In this paper, in order to examine cyclic hehavior characteristics and safety of underground flexible pipes for electric cables subject to cyclic vehicle load, FEM analysis and cyclic soil box test were carried out. As results of the test, it was revealed that the vertical displacement of the test was larger than that of FEM analysis because thermal effect arising from power cables made reduction of rigidity of the pipe so that large deformation of the pipe induced by the heat occured. Moreover, it was shown that the final vertical displacement under about 0.4 million times of the cyclic load test was not satisfied with elastic allowable displacement of the pipe, and long term stability of the pipe was not stable since behavior characteristics of the pipe exists plastic strain range pasted clastic strain range.

Nowadays, application fields using piezoelectric ceramics are various. On this paper, Characteristics of thin-type ultrasonic motor generating elliptical displacements has been analyzed by FEM, and then the motor was fabricated. Structure of the motor consists of sixteen ceramic pieces attached elastic body upper and bottom. Principle of the motor is to apply alternative voltages which have 90 phase difference to attached ceramics, and then elliptical displacements is generated at four edges of clastic body. And then rotor is rotated by the elliptical displacements. In case of ceramic thickness 1.5[mm], characteristic of the highest speed was found at 79[kHz]. In case of ceramic thickness 2[mm], Characteristic of the highest speed was observed at 77.5 [kHz]. Consequently, speed and torque of USM were increased linearly with increasing in applied voltage.
Udo is the site of a short-lived monogenetic submarine volcanic vent which builts basaltic clastic deposits below sea level, by early Surtseyan-type explosive eruption and later effusive lava eruptions. Mineral assemblage, major and trace element chemistry indicate that the Someori sub-alkaline lava flows were related to the WPTB(within plate tholeiitic basalt) rather than IAT(island-arc tholeiite) and that the geotectonic regime of Korean Peninsula went away from the subduction zone after the Later Miocene.
Feature enhancement combined with some pattern recognition techiques were applied to the Remote Sensing Data for geological mapping with particular emphasis on non-me-tallic ore deposits and their related geologies. The area chosen is north of Ulsan, the size of which is about 400km$^2$. The geology of the area consists mainly of volcanics, volcanic sediments and clastic sediments of Miocene age, underlain by the Kyungsang sediments of Cretaceous age. The mineralization occurs in tuffs or along the bedding plane of tuffaceous sediments, the main products of which are Kaolinite and Bentonite. The outcrops or mine dumps in the study area were most effectively extracted on the histrogram normalized image of TM Band 1 and 2, due to their high reflectivity. These may be confused with some artificial features, like slate roof complex of the poultry farm or cement ground, which should be classified by field checking. Detailed examination of enhancment image combined with pattern recognition techniques made enable to classify different rocks and thereby extract volcanic products which are mainly related to non-metallic ore deposits in the study area.

In this paper, we discuss a mathematical method for determining the return energy of the wave from the sample and comparing it with the mechanical energy consumed to change the dimension of the sample in the triaxial test of the rock. We represent a method to determine the mechanical energy and then we provide how to calculate the return energy of the wave. However, the static energy and pulse return energy will show higher amounts with axial pressure increase. Three types of clastic sedimentary rocks including sandstone, pyroclastic rock, and argillitic tuff were selected. The sandstone showed the highest strength, Young's modulus and ultrasonic P and S waves' velocities versus others in the triaxial test. Also, from the received P wavelet, the calculated pulse wave returning energy indicated the best correlation between axial stress compared to wave velocities in all specimens. The fact that the return energy decreases or increases is related to increasing lateral stress and depends on the geological characteristics of the rock. This method can be used to determine the stresses on the rock as well as its in-situ modulus in projects that are located at high depths of the earth.

