that the critical break size can be between 1% to 2% of cold leg area, and that the available operator action time for the Sl actuation and the margin in the peak clad temperature (PCT) could be reduced when considering uncertainties of the present RELAP5 calculation.
Recently, the improvement of fuel economy and the reduction of exhaust smoke and NOx have been successfully achieved by supplying diesel engines with emulsified diesel oil with water particles. In the present paper, the difference between the combustion of injected emulsified fuel and that of diesel oil spray is clarified by means of taking high-speed and color photographs of the flames in the engine cylinder. As the results, the two kinds of fuels show different combustion behavior each other in the growth of initial flame and in the termination of combustion process in the cylinder. Then, suitable combustion chamber design for the use of emulsified fuel is discussed on the basis of experimental data for various distribution of spray in different kinds of piston cavities. Some methods of clearing troubles caused by emulsified fuel injection are also discussed on the basis of performance tests with a remodeling test engine.