The interaction of incident monochromatic waves with a tensioned, flexible, circular membrane submerged horizontally below free surface is investigated in the frame of three-dimensional linear hydro-elastic theory. The velocity potential is split into two parts i.e. the diffraction potential representing the scattering of incident waves by a rigid circular disk and the radiation potential describing motion induced waves by elastic responses of flexible membrane. The fluid domain is divided into three regions, and the diffraction and radiation potentials in each region are expressed by the Fourier Bessel series. The displacement of circular membrane is expanded with a set of natural functions, which satisfy the membrane equation of motion and boundary conditions. The unknown coefficients in each region are determined by applying the continuity of pressure and normal velocity at the matching boundaries. The results show that various types of wave focusing are possible by controlling the size, submergence depth, and tension of membrane.
Narrow (10-20 km wide) and steep (0.3-$2.4^{\circ}$) continental shelf off the eastern coast of Korea is covered with terrigenous clastic sediments reflecting the Holocene fluctuation of sea level. Surface sediments on the inner shelf consist of muddy sand and sandy mud with some gravels near the coast. However, sand or muddy sand, shell fragments and well rounded gravels occur near the edge of continental shelf at the depth of about 130-l50m. The coarse sediments near the shelf edge seem to be the relict or palimpsest sediments deposited under the nearshore environment during the low-stand or sea level due to so-called the Wisconsinan glaciation. Distribution of recent sediments near the coast and the inner shelf may reflect the affect of waves and currents precluding the deposition of fine sediment near the coast and on the shallow portion of shelf. Eastern Korean Warm Current also nay have played an important role to the transport and distribution of fine sediments from the south.
The aim of this study is to analyze relationships between topography/geology which affects physically groundwater regime and groundwater yield properties in Pohang City using Geographic Information System (GIS). For the purpose, topographic factors such as ground elevation, ground elevation difference, ground slope, and ground regional slope, and hydrogeologic unit, and groundwater yield properties factors such as transmissivity, specific capacity, and well yield, were constructed to spatial data base. Then the relationships between topography, geology and groundwater yield properties were analyzed quantitatively using GIS overlay technique. As the results, ground-water yield of unconsolidated sediments and porous volcanic rocks is the highest among the hydrogeologic units of study area, and clastic sedimentary rock is the lowest. There are positive relationship between the elevation and elevation difference and the groundwater yield properties and negative relationship between the topographic slope and the groundwater yield properties.
To study stratigraphy of tidal basin deposits, related unconformity and source of late Holocene tidal sediments in Namyang Bay, west coast of Korea, total 8 vibracore sediments have been analyzed. The uppermost stratigraphic sequence of the late Holocene Namyang intertidal deposit overlies three different stratigraphic sequences (1) oxidized reddish brown muddy deposit (Yongduri Member), (2) oxidized yellow deposit (Kanweoldo Formation) and (3) the pre-Cambrian gneiss complex unconformably. Accordingly, three unconformities between those different sequences are recognized. The Namyang tidal deposits (late Holocene) with several meter thickness are mostly coarsening upward sequence suggesting transgressive phase during a continuous rise of sea level. The tidal deposit vibracored down to 4.5 m in depth contains clastic glauconite sands (2% in average) from 2.5 m to the vibracore bottom. These glauconite sands are considered to be transported to the site of Namyang Bay tidal sedimentation from offshore continental shelf of the Yellow Sea along the course of late Holocene sea-level rise.
In the coal-bearing formations of the Janggi Group, which are reported as typical clastic sediments, several beds of volcaniclastic rocks are actually found in the Yeongil area. The coal-bearing formations generally exhibit alternating lithologic characteristics of pyroclastic and epiclastic sedimentary facies. Tuff and tuffaceous sandstone rich in pumice fragments are characteristic in the coal-bearing fermations. Diagenetic minerals found in the pyroclastic rocks of the upper and lower coal-bearing formations are montmorillonite, clinoptilolite, opal-CT, and quartz. Several tuffaceous beds correspond to the low-grade ores of zeolites and bentonite, and moreover, these ores mostly occur as thin beds less than 1 m in thickness. Thus, the potential of altered tuffaceous rocks as the resources typical of zeolite and bentonite seems to be low. However, based on mineral composition and CEC determinations, it can be evaluated that these tuffaceous rocks mostly have the promising potential for utilization as the absorbent-functional mineral resources such as acid clays, if these low-grade ores plus adjacent tuffaceous rocks are collectively exploited.
